We have just spent a lovely relaxing time at Pen Y Bont.
On arrival we were greeted by the friendly and welcoming hosts who directed us to our pitch (9) and also helped us move the van into position. The pitch was plenty big enough for the van and car and was in a lovely position next to the wood carvings and with a field of lambs just behind.
The toilet facilities were spotless, it was a very quiet time but we are sure the standards would be the same even when busy. The site itself is not to big and feels quite natural but is very well kept.
The hosts were really helpful with information on the local area and we ventured to many of their recommendations. You must visit Pistyll Rhaeadr waterfall, its beautiful and there's a great cafe. A visit to Snowdon is also a must, expensive on the train but had to do it.
Bala is a small town about 20 mins walk from the site and has a very good pub called the White Lion which has great value food, there is also a coop and a lovely bakery.
The train along the lake is just a few minutes away from the site and is well worth a visit.
We had a great time here and would not only recommend but also return.

We have just returned from long weekend could not have wished for better site. Lovely setting we were celebrating our 9th wedding anniversary on arriving we were allocated pitch 9 (spooky). Excellent toilet block clean with plenty of hot water, good dog walks around the area. Owners very helpful and very friendly taking time and recommending extremely good pub to us the Bryntirion Inn on way to Corwen with excellent food. Will definitely visit site again and would highly recommend it to anyone else visiting the area.

We spent two amazing weeks at Pen Y Bont at the beginning of August. We chose our pitch in advance as the owners kindly sent us a map of the campsite. Upon arrival we were amazed as to how well maintained, beautiful and cozy the place looked. The pitches were large enough, well laid out and numbered. We ended up changing our pitch after a few days though as we felt quite lonely on the side where the Gypsy caravan is. Our new pitch was number 53 which was quite close to the toilet/shower block and the washing up area (very convenient)
Even though the site was pretty full (around 100 pitches)- the noise was always kept to a minimum and we were never disturbed. The facilities were spotless, showers very warm, hair dryers powerful (20p per 3 minutes, although you are welcome to bring your own). The washing up area and the showers were almost always empty and when being cleaned (around 11:30 every day) we could use a spacious family room for all our needs.
The owners were extremely helpful and polite. The grass was mowed each day for about an hour at the most which it didn't bother us at the slightest. We did use the on site shop on a number of occasions for sweets, bacon and eggs. We biked to Bala for everything else.
Our dog enjoyed the walks to the nearby forest (just around the corner from the campsite)and to the lake which is about 3 minutes away on foot. Speaking about the lake - we had a great time in our inflatable 3-man dingy, we had to carry it to the lake as there is no direct access to water from the site. Bala Lake was cold but we managed to go swimming on a few occasions (in wetsuits, as too chilly otherwise). We also took a train journey along the lake which was not cheap but fun!
Bala is a small town with a nice little main street with two supermarkets and a great pub (White Lion, I believe). Lots of little corner shops for souvenirs, a post office, an antique shop to name but a few.
We didn't have time for the White Water rafting but will be definitely visiting next time. Instead, we took our self built motorhome to Snowdon and enjoyed a night of wild camping by the foot of the mountains, we visited Electric Mountain and had a peaceful picnic by Lake Padarn in LLanberis - very picturesque!
All in all we all had a great time during our stay at Pen Y Bont and would definitely recommend this place to anyone exploring North Wales. We are hoping to visit again in the New Year.

Fantastic, clean and well run site. Easy walking distance to Bala town. Fantastic area for families with teenagers who like adventure. Hill walking, boating and the brilliant White Water Centre all within easy reach by car.
Really, really enjoyed our stay at this lovely, friendly site. The facilities were never so busy you had to queue and were always clean.
The bird table was a nice touch, it was nice to see the ducks strolling along! As I mentioned earlier, the white water centre is a must. Great fun, safe and well run with lovely staff and at an affordable price too.
Brilliant holiday, can't wait to go back.

North Wales' Hidden Treasure!
As I had 2 of my Godchildren staying with me for a week, aged 13 and 12, I decided to do something different. We were lucky enough to secure a Rent a Tent at the Pen Y Bont Campsite in Bala.
When we arrived, I wam immediately impressed by how clean, tidy and immaculately landscaped the site was. Cate and Peter, the site owners, greeted us very warmly and checked us into our tent. As someone who is more used to staying in hotels, I was again excited about how well equipped the tent was. In addition, to a gas hob, cutlery, cockery, tea and coffee, there was plenty of seating areas where we could make ourselves at home. There was even Wi-Fi!
The shower block was easily reached and was kept very clean and tidy. The water was always hot and the block was arranged in such a way that the toilets, basins and showers were all kept separate and so there was no facility blocking by other guests. I never had to wait to use any of the facilities.
The campsite was fully occupied but any worries about noise or unruly groups were completely dispelled. The site was so quiet at night that it was difficult to believe that we were actually camping!Everyone we met was very friendly.
The camp shop is well stocked and had local produce, chocolate and games to keep the children amused.
Lake Bala itself is beautiful with a wealth of activities available from walking, cycling, sailing and even a lake railway. You can get most things in the town which is handy even if the customer service isn't always what one would hope.
We all had a great time and would return again in a heartbeat. Cate and Peter have made Pen Y Bont a home from home and we would thoroughly recommend staying there.

