We selected this campsite based on the strong reviews and we weren't disappointed!
We arrived later than planned but the owners had waited for us, showed us to our pitch and gave us good local information.
The site is very well maintained, with immaculate facilities and is very picturesque being surrounded by woodland and fields.
The campsite is also well located, being only a 10 minute walk away from Bala town, where you will find 5 pubs and various shops including a spar and co-op supermarket for essentials, although the small campsite shop does sell the basics and will order newspapers for you!
We took advantage of ordering meat from the local butcher for our BBQ via the campsite owners. They had provided us with a menu/order form on our arrival, which we completed and enjoyed having our goodies delivered to our pitch! This is highly recommended. The steaks were fantastic.
You will easily find Bala lake (2 minute walk) and the steam railway just around the corner!
All in all a fantastic site that we would highly recommend. Should we return to the area again we would without hesitation book into Pen Y Bont.

Have just returned from 3 nights at Pen Y Bont. It is a lovely quiet site. Nice clean shower/toilet block always with hot water. Pitches well laid out, the owner very helpful and a nice small shop with essentials and tourist info.
The site itself is only a 15 minute walk into Bala so we didn't use our car for the 3 days we were there which was nice. Bala has plenty of shops and pubs/restaurants and local walks for an enjoyable break.
Would recommend Pen Y Bont and will definitely use again when we return to Bala.

This was our second stay at this lovely site. It's situated about a 15 minute walk from the town of Bala and 3 minutes walk from the lake and steam railway station
The site facilities are superb, very clean & modern toilet /shower block we had a fully serviced pitch with hardstanding
There is a small shop at reception with all the basics plus a good supply of camping gear etc. You can also order daily papers for collection
There are some fantastic carvings made out of trees on the site
Bala itself has a number of nice pubs, small shops and a Co-op supermarket for your supply's
Beware of low flying aircraft (the RAF train in the welsh mountains - quite a sight to see jets flying so low, however it did upset the grandson who thought they were spaceships and dived into the caravan every time he heard a car go past)
Nice site well recommended will return !

Just returned from a lovely 4 night stay at Pen y Bont. The weather was mixed but didn't spoil our stay.
The site is well maintained by its owners, who also go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. Toilet/shower facilities are clean and plenty of hot water provided. Shop was well stocked and was handy being able to order meat and it be delivered to the site.
It is a lovely 10-15 min stroll by the lake into Bala.
We drove up the mountain to Lake Vyrnwy, lovely scenery and canoeing was reasonable priced too.

Completed loads of research before selecting this site and decison was mainly based on the numbers who have returned. Similarly, I can only really add to the positive comments about Pen Y Bont. Excellent facilities, I particularly liked the wash/shaving cubicles.
With a six and five year old we did wonder about the lack of a playground but not a problem plenty of grass and trees to keep them occupied. Also other friendly families.
We had booked a large pitch which was very generously sized although on a slight gradient.
The owners are friendly and extremely helpful giving tips on where to visit etc. We took advantage of the meat ordering service (great value and terrific quality)and on one occasion when there was a problem with this they personally took control.
The site is in a very good location near to Bala Town and all the facilities. It's a beautiful part of Wales but we came away thinking we quite hadn't done it justice so hopefully planning a return to both area and site.

We have just returned from a fantastic visit to Pen Y Bont and can guarantee we will be making a return visit soon.
The owners were very accommodating and helpful whilst making the booking and even more so during our visit. Fellow campers were friendly, the facilities clean, tidy and well maintained and the sites proximity to the lake and Bala town centre was amazing.
The only advice we would offer is that during the height of the season the mosquitoes are hungry so take precaution. We weren't expecting to be bitten but again, the owners were wonderfully helpful in giving us some advice and suggestions.
The shop is only small but very well stocked with some great products including bug repelling supplies, thankfully!
I also agree with a previous visitors comments regarding the chip shop in town - well worth a visit!

What a lovely location this campsite is in, just a couple of things that would really improve this site FOR US, the toilet and shower block could do with updating, we found it a bit draughty and cold, especially in the morning, and, beware if you are watching online TV like Sky go because the Wi-Fi allowance that is given will be eaten up very quickly! TV reception is very poor unless you have a tall aerial, we were on a hardstanding serviced pitch near the woodcarvings.
Bala is a lovely little town, and is a shortish walk away, everything that you need is there, butchers, bakery etc
We found it best to walk along the lake into town past the rugby field.
The on site shop sells all the basics

Just back from a lovely stay at Pen y Bont. The site was lovely, well maintained and the toilet and shower block was immaculate .
We were pitched in the top corner of the site surrounded by trees which was a great location aside from the insects and midges that kept eating us alive - take insect repellent and I would advise treating your tent with it before you go as we had a swarm of flying ants attach their selves to our tent for a full three days. They weren't doing any harm but it was a bit creepy as they didn't seem interested in any other tents!
Our pitch was the furthest away from the toilet and shower block but it was still an easy walk down the hill.
Some of the pitches are on a slight gradient (the ones closest to the toilet and shower block) but as long as you pitch facing the right way it shouldn't be an issue.
Bala was a fifteen minute walk away and it's a delightful little place. Plenty of pubs and shops to visit and a lot of the pubs had beer gardens where we could sit with the dog. We tried Sunday lunch in The Goat pub (beer garden accessible at the back) which was the cheapest place we found and the food was great for £7 each for two courses.
We had a day trip to Porthmadog which is nice for a stroll and to pick up essentials as it's the nearest large supermarket (Tesco). We also had a trip to Harlech where we tried to go to the castle ruins but they wouldn't let us in with the dog. Instead we found our way down to the beach which was lovely. Very clean and dog friendly to one side and no dogs to the other.
Pen Y Bont is well situated for a nice relaxing break and I'd recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in the area.

Bala is a super spot. We were there to do some sailing so this sites' closeness to the lake was a big attraction.
The site is pleasant, tidy and clean and the location is lovely. On the other hand the pitch was comparatively small and not very flat.
Very frustratingly the hot water simply is not hot - it is just warm. This makes showering and washing up disappointing activities.
When we raised this with the manager we were told that EU legislation limits the temperature.
If this is the case, this is the only campsite we have visited in the UK (and we visit many) that applies it.
Considering this site is far from cheap we were left slightly disappointed.

We stayed at this site for two nights. The site is very well maintained and looked after by the friendly, helpful owners. The toilet block and showers are cleaned every day.
There is a good fish and chip shop in Bala - very large chip portions!
There is a 22:30hrs noise limit, which is upheld and the site seems to go to sleep after this.
We had a problem on the second night when a group of young children seemed to congregate near our tent (which was close to the toilet/shower block) and decided to play football and have a water fight, screaming loudly until 22:15hrs! Where were the parents, our daughter could not sleep.
Apart from this, the site was lovely and great sized pitches.
