Stayed with a group of friends over the bank holiday weekend. The setting is beautiful and Wing Hall itself makes for a stunning scene upon arrival. The farm shop is well stocked and reasonably priced. The cafe is very quaint and offers all day food although it is a bit pricey.
Pitch sizes are a lot smaller than most sites and the bottom field is on quite an downward undulating slope making most pitches uncomfortable to camp on. I assume they use this more as an overflow field during busy times? Other fields looked more level.
A mix up with our booking when we arrived meant that we were put in the bottom field on very rough, bumpy pitches. After a bit of a defensive 'stand off' with the reception we managed to locate to slightly better pitches.
Toilet block is fairly new looking but didn't seem to be cleaned or checked regularly as soap the soap dispenser was empty upon our arrival and was never re-filled despite us requesting it to be. It was also quite smelly. The smell sadly carried over campsite too. There were no mirrors in the ladies.
Plenty of washing up sinks around the site but hot water was sporadic.
The female free showers were never hot during our stay, no matter what time of day or night we tried and the floors were always very muddy. The 50p showers were hot but very cramped.
Overall we enjoyed our stay but the facilities could be improved and the site pitches bigger for the prices they charge.

Quiet location, near Rutland Water, with two open areas for pitches. Although no small hedges etc to separate the field into smaller areas,
You can pitch where you want as there were minimal pitch markings and it was great to be able to spread out.
Loos, showers, wash facilities all available with a choice of showers. These are basic but functional.
The best part is the on site farm shop and adjoining restaurant. The latter is also open in the evening for food and/or drinks.

Beautifully located remote campsite with stunning unspoilt views across valleys. Lots of space. Animals to engage small children. Very reasonable prices, though wish they would offer a family price as it adds up for a family of four plus. Priced per person rather than pitch.
Lovely little farm shop. Pretty classy authentic cafe bar with prices to match the quality feel. Though can't complain sipping lager on their grass terrace in peace.
Very quiet when we stayed mid week. If busy, unisex showers could get interesting with no locks and space for clothes outside of the cubicles!
Generous pitch time 12-12. Ideal location for exploring Rutland water, a short cycle or walk away.

We love Wing Hall.
It's true the facilities are basic, and the cafe is v expensive, but the atmosphere is wonderful and the kids fell in love with the chickens!
The staff are fab and the fresh locally baked bread available in the shop is amazing for a much cheaper breakfast.
The best thing about the site is it's laid back feeling and the various 'real' places for the kids to go off and play and make dens etc.
I should say it was -2 when we were there, but you can't blame the temperature on the site. We wrapped up and had a wonderful time anyway.
If you're after a luxury site, this is not for you. If you like the basics with a bit of quirkiness thrown in, then you should love it.
Enjoy!

Very peaceful and scenic campsite. Ok sized pitch which was clearly marked out.
The ladies and gents toilet facilities in the portacabin were basic but clean. New showers at the back of the farm shop, which are basic but again ok although sometimes the showers were barely warm. There is as already mentioned a well stocked, not badly priced farm shop which is also the reception area.
Overall the staff are very helpful and friendly. The site would benefit from more signage, on arrival if you have not been before it is not clear where to park or check in or which field your pitch is in.
Pitch numbers could also be displayed more clearly. We did not receive a site map/plan on checking in which would have really helped when trying to find showers, toilets, waste point etc.
Please also note you buy an electric card costing £1, to put into the electric meter at your pitch which lasts around a day and then you go purchase another one from reception etc.
We have never come across this before and was surprised to have do this when we had already paid for a pitch with electric hook up. We did feel overall that the pitch price was expensive when compared to the facilities on site.
There is a lovely pub only a few minutes walk from the campsite in Wing, which served lovely food and is very popular.

Stayed bank holiday weekend. Very busy - they had accepted far too many bookings. Facilities overrun. We were put in an uncut overflow field. There was simply not enough toilets or showers. Won't be going back.
On the plus side the Cafe seemed good and the shop was well stocked. Its very close to Rutland water - certainly within biking distance.
It wasn't too noisy at night either despite being full.

Although this site was a little bit tricky to find, I thought that it was something of a hidden gem!
We'd been a bit put off by some reviews of the facilities, but there is a large 'portable cabin' with toilets and washing up sinks on the 'chicken' field where we were sited. I can imagine that the showers would be busy at peak times, but the answer to that one is to not shower at a peak time! We didn't have to wait, but the showers are unisex and there isn't really space to change inside a cubicle.
On the down side, the pitches were numbered and on the small side. The owners allocate a pitch, however we did request a change as the one we were first given was very small, sloping and very uneven. I can't comment on the other fields, but the grass in the chicken field was generally very uneven.
It was a bit unfortunate that, although we had requested a quiet corner, we had been placed in the midst of a group booking.
Although there wasn't a kids' play area on the site, there were lots on nooks and crannies for kids to make dens and in the village itself, there is a small play area.
I think that we would use this site again, but NOT at a weekend as on the Friday night,
There was rather a lot of noise.

Had a lovely weekend stay at this site at very short notice (rang up at 5 pm to check availability, were pitched and kids in bed by 8. 30 pm!) The campsite has real atmosphere and we were warmly welcomed.
Our pitch was quite near the new toilet block which was kept clean, also near 3 washing up sinks which we were told had been finished that day! There are other facilities near the cafe.
We were given a number to call in case of noise problems but the site was quiet and we slept well. Our children enjoyed climbing the tree in the middle of the field we were in, and made lots of friends - you can't ask for more really.
We enjoyed the stunning views of the local countryside. We had our breakfast in the cafe which was lovely - great full English with jazz playing in the background. There was also live music there on the Saturday evening.
Only small negative was that on Saturday evening there was no hot water at the washing up point but the owners said they were aware of the problem and are working to improve the hot water facilities.

Probably too popular for its own good, based on its location near to Rutland Water this site is good for luxuries - fresh produce in their own shop; on site restaurant and snackbar (breakfast hot rolls, meaning no need to cook anything yourself). But perhaps they could finish the upgrades to showers and hot water supplies.
As others have written there are still a few old 50p slot showers and a new block which is totally impractical, in the wrong position on the site and little other provision of hot water to a sink (let alone near to a mirror)
Site sets out to be friendly, there are chickens for children to play with running wild.
Beware of field 3, when the site is busy, as much of it is on a 45% slope.
Like a few of the notices around the site and others' comments here, sounds like they need to finish getting the basics right then this would really be a good site.

This was a pleasant site, but a bit bustling for us, as we prefer quieter more rustic sites!
The facilities were fine - clean but basic toilet blocks, though quite a walk from the furthest camping field.
Our field ran alongside the road which meant that we could hear traffic, though it was a quiet-ish country road. However if we had been on one of the marked out pitches backing onto the hedge, I think the traffic would have been rather off putting.
Also, the pitches were very close, and if we had had people in the two on either side and one immediately opposite, I think we'd have felt rather hemmed in.
The shop was a rather posh farmers' market style shop - not somewhere to grab some bits and pieces for a cheap supper.
Rutland Water is a short drive away with its good sailing and wonderful bike tracks. But there isn't much else to do locally - we couldn't find any good walks close to the site.
There was nothing really wrong with the site, but we'll not be returning - it felt too much like a holiday park (but with no park for the kids) and less like a camping experience.
