Stayed in a tent at this site with no electric hookup. I can only describe this site as work in progress.
The camping pitch we had on the field for tents I cannot make issue with but I would not have liked to have been pitched on one or two other pitches. Walking round the site there where some very uneven pitches with electric hook ups some within 15 feet of one of the toilet blocks be warned you may be disturbed.
The distance to the toilets and showers was as usual the longest walk for people with the fewest equipment, campers with no electric. New showers block was very nice looking but not used for the weekend same for the new portable cabin style toilet block, this was used. Old toilets and showers on the 50p coin were showing there age.
The real big issue with this site is lack of basic washbasins with hot water in fact there where none unless you count the one toilet in the old block with the small water heater that gave out just warm water.
Be warned a torch is required as site is dark in places. There are no facilities for children such as a play area, some people may see this as an advantage. The road passing the site entrance can be noisy and trains can be heard on the site. Staff on site were helpful
The shop on site was adequately stocked with local produce but was expensive, same as the cafe on site which also was expensive.
The surrounding area is superb for walking and birdwatching with the Nature reserve and visitors centre at Rutland a 5-10 minute drive away.
Cost for a tent with two adults and one child under 14 was £17.50 per night when I stayed.
I do not now what the long term aim is of the site but I suggest they put a toilet with wash basins with HOT water on the edge of the camping field, just two of each would help.

The campsite is very well situated, close to the village of Wing and a nice pub and Rutland water.
It is surrounded by beautiful views.
The staff were all cheerful and friendly.
The Shop and restaurant are very welcome but not cheap. There are a number of supermarkets close by in Oakham. And I was led to believe the local Indian delivers!
Indeed the site was more expensive than much nicer ones I stayed at over Easter.
The facilities, showers, toilets etc are spread around the immediate vicinity of the house.
The toilets were not the best aspect of this campsite. For the weekend I was there there was a bit of a lottery how clean they were, whether they had any paper in them or hand towels. Apart from that I was surprised how many were blocked.
Fortunately for me I had my own facilities in my 'van. However those in tents had to run the gauntlet!

Having just returned from Wing Hall Caravan and Camping site I would highly recommend it to fellow campers. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon, we went into the on site farm shop where we were checked in,and given a map so we could find our allocated a pitch. The staff were extremely helpful, both on the phone prior to our arrival and upon arrival at the site.
Having pitched up our tent we did the usual checking of facilities, the showers and toilets were very clean and well maintained (some looked brand new) however location was a little bit of an issue to us as during the early hours of the morning the toilets were a little further than you would expect, and with limited on site lighting, my partner(female) felt a little edgy.
As well as decent toilets and showering facilities there is an on site cafe which prides itself on local produce, the prices do reflect this however as a one off it is a nice treat.
As mentioned earlier there is an on site farm shop where essentials can be purchased, however I highly recommend you do a thorough shop before visiting unlike we did, as prices are a lot higher than you would pay at your local supermarket and it does begin to add up.
A nice touch to the site were the abundance of chickens freely walking around the site, this created a nice 'farm like' environment and all round pleasant place.
I would definitely return to the site however future notes to self would be:
1. Thorough Shopping Trip Prior To Visit.
2. Try and pick a pitch a little nearer to the welfare facilities.
3. Plan excursions prior to arrival (We travelled out on the Sunday to the village of Uppingham and it was a ghost town)
4. Bring plenty of 50p pieces for the showers
Good points:
1.Family friendly atmosphere
2.Clean facilities
3.Friendly Staff
4.Live music on a Sunday
5.Chickens wandering here there and everywhere

This site just squeezes 4 stars, just missing out on 5, for a few points some of which are being improved upon due to ongoing site upgrades, others which need consideration. None of them spoiled our weekend, and for the price, this site is a gem.
The site has two fields for camping. The first includes both tents and caravans and includes power points. It also features free-range chickens, which we decided to avoid. The other field was dedicated to tents and has no electric hook ups.
On the minus side:
A water tap in the 'tent' field would save relatively long walks with heavy water cans.
Whilst the new showers were very good and clean, the water did run cold at busy times over the May bank holiday weekend. The showers are new for 2011 and the water heating is due for an upgrade in 2012, so this problem should be short-lived. Note the old showers to the rear of he Hall still require a 50p payment in the meter.
Not a problem for me, but if you're used to wet shaving, there was a lack of hot water and a mirror in front of a sink
On the plus side:
Afternoon cream teas were served from the coffee shop on the lawn
An on-site bar and coffee shop
An on-site farm shop, with farm shop prices, but the quality to go with it
5 minute walk to the Kings Arms, Wing
Within a stones throw of Rutland Water
Free wi-fi available in the vicinity of the hall
Well priced campsite and friendly staff
Overall, I would recommend this site to a friend, especially if you're an outdoor type looking to explore Rutland Water and the surrounding countryside. We will be going again

