Stayed for 5 nights over Easter Holidays in our Folding Camper. I do not want to this review to make out that I didn't enjoy my stay as I did but I just felt that certain things could have been a lot better. We were allocated a hardstanding pitch which was fairly level however the grass area for the awning had a large bump in the middle, just thankful I didn't take mine but this could be removed fairly easily. Having a walk round the Touring area I saw many large Hobbie caravans with what looked like permanent fixtures, Transit vans etc. What's that about. Site has a good shop, good park for the kids. There are many showers both in ladies/gents or unisex cubicles. 1st morning my wife went for a shower and then by time I got there, no hot water, people showering in cold water, not I, so I returned later and this was still the case? Maybe this was because the site was very busy but a pain still the same. The shower cubicles were clean, however they filled up round your feet and you had to come out before they overspilled to the drying area.
The clubhouse was ok, pool looked a little dated, didn't use it so cant comment any further. Didn't eat in either the bistro or main dining area however brother-in-law said a Cheeseburger and chips for his little boy set him back £7.50, little pricey in my opinion.
Resident DJ, Scally was good, great with the kids, beer fridge didn't work full length of our stay? Broadband still not working and virtually no mobile (3) connection anywhere on site. As I said at the start I enjoyed my stay but for a site that is obviously taking in a lot of revenue I feel they are not re-investing what they should to keep things tip top. A last note is this site is about 8 miles inland from the main road and going anywhere during the day is a pain as the road in is narrow with passing places.

This park was well maintained and clean, staff were very helpful. The only problem was the uphill walk to the clubhouse of about a half mile. We will be returning later in the year. The down side was the shop on site was a bit small and expensive. The nearest town of Kirkcubright was about six miles away. The fishing and golf was good although the weather was wet we still had a lovely time sight seeing the area from Creetown to castle Douglas. We also went to Creetown market which is held every second Sunday.

Have just had a lovely week at this site. It is in a great location and nicely sheltered with well laid out trees etc.
I thought it was rather expensive, especially the last couple of days in Aug at full price with extra charges for everything including internet, swimming pool and canoe launching it came to about £33/nt for the 4 of us with caravan and elec, but the facilities were generally good and staff were lovely, very understanding and helpful.
The swimming pool was £7 per family, internet £10/wk but did not work in the eves and there should have been canoe lauching fees which they did not charge us (and could not check on).
The playground was central and seemed to be very popular with my daughter aged 8 and there were enough kids on site to be fun without the site being crowded. The launching ramp on site we did not use as the bay is not very interesting. We found a much better spot 10 mins along the coast at Carrick where the road runs by the sea and it is possible to walk out to one of the isles of fleet at low tide.
The showers were the cleanest and warmest I have ever found on a campsite (no charges for these)mind you I did not see any other families using them this week. However the swimming pool had only one shower and the backs of the doors were mildewed. Also the jacuzzi said no U16 because of H&S legislation which is not a real reason.
We ate one night in the club house, best pizza I have had in a while, one between two with chips was plenty - Good chef and large portions, reasonable prices.
This firm own three other local sites which we might try next time, only as some of them are less distance from the main road for a quick weekend.
The area has loads to do, castles, red kites, beaches, interesting craft shops, we spent the whole week within 10 miles of the campsite and visited 3 castles and 1 abbey, canoed round 3 islands, visited 4 beaches (two nice two rocky) walked to two pre-historic burrial cairns and saw some red kites. Not bad for 5 days!
Final word has to be for the staff, they were simply lovely, especially worth a mention when they can still be like that at the end of the season!

I liked this site and would revisit again. Aug 2011 we arrived and checked in, paid just under 100 quid for 3 nights, contemplated not paying it and going to a travel lodge but went with it and drove to my pitch, which was easy to find.
After pitching we went to the leisure centre, there are no clear entrances unless you know the place, no signs, so you just wander into any door that's open and hope you find a pool or a bar.
Once in we ordered food, which was brought to us as a takeaway because we had ordered from the wrong side, no problem with that as the staff are polite, and the chips were good. The site wasn't overfull for August.
On site there was bits and bobs to do, the usual fishing method of chucking sweetcorn on a hook at fish in fish ponds, some lawn bowling, some expensive golf, a huge playpark for the kids, and a very good pool complex, that you pay for.
Out and about Kircudbright is very nice, we really enjoyed the local pie shop, massive sausage rolls, steak and blackpudding pies.
If you are into watersports then check the daily tide, go when the tide is in during daylight hours, otherwise its out for the majority of the time.
I would stay at this site again.

This is the second time we have been to Brighouse Bay and we were not disappointed. We had a pitch in a good area with easy access to the facilities.
The facilities were clean enough for the busy site it is and they were cleaned regularly and there was a warden around doing repairs as and when was needed.
The playground is fantastic and the kids loved playing on it.
The swimming pool was brilliant and we found the best time to go was around tea time. Jacuzzi was lovely and warm, the changing area could have been kept a bit cleaner, but this could have been because it had been so busy during the day.
The beer was a bit expensive and we bought the kids a meal after swimming, nothing much just chips but they had run out of tomato ketchup, none anywhere, which we did think was a bit odd for a restaurant in peak season.
The access to the beach is fab and its lovely to be on the bay, we used dhoon bay beach which had a little more to offer.
The staff at reception were very helpful, we needed the doctor for our little one and they were informative and let us use the recption phone.
We will definitely be going back next year.

