Just back from after spending 3 wonderful days at this campsite. Spent many hours walking along the trails and the beach with the dog (who obviously thought this was heaven) Glad that I could get no reception on my mobile phone as this gave way for a most relaxing time.
Reception staff very helpful and the wee shop was well stocked and the prices were a lot better than I had expected.
Toilet blocks were immaculate and there was always hot water for the showers (though had to let it run for a minute or two first)
Leisure club served first class food and the drink prices were not to over the top.
Only downside is that during the dark evenings there does not seem to be a lot of lights guiding you along the roads and paths (remember a torch).
Will definitely be back again.

We spent a great week at this campsite. We booked the site as a base to explore this part of Scotland. However, the facilities were good on site and in the surrounding area, meaning a day at the campsite was pleasantly spent.
The campsite was clean, the showers and toilet blocks were kept to a very good standard. The tent area was flat and great for tents.
The only minor problem we had was the lack of lighting around the park. A few more lights would have been better for making our way to and from the toilet blocks at night.
I would definitely visit this campsite again.

Nice large site with plenty of facilities, one of the best we have visited. Easy access to the nearby bay. Only critisicm is that we where near to the resident caravans and where awoken every morning by them going to work! Also there is not a great deal to visit in the area if you have kids to entertain.

Great site, just about the best we've stayed on. Great facilities. Lovely walks, loads of stuff to interest the kids. Although a big site, we never had the feeling of being crowded. Toilets & showers were always pristine, entertainment, food, drink, swimming pool & even golf all available on site. All set in beautiful countryside in a lovely area too. This site will be hard to beat, & we're definitely going back.

We were expecting a lot from this site from the info on their website and we were not disappointed, it is a fantastic site. Pros: Toilets/Showers plentiful and clean, wife and daughter particularly liked the all in one WC, basin and shower cubicles. Great walks to be found around the site, shop well stocked with all the basics, staff friendly and helpful. Nice beach within 5 minutes walk, swimming pool and bar, quad bikes (lads and dads thing) and golf. Cons: Approx 5 miles from Kirkcudbright, middle of nowhere. Swimming pool is small and does tend to get busy as does the bar for food and drink. One more downer is that they did let a group of young adults (from Glasgow judging by the footy shirts) who proceeded to consume alcohol and make a lot noise till the early hours, not nice or those camping next to them with young children. Overall will return to the area but will try their other site Seaward, which is much closer to Kirkcudbright for the shops, bars etc.

What a excellent site. I would most defiantly go back to this site and would recommend this site to anyone. It is a very large site with great facility's the toilets are great with everything all in one cubicle. The bar and the swimming pool is great for all the family. The staff are all very friendly and happy to help. There is a lovely 5 Min's walk down to the small beach. We will be going back to this site I'm sure for many years to come. Enjoy and keep up the great work people at Brighouse Bay! Thanks

We had a 4 night stay at this site in July and really enjoyed it. This is a lovely site, very well organised and really clean. The toilet and shower facilities were always clean, they also have a family bathroom you can hire out free of charge which was really useful for our 18month old daughter. The pool is good for the kids and there a short walks through the woods to the beach where there are loads of rock pools etc to play in. There are play areas on site for both toddlers and older kids so both my children were happy. Luckily for us we had lovely sunny weather. The shop is also well stocked and there are loads of activities you can choose from such as quad biking, pony trekking and bike hire although we did not try them. This was our first visit to this site and we will definitely return next year.

Just had a week there and found it to be a lovely site with lots to do for the kids and adults alike. Went horse riding, quad biking, archery, golf, putting and beach combing. BBQ as well on the Sunday at the club.
Only one gripe and it is a very big one which may lead us to never coming back again and that was the noise at night. As the pitches a very large and unorganised it wasnt uncommon for families pitching together and having three cars, one caravan and two tents all on the same pitch. Not so much of a problem through the day but some people just don't know when to call it a night. 11pm is late enough to be sat outside in a gazebo with candles and electric lights on but for it to go later and later as the week progresses is not on! Our neighbours were still out at 1.00am making noise. Spoiled our week really and we went home a day early as we were getting more tired as the week went on.
Also cars are driving around the site until 1.00am too! I think it is campers going to the toilet blocks as it is quite a walk. Some sites have a no car policy after 10.pm or 11pm and they have to park in the car park, not their pitch. This site could definitely do with a similar policy.

Just had a long weekend at Brighouse (my second visit). Great site and excellent value for money. All facilities and surrounding areas are very good. Shop, pool, golf & leisure club all great and buggy hire when caddying for your boy golfer is a must at £14. The guy at the golf club was brilliant. Only two points I would recommend improvement. Like a previous reviewer comments it would seem that certain people think smoking in the toilets is acceptable these days. That should be monitored. There are ways of preventing that. More importantly, I was pitched at a crossroad on the way up to the leisure club and the speed of the vehicles was scary. I have two young children and must admit to being a bit nervous for them. Fair play to the site, the speed signage is there so I don't know how they police that.more regular bumps maybe. Anyway, I will return that said, as a family we love it.

It depends on what you're looking for whether this site is for you or not. It was our first time away with the family in our new caravan and was our main holiday of the year. We decided to stay on this site because of the vast range of facilities on offer although I did think the pitch fee was a bit steep I thought some of the facilities (like the pool) would be discounted for our use. They weren't and as a result, it is pretty expensive in my view.
Our pitch was barely long enough for our caravan. The rain teemed for the entire week - it was really, really wet and as a result, a stream run through our awning all week. My toddler thought this was great and wanted to play in the puddles all this time!
Overall, I found the site too busy, too many cars and hard to keep an eye on your children as there were so many others. The site was nicely landscaped but this included unfenced ponds - not ideal for a toddler and 3 year old.
I'm sure this site is excellent for many people but for us, it just made us realise that facilities are far less important than a quiet site where it is easier to keep an eye on the children. We are now CL sites all the way!
