We decided to stay on this site for a quick 1-2 night break and chose it because of its proximity to Rutland Water and because they didn’t have a minimum two night booking policy at weekends. We were very dubious about what we would find because of the numerous poor reviews. We had intended to arrive on the Friday evening as the last check-in was 9pm but in the end we didn’t set off till Saturday morning. However I advised the site on Friday evening and they were happy to let us set up camp from 8:30am so we could get a full days cycling in.
The site is laid out as three fields, one predominantly with touring caravans and the other two for tents. Pitches are marked although the grass was a bit on the long side. They have obviously spent a lot of money on the cafe and farm shop, with the cafe serving breakfast and lunch; the farm shop stocking the basics plus some deli type items - free range eggs available, the chickens roam the site.
Regarding the toilet / showering facilities. If you like your toilet blocks centrally heated, with piped music and somewhere to plug in your straightening irons - this is not the site for you. The toilet / shower blocks are basic, made of breeze blocks with corrugated plastic roofs. Yes, they are drafty and have spiders, but this is camping! The toilets were clean and flushed whilst the showers were operated by a 50p meter box (located outside the cubicle) - the water was hot and 50p gave the average person ample time to shower. There are three open air washing up sinks, with an additional three under construction. We never had to wait for a shower / toilet but if all 250 pitches on the site were full, the facilities would probably not be adequate.
The Kings Arms pub in Wing is within walking distance and serves food although at £18 for a main course, its more for a special occasion! We ate at the Horse & Jockey in Manton (approx 1.5miles away) which is cyclist friendly, very welcoming and does a great steak; its also a great freewheel home on the bikes followed by a bit of an push uphill via the overgrown bridleway!
We would definitely go back but only for a weekend break however I would want more up to date toilet / showering facilities for a longer stay. The main advantage of the site is its proximity to Rutland Water.

I love this site! We stayed here several times in 2009 and my feelings about this site have been the same regardless of when we camped here.
The tent field is sort of triangle shaped & tents camp all round the outside. If possible it is a good idea to request a pitch away from the road side but to be honest the road is not that busy anyway. This field does not have the electric hook up's on, I think this is with the caravans.
The toilets, washing up area and shower are a few minutes walk away behind Wing Hall house but my son enjoyed cycling round so it was an adventure each time we went to the toilet! Showers cost 50p a time. I found myself spending around £1 - £2 for a shower but only because I had two toddlers to wash as well. There are no disabled / family shower facilities but we managed fine.
The noise policies are strictly adhered to although to be honest I never saw anyone from the campsite having to deal with noise problems as everyone respected this.
The only downside is that we had to drive to Rutland Water for our cycling, it's just a shame it isn't a bit nearer to the reservoir.
The chickens and owls calling are all part of the rustic feel this site offers. My husband even heard a hedgehog snorting past our tent one night!
I look forward to my long weekend breaks here for happy family camping, lots of lovely cycling at Rutland and a quiet evening beer in one of the local village pubs.

Stayed here overnight upon introducing my 13 year old step-son to the joys of backpacking & camping!
My wife dropped us off at Greetham (to the north of Rutland Water). We walked south through Exton & met up with Rutland Water at Whitwell. We then walked around the dam end of the lake hoping to catch site of an Osprey, but no such luck!
We left Rutland Water at Edith Weston, carried on through Lyndon, down across the railway track before the gentle climb into the pretty village of Wing.
We walked round to the tree lined entrance of Wing Hall and up to the reception area within the very nice shop area to book in.
After pitching our tents, which took a while as our plot appeared to have been double booked, we took time to explore the picturesque grounds and admire the faded elegance of the manor house at the centre of the site.
We took a shower (quite a queue) in the dated facilities before wandering into the village & spending a few hours in the beer garden (term used very loosely) of the local pub. A few hours is enough unless you are extremely wealthy! Possibly the most expensive pub I have ever stumbled across!
We then returned to Wing Hall & decided to try out the cafe/bar which was open until 11pm. We sat outside which was very pleasant overlooking the Hall's old formal lawn area. It was great to see the buzz of happy people & children running around with torches enjoying themselves.
We retired to our tents at around 10.30 pm and awoke at 6.30 on Sunday morning. It was a still sunny morning and the grounds looked amazing in the late summer haze. We had our breakfast & were packed & walking on towards Manton by 8.30am, a shame as I would have liked to try out the full English breakfast in the cafe but it didn't open until 9am.
We walked on past the remains of the Medieval village of Martinsthorpe (some stunning scenery here) on past Leigh Lodge, down through Belton-in-Rutland (a beautiful village) where a very kind lady in her front garden filled up our drinks water bottles for us, before ending up at Eyebrook Reservoir where we were collected by my wife.
This camp site, in spite of its faults, reminded me of how camping used to be, with all the fun & excitement.
I will return next year with the whole family for a relaxing long weekend hopefully!

