Spent 2 weeks at Dolbryn with 2 children - 3yrs and 16 mths. A great site for kids and adults alike - Bev and Dave who run it are as helpful and friendly as can be, even offering tea on arrival when it looked like we needed to wait for our pitch.
Facilities - clean and comfortable toilets, shower blocks with moveable shower heads, convenient family room where kids could be showered without parents getting too wet(!), laundry room with 2 machines (£2 a wash) and washing dried at main house (£2 a load), 2 large sinks in the washing up area although only one of those has hot water, cozy bar with prices of bottled bear just 5p more than in the supermarket, large childrens playground with enclosed trampoline, swings, slide, sandpit and rabbit hutch. Opportunity to feed chickens and rabbits every morning at 9am which the kids loved. Ducks roaming around the site. Very picturesque. We were on the Pines field with electric hook up and water very close by.
Surrounding area - visited a few beaches - Mwnt is a lovely bay which you reach by steps so take a back carrier for small children. Poppit sands is a huge flat expanse of beach with lots of rockpools to explore - wish we had gone there earlier in our stay. Saw New Quay, Llanstefan and had a day out in Tenby too (about 90 minutes away). CKs is the local supermarket where you can get everything reasonably priced in Emlyn whilst Cardigan had both Tesco and a soft play centre. Carmarthen (about an hour) had the usual high street selection of stores. Would definitely recommend a visit to Cenarth - lovely small waterfalls and fantastic food and service at the Three Horse Shoes pub, with or without kids.
All in all, we were hugely impressed with the set up Bev and Dave have there. They certainly give good holiday!

Cannot recommend this site highly enough. We spent a week there in 2006 and are going back this year (2008) for 2 weeks. The site has 3 fields which are well maintained, although there is only 1 set of facilities which can be a bit of a trek from the top field. Having said that, the facilities are worth the effort because they are really well kept.
There is a lovely kids play area (basic equipment but designed to get kids playing together) and an animal corner with rabbits, chicks and other animals which the children can feed every morning and evening (and also some goats!) - an event not be missed each day in our case. The site also has walks around some lakes and a vineyard which are just right for toddler-strolls.
The owners periodically put on events for the children (& adults!) which is a really nice and greatly appreciated touch. The bar is very inclusive - family games, good prices and a chance to meet the others on site. And of course there is the barn for the older children.
Only gas a few other basics are sold on site, but there are plenty of supermarkets and so on in Newcastle Emlyn which doesn't take long to drive to.
We loved the site so much last time that we didn't really explore the area, hence our return this year to do just that. Will submit another review when we get back to tell more.
Probably the best family site we have been to.

We have just spent a very wet, but enjoyable week at Dolbryn.
As with our visit there last year (August 2007), the toilets and showers were clean at all times of day. No matter when there was always hot water for showers, washing and pot washing. There is a fridge freezer for campers to use, and 2 washing machines used on an honesty basis. We were camping in the Pines field (using EHU), where the childrens park is in the corner, and in between the torrential rain the field did drain well. Our children enjoyed the daily animal feeding with Dave and Bev.
The small bar just right for this type of site, with an good selection of bottled ales, cans and soft drinks, none were over priced. There was always a good atmosphere in there, and we enjoyed the bingo and pub quiz nights!
Whilst we were there we visited Castel Henlleys (brilliant reconstructed iron age fort), Kidwelly Castle, Cilgerran Castle, The welsh wildlife centre (Cilgerran), National Wool Museum. We also did pond dipping on site (nets, buckets and identification charts can be borrowed from the house).
Our children (5 and 6½) had a fantastic holiday, they made many friends, running round and exploring is positively encouraged by Dave and Bev.
The only thing we would change about this site would be to have a proper path up to the pot washing area, but talking to Dave on our last night he is planning to do something about that in the near future.

This is the place to be in wales in this area. We initially went for 4 nights and stayed for 10. Absolute fabulous hosts dave and bev. This was my first experience camping and I could not have chose a better place. It has beautiful surroundings, shower and toilet facilities in excellent condition,a bar in an old barn very cheap night out,a separate room for the kids but were allowed in the bar too.Pub bingo, quiz nites and alot of singing too! its very family orientated but not over crowded, the people were just so lovely and warming. This has to be visited for an ideal quiet holiday but with lots for kids to do.It is out of the way but your only 20 mins from beach and there are lots of places of interest, pubs offering fabulous menus, lots of beautiful countryside and a brilliant farm type shop called CK'S IN NEWCASTLE EMLYN. We certainly will be going back.

