We spent a few days over Easter here as a bit of a tester site for our new tent.
Its a nice clean site and its enormous. We got one of the pitches below the Old Jet fighter plane that they have at reception. The pitch we were given was a Sand pitch and It was a nightmare to pitch a new tent on it as it was a damp day and wet sand and pegs just don't go together. Once the tent was up though, it was plain sailing, but I wasn't happy about having sand everywhere.
The facilities are excellent. There are unisex showers/toilets with family shower rooms and its all nice and warm and quite luxurious inside too.
The playpark is in the words of my kids 'Awesome' and we even enjoyed a play on the swings.
We went swimming in the site pool and again its a really nice pool with plenty of space for a good swim or just a little paddle about. There's a jacuzzi that is for adults only, but I don't think they really enforce the adult rule much as there were kids in it when we were there.
The Cafe attached to the pool seemed very reasonable and the food looked very appetising and big portions although I'm only going on the food I saw being served as I was only in for a coffee and a cake. But it certainly looked like good value for money.
There are lots of fishing opportunities in the site and a lot of nice walks due to the sheer size of the site. The actual bay can be accessed at the bottom of the site and its a lovely place.
There is a fully stocked shop and its not too expensive for the basics and they sell things like fishing bait too. Kirkcudbright isnt too far away and has a small smattering of shops if you need anything the camp shop hasnt got.
One thing to be aware of is that mobile phone signals can be sketchy around Brighouse. I got absolutely no service whatsoever and neither did my wife who is with a different mobile phone provider.
Entertainment at night was non existent at the time of year we went. There was a private party in the complex one of the nights and there was nothing happening the other nights we stayed (we stayed a midweek break Monday-Friday). It didn't matter to us as we entertain ourselves.
All in all its a great site, quite remote but plenty to keep you busy. I'd imagine in high season the club would be in full swing too.
Typically we pitched our tent in the rain, spent the whole time in dull overcast weather and the day we were coming home - the sun came out. Cant blame the site for that though.
Would I return? Yes, but probably in the summer months. I do feel its a wee bit remote for my tastes as I like to be nearby a town. The rest of my family would disagree though as they had a ball.

Have been to Brighouse four times over the last three years and I'm horrified by the deterioration in cleanliness. The toilets are in severe need of a deep clean. I'm not talking about them being dirty due to normal use etc I'm talking about ingrained filth.
There used to be teams of cleaners keeping these toilets/showers in tip top condition but that's clearly a thing of the past! The only staff member I witnessed did nothing more than top up the toilet roll. Also no fixed closing of the toilets/showers at any time of the day to allow a decent clean.
Every shower I used this weekend had drainage issues but then again I return to the cleanliness issue and suspect that a good dose of bleach would help.
Honestly Brighouse used to be my benchmark site for all other sites - absolutely no more.
Honestly am gutted that my all time favourite site has fallen in this way. It's a beautiful site in a fantastic location but honestly the filthy facilities will stop me making any more visits.

First time camping experience, and we loved it! Brighouse Bay is a very clean and welcoming site. Had a choice of pitches and the one we chose was in a good place.
The toilet blocks were clean and the showers were hot! We have no complaints about either of the toilet blocks.
The shop was well stocked and a walk to the clubhouse was worth it. Entertainment was a laugh! My partner made good use of the golf course, and the views from there are stunning.
We had 8 great days at Brighouse Bay and we will definitely be back.

This is a 'Best of British' site. Very good first impressions, efficient and friendly reception staff, nice landscaping. We had a serviced pitch, which was extremely spacious.
There is a short walk to a beach, which thanks to the weather we were able to enjoy! There is a golf course which we didn't use but obviously lot of people go there for it, judging by the golf buggies parked outside some of the static caravans.
We used the swimming pool for which there was a small charge - we cycled up to the complex as quite a walk. We had hoped to book horseriding but unfortunately fully booked during our short stay. Shop was well stocked and very reasonably priced.
I have rated this site highly as it had everything we needed, including the weather! We didn't use the restaurant or the entertainment. We found the site to be very peaceful.

