This was the second time we had stayed at the campsite as we enjoyed our first visit so much the year before. This time we were staying in one of the pods on site.
We arrived about 1.30 in the afternoon and was promptly seen to and was shown our Pod straight away, which is always a nice touch I think when you arrive and shown to your pitch. Straight away we were so pleased to see where we would be staying for the next 4 days.
We had booked the pod basically from seeing them the year before, but now there were more on site, first impressions were exciting from the outside. We were very happy where we were positioned away from the pond where the rest of the pods were. We were shown inside and what was expected of us and how to leave it on our departure. We unpacked the car nearby and got settled. Not long after we got our welly boots on and wraped up and went for a lovely walk nearby in the woods.
This campsite is perfect, it's toilet facilities are immaculate and the showers are hot and kept so clean. We ran out of gas whilst we set up for a cuppa tea, but promptly the staff helped us out by replacing our old with a new cylinder straight away, very helpful staff!
We enjoyed our stay so much that we didn't want to go, we came for peace and quiet and fresh air and that's exactly what we got 10/10 without a doubt!

We arrived to a very warm welcome and were given a variety of pitches to choose from. We chose one near the exit which was a great choice for TV and Wifi signal but also for the weather as we pitched south facing, the sun rose on the east and set on the west so on the days we were lucky with the weather we had the sun all day through. We were shown to our pitch and offered any help we needed. Very pleasant and friendly staff.
The site is deceptively large and spacious. It operates a barrier system where you must enter a code (given to you on check-in) when you drive into the site and the barrier on the exit lifts automatically. There’s a fish & chip van on a Friday night which arrives approx 7.30pm and we can definitely recommend them. We were there 9 nights and had them both Fridays.
There is a central block with wash up facilities and toilets. The ladies had 5 toilets, a wash basin, five enclosed cubicle wash basins and five showers. The showers were hot and a decent water pressure but they are push button and had to be pressed far too regular, every 8-12 seconds infact which is awkward for folks like me with long, thick hair when trying to rinse out the shampoo! I’m told they’re the same in the gents and there’s a similar number of utilities in there.
There are 5 washing up sinks and the water is nice and hot there too. All facilities were spotless and clean. There is a second toilet block between two sets of camping pods, round the back of the fishing pond. Again 4 toilets but only two showers, three wash basins but none enclosed in cubicles.
Next to this is an information hut with an abundance of leaflets, a laundry area with washer, dryer, iron and ironing board and a further two washing up sinks. We didn’t use these but again they looked clean and tidy. The shop has plenty of gear, we even got some oil for our bike chains. It’s small but has all essentials and a little bit more.
We didn’t have children with us to try out the recreation field and play equipment but it certainly looked ample and there were plenty of kids enjoying it as we walked past.
There are a few entrances to the forest at the back of the site, one via the dog walk and one further down but both paths link up. We cycled through there a few times and it’s great with marked routes for walks and rides. You soon get to know your way round as it is nowhere near as large as Thetford Forest itself but it’s nice for a decent walk or an easy bike ride.
If you are interested in aviation this would be the site for you as it is positioned between RAF Mildenhall and RAF Lakenheath and the fighter planes go over regularly which we loved but I can imagine some people would be disturbed by the noise as they are very loud and fly at literally all hours. We didn’t hear or see any over the weekend so may not cause problems for weekend campers but they were definitely rife during weekdays.
Thetford town centre is nothing special although it does have plenty of shops. Norwich was about a 40 minute drive which is a nice city with everything you could want and need. Closest pub would probably be The Eagle at Great Hockham and the Dog and Partridge on the main road to Thetford.
The Eagle don’t do food apart from some baguettes which someone local supplies them with (they didn’t have any when we went). Dog and Partridge has a snacks menu and the food was good and reasonable prices. They do a better evening menu but we didn’t go back to try it.
We did, however, visit The Stag (Brecklands Lodge) at Attleborough which was a lovely place and we’d definitely recommend there for food and drink. Nearest supermarkets would be the Tesco at Watton about 6 miles drive or the Sainsburys at Thetford, about 20 minute drive. A great day out would be Thetford Forest (High Lodge, Brandon). Journey takes about 15-20 minutes by car.
It is £1.80 per hour to park but that is per car and pays for the family day out at the forest. There is a shop and cafe, a Go Ape, walks, bike rides, loads of kids activities and play equipment and the new Go Trax which are Segways, a two wheeled machine that you stand on and control with balance and can fly through the forest on. It was £20 for an hour but well worth it. I think Go Ape is a similar price.
Walks and bike routes don’t cost anything but there’s a bike hire shop which was £7 for first hour and £3 per hour thereafter. There’s four routes for cycles the hardest being the black route which was closed when we went due to bad weather so we followed the red route and it was fab. Not as difficult as it suggests on the website and definitely well worth a go.
The only negatives we can come up with for the site are, lack of lighting on a night, grass could have done with a cut and the showers not staying on long enough but none of them put us off. All in all the site is in a fantastic location with plenty to do nearby and is well kept and clean with helpful staff and great facilities. What more could one ask for. Needless to say we will definitely be returning.

