2nd time here, excellent site, great facilities hot showers but you might have to wait 10 or 15 mins. Bottle bank a bit too close this time but despite this and the bad weather a great time was had by all. Please try Kircudbright swimming pool as an alternative to the site pool at busy times. Games room can get a bit rowdy for younger children at night but with adequate supervision it is fine. We will be back.

Just had a week at Brighouse and wanted to write this review while still fresh in my mind .
Large pitches and clean facilities. Lots of lovely walks in the woodland down to a stoney beach.
The site has got to be one of the largest sites we have ever been on and we did have a nice large pitch. Kiddies park was great with lots of rope swings great for young and the young teens.
But here start the gripes this site cost over £33 a night and we took out 13 yr and his friend hoping they would have a bit of fun but all activities on site had to have adult supervision
14 yrs and under could not go swimming alone, fish alone, or go on the boats alone. And 15 to 17 yr olds had to have parental consent forms signed. Also it cost £6 per family to swim. £2 for 30 mins on the boats £14 a day for bike hire
Lovely site but they must be making a fortune
Shame really

This site is well worth a visit it has every thing you could possibly need we stayed for a long weekend it is our second visit we didn't even have enough time to visit the beach with two children in tow the facilities are second to none. Big praise for the shower blocks and toilets free hot water and they even have family bathrooms and unisex facilities so the whole family can shower together. We will be going back.

Excellent site really good facilities on site, toilets second to none, close to beach app 250 yards away can carry kayaks to beach but also has launching slipway you can get permission to drive to. On site bar prices are ok £2.50 a pint, also has good indoor pool plus 9 hole golf good for 90 mins entertainment but also full 18 holes if you want longer for golf
Nearest town app 15 mins drive away but dont let that put you off this site we were made welcome and had an excellent stay.

Can't Praise this campsite enough.
Stayed 4 times now over the last 3 years and everytime had a cracking time.
There's plenty to do on site, inc. Golf, swimming, pony trecking, listening to a CLiff Richard Tribute act! (Not everyones cup of tea, but pretty funny!)
The Childrens play ground keeps ketting bigger and better which my Son loves.
The shop is fine, and the bar and resturant is well priced.
The toilet and shower blocks are always very clean, and there's plenty of staff around to make sure things are well run and looked after.
Also, if you do go one brilliant local attraction is the Cream of Galloway Ice Cream center, which is 100% Fab!
Brighouse Bay is well worth the trip.

This visit was our fourth time at Brighouse Bay. It is our favourite site, being very well maintained, with excellent facilities and in such a great location. It is suitable for couples and families, and is quiet and peaceful, with no late night noise. The pitches are flat and even and the facilities are modern and regularly cleaned. The area itself is great. With some nice town and country drives in close proximity. There are also some great walks to be had along the coast.
We have enjoyed every visit and plan to return very soon

We visited Brighouse Bay in Summer 2005. The long weekend was gloriously hot - we stayed 3 nights.
We were pitched on a large open area with a number of friends pitched around. We did not use hookups. There was a plentiful supply of drinking and washing water close by. The bin area needed to be emptied a bit more often though over a busy weekend. We had loads of space especially for the (3) kids and the dog that accompanied us.
The kids loved the park and the play area near the restaurant. We thought that Brighouse Bay was beautiful. The facilities were clean and more than adequate - hot water whenever it was needed. The shop ran out of some essentials however, due to the hot weather, bottled water being one. We did not anticipate the heat that year! The restaurant was good for a filling meal, a large group of us ate there and had a selection from the menu which came in good time. The food was reasonable and not too pricey. We did not use the bar in the evening, we preferred to gather around our tents as it was so hot but we sat in the outside drinking area a few times with the kids happily playing in the play area.
Brighouse Bay beach is absolutely stunning, fantastic for the children as long as they don't go into the sea as the tides are dangerous - paddling is ok though. We had a fantastic stay overall.

This site was fantastic. The pitch we had was level and had plenty of space. We were situated near to the childrens play area which proved to be a bonus with having two boys (7and 3yrs old). The play area was big and clean and had a variety of different equipment. The walks around the area were beautiful as was the nearby beach. The swimming pool was a nice size but the changing rooms could do with an update. We didnt use the onsite entertainment as the children happy on play area so cant comment on that. The surrounding area had loads to do. There are forests a short drive away to go cyling in, (we went to dalbeatie as has easy route for the kids) a wildlife park, farms to visit the animals and we loved the cream of gallowy with its indoor and outdoor play areas and lovely food. We will definatly be going up there again!

We spent 4 nights at Brighouse Bay, and thought it was excellent. The location is beautiful (even with high winds, rain and sea mist on 3 days), and the park seems well run. Considering this was half-term, and the site looked almost full, it was not crowded or noisy, especially late at night.
The toilets could have been maintained a little better, and the hot water was certainly hotter off-peak than during busy times, but the family cubicles were very helpful, and the dishwashing and laundry facilities were good.
The swimming complex needs an overhaul, as half the lockers don't work, and there aren't enough showers, but it was still good to have this facility on a wet day.
The playpark was excellent, the shop was well stocked, and there were plenty of on-site attractions such as mini-golf and bowling.
As for the local attractions, we spent a day at the nearby Cream o' Galloway ice cream factory (definitely worth a visit!), a day walking some of the many paths around the campsite, and a day on one of the nearby beaches. We have a list of other local places to go (Kirkudbright, Threave Castle, Galloway Wildlife Conservation Park etc), so we will definitely be going back.

We visited Brighouse Bay over Easter and on approach we thought the site looked very nice. On arriving at our pitch it took us well over an hour to level up the caravan and even then found it impossible to level up properly, the pitch was so uneven that one wheel of the caravan was off the floor! Our friends arrived shortly after us and had an even harder time as their pitch was even worse. The other negative regarding the site were the freezing cold toilets and showers. There was no heating in the shower block, this made things very unpleasant especially when trying to shower children, it was March and the weather was cold and very windy.
We explored the surrounding area and found NOTHING to do at all, it was a 30 mile round trip to the local Tesco (the highlight of the holiday).
On a more positive note, Brighouse Bay was pleasant with an excellent shop and club house, the pool and childrens facilities were also very good. The coastal footpath would have been very nice if the weather had been nice, lovely views from the rocks.
If you are happy to stay on site for the duration of your holiday then Brighouse Bay is fine. It's not one we will return to in a hurry!
