Disappointing. Camp Site advertises on website as open all year with cafe, bistro, bar, swimming pool etc. Which is just what we wanted. Upon arrival at 2. 00pm On Sunday we were advised that all the facilities close at 3. 00pm on Sunday until Thursday. I pointed out this is not what it said on the website and was advised that they have no control over the website. So we stayed one night instead of 3. The site was clean tidy and well looked after. There are not many sites open at this time of year so it was a disappointment.

This site is quite large, reception and shop at one end and the clubhouse and bar at the other end.
Plenty of space for tents of all sizes scattered across various areas of the park, pitches are really well laid out as well.
No lighting on the site which means you need a torch for visits to the toilets. Plus side of no lights means you get a brilliant dark sky at night.
Only downside was the 10. 30pm curfew needed to be adhered to a lot more.
Noisy neighbours can be ignored for a while but when the foul language starts its not much fun. Thank you to the North East of England crowd for their expletive ridden conversations at night, you really do your neck of the woods proud.
Apart from this it really is a great site if you want to get away from it all and enjoy the surrounding area.

We would certainly visit here again.
Good points: friendly, helpful staff. Let me charge my phone in reception in return for a donation to charity. Sheltered hedges dividing and sheltering tent pitches in the one area of two we stayed in. Playarea very good. Showers and toilet blocks look a bit tired but the shower was gloriously hot and strong flow, no coins needed. Loved the cubicles of shower, loo and sink but bet there is a long wait when it's busy. Lots of wildlife on site. Good exploring paths about the place. Beach literally next door to the site and it has a clean loo! Great Rock pools for the children and water is shallow in sea for a good way out. Great pony trek on the beach, horse responsive and well mannered. Would recommend chocolate factory nearby for children. Play area and chocolate making workshop fantastic value for money. Mossyard Beach down the a road is secluded and beautiful, it was like being abroad when the sun shone! Loo there also and two pound car park charge.
Less good:
Toilets a good way from tent pitches, if we went again we would pay for an electric pitch just to be nearer. Would be good if they could build a toilet hut like they have next to the beach.
Site is huge and recommended bikes or scooters to get about. It's quite a long way from a settlement for food, Kirkcudbright has a chippy that's tasty and a co op to stock up on food. Didn't use leisure centre or site restaurant so cannot comment on that.
Overall, I would recommend this site during term time when we went as being peaceful and ideally located if your children are of an age to be happy digging on the beach for hours.

Firstly the positives this is a massive site (which doesn't feel that cramped even at full capacity until you want to use the facilities that is) it is nicely laid out with ponds, crazy golf, club house and adventure playground) in a beautiful rugged area of Scotland. Lots to do for the kids Lagan Leisure, Cream of Galloway, Cocoa Bean factory are all close by free family activities include the coastal walk around the site which has some stunning views, plenty of little villages to explore nearby including a potter around Kirkcudbright, Kippford, Gatehouse (which has a yummy cafe Galloway lodge) and plenty of beaches Mossyard, Brighouse Bay beach, Borgue, Rockcliffe, Kippford etc etc etc.
The site is massive and in my opinion it is better suited to families with older children as there is a decent sized play area which can get quite rowdy with some older rougher kids dominating it. Quite a few large parties here. Many kids are left to their own devices for quite some time here (whilst some parents were the worse for wear).
The club house is fine for a drink and the food is edible but nothing special (a smaller play area here more geared for the littler ones).
Because the site is so big if your camping at busy times you can find yourself with quite a long walk to get the facilities which isn't too good if you have a long walk for a wee and then have to queue. The shower/ toilet/ sink facilities at one block have both been changed to Unisex (and both have urinals in), the cubicles are mixed up some just have a sink in, some just have a shower and some just have a toilet in, some men left the toilet cubicles without washing their hands and some were having a wee in the cubicles in full view with the doors open. So this didn't really work. Long queues formed for the facilities at peak times. The shower/ sink/ toilets were very shabby and badly needs an overhaul together with regularly cleaning quite often two or three toilets had no toilet roll toilet paper on the floors and empty shampoo bottles accumulating. We were there three days and never saw a cleaner once during our stay.

This is a beautiful site, the staff are lovely and friendly. The shower blocks/toilets were immaculate. The site is huge and there's plenty to do. The swimming pool, sauna and steam room are fantastic! The food in the cafe is lovely and very reasonably priced. There's a lovely play area for the children. My daughter was particularly taken by the horse riding, which I can't recommend highly enough, the lady taking the lessons was lovely. All in all I can't speak highly enough of this site and can't wait to come back!