Visited Wing over the May bank holiday. We though £25.00 per night for a small campervan with 2 adults was very expensive with electric extra.
They sited us at the entrance of the site and then tried to place a caravan between ours and another caravan, we would of been able to pass a cup of tea through the window. I did object to having somebody else so close so they put them somewhere else.
Every time a car went up the drive we had a great big cloud of dust sent all over us, the van was covered in dust inside and out. We was unable to sit outside or have the door open due to the dust from the track.
Toilets were dirty and the hot water did not last until mid morning.
Would not encourage anybody to use this site due to the lack of facilities and the cost.
Showers 50p ok

We stayed here for 1 night over bank holiday weekend. Overall we weren't impressed at all!
Very expensive - £27!
Toilets clean but untidy, no loo roll each time I went
Shop is fantastic, lots of really lovely local produce
The site was very busy, not much space between pitches, and a couple of pitches were right next to the bins and gate - very noisy and busy
Its a pretty location but we won't return - mainly due to the price, it really just doesn't seem value for money
The main house is shabby - looks like a lot of run down apartments?

We were first time campers as a family this summer and have visited Wing hall a couple of times this summer good place to start out test out the tents and other items we got.
Great camp site ran by nice people field one and two spot on field three is a pain (chickens).
Cafe cakes are yummy my kids love the place back their again soon. Cattle market at Melton is worth a visit and Rutland water is a good place to spend a few hours.
In the summer best to book before you go as gets busy also try the sausage and eggs from the farm shop really good.

Just returned from a bank holiday break. The little farm shop selling lovely produce was great, so was the little cafe offering wonderful fresh food.
The area is beautiful and the pub in village is amazing, with outstanding food but does get busy so book, the only downside was the site.
For the cost, the toilets were unclean, and had no hot water to wash hands, the showers cold and dirty, the washing up area was outside and was unlit and the camping fields over full, the pitches so small no one could move and the electric was dodgy.
After a member in our parties electric failed for the 3rd time they were told that a £20 fine would be needed to reconnect. There were so many people moaning it was a great shame, as with a little time and effort this could be an amazing site

We visited on the August bank holiday weekend, as part of a group of 8 (no kids), and we were in the field to the north of the main drive. Our pitches were flat and sheltered by trees. I didn't do the booking or the checking in so cannot comment on those.
Positives:
Very reasonable price.
Pretty quiet site, although the no music/quiet after 10pm rules were not observed by some.
Relaxed about exactly where you pitch - we had 4 pitches allocated but bunched our tents together around a gazebo with no problems.
Having the cafe bar and shop on site is handy. Both are decent quality and it was great to find some cosy shelter from the rain one night.
Shop will freeze ice packs.
Negatives:
Showers are poor, particularly with regard to hot water (or lack of), and there are not really enough for the size of site. New showers have been put in within the hall (free; others are 50p coin operated), but they were tepid at best. However, some of our group complained and got money back and someone came over to ensure they got a hot shower.
Poor design of showers, e.G. Only one hook for clothes/towel and no shelf for glasses etc.
Loos, showers and sinks are miles away from some pitches.
Other comments:
Farm shop has some basics (bread, veg, fruit, meat, cheese, alcohol, a few camping bits and also calor gas) but is heavily geared towards local/organic/posh and gifty things - this may or may not be what you want.
Nearest supermarkets are Tesco in Oakham and a Co-op in Uppingham.
The King's Arms in the village is quite upmarket and mostly given over to dining. Horse and Jockey in Manton is a moderate walk (1.5 miles), not overly large, but good food and drink. Both have lots of outside space but if the weather is poor then you might struggle to find space for a group inside.
Oakham looks like a lovely little town but seems to be mostly closed on a Sunday!
Rutland water is the obvious local attraction and is OK - Normanton car park is the nearest and we thought it was the best as it had bike hire, a big open field between the car park and the water, and it had a cafe with inside seating (Whitwell does not). It's also near the landmark Normanton church (museum - £2 to go in - not sure it's worth it).
Bike hire around the lake (17-23 miles) is clearly popular but the bike route is surprisingly unfriendly in places (gates/cattle grids, narrow sections, sharp bends). Would recommend mountain bikes.

We stayed over August Bank Holiday weekend and I think the weather and the number of campers were too much for this site. It was very busy and any rain shower turned the field in which we were camping into a quagmire. It needs a free draining drive around the site. It wasn't a particularly quiet site either, lots of cars driving on and off site throughout the day, so young children were never really safe.
The washing facilities are inadequate - for the hundreds of campers there were two toilets with wash basins each for men and women, four unisex toilets and two toilets in another block. That's it. No basins for washing / shaving / brushing teeth. Older showers cost 50p, newer ones were free but the water was at best tepid. There were often queues for toilets, showers and washing up. It really needs a couple of blocks distributed around the campsite. The loos ans showers were always muddy.
One further gripe: we were rang a week before travelling to ask for our debit card details so that the site could charge us in case we cancelled. We assumed therefore we could pay by card on arrival - we were told though that they would only accept cash or cheque, or charge us to use debit/credit card.
Location is not bad and the farm shop is the best bit. It might be a much better site off season, but it is in real need of some improvements.
