We spent 3 nights at Wing Hall for our second ever camping trip. The location is wonderful; beautiful countryside views in a lovely quiet village, and we cycled with our 2 young children from the campsite to Rutland Water to go along the cycle route - definitely recommended. The staff are very helpful and friendly, the new shop is fab, and the chickens are fun for the children (and of course also provide eggs which guests can buy on an honesty box basis). The staff were very helpful in providing us adjacent pitches for a tent & caravan. Hookups were available.
We would stay again for all these reasons, but the toilet, shower and washing up facilities are poor

Pitches were ok, but basically just a field and set up where you liked, facilities left a lot to be desired. Toilets were sheds in the next field and I refused to shower as they were so disgusting and run down. Beautiful scenery in the area, good pub but expensive for food. Would not return to this camp site - needs a lot of money spending to bring the grounds & facilities upto date.

We visited Wing Hall on May Bank holiday, at very late notice. The location is very good with good views and I would not complain at paying £7-£8 per night as with most Caravan Club CL's with these facilities, but at £28 per night (pitch £5.50 Adult £6.50 x 3 child £3) I would expect a top class site! For my £28 I got a sloping pitch with freshly mown but still very long grass to walk into my caravan, no electric hook up, cold showers at 50p for less than a minute with a coin box outside so you have to get dressed to put more money in. Dirty toilets with no hot water. Chemical disposal point, with no water at all and 240v extension leads all around the site.

This is a lovely site but really needs some attention to reach full potential! We stayed on the hillside field with hookup which were simply extension cables run from one of the boxes (5 of those). The grass was very long and the ground sloping and uneven but the views were fantastic!
There was a toilet block nearby in a poor state but this was closed down for the winter. The toilets in the courtyard were adequate but only one had hot water. The two shower cubicles next to the house were a state but the newer showers were better, although 50p didn't last long and the water pressure was poor. In fact there seemed to be a water pressure problem as most of the taps didn't work, including the chemical disposal point.
However, it was very peaceful, friendly and relaxing and we had a lovely meal in The Kings Arms pub a short walk away in Wing. We found the lakes eventually although they are not obvious!

Potentially a lovely site let down by very poor facilities, toilets & showers need updating + cleaning they are back in 1960s standard its a shame because the setting is super there is a lovely
Village with nice pub/restaurant within walking distance. The site shop is limited but free range eggs are great. The area in general
Takes some beating, Oakham is a very nice place and there are
Plenty of nice villages/ pubs round about.

This is a wonderful site, situated on the top and edge of a hill with good views and plenty of space (at least when we were there). Pitches are numbered. The hillside field is 'no children'.
The owner seemed friendly and pleasantly laid back.
Unfortunately the facilities leave something to be desired. The toilets were pretty much like clean public toilets, but the showers were awful.
There are two showers in cubicles in a pretty poor state of repair and home to frogs and spiders. They are operated by a 50p coin box that is outside in the public courtyard. So you start the shower, get undressed while the clock is running and then realise that the water is freezing cold. After a long time the water warms up, you get about 10 seconds to soap up, and then the shower stops. So there you are - covered in soap, naked trying to decide whether to pad outside in the nude or scrape the soap off on your towel.
Some reviewers mentioned another shower block, we looked but couldn't find it.

I really liked this site. It is VERY quiet, very friendly and had a very relaxed laid back feel which is what I wanted. The facilities are a little basic but seemed adequate and despite it being an August weekend I didn't have to queue. The ground does get quite wet and it was windy when I was there so decent pegs are recommended. Chickens roam around the site (and a couple of geese!) and you can buy free range eggs from the manor house which are delicious.
If I go back to the area, I'd stay there again, especially at £6 for the night (one person)

We came to Wing Hall for Mayday Bank Holiday for our second year running and we won't be going anywhere else in a hurry as we find Wing Hall simply the most charming of camp sites. The atmosphere is very relaxed and happy and everyone we've met there loves this site and keeps coming back for the best 'camping' experience. I'm really saddened to see some negative comments on here as we think this site is just lovely and gives you a 'real' camping experience. The lady that runs Wing Hall is extremely helpful and even went to get us some butter when we'd run out. We are returning to Wing Hall for the Spring Bank Holiday weekend that's coming up and we're really excited to be returning to this site.

Site is in a great setting, a little uneven so take chocs if you are in a van.
Facilities a little limited, 5 unisex showers, but it wasn't too much of a problem, use the newer showers. Water was a little problematic for washing up, slow and cold. Also drinking water fill up tap near to us was erraric, at best.
Facilities were quite clean though.
Local pub is okay but more for eating , apart from Sunday evening , closed at 3pm until Monday evening , this is it's regular time ?
Overall a nice location but the facilities would benefit from an upgrade / maintenance.

The situation of the site is very pleasant. Sadly as it was winter, only half of the units were open, the shower cubicles consisted of a telephone kiosk size area with a shelf and opened straight out to the open air, it was also 50p a shower. The loos were unheated and most of the water taps, including the chemical emptying point, were frozen. You are sited on a field and there are no hardstandings.
There is a very good pub/restaurant within comfortable walking distance.
Even though the site fees were £13.50 per night, I would stay there again, I do have my own onboard facilities.