Just returned from a fab long weekend at Brighouse Bay. Excellent site, great fully stocked shop, everything you need from Beer, frozen food, papers, toys etc.
Huge playpark - our 7 year old loved it. Loads to do and tons of space even though it was really busy being the school October holidays. Pool looked great although we didn't try it this time but will on our next visit. Bar/Leisure club was nice, didn't eat in it but looked quite good.
Pitches are reasonable size, we went for a fully serviced but wasn't really necessary, water / waste all fairly close by. Toilet block was reasonable, could do with a bit of TLC, but overall a great site. Town of Kirkcudbright only 10 min drive away, beautiful little town, great fish and chips from Polar Bites on the car park.
Cream O' Galloway factory near Castle Douglas was a great day out. Adventure playground, ice cream tasting, indoor soft play etc. Well worth a visit. Site was easy to get to, bit of a single track up to the site but plenty of passing places.

We visited Brighouse Bay for 4 days in September, they advertise all of the facilities they have and it looks really good.
During our stay the steamroom and jaccuzi were both out of order and they couldn't find the bowls for the ten pin bowling?
We used the restaurant and the quality of food was erratic, beware do not order hot choclate fudge cake as you will get a pattern of unwanted fingerprints around your plate.
The toilets are in need of upgrading and a deep clean as they are in a poor condition which is not acceptable as they charge £28 per night.
We wont be returning Brighouse Bay in the future.

I see most recent reviews are by folk camping with tents or in statics, and our motorhome weekend may give a different perspective. We came here because the other Kirkcudbright sites we use were full due to the parade weekend.
My husband rated the site, like many reviews do. Pitches are well separated. We enjoyed the dog walk through the old woods to the beach - fabulous at sunset, very restful.
Don't be put off by the term 'unisex' toilets, it would have been better if they'd been called Family rooms (shower, loo and sink in each room), and there's CCTV looking at the public areas here. There are also separate male and female toilets in the same block.
I do have a few wee quibbles and niggles, and I appreciate they may not be relevant to most folk:
* At about 28 GBP a night for an EHU pitch, it's very expensive compared to other Kirkcudbright sites (one Certificated site nearby; one Council site in town is about 10 GBP cheaper) - unless you're going to use all the facilities (fishing, horse riding, swimming pool, boating, entertainment in the bar, bar meals, golf, play area, big shop etc). We didn't use these, so I can't comment on them.
* In a motorhome, you're allocated an EHU pitch, you don't choose it. This is an absolutely massive site, and trees divide it up into smaller enclaves, or act as windbreaks, but also block out sun and views on parts of the site. Our pitch was in the shade most of the day, so I'd have looked to move if we'd been staying longer.
* I was subtly pressured to pay in advance to ensure a pitch, as the site was apparently filling up fast. In fact, there were dozens of EHU pitches available. I suggest you pay for one night, and then once you've settled in decide whether or not to stay for additional nights.
The ultimate test is, would we come back? No, we'd prefer the other sites in the Kirkcudbright area as they are quieter and cheaper and have beautiful views from the pitches. However, these sites won't give you the 'holiday park' experience, if that's what you enjoy.

Stayed for 16 nights and had a great time. Had a fully serviced pitch which was a good size but had problems setting up as were not level. Once set up was fine, they need to spend a bit money and level the pitches up.
Restaurant was great, food very reasonable priced and food was lovely every time. Entertainment for kids was good and they had a great time.
Swing park for the kids was fantastic and was very quiet at night time.
All in all a good park but need more fully serviced pitches.
Hopefully going back next year.
Showers and toilets were ok but need a good clean, would not say they were five star.
Shop was good and reasonable priced too !

We have visited this sight on many occasions, staying in our own tent and also renting out log cabins and static vans, The park is a wonderful venue for family's with a games room and pool which is kept clean. The toilet and shower facilities have always been kept clean on our visits and staff are always friendly and willing to help. The on site shop is well stocked. The park is a big hit with my children as are the local walks.
This site has a club house and bar however lacks evening entertainment for children, the bistro has a good range of food however can be over priced.
Over all a good site and will use again

Lovely site set in beautiful countryside and with stunning beaches and bays around the site. Site was very well run with good staff at reception, shop and when we had a problem with toilet filling up with water, problem solved within the day by very courteous guy.
Food in leisure club was good both times we used it. Only drawback to site for us was swimming pool is a bit small and the site shop didn't seem so well stocked.
Apart from that, we would come back again. Very good site.