We spent 3 pretty wet days on this lovely, friendly campsite close to Bala lake and town.
On arrival, we were booked in by Peter, given loads of local information and told where our large hardstanding pitch was. The site has a camping/tent section and a caravan/motorhome section, the second being mainly flat, with water points close to most pitches.
The shop/reception had all the essentials and you could even pre-order fresh meat from the local butcher in town for delivery to the site. Newspapers could also be pre-ordered - no delivery charge.
The central toilet block was always clean and never over busy during our stay. Under-cover washing up area was handy too, there's nothing like washing up listening to the torrential rain bouncing off the roof! Bins and re-cycling are housed here too. The site is on a well used 'B' road but it was quiet at night, just the sound of the birds (who never seemed to stop chirping) and the rain!
It's a short 10/15 minute stroll into Bala town where there's every shop you could need, at least 4 or 5 pubs and numerous tea rooms/coffee shops. We had a lovely meal in the White Lion Royal Hotel and it was a bargain @ 2 meals for £9. 99.
The Bala Lake Railway runs just 5 minutes walk from the site. Return trip takes about an hour and a half but we thought it was quite expensive for a narrow guage railway - £9. 50 per adult return - dogs did go free though! Maybe we'd have enjoyed it more if we been able to see the views through the rain!
Pen-y-Bont is a very well run, tidy, friendly site and we would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone or return.

We chose this site to try out our new to us caravan as it was not too far from home. We had a hardstanding pitch with our own water and drainage, next to the sculptures. It was a lovely spot and would hope to have again when we return, which we definitely will.
The site is within walking distance of Bala and the lake, set in lovely scenery. There is an on site shop will all your basics, a very clean toilet block, laundry room and washing-up area.
The grounds are well kept and the pitches are well spaced out. Would highly recommend.

Nice friendly site, greeted by a seasonal pitch holder, as owner nipped out, but lovely gentleman. Pitch good size, waste pipe to short as wrong side.
Sloping pitches so come prepared, we ended up using a jack and large wood logs. Good clean facilities. No dog walk on site but 3mins to lovely walk through the trees.
Bala lake could do with litter picking and maybe a marked route to walk around it. Barmouth well with a visit, beautiful beach that is dog friendly.

We stayed here over the Bank Holiday weekend when the site was completely full. We received a warm welcome from Peter the owner and were soon settled onto our excellent hardstanding pitch, with hook up, water and drainage adjacent.
There was a good mix of units on site and everyone was very friendly. The facility block was first class and extremely clean; exceptionally so given how busy it was.
The location is excellent, being right at the head of Bala Lake and within a 10 minute walk of the town itself.
We are keen cyclists and were out on quiet roads within a minute of leaving the site; wonderful.
This is my first ever review and the only reason I'm only giving it 9 stars, is because I felt the shower room could have been a bit warmer (the overhead heater didn't seem to have much effect).
All in all one of the best sites we've stayed on and it has a lovely feel to it.

Stayed here over Easter 2012. Had wanted to visit since we stayed in the area last Easter.
Can't say enough to praise this site - the owner went out of his way to accommodate our booking, and not only that, offered us a better pitch than originally allocated when we arrived.
Now for the site- perfectly located within walking distance of Bala where you can buy most things, several pubs, cafes & grocery shops. Woodland walks right from the site. Right next to the lake if you want to do watersports. We did white water rafting, went on the steam train & a long woodland walk, walked into town several times while we were there. There are also things like horse riding close by. Well located to explore more of Wales with Barmouth, Mountain Biking & other attractions nearby.
My only concern was that the site is right off a B road and that road noise would disturb us - but don't let this put you off - It was totally silent at night.
Fellow campers were friendly - mostly families and couples - the site was quiet at night. Pitches spacious so you didn't feel on top of your neighbours.
Landscaped site, neat & tidy, spotless in fact. A variety of pitches, some hardstanding, some grass. Recycling is promoted but not in your face. Washing facilities good with four showers in female area & 4 sinks, plug socket for hairdryer/straighteners (20p). Never had to queue. Showers free, nice hot water. Sensor operated heat lamp.
Covered washing up area with several sinks.
We don't have children but all the children seemed happy & well behaved.
Shop sells basic items & camping equipment, I noted it to be cheaper than a lot of the shops in Bala. Girl who manned the desk & shop (owner's daughter? was friendly and polite.
Saw the owner once or twice - they just leave you to get on with it, friendly but unobtrusiveness.
Prices very reasonable I thought for such a good site at peak season.
We had a great weekend despite chilly weather - we missed the heatwave by a week. At least it wasn't blowing a gale! Did rain on the Monday - we left early (we were supposed to stay till Tuesday) but this was so we missed the rain.
Everyone we came across during our stay was friendly & cheerful. I would say this is a site well suited to quiet families or couples rather than groups.
Recommended site, would definitely go back.
