This is a great site! You can pitch where you like and there is plenty of room. The toilets were clean and warm, (very welcome during the cold evenings), with family bathrooms containing shower, loo and washbasin.
There is a bar/leisure complex on site with a swimming pool which is situated well away from the camping area, which is perfect for those campers that don`t want that. There is a well stocked shop and tourist info point too.
I will certainly consider going back to this site next time i`m in that area.

Ended up here as the Lakes were overflowing! What a great site. It is a pitch where you like site and we were lucky enough to find a recently vacated corner site with our very own picnic table! As it wasn't half term in Scotland the site wasn't too busy and plenty of space between units. The kids play area is fantastic and certainly kept three 10-12 year olds occupied for hours. Shower blocks were immaculate at all times (and it was wet!) Tip for hairdryer users - the slot for the 20p is on the top of the box - easily missed if you are not too tall. My only girly gripe is that there were no plugs for my straighteners (must take hat next time!) Loads of hot water. Shop well stocked and not too pricey. Didn't rate the food at the club much but only ate there once. Never made it swimming but pool looked ok. Beware mobile phone fanatics - NO signal anywhere on site except maybe a bar or two up at the golf club. There is a payphone at the club but the payphone at reception can not phone mobile numbers for some reason. Spent an afternoon in Kirkudbright - best fish and chips I've had in a long time! For a few hours cheap entertainment for kids (and adults) go to the Supersaver shop and buy a crab line and bucket (£3.00) go to the fish shop and buy a sardine (ask them to cut it up for you if you're squeamish) and go crabbing off the harbour - brilliant fun we caught about 40! But make sure you go when the tide is in (if it's in at the site it will be here) we went back the next day when the tide was out and it's a heart stopping moment for any parent looking at the drop to the water! Nothing much that we found within walking distance of the site and nearest town is 6 Miles away but plenty on the site to keep you entertained. Nice walk along the cliffs. Brilliant four days in spite of some bad weather would recommend to anyone and will defo return.

I love this site! This was our second visit of the year. Visited at Easter time and then returned with friends in July.
The site is absolutely crammed with things to do. There's a swimming pool, golf, fishing, trekking the list goes on and on. Obviously go on to their website if you want all the info.
There are different areas for tents. I like the camping field near the entrance to the park. It's close enough to reception, toilet block and shop without being totally in the thick of things. The other camping areas are closer to the play area and I felt just a bit more busy and noisy. (not a complaint, just a statement!)
I don't have kids but I feel this site is definitely child friendly. Plenty to keep them entertained.
The toilet/shower facilities are fantastic! Absolutely spotless and serviced regularly. I really like the all in one toilet/shower cubicles, plenty room to place your stuff and dress in privacy.
The club house serves reasonable food at reasonable prices. No complaints.
The shop is well stocked and very well priced. Especially worth credit as it's the only shop nearby.
All staff I encountered were very pleasant and helpful.
There is a very pretty little beach right next to the campsite and lots of walking opportunities.
The nearby town of Kirkcudbright (approx 5 or 6 miles) is lovely. The whole surrounding area is very pretty and has lots of attractions. Two visits in one year and there's still more to explore!
This is one of the more expensive sites I've visited but I definitely feel it's worth it. Given the standard of facilities I didn't grudge a penny.
Will absolutely visit again.

Just back from staying over Easter at Brighouse Bay.
For once didn't get lost or any arguments on how to get there, sign posted : )
Site is one of the largest that we have been too before, reception staff were friendly, information booklet given when we booked in, map of the site etc.
Unfortunately the ground on the site was extremely soft and we got stuck when we tried to reverse into the Pitch, out came 3 other caravanner's to try to help, even an offer of a glass of wine for me. No joy still stuck, so the tractor was called and it don't seem to be a problem to the guy. Checked with us that we were pitched fine after the 2nd tug out of the mud.
The pitch that we were in only had a peg number, the area was a good size didn't feel that you were on top of anyone even though the site appeared to be very busy.
Toilet blocks were kept clean, never had to wait for a shower, good warm powerful showers too. Dish washing area was good too.
Only went to the entertainment suite once but really wasn't for us. Didn't use the leisure facilities either, though you needed to pay separately.
The scenery was just fab, nice walks onto the bay and outskirts of the site.
Do need your own transport to do things out of the site though. Not much around for about 4 -6 miles that I know of. Castle douglas etc within reach though
Very pleasant site indeed. Everyone we spoke too seemed nice too. Though my teenager daughter wasn't too amused that her mobile phone wasn't always working.
You can buy internet access but was a bit temperamental when trying to get a connection. Would go back

As we approached this site we were pleased to find such a beautiful sandy bay, so not knowing anything of the site were also pleased by the duck ponds and entrance area in general.
Site staff were helpful and promoted all facilities the site offered, swimming pool, steam room, bistro, games and bowling alleys.
It was the end of Oct and with rain forecast we had family vote and booked in, despite fees seeming steep compared to all other sites visited in same fortnight.
Unfortunately pool was cold and the jacuzzi was out-of-order, neither of which we were told when we had to pay to enter the pool area. The steam room is also extra on top of the pool charge.
Very disappointed in cleanliness of pool and changing area, and no spinner for costumes. Absolutely no facilities for less mobile visitors.
£1.70 for a token to dry towels in laundry area later.
Decided to give `Bistro` swift swerve after passing through it to access pool.
Unisex shower/toilet block on site with `discreet` urinals was a bit disconcerting and unfortunately two of the four cubicals were out-of-order which was forcing some people to use disabled cubical without considering their less mobile fellow campers!
Water on this site is apparently `heated by the sun` not sure if this was an excuse for it being virtually cold or not. Cold showers are not pleasant, I even had to boil water in my van in order to warm up the water in the washing-up area.
This site won awards ten years ago, all-in-all I think its time for a spruce up and a thoroughly good cleaning.