We booked this site purely based on the recommendations on this site, and we weren't disappointed.
When we arrived, we checked in and were shown to our pitch in person! The staff/owners are extremely welcoming, and friendly and once he had explained where everything was on the site, we were left to our own devices.
The site itself is very well maintained, with both normal pitches, and electric hook ups, the pitches themselves come in 2 sizes, normal & jumbo. We had a 10 man tent, and the jumbo had loads of room.
There is a playing field for rounders, cricket etc and a separate kids play field, which has swings, slide & climbing frame, not a large amount of equiptment, but definitely enough. We took 3 boys (9, 6 & 4) & a baby, and hardly saw the boys while we were there.
There are also a few walking paths around the site through the woods (Green about 1.5 miles & Yellow about 3-4 miles)
The facilities were always clean and tidy (closed between 11 & 12 daily for cleaning) and the showers are free. The site shop has all essentials you need, including freeze block hire. Bigger shops are only 5 or 6 miles away if you need them.
One thing to bear in mind, is the main field is reasonably open, so did get a bit windy (not a problem when the tent is actually up, but proved to be a challenge while we were putting it up)
All in all, a very very lovely site, and one we will certainly revisit as soon as we can.

This was our first camping trip for over 10 years and the first time we've camped with our kids. There were four of us, 2 adults, a 5 year old and a 1 year old.
We booked this site the day before we stayed having read the positive reviews on UKCampSite and in the hope that as a Camping and Caravanning Club site it would be clean and pleasant. We weren't disappointed.
When we arrived we were shown the map and where pitches were available and we chose to stay near the play area. We were personally escorted to our pitch and the boundaries explained. This was a comfort to us as being relative newbies it didn't leave us having to work out what to do on our own. The pitches were nicely spaced out and flat and there was plenty of room for our tent and car. Despite a busy time of year we never felt squashed in or crowded.
The facilities were very clean and there were plenty of showers and toilets. The water was nice and hot and the shower was powerful enough for a decent wash. The only criticism I would make of the shower is the press button to turn it on only keeps the water flowing for around 5 seconds. It was quite difficult to wash my hair with the shower turning off all the time. However this was a minor inconvenience. The washing up facilities were also plentiful and clean.
There's a small shop that stocks essential items and a supermarket within a 15 minute drive. There's a barrier system to allow you in and out to secure the site.
I was impressed with the noise levels as everyone seemed to observe the 11pm curfew, even the kids. There were no rowdy groups and everyone we met was friendly and pleasant.
It rained when we pitched and when we were striking camp but despite this we had a great time. We visited BeWILDerwood while we were there and had a fabulous day out. Thankfully the sun did shine that day.
Overall we liked the Thetford site and would recommend it. We will definitely visit again.

This was our first time camping at this site and we were very impressed.
The toilets and showers were sparkly clean and we never had to wait although the site was really busy when we arrived.
We camped with our 3 children who all enjoyed the play area, there's even bikes to hire but take your own helmet as they charge an extra £2.Oo to hire them and you need to have one.
We were greeted warmly by the staff and were shown to our pitch, we were asked if we would like to be near the playarea as we had the children.
We needed directions to Snetterton races and the owner got out his OS map and told us the way to go through the back roads to avoid the queues which was lovely of him.
The whole site was very well maintained and everyone seemed to be smiling! and plenty of hot water which is always a bonus even at busy times.
We would definitely return again

So up next its the camping and caravan club site at Thetford on our mini UK Tour
As always the not so good bits.
Ok here goes.
The entrance is well being frank a nightmare for several reasons and here goes.
The club rules are off by 1200. Thus allowing those arriving from 1200 to get on. We arrived at 1245 and bearing in mind we have a big twin axle made our way from the main road up the lane towards the campsite entrance then you have to make a left turn along a dire gravel / pothole nightmare of an entrance lane and guess what, yep as we made our turn in we meet one coming out with a car behind it. We had a car behind us. Good job his lordship has a HGV 1 as we set off in reverse around the corner avoiding overhanging trees then had to make a move forwards practically into a field to allow the others to get out then reversed down the tree lined road to make a move up the lane and all I can say is it will give the suspension a serious workout. This was attempted to be rectified during our stay when they filled the holes with type 1 but its only a token and not permanent and this type of access is crying out for a traffic light system before their is a major crisis
This may not suit all but we don't feel that caravans and tents suit each other when pitched close by. The noise on the site from the tent areas is very loud and the kids and adults we saw don't use the footpaths but cut across the hedges and pull out your electric hook up. Ours was damaged by kids on bikes riding over it.
Not enough facilities for a site of this size. Many queues for showers and facilities even late at night and the disabled showers is well over the other side of the site.
What was good about the site.
The caravan pitches are big so not a problem with big units, both hardstanding and grass pitches, some with and some without EHU
The location of the site is excellent for all surrounding areas such as Norwich, Thetford, Cambridge, Newmarket etc
There is a Tescos in Thetford
Would we go again is the ultimate question and its a no from us. We pulled out of the site 2 days early and went elsewhere. The site needs some attention to detail.