Very enjoyable visit. This is a very big site but seems to manage to cater for all tastes. We do not normally do big family sites as we like a bit of peace and quiet but despite the size and a bank holiday this site did not disappoint. Access is excellent, no issues even for the biggest of units. All the roads were of excellent standard, mainly tarmac. Reception were pleasant and efficient. Washrooms were fine and regularly cleaned, they were never too busy even over the BH when the site was packed. Did not use the shop, bar, golf, or pool so can not comment but looked OK. The key is to specify your location, the center of the site by the play area and main washroom is very noisy and lively with a lot of family tents. The areas by the riding school and out towards the statics is far quieter but to be honest the noise was not an issue after late evening and site behavior was excellent even over the Bh when it was rammed and there were a number of large groups.
The location of this site is stunning, the beach is fantastic, the walks from the site were superb and the woods are superb for dog walking. The local area is wonderful, loads of beaches, small towns, hills and lochs. No traffic, free parking, welcoming pubs, good food in just about every town. Happy to recommend the Borgue hotel for food, and best beach is Mossyard, superb.
A few negatives. The wifi was terrible (even when paid for), there is no phone signal, the fishing lakes are poor.
In general a great site, won't suit everybody, could do with a bit of TLC in some areas but more than makes up for this with location.

Just back from a lovely weekend at Brighouse Bay.
Lots to do on the site, nice walks to the beach/bay, through the woods and around the site itself.
Toilet/shower block was clean and water in the showers was nice and warm.
There is a large playpark which our young son enjoyed as well as the swimming pool and games room at the clubhouse.
We had lunch and evening meal at the clubhouse and the food although basic was very good and with good sized portions.
Onsite bar was also good to have.
There is an adequately stocked on site shop too, although Kirkcudbright is only a short drive away for other shopping items.
We had a large group of friends all staying on site and it was great to sit out on the ample grassed areas all together. Having said this the 22:30 noise curfew which is strictly enforced I feel is a little early, but each to their own and it didn't really ruin what was a great short break.
There are a few small fishing ponds but I'm not sure there are any fish large enough to take even my smallest of hooks, i'll have to try another pond on our next visit.
On site Wi-Fi is pretty poor but better than nothing but it is charged for, which I wouldn't mind if the quality was at least good enough to upload a photo to facebook.
We will definitely return again though.

We have had many visits here as a family over the last few years and love coming back. Its a big site if you want it to be, and a smaller one too it all depends what you're looking for. The statics are in a separate area to the tourers and some pods have been installed too. We've always found it family friendly and our young kids love the freedom of cycling about exploring the woods and the playpark. The pitches are well spaced out (unless you choose the grass ones which you share with tents) the fully serviced pitches are best and cost a minimal amount more than standard. Toilets/showers are fine too but the ones up at the play park are best. We don't use the Clubhouse other than for the occasional swim, so can't comment on that. The shop is well stocked and reasonably priced with fresh rolls daily. There is loads to do nearby with beautiful Kirkcudbright a short drive away, Castle Douglas a little further and endless other gems. Ok so there is no mobile signal, but to us that's a great thing. You can really switch off. Staff are always pleasant and accommodating and I would not hesitate in recommending this site to anyone. Only thing missing? A mobile fish and chip van!

Visited what used to be a lovely 5 star site, having been a regular when my kids were growing up. Very disappointed. Touring pitches crammed together with little room when they used to offer space. In fact area around pitches 18y onwards looked like a car park. Pitches gravel with little grass surround- very poor condition- lots of mud, little grass! At his park used to be famed for its plush surrounding and grounds- sadly not now. Clearly obvious that policy has turned to quantity over quality. Toilets and showers fine, but unchanged in 10 years. Park now has hundreds of statics, cabins etc all seeming to bring in the pounds over the quality of experience. Park area extremely noisy, even though we were parked well away from the area. A pitches sodden and muddy with little grass next to had standing-despite little ran. Shop ran out of bread by lunchtime and little in the way of supplies at all. No wifi, despite offering to charge you £17 a week! no phone signal. Pay phone at reception out of order- sign saying use payphone at club. Payphone at club also out or order! not really good enough for a 'premier'park. Shame on you Gillespie leisure. Quality should count and its quit clear that is no longer the case! Very saddened by visit and sadly what I can not evidence is a sadly neglected former fantastic park. I had recommended this park to numerous families through the years, but no longer.

We would normally stay at another park in Kirkcudbright but as it was full we decided to stay at Brighouse Bay. Although it was a lovely big park, it was too big for us. We prefer smaller parks. A few issues were that there was no mobile phone coverage. The toilets/showers were unisex which did not appeal to us at all. We decided to use the swimming pool on the morning after arrival and once in the pool realised that there was what looked like a greasy layer on the top of the swimming pool. It really looked like it needed a good clean out. Don;t think we would go back to this particular park. There was a path that took you to the beach but unfortunately when you got to the end of the path, it was just too rocky. We had our dogs with us and was quite disappointed to find this.