Wonderful location, superb views from nearby cliff walk. Dogs enjoyed beach walks. Site very quiet despite warm autumn weather, so not able to gauge what it would be like in peak season. Were visited in tent by a robin, one of many birds which delighted us with their early morning singing.
Facilities were good. Toilet blocks very clean, although I was not very comfortable with unisex toilet / showers. Would not choose pitch near plane again as there was quite a lot of traffic noise in the early hours.
Food on offer at club was adequate and shop was well-stocked.
Will definitely return.

This is a very large site which was very busy in July (lots of tourers, tents and motorhomes and several very large static areas).
Plus points: Toilets were cleaned regularly (at 11pm one night), although with the number of people using them they did tend to get dirty again quite quickly.
Although busy, the site was very quiet, especially after 11pm (although it did seem a lot noisier around the kids play area so if you don't have kids and come in the school holidays ask for a pitch away from this area).
The beach was lovely and the water was reasonably warm (or so I'm told)
The cliff walk was fantastic - a great way to wake up.
Not so good points: Not sure about the unisex toilets - a bit disconcerting to walk in and find members of the opposite sex there.
Having toilet, sink and shower all in one cubicle meant that some were occupied for ages.
Everything cost extra and under 14's had to be supervised, which was a bit of a pain as we have three kids (16, 13 and 10) and couldn't even let them go swimming in the pool without one of us having to go into the water with them.
All in all, nice well maintained site in a lovely part of the country but we probably won't return as it was a bit big for us.

Our fourth year at Brighouse, we have seen all the four seasons there over this time. The weather was unimportant as the 'chill out' factor was top.
Facilities are excellent and clean:
Good laundry and not too badly priced, held the same price for the past 4 years.
Excellent showers, always warm and not usually too busy, kept clean and tidy, and always smelled pleasant.
Golf is great, my 12 year old conquered the 9 hole course and partner took on the 18 hold course, you do need appropriate clothes though for the 18 hole, so we had to go buy trousers!
Good stocked shop and quite reasonably priced
Staff are always friendly and helpful, even if it's not part of their job, the owners are also polite and chatty.
Touring pitches are fairly level and a good size, need a long TV lead, which you can hire or buy, good TV reception.
Bins were emptied every day usually around 9.30am.
Nice pleasant walk down to the beach, we even took our kayaks down, the only downfall was the jellyfish. Beach can get quite littered, but we found out it was the council's responsibility
Kirkcudbright a very pleasant place to visit, in fact the bakery by supersave is excellent. Most shops are very dog friendly, even the town hall hosting an art exhibition looked after our dog while we had a look.
The wildlife park is well worth a visit and not too expensive.
Crab fishing on the harbour is great fun and very cheap, and if timed right it's interesting to watch the trawlers come in and unload their catch, even better with fish and chips.
Could do with more recycling bins around.
Definitely going back, in fact booked for October and then a winter season from Nov-March.

We stayed at Brighouse Bay between 18th and 26th August 2008.
The weather was either bright sunshine or rain and it didn't matter at all.The site is immaculate and the staff very friendly. The beach is stunning-either long and sandy when the tide is out or short and 'Pebbley' when in.The sea is nice and warm . Surprising for the Irish sea !
The pitches on the whole were a good size, but recent heavy rain had changed grass into mud.
Kiddy area- Modern and safe.
Shop - Reasonable prices.
Toilets/Showers-Immaculate.
Staff - Excellent.
Club House- Reasonable Prices, Food Okay.
Pool - Excellent although not cheap £6 family.
Pony Trekking - Rip off, it's not a Trek, it's a walk around a field led by an uninterested 16 year old stable girl who has no real concern for you or your children.' grab a hat and make sure it's tight ,' £36 for 40 minutes for Two kids, I lead my daughter sat on a pony around a field next to the stables in a line of Seven others ! Please avoid.
Cream o' Galloway - a full days entertainment, the walks are great, Ice Cream lovely !
Visit Kircudbright, pronounced Kircoorbree.
Fantastic fun, buy a Crab line from the shops next to the harbour, stick some meat or fish on the end and go fishing , the crabs grab on and SEVEN in one go was our record !
The stay wasn't cheap , but we didn't mind as the location was spot on .
Go and enjoy.

Just got back from a windswept and very wet weekend at Brighouse. Great toilet and shower block which didn't get that busy considering the park was full. Didn't manage to get to use much of their facilities due to the weather (golf course, fishing lakes etc)but the onsite shop more than adequate and pub/clubhouse did some decent food at a reasonable price.
Could have done with a 'flyer' when we arrived to explain the site facilities (found the tumble dryer on the day we left) but all in all a very good site but for £80 for 3 nights a little too expensive.