This was our first stay at a cc club site for many years and was very impressed with the facilities and location.Instead of taking the tent we opted for one of the camping Pods what a great idea, leave the tent at home just take everything else airbeds / sleeping bags and cooking equipment etc electric is supplied so we had lights and a heater was provided and we took our little tv and hair drier.
We could fit in 2 double airbeds and had enough room to either sit inside on our chairs or on the veranda it had picnic bench and bbq area too. A big advantage was in the pod you kept dry and warm compared to a tent.
Site facilities were excellent and clean. The kids will love the park and cycling from the site. The staff were extremely helpful and pleasant. We noticed the piece and quiet after 11pm not like some non club sites! plenty to do in the area like visit Thetford and Bury st edmunds, and if you have kids or love cycling go to the high lodge visitor centre you can spend all day there.
Big supermarkets in Thetford for your supplies are Tesco and sainsburys are not far away by car.

We visited this site last weekend and had a fabulous time. We were in the overspill field as it was busy as expected at peak times. But we never had to queue for toilets, showers or washing up area! my 2 daughters 6 and 2 made lots of new friends and had ample space around our pitch to play, my older one to ride her bike without getting in anyones way.
The warden personally showed us to our pitch, told us direction of sunrise and sunset, and was very helpful. The pitch sizes are very good, we had 2 cars on ours plus a large tent, windbreakers, picnic table, numerous chairs and felt very chilled.
The facilities are clean, plentiful and spaced about brilliantly. The bin areas are emptied very regularly and the electronic barriers stop people coming and going at silly o clock hours! The shop is well stocked with everything you'd need. Staff very kind, helpful and a pleasure to deal with.
We cycled to the Chequers Inn 6mile through forest track, a gorgeous pub with lovely food. Watton 6mile down road with a tesco for those larger emergencies and a large selection of shops, takeaways etc.
Childrens play area clean, safe and although not a huge selection of play things it is on a very huge area of land where the kids can play ball, ride bikes, play tennis, cricket etc. All enclosed and safe. The forest is right next to the site making a day in the woods a simple pleasure. Dogs very welcome and dog walk lovley. The prices are a bit steep compared to others but peak times are always like that!
Overall we can't wait to go back and neither can the girls.

Just returned from this lovely site.
It is actually at Great Hockham, between watton and Thetford, not in Thetford Forest itself, but still has access to lovely woodland walks.
On arrival we were greeted by the very friendly staff. We were asked if we had any preferences regarding our location and requested a quiet spot. We were shown to a lovely large pitch in the field furthest from the play areas, very close to the entrances to the woods.
Pitches are large, well maintained and level. Pitches are available with or without EHU.
There was a smaller shower / toilet block on our fields with a laundry and wash up area, plus another larger block in the next field. In the laundry there is tourist information and in the main wash up there is an information board detailing local places to eat.
The facilities themselves were kept very clean and well maintained and there was lots of hot water with good water pressure.
There is a basic shop on site, plus larger Tesco's within a few miles in either Thetford or Watton, and a range of shops in Thetford itself.
There is a fish and chip van that visits the site on a Wednesday and Friday. We didn't try it but it smelt very good!
From the site you have direct access to the woods where there are 2 marked out routes ideal for walking or cycling. A shorter Green Trail and a longer yellow route. The Peddars Way trail passes close to the site as does the Great Eastern Pingo Trail ( A circular route of around 8 miles in total) One piece of advice if you plan on heading into the woods is to take a good insect repellent.
The site also makes a great base to tour the local area and is a haven for wildlife. Very close to the site we saw both tawny owls and barn owls, muncjac and roe deer, squirrels, rabbits plus countless bird species.
We will definitely be back as we really enjoyed the relaxed friendly atmosphere and great countryside around the site.

Excellent clean spacious site. The shop is small and could do with more fresh stock (bread). The toilet block and showers are always immaculate in the 2 years we have been visiting there. The playground is excellent for our two and five year old. Some great cycle rides from the campsite suitable for novice.
There are great days out such as the Lodge nearby with cycle tracks and unusual woodland playgrounds and this time we travelled to Bewilderwood about an hour away which great fun for us and kids.
This year we booked our five year old into the cycle training on site which made his holiday as he had to cycle through obstacles on a timer and the trainers were brilliant with them. Very good value for money too.
The only slight down side this year we noticed the tents and car parking seemed less organised than last year which was a bit of a shame, thought it was more attractive with the cars parked down each side of the tents (real minor issue) and there were a few teenagers hanging around at night being a bit of a pain (aren't they all and they were fairly harmless) which we didn't notice last year. This may have been because we were nearer the playground, we remembered a sort of warden checking around the campsite last year at night which we didn't notice this year, very hard to get the balance right though.
Despite torrential rain, still enjoyed the holiday and will definitely return again. Would rather pay the little extra for this camping and caravan campsite for the cleanliness, organisation and charm.
