We visited Brighouse for 4 nights in early July (2 adults and a 3 and 6 year old) and thought it was great. Had everything you could ask for and much much more. Was a bit remote being 6 miles away from the nearest town/village but there was plenty to do on site.
I thought it was fairly quiet which suited us well and we did a few day trips while we were there. To anyone thinking of going its a lovely spot to be.

Recently enjoyed a two night visit with two toddlers and enjoyed my stay. I thought that the facilities overall were very good as there was lots to do on site and off. It was a very beautiful park. It was a very family and pet friendly site and I found it very peaceful (even in the mornings!) I never saw any dog mess although there were plenty of people with pets.
We enjoyed the beach, the different play parks, the ponds, the pub which was fine with entertainment and the swimming pool. If we had more time we would have went to the stables and the otter pool and I am sure others would enjoy the golf and fishing. We also visited the Cream O Galloway which was fantastic for the kids although you have to get involved in all the slides etc! The local town was lovely too with its marina and we stumbled on a pipe band performance in the large square.
The only thing letting it down was the cleanliness of the toilet unisex block. By the third day I was much more aware that it needed a good scrub and not just a wee wipe down. Also as it is unisex I think they need to clean it more than once a day. Someone did say that the new block was better.

Booked in advance for 4 nights, pitch spacious with EHU near the toilet block. Lovely site, plenty to do, lovely park for the kids but was quite noisy in the evening as the older kids seemed to congregate and be used as a meeting place. Lots of activities for all ages, nice woodland walk to the beach, ideal for dogs.
At first I didn't warm to the idea of unisex facilities but it caused no problem at all, in fact it was a bonus to be able to let my husband supervise the kids for toilet/wash visits for a change. I probably have been spoilt by the cleanliness of toilet/shower facilities at a Caravan & Camping Club site as I thought the facilities could have been cleaner.
Would go back to the area but like to stay at different sites, so probably wouldn't return.

I have been to Brighouse bay 5-6 times now. Facilities are dated and the entertainment is only entertaining in a car crash kind of way. The bar area is slightly grubby but everyone is very nice and helpful.
One thing I will say is that the surrounding area is absolutely fantastic. Stunning bays and beaches with views over to the isle of man on a clear day. There is also a challenging golf course with buggy hire available.
A previous review mentioned they would mark brighouse down due to the lack of lighting and how dark it gets. This in my eyes is one of the biggest pros of Brighouse, it does get very dark but on a cloud free night you can rest assured you will see the sky like never before. It must be seen to be understood. This is one of the main reasons I continue to visit as it is truly beautiful.

Just back from 5 great nights at Brighouse Bay, our first visit ( but not our last).
It really is a great site with something for every one ( golf, horse riding, quad bikes, fishing, swimming, kids entertainment etc)
There was plenty of space but it was reasonably quiet the week we were there.
The road to the site, and by that I mean the 5 miles from Kirkcudbright town centre,is a bit on the narrow side often single track with passing places, but the road is pretty quiet so no real problem.
Toilet/shower facilities were clean enough and plenty of them but could perhaps do with some refurbishment before too long.
TV was fine using the site connection( no signal via van aerial). Also no mobile signal all week with T Mobile or 3, although I did see others using mobiles so some networks must have coverage.
Only other criticism is that it was very very dark at night, either going to toilet blocks or making way back from clubhouse. You really couldn't see your hand in front of your face.
However all in all a very good site

Just got back from brighouse bay campsite - it rained all week, but the campsite is fab. We had loads of space to camp, you can choose where to pitch.
We pitched in the quiet field nearer the entrance, but next time would probably camp bit further up nearer to the leisure club and play park.
Toilet/shower block clean and warm. No queues for showers or washing up, plenty of hot water.
Went to a kids disco and family quiz night at the leisure club which were good fun. Swimming pool clean and warm and nice friendly staff. Costs £6 for a family swim.
The beach is 2 minutes walk from site. We also visited Cream O Galloway Ice Cream Dairy and Adventure Playground which was excellent.
Local town of Kircudbright does Scottish Evening of music and dancing every Thursday through the summer. Also has art galleries and boat trips from the marina.

I have been coming to Brighouse Bay since you were allowed to camp wild on the beach. Unfortunately, this was stopped, but the bay campsite opened. During that time it has developed into a very popular family site. I always camp away from the play area to avoid the noise - the kids can safely get there on their bikes.
Recently attempts have been made to introduce entertainment in the clubhouse. I don't doubt that this will have increased the popularity of the site, but for me it has detracted from it. I am not the Butlins type! Also, the last time we were there there was an element who were unable to limit their drinking habits and inevitably there was trouble.
Having said that, this is a beautiful area, the bay itself has a fantastic long sloping beach area and a lovely coastal path. We always have a wonderful family holiday and will continue to visit (omitting the clubhouse in future).

This campsite is lovely - lots of space for your tent - not too near your neighbours. Showerblock lovely and clean cubicles with shower, toilet, sink. The pool was great kids had a fab time, we ate in the restaurant one night, just burgers but they were fine. The shop was nice well stocked and for 25p they refroze my ice blocks. Visited Dumfries and Gallaway ice cream farm - good day out - did the tour - tasted 10 different ice creams and they have a great adventure playground in the trees - kids had a ball. Would definitely recommend this site.

This is a really great site! Stayed for 4 days with my partner and our 2 boys(aged 4/6)
The location is wonderful and if your lucky enough to get the good weather the beach is a great place for the kids. We spent hours exploring the rock pools and our first night we spent a few hours with a campfire on the beach.
The site is massive and when you arrive you are given a map with 2 areas that you can set up camp in. After that you pick your spot! When we arrived it was very busy but we still got a good, spacious pitch. The park itself is very nice with access to the beach, duck ponds etc.
The shop is very well stocked and reasonably priced.
The toilet shower block is excellent and I loved the idea of the 'en suite units' - a cubicle containing a shower sink and loo. Was always very clean when we used it too. My only gripe is that for a park of this size there is nowhere near enough of them and had to queue almost every time. Like I said the park was very busy when we were there and it wouldn't have been so bad outwith the summer holidays.
The play park was also excellent and the kids loved it,suitable for all ages in my opinion. Swimming pool is freezing! but jacuzzi is worth it if you've aches and pains from sleeping on an airbed!
The only thing I didn't like about this site is there is a lot of traffic driving through it. People seem to drive cars everywhere and you constantly had to jump into the grass to avoid cars, 4x4, bikes. Not so good with little ones.
This is a family park. It is noisy and there are kids everywhere which on this occasion as a family holiday suited us but if your looking for a peaceful quiet site don't come during the school holidays! Overall a fantastic park I would come back and recommend

Absolutely one of the best sites I have visited in recent years. Clean showerblocks and toilets. Shared facilities ( ie Family Shower blocks ) spot on. Kids park is just right for kids. Nice helpful staff at local shop. All on site staff helpful and pleasent. Not keen on the idea of having dogs on site ( even though I am a dog owner myself). Cliff walks are stunning. Nice golf course too. Swimming pool was of decent size with jacuzzi and steam room. Small games room for the kids. Clubhouse clean and tidy.
Close to attractions such as the Cream o Galloway, and the Cocoa Bean Company ( chocolate factory)
Lovely little beaches dotted along the coastline.
Near to Kirkudbright--(kirkoobree is what the locals call it - or that's what it sounds like when they mention the town name). Gorgeous countryside surrounds the camp site which has nice little fishing ponds scattered around it. Definitely a place to revisit. Not for the pub go-er / nightlife seeking people though. A pleasant and relaxed place to visit. Five Stars in my eyes.