We booked into this site for 2 nights with 3 adults and 4 young children. We had some concern about the facilities having read reviews of the site. However we found everything splendid. Yes, the loos etc were not 5 star hotel standard but perfectly adequate for a camping site!
The site is very easy to find and attractively situated with three fields surrounded by trees giving good shelter. Great country views with red kites etc. One nice feature of the site is the absence of regimented rows of pitches. A splendid old walnut tree gave the children a lot of fun climbing and swinging. An excellent farm shop (and surprisingly an adjacent cafe and evening bar). The site is well situated for Rutland Water and being great weather was very busy. Will go again without hesitation.

Just spent our maiden camping trip at Wing Hall. Took all our shiny new equipment and drove through a monsoon to get there. Managed to pitch during a dry spell. Very steep pitch with electric hookup . Kids managed to toboggan in their sleeping bags in the living area down the hill! Expensive for the facilities on site, tired toilets and showers, there are 2 showers together, and a further 3 showers just near the washing up area, make sure you use the 3 together as the others are dire. Lovely village pub - the Kings Arms, beautiful but pricey meal. Great Farm Shop, lovely friendly chickens who double as waste disposals! they really enjoyed our bread and water offerings.

We visited this site last weekend in a caravan and were dissapointed in what we found.
Driving into the site we had to stop at the end of the drive to check in. We pulled far enough away from the drive so cars could get in and out which then meant we had some interesting manoeuvring to make the turn into the field which wasn't much fun.
Driving into the field we first noticed some rather run down old vans that appeared to be abandoned. The pitch we were given was very small and had a european van on it which would have meant our awning would have been no more than 3 feet from theirs due to our doors on opposite sides.
We asked to change to another pitch and kept within the posts as requested, but if we had put our car next to our van it would have meant our neighbours would have been about 2 feet from our car so we had to leave the car in front of the van. None of the pitches with EHU near us were big enough for a car, van and awning .
The grass on most of the site was well over 6 inches long. I did ask them if this was normal and was told that they had cut the grass the day we arrived. When I told them of the length of the grass I was told that it would not have been cut if there was a van there. We could tell that there had not been anything on our pitch or the one next to it as the grass had not been flattened so I'm not sure what had been cut. Other people we spoke to all moaned about the length of the grass.
Toilets and showers were old, dirty and not enough of them when you look at the number or tents on the site that didn't have their own toilet facilities. Plus 50p a shower when we had paid so much for a crap site was really the last straw. We were going to stay 3 nights but the combination of the whole site made us leave after 2.
Oh and the poor chemical toilet emptying facilities already mentioned in other reviews now has NO water coming out of the tap at all.
On the plus side the site has lovely views and Rutland is a very nice area. Please be aware that they do not accept cards.

Thank you for a lovely weekend. We only stayed for one night but we were allowed to check out at our leisure on the Sunday which extended teh weekend
The shop was brilliant, even freshly caught trout, plus fresh eggs from their hens and home made bread and delicious cakes!
There was a small cafe/restaurant who served lovely adventurous meals at reasonable prices.
5 showers, 6 toilets and a washing up area
Very helpful owners, lent us an electric point when ours was too short!
A lovely quiet night, except next door snoring, but you cant blame the site for that!
Constructive criticism would be that they need more washing up areas, we ended up boiling a kettle and washing up outside our awning, as long queues, but then the site was full up.
We will return!

My husband and our two very young children stayed for one night on two occasions. The staff were very friendly and the shop where you register is well stocked with yummy bread, cakes and all the basics you need plus lots of organicy things.
The newly opened cafe was an absolute hit for proper tea and coffee in china cups, delicious cakes etc. I think they do breakfasts, sarnies and meals too. Cafe has very comfortable inside seating and outdoor seating on the lawn leading from the beautiful main building.
I understand the toilets and showers have been improved for this year which will make it a perfect site, we really enjoyed it. Local pub very nice, although quite posh, pricey food and not many tables for drinkers only but some nice outside tables too. Great location for Rutland.

We were directed to park on plot 4 (having to reverse back up the drive away from the reception)
This plot slopes and is permanently damp being under overhanging trees. The site says it accepts dogs which is true but there is nowhere for them to run unless you take them into a farmers field full of ripening crops.
The toilet block is possibly the worst I have encountered, being cold, dirty and with no hot water.
The showers are no better 50p gets you water but whether you get hot is pot luck - I lost.
A previous review says the portaloo emptying point tap leaks, that is now cured it doesn't work at all. The best thing are the views and surrounding countryside, all of which are nothing to do with this site ! I was very disappointed and would not send anyone here

Lovely location, wonderful setting, but for £18.50 a night one expects facilities to be of a certain standard. Unfortunately the toilets and shower blocks were not, (you even have to pay 50p for privilege of taking a shower). As for the elsan waste disposal point. It should have a health warning on it. The tap next to it, to hose your cassette out after emptying it, had so little water pressure it was useless.
The entrance to the caravan field was deeply rutted as well as being very muddy.
A lot of money has been spent on a new farm shop and cafe which are both excellent, especially the shop, good local produce in stock.
This site could be top class, it has a lot of things going for it, BUT the facilities are in need of modernisation.
