Just had a long weekend at this site and it was really lovely. The wardens were very helpful and we were made to feel very welcome.
There are two toilet blocks and two showers - one set of toilets were to the right of the house which hardly anyone went to as they were proper outdoor toilets and needed better lighting. Both blocks of toilets could have done with being de-insected on a daily basis - and not just disinfected!
The showers were ok but you had to get in early to miss the rush.
All in all a really beautiful site that we'll definitely re-visit. 8 out of 10.

A lovely little site, good facilities, 5 minute walk to the pub in the village, I say pub, its more like a restaurant and if you want to eat here then expect to pay a fortune for your food (although it did look good), ok for a pint though. Closest town with shops is uppingham (3 miles). Very handily placed to visit rutland water(5 miles ish)which is lovely. There is a little shed that sells goods on site but not a massive choice, ok for essentials youve forgot. All in all great for a few nights stay.

Visited this site over bank holiday weekend and after reading some of the other reviews was very pleasantly surprised. It's a big well organised site with at least three fields arranged around a large manor house. One field has electrics. There are at least 12 toilets (although a couple of these kept blocking with the high workload - but were quickly sorted and cleaned twice daily). Depending on where you pitch you may have quite a walk to get to these. Only 5 communal showers, so sometimes a queue and only three washing up sinks. Only found one water tap too but that doesn't mean there aren't others. I'm guessing this would be the busiest weekend of the year and most of the time I expect these facilities are entirely adequate. Although it was quite crowded it was not too cramped or noisy. There was also a small ad hoc "shop" set up in a small shed selling milk / bread / bacon etc. The site is reasonably priced and set in a great location, quiet and picturesque. We visited Rockingham Castle and Burghley Park during our stay and lots of cycling, walking and water sport type stuff to do on and around Rutland Water. We thought it was really nice!

Thought I would leave a more recent review as the previous reviews are quite dated. We stayed here for 2 nights over the bank holiday in august 2007. I am a fairly easily pleased person, as long as a place is clean, particularly showers and toilets! Lovely grounds and surroundings on the edge of a village. We were on the 'lawn' opposite the house and it was really lovely and quiet there, though you can't take your car on it. I have to say that the place was as clean as can be considering they were running to full capacity, shower weren't too bad either. They have a new shower/toilet block consisting of 3 showers (50p each) and 6 or so toilets divided into male/female, as well as the 2 original showers and 4 other toilets. These were all basic, clean and people weren't really queuing for any of the facilities. They have 3 washing sinks which are exposed to the elements, so not great if it rains! The lady who runs it is nice enough. She has a reception in the shape of a large shed on site. From here she runs the show and it houses a mini shop which sells bacon, eggs, gas, snacks ect. Not much for the kids to do, as no play area. Kids seemed to ride up and down the drive on their bikes. Very quiet village with nothing other than 1 pub, never visited so can't comment. Visited horse and trumpet in Manton 1.5miles away, lovely food but quite over priced. Rutland water only a couple of miles away and that speaks for itself. Would I holiday there again? yes for sure, its great value and lovely surroundings!

We needed a site close to Rutland Water as we were visiting my dad and his boat. This site was great very peaceful and my son made some new friends. Admittedly the facilities were basic and needed a good clean but we didn't let that bother our stay. The lady who runs the site is very friendly and helpful. There is a pub nearby but it is a little pricey! Overall I would rate this site 7/10 and we hope to visit again in the near future.

This is a lovely site but is let down by the facilities. There is currently building work going on for a new shower block but in the meantime there are only 2 showers. These cost 50p a time and it was hit and miss if you got hot water. The lady that ran the site was helpful and gave my partner 50p for his shower when he asked her where they were, rather than him have to go back to the car for money. I did feel it was expensive - £6 per person per night so £12 for the two of us, considering you had to pay for showers on top of this too. Lovely views though and not too busy whilst we were there. Very handy for Rutland water and near to Oakham where there are restaurant choices for evening meal. Not sure I would recommend it and I would definitely try one of the other sites in the area if I went back.

This site is really lovely. Its has a quaint village feel about it. There is a good pub/restaurant nearby and with a bit of energy you can cycle to Rutland Water. If it were not for the basic showers, washing up facilities and toilets I would definitely go back there. If these were sorted it would be a fantastic place. I skipped the showers all bank holiday weekend!

We run the Caravan and camp site at Wing Hall. We have been reading your reviews and thank you for these, We wanted you to know We have been doing our utmost to improve the site with new showers, more electric points and at the same time to keep our rural charm so that We do not over develop the site. We have finally been granted planning permission for a new shower block and have finally succeeded, We will have four new showers working by the end of July 2007. We have a new toilet block which is closer to the site. We are a rural unspoilt site, so if you are looking for something that is overdeveloped then We suggest that you look for another site in the area. We have a fantastic location, a beautiful setting and look forward to seeing you in the future, If you have any suggestions o improvements to the site please email us as We want to enhance your experience.

My family and I have just returned from this site, and I agree the site is beautiful, unspoilt and in an excellent location, especially for cycling, walking (only one and a half miles from Rutland Water). The lady on site was friendly and helpful. However, for a family, with 2 adults and 3 children £21 a night is a bit steep for the facilities provided, fair enough camping is becoming more expensive, but for that price the facilities were awful. If I am paying £5 a night I do not expect much but for £21 a night I expect a little better. I do not have a problem with waiting for showers or being at one with nature, as my family are hardy campers, but these facilities seemed to be an after thought. May visit the site again, only for weekend, however if you are a first time camper you may be put off camping for a while.

It is such a shame to read the negative replies on this camp site? We have been there 3 years running. The scenery is amazing; the village is perfect and friendly. The site is massive compared to other sites we have been to. The lady who runs the site is always helpful, friendly and would bend over backwards to help out.The simple facts are, this is a untouched campsite costing 5 pounds , not a 5 star hotel. Most sites have become too commercial taking away that “camping feeling“ this site offers a real feel of camping and nature. Who cares if you have to wait for the shower, we are camping and relaxing not rushing or criticizing. As I said it cost 5 pounds a night offering the most amazing, relaxing atmosphere. Perhaps for those who don’t understand the word “camping“ should pay the high rate of 20 pounds a night at other sites or get a hotel, then you get the comforts of home but then again that’s not camping. My family and I look forward to our next stay there and don’t forget to visit the lake, its lovely. P.S Everybody we have met there, have been regulars and I have never heard any bad comments.
