Easy walking distance from the town centre and the lake. The owners, Cate & Peter, are lovely and go out of their way to make everyone feel very welcome.
On-site shop stocked for emergency supplies - teabags, milk and biccies!
Toilet/shower facilities are kept exceptionally clean! We love the efforts being made to help maintain our environment - push button water, recycling bins etc.
Ideal location for site seeing and walking in the area whilst maintaining a 'homely feel' that made us want to come back time after time. We've met some great people and thoroughly enjoyed our summer on this site. We'd happily recommend it to anyone. We'll be back there next year.

We spent 10 days of family holidays at Y Bala, during the Eisteddfod 2009. Bottom line first: It was a very pleasant stay, and we would certainly like to return some day (alas, it's not just next door from South Germany.).

The caravan park is run by a family, who were very welcoming, and very helpful throughout our stay. The park is bigger than it seems at first glance, but nicely divided with large, hard standing pitches. Our pitch was beneath large trees, which sheltered us from the wind.

The toilet/shower facilities were very clean, but not of the highest standard. Still, absolutely fine for us. The only drawback is the high price for the laundry, which has also been noted by earlier posters.

Access is easy, even with a large caravan.

The town centre is within walking distance (15 mins), and there is a nice bakery on the way selling organic bread (Siop y Gornel, I believe it was).

The site is a wonderful base for walking tours, even directly from the site: We walked from the site along the hills on the opposite side of the lake to the village Llanuwchllyn at the other end of the lake, and took the narrow gauge steam railway from there back to the camping site. The station is just next to the site! (Be sure to take a good map with you for this walk.)

We have just returned from a week here at Pen Y Bont.

The site is very nice, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The site shop was well stocked.

The toilet and shower block was clean and tidy, my only gripe was the showers, they are the 'push type' taps and only stay on for about 20 seconds and then you have to push on again. The same taps were on the water points, and having to hold the tap in to fill a 50 litre water barrel takes it toll on the old hands.

Another negative is that the laundry is very expensive, to wash and dry a full load it will cost you £8, £4 for the wash and £2 per half hour drying, and you will need 1 hour to ensure your wash is dried fully.

The site is well situated for exploring the local area, which has some excellent scenery and very nice walks.

The only downfall to our holiday was that it rained every day, but despite that I would recommend the site.

Visited this campsite for the first time in August 2008 and although it was very busy we never had to queue for the facilities, which were spotless at all times. My daughter and I were dropped off and stayed without transport for five days. The owners were so friendly and welcoming and when they knew we were on our own they told us if we needed help with anything to not hesitate knocking on their private quarters, they are lovely people. We made lots of friends and had such a good time we returned again this year in June. Its not far to walk into bala town and the lake itself is just five mins walk. Highly recommend this site.

I have stayed here on several occasions.

It is a nice quiet friendly site. It welcomes dogs as long as they are under control which is great for us.

Ample shower and toilet facilities and a great vegetable prep and washing up area all centrally situated so wherever youare pitched its only a stones throw!

A great base for wandering around the area, the White Water Centre is just up the road on the way to Llyn Celyn and Dolgellau, Barmouth, Aberdovey etc within reach.

We are going up again this weekend with the intention of walking up Cader Idris if the weather holds, if not well we'll just hang around Bala!

Had a happy 9 nights at Peny Y Bont this month whilst working at the Eisteddfod. Haven't been to many camp sites so hard to compare. But it did have everything I'd expect to make it an easy stay.

Free hot showers were good. Piped music in shower block. To make it better I think they need to install some extractor fan for the toilet side of the block. It was a bit smelly, but still probably better than most the site you read about. I was on the east side of site and this meant my tent was in shade of trees for most of morning. Did envy the other tents drying in the sun a bit!

I need a disabled loo and this one was good. A great reassurance for me. The owners are friendly and helpful. The gates for cars are locked at 11pm, which is probably a good thing. Because I was working late each night they were willing to lock them even later. But a decided to walk to work each day and use the smaller unlockable gate each time. A 15 min walk into town centre passed the lake was very pleasant too. Would stay there again for work or may be next time with the family.

An excellent site we stayed two nights in July09 clean and tidy with good facilities. Owners very friendly and helpful. Probably a good idea to book in advance as it seemed popular. Close to the town of Bala about 10 mins walk away where there are shops and pubs. There lots of walks in the area both low level and more mountainous. The lake allows leisure activities such as sailing and wind surfing. The local narrow gauge railway running the length of the lake provides pleasure for young and old kids alike.

Well worth a visit and if I am back the area again I will surely try and stay here.

There is very little to add to other reviews, we are new to caravanning, the owner helped us park up and lent us a hookup lead as ours was too short.

What a great site this is, very friendly and a great location.

On the Saturday night we walked into Bala town and visited all of their pubs, 5 in total.

We drove to Barmouth and visited the lake and railway.

All in all an enjoyable visit, well recommended.

Arrived at the site and got a warm welcome. All the facilities were explained thoroughly and our pitch was shown to us on a map.

Our pitch was on a slight slope which in a tent caused some problems for our table and sleeping.

The site is close to a road which we thought was hardly used, until rush hour. If you like a silent site this is not one, although it's bareable.

The showers and washing up facilities were said on here to be excellent. I would not agree but call them basic, in need of updating and shared many a shower with cobwebs, spiders and flies.

The shop again, has all you need but is basic.

We unfortunately had rather poor weather during our stay, and noisy tent neighbours on out last night.

We loved our stay at Pen-y-Bont. Being Dutch we own a 'continental' caravan, with the door and awning on the 'wrong' side. No problem for the kind and helpful owners! They made sure that on the adjacent pitch only a camper without awning would camp!

Toilet block was cleaned every morning by a young gentleman. Friendly but sometimes missed a tiny spot. Hairdryer was provided for (10 p). At the dishwashing facilities the hot water was reasonable hot, but could be more hot. Never the less, we would stay here again when in the area.
