 I stayed here over a Bank holiday weekend. I would highly recommend the site as an easy going, clean, well run camping site. The owners are friendly, helpful, and the price is reasonable at £6pppn.
I would urge those people to support owners of campsites such as this one who value having places where you can still be free to choose your own plot, have a fire on open ground, and enjoy camping the way it should be.

Spent a lovely bank holiday weekend here enjoying the beautiful views from the campsite of the Vale of the White Horse and toasting marshmallows over the campfire. Mrs Seymour was extremely kind and concerned to ensure that we enjoyed our stay and took care that we were in a field where the toddlers we had in tow wouldn't be disturbed by noisy childless campers up late - and that their early noise wouldn't disturb other people! The local area is gorgeous countryside with loads of interesting places to visit. The only down side was that there wasn't enough hot water for all the campers on site, so it was either hot showers at 6am or cold ones at 8am. That said it's a fantastic site and we'll certainly go back.

Just returned from two nights (first May BH weekend) at this site. Wonderful views, good walks and pubs plus Wantage is hardy for Sainsbury & Waitrose. My husband & I stayed here last year and we enjoyed it just as much. I would add that the site seemed a lot lot busier. I know this did feature in the Guardian camping guide & I think this has had quite an effect, as it was busy. Marcella, the formidable owner, told me she had 21 people arrive without booking. I believe she just opens up another field however there are still only two showers for the whole site. We were fine as we showered late afternoon but I can imagine those who are fasidious on showering would suffer (or just have to get over it!)
Every field has a group of very clean & well stocked portaloos so toilets not a problem.
Overall, an excellent location and of course, the opportunity to enjoy your wine in front a campfire is the reason why we'll be returning again & again.

We have just got back from a weekend at this site and in a nutshell, its a lovely place.
This was the first time I have been camping to a site as basic as this (I'm use to holiday parks, staying in comfy static caravans with everything you need either in your home or very close by!) so I found it rather hard adjusting to the more outdoorsy lifestyle. Even so, I still had a nice time and the kids (a 3 and a 9 year old) loved having so much space to run and play in.
We were in Plum field which is a short stroll down the road from the main farm house. Its not a flat field but as it wasn't too busy we had the chance to find a mostly level area to set up. The only facilities in the field are a few porta-loos and a water tap. The loos seemed to be clean (if you don't mind cobwebs) and there are more facilities at the farm house (which we didn't use, so I can't comment in them).
The staff are lovely. Very friendly and helpful. They even drive round the campsite in the evening selling campfire wood and glow sticks. They also sell hand made cream teas on Sundays which are a must!
If you love the peace and quiet of the countryside and want a friendly, pretty site to get away from it all, this site is the one!

Had a fantastic Saturday night at this camp site. Was my first time camping in about 15 years, but I LOVED it - this was the first trip of many!
The camp site is great - really friendly atmosphere with people of all ages.
Being able to have a camp fire was great - I would not now consider going to a camp site where you are not allowed to light a fire. The logs are delivered to your tent door, which makes it really simple.
As it was just the one night we didn't check out the shower facilities, but the three portaloos in the field were more than adequate - never any queues, and they were well ventilated and clean - plenty of loo roll and hand towels.
It's a shame it was just for one night, but we are planning a two night trip in a few weeks' time, and then a longer trip in October if the weather holds out.

Myself and my husband have just come back from a fantastic bank holiday weekend here with friends. The weather was superb and the views amazing! We came here because we knew it was one of the few campsites in the UK which allows camp fires.
The only downside was the facilities as 2 showers on a busy bank holiday weekend weren't quite enough. We had to walk down the road to the farmhouse to get to them BUT there were portaloos in the field which were cleaned out every day. If you'd rather a more back-to-nature style camping where you can pitch your tent anywhere without being allocated a plot, then this is the campsite for you. The camp fire makes for a great evening drinking wine and chatting with friends in very unspoilt countryside.

Stayed for 4 nights in mid-August with 4 young children and reckon this is the "real thing"! All other reviews are pretty much on the button. But to confirm. It's a plain and simple site. It's not got children's playing facilities or a pub or shop on site, or central bar-b-q facilities or anything else that many sites have got.
It is, however, a well run site with the lady in charge taking a real care of the place and the site users. She came round each morning and evening to see how everyone was doing, selling fire wood (how many sites still allow fires!) flapjack and glow sticks (!) a real must for any camping site!
There are a number of fields and they are pretty much just fields. But you get the real camping experience and the views are great. I reckon it's about half a mile to the White Horse. A good walk but I'd recommend taking the roads rather than the pathway which nearly did us in with the small ones!
The toilet and washing facilities are limited, as has been said in previous reviews. However, In the 4 days we there there (and it was petty good weather with a lot of people on site) we didn't have a problem with washing. Showers were good and there was warm water but you had to time it well - usually mid-late afternoon. The toilets were immaculate. Wouldn't find cleaner in your own home. They had put some portable toilets in the fields which helped but towards the end of the week they had started to smell a bit.
So, if you want the real camping experience then this is your place. Our 4 children (all under 9) were totally happy and occupied and loved the fires at night. I would have NO hesitation in returning.

We used this site just for the weekend, unfortunately it coincided with flooding on the local roads. The owner was friendly and we were given a choice of two fields to pitch in - they keep one for people with no children which is a good idea. We chose the field furthest away from the wash block, which was clean but you do have to cross the road. The night time traipse to the loo was a bit grim, as the mud had made the portaloos pretty dirty, but that was to be expected. The owner came round in the evening selling fire wood which is a nice touch, and also came again to tell everyone that the local pub was having a BBQ due to their kitchen being flooded. It's a great walk up to the white horse on the hill, even in the rain. This would have been a glorious place to be in good weather, we shall go again.

This is a nice site with four fields for camping, we were in the one directly under the Chalk Horse. Our site was very exposed, the other sites probably not so. The small site next to Marcella's home has the hookups, toilets and showers. If you want this site book well in advance. The hills with the chalk horse are lovely and we saw several native orchids and had formidable looking Birds of Prey circling overhead throughout the day.
This site, I learnt for Marcella, featured in the 'Guardian' newspapers 'guide to camping' earlier in the year, so this site is probably going to be very popular this season. That said it appears that fields are opened in progression,so as one becomes full the next is opened. We didn't feel cramped in ours, two of the other sites looked a bit cramped for my taste.
Basic facilities as previously said. But Marcella when we booked wished us 'a safe trip there' and again on leaving wished us 'a safe trip home'. She was a very pleasant and industrious lady who came round in the evening selling wood for fires and glow-sticks for the children and in the morning enquiring if we had slept well.
Try the 'pick-your-own' just past Rowstock on the way to Didcott, the nearest campinggaz supplier is in Didcott next sainsbury's signposted 'Didcott Calor'.

6 of us stayed at this site in April - we were the only ones there so had the field and facilities to ourselves so don't know what it would be like when it is busy. Toilets, showers and kitchen area were basic but always clean and the fridge was useful. Had a great weekend with lots of lovely walks in the area. Had a campfire and bought eggs from the farm which was great. And Marcella's cream tea on Sunday was amazing.