We hadn't been to Brighouse for at least five years and had been singing its praises to everyone but we were disappointed this time. Although the camping and touring facilities are still good the surrounding areas for seasonal and static caravans look like a shanty town.
The vans seem to have a collection of rubbish (I couldn't call it anything else) outside and it makes the site look very untidy. Further up the site it gets worse in the static areas. Some of them had broken surroundings around the van, with the obligatory rubbish and looked very dirty.
There is also a large area full of Hobbies and it would appear people have set up home there, growing veg/flowers etc but it looks terrible and detracts from the other lovely touring/camping areas.
I know this is an all year round site and it would appear people have made it their home but Gillespies get your act together and make it more appealing/tidy. I've marked down the overall rating because of this.
I can say the touring area was clean and also the facilities were cleaned regularly and there is a large selection of shower cubicles etc. The shop also does very good rolls for your bacon butties.

I have visited this site twice now and really had a great time. Staff were very helpful and friendly. The park itself is clean and I like the fact that it is very dog friendly.
Toilets and showers were fine. The toilet block beside the playpark I preferred. Clean and shower was warm and plenty hot water. The other toilet block I wasn't so keen as it was unisex.
The club at night was fine. Usual caravan park entertainment. Geared towards kids (I don't have kids). I found drinks cheap.
No signal from my mobile phone all the time that I was there.
Surrounding walks brilliant. Close to the beach.
I had a great time.

Just returned from a fantastic week at Brighouse Bay Caravan Park. This was our first family camping trip. Arrived to a friendly, helpful and polite staff member at reception. Provided us with a map of the park, and informed us of a selection of pitches which we could choose from as the park was quite quiet. They were nice enough to say that if we required any further assistance/info due to us being newby campers, we were just to let them know.
Park was gorgeous. Very clean, no litter, no dog fowling etc. Beautifully landscaped with lovely ponds/boating lake etc.
We decided to pitch in a nice quiet area just up from the play park. Each pitch had a nice picnic bench so we could use this to eat outside our tent when the weather was good.
Toilets and showers were fine really. A little bit grubby at times, but I think this is due to people not supervising their kids and not ensuring that toilets were bring flushed etc. I did see cleaners in the toilets and showers on a few occasions and they seemed to be doing a good enough job. We just checked in the cubicles and then decided which one was the nicest and used that. There is an older toilet/shower block near the reception - this includes a unisex ensuite block. Very handy when you have kids as both parents can be there to help out. Hairdryers available in this block at a cost of either 20p or 50p (some machines took 50p and some took 20p, unsure why the difference. A quick tip - ensure that the hairdryer is switched off at the buttons prior to inserting your money as if it's not, the money does not get registered, and the hairdryer wont work. I was caught out the first couple of times and then realised that I had to ensure the hairdryer was switched off beforehand)
There is a newer toilet/shower block up near the play park. Very nice and still clean enough. There is also a bathroom which had a corner bath in it, but we did not use this so cant review this.
Laundry available and this looked good, but again we did not use this.
Play Park is fab! My daughter loved this and spent many hours running around and having fun on the flying fox and slides etc.
Park shop was well stocked and reasonably priced.
Club at night was okay, but very pricey for drinks at the bar, and entertainment (kids disco) was poor. Geared up for older kids with the music and not so good for the younger kids. Also, the DJ had a habit of giving away balloons and sweets to one or two kids at a time and left the others upset and let down. Not very fair at all and this caused a few problems for parents to deal with.
Hardly any mobile phone signal available on the park, but if you stand up beside the large rock outside the leisure club you might get a signal there.
Swimming Pool was good and enjoyed by all, but should have been warmer, especially for the younger kids.
Lots of nice walks around the surrounding area, and pony trekking available if you want to do this.
Noise at night was a bit much at times. Background noise coming from the Play Park late at night, but this did not put us off from returning to this park.
All in all, we had a fantastic time and would return in future.

Very clean site the facilities were of a good standard. We paid £39.40 for the 2 nights. There seemed plenty of room for children and lots for them to do. There was a play area/boating lake/mini golf. There is also a good looking swimming pool and a full size golf course ( which we thought overly expensive £29) There are plenty of walks and you can get to the beach so you don't need to spend money. The clothes washing facilities were costly but good there is also a well stocked shop. We did not eat at the club house so cannot comment on this part.

Just stayed one night here, we wanted to try out a big site, we thought big sites meant very crowded but not here,
The site was clean and the facilities were good and best of all the pitches well spaced to give you plenty of your own space,
Fantastic walk around the headland, and a great evening spent bat watching around one of the wildlife ponds.