Just returned from a fabulous 4 days, first time camping and we really enjoyed this site. Weather was great first 3 days and we spent most of them on the beach at New Quay about 30 min drive.
The site was spotless and run by a fantastic family who couldn't do enough to help.
Toilets and shower block were spotless and big enough for the family. The pub is an old barn with old prices (£1.30 a pint) the games room was next door and although basic kept my kids happy. Bingo on Sat, wife won 2 houses, paid for our holiday.
The playground could do with a few more things. There is also a pond with some fish, although they are hard to catch I caught 2 in one morning. You can hire a pole for £2 but next time I'll take a rod so I can cast further out.
There is a lesiure centre 5 min away which we used on our one bad day. There is a supermarket 5 min away and a couple of pubs. Going again in August, can't wait.

This is our first review posted on this site after using the site for 4 years. We think that just about says it all about Dolbryn. We had to give our comments and add to all the great reviews previously posted. We were recommended this site whilst on holiday in cornwall last year and we have to say we were really delighted we took the advice.
We had mainly dreadful weather on our 5 night stay, but it didn't matter. We have a 5 year old and an 8 year old who have never been allowed such freedom as they had here, Dolbryn just makes you relax so much you dont feel the need to keep reigns on them. They can run round the fields, feed the the animals, go fishing, make things with Bev or Dave, or play in the great little play area.
I think Bev and Dave's idea is basically a rustic old fashioned camping experience with lovely clean showers and toilets and other well thought out facilities added.
The barn is great in the nights with plenty going on for the adults, whilst the kids keep playing in the games room and close by.
All in all this is a superb site that we can not speak highly enough of with friendly and helpful people running it and staying on it.
We will absolutely be returning again hopefully with better weather but quite frankly it's paradise already in our eyes.
Oh one more thing the kids loved the raft making and floating them at night.

We stayed here for the May Day long weekend. As we arrived Bev met us & showed us to our pitch. We booked here after reading the reviews, we weren't disappointed.
Our son loved the play area, he soon made friends & was off, while we pitched. We were in the pines not too far from the play area, or son was up & out waiting to feed the rabbits & chicks.
We found nothing was too much trouble, the loos & showers clean, lots of hot water & warm. There are undercover pot washing & laundry areas.
On saturday we discovered the barn & its wood burning stove, a great place to relax. It has CCTV so you can keep an eye as the children run round or are next door in the teen room.
In Newcastle Emlyn 2 miles away there are 2 supermarkets, Tescos is on the outskirts of Cardigan. This gem is handy for the Coacle centre at Cenarth & the falls, the beaches of Mwnt and Poppit Sands, Ideal for exploring further west.
We loved it & are thrilled that it not too far from us, we hope to be back.

Stayed here for a long weekend and agree with everyone else that owners are very accomodating and friendly. The campsite seems to attract a lot of regulars that go year after year and everyone seemed to know everyone which portrayed a very relaxed and cheerful atmosphere. We were pitched in 'the lakes' which was sloping and although that wouldn't matter to caravans, we were in a tent so was a bit disappointing. Apart from that we couldn't fault the site; the toilet block and showers were immaculate, there is a laundry room with washing machines, a fridge freezer and a seperate room for washing dishes. This is a farm setting with goats, sheepdog, chickens and ducks (the latter free roaming)and includes country lanes that you would expect with a farm. There is nothing within walking distance but Newcastle Emlyn is 10mins in the car and has everything you need including 2 small supermarkets. The site also has a good size dog run and a running stream to paddle in (the dog not us!). All in all a lovely rustic site that we will enjoy going back to.

We must say that this is the most relaxing site we have ever visited. The setting is really beautiful, 3 fields, 2 with hook up for electric. The owners have succeeded in creating a site that caters for families and couples. Immaculate toilet and shower facilities, childrens playground, dog walking areas, fishing pond and a small friendly bar really make this a site for all ages. Bev & Dave are to be congratulated for creating the perfect balance. This is a couple of 'golden oldies' who will be back.

What a super holiday we had. The campsite is extremely clean and well looked after, as much hot water for showers and washing up as you need. Bev and Dave were extremely good hosts, nothing was too much trouble. The site was very peaceful and it was wonderful to see all the wildlife so close to hand. We would recommend this site to everyone.
