Pros: Great views, nice countryside (White Horse Hill within walking distance), enjoyed having campfires
Cons: Basic facilities
We stayed here as a family group for one night over the August Bank Holiday. It was one of the few places that wasn't full or specifying a minimum 3 night stay. The campsite is a series of fields spread around the bottom of the Ridgeway. It's excellent if you want a peaceful, rustic location with plenty of space for the kids to run around. If we'd stayed longer we might have found the facilities a bit limited.
I'd definitely like to come back here

Upon arrival there was a simple check in and then off to find your own plot. The area in which to camp is vast and I guess for this reason portaloos are the only viable option.
Facilities could be improved considerably (two washing up stations for five fields of campers makes for large ques) but the setting more than compensates for this.
Stunning views and plenty of space - perfect for large groups. Make sure you do the climb up towards the white horse and Uffington castle as the panoramic view is breathtaking.
Overall we had a great time and will be back again.

Two words. Love it!
Been to this site three times now and me, my wife our three kids and dog think its great.
Back to basic, real camping at its best.
We stayed in the field directly under the white horse each time as its so lovely and you have bags of space.
We arrived on Thursday lunchtime and had the whole field to ourselves!
Kids love the campfires (£5 per bag of logs, kindling and paper) delivered to your tent.
No pitches so you can set up where you like.
On weekends they sell pancakes and cream teas by the farm. Yum yum!
There is no kicking you out at 'stupid oclock' on day of departure either, we asked the lovely lady owner when we have to be off site, she replied. 'whenever you like'. Great!
Like I said this is basic camping, so don't expect lavish heated toilet blocks (each field has portaloos, with showers and washing up sinks by the farm)
But this isnt a problem at all when you are sat there on a lovely warm evening, gazing at the beautiful scenery, while your kids slowly work their way through their own body weight in marshmallows on your very own roaring camp fire. Perfect.

Visited the site for my 50th birthday with 5 friends. Had a great reception when arrived and found the owners to be more than helpful. Pitched up on the hill and what a fantastic spot for views. Toilets and showers were very clean and cleaned daily. Showers were always nice and clean and always had hot water, like the wooden rooms with porta showers in them, as you had lots of space and hooks for your clothes. Spent 7 nights here and enjoyed every minute of it. Logs delivered to your tent daily and owners popped around to see if all was ok. Would recommened this site to anyone who wants a nice clean and welcoming site to go camping. Will be back.

Had a lovely weekend at this beautifully located campsite but will not be returning at a busy time. Its popularity and relaxed management have clearly led to its being overrun with large groups of campers. We were in the family field - as a party of 2 families of 4 we were definitely in the minority. Most other groups seemed to comprise twice this, arranged in clusters with innumerable large cars and even larger tents. A group of very small children from the 4 families pitched next to us repeatedly ran amok around us with scant supervision. The facilities are inadequate for the number of campers - 4 fields of campers, each field having half a dozen smelly Portaloos, also have access near the farmhouse (in our case across a road) to 2 washing up stations and 2 flushing loos.
The first night, despite the handout stating quiet time from 10. 30pm, we were kept awake by our neighbouring campers shouting and laughing until 1. 40am when my husband asked them to be quiet. Awake again at 3. 40am with teenagers from a field above us on the hill making a similar racket. The next day we asked if the quiet time could be policed in some way so we could actually get some sleep - after some reference to a policy of mutual respect (!) we were informed that the police would be patrolling at midnight to enforce quiet which we felt was a bit heavy handed. No idea whether they did come or not, as mercifully we had an undisturbed night - presumably our fellow campers were tired by then too.
This all sounds very negative so I will balance it with the positive aspects of the site - it is welcoming, in idyllic and serene countryside. A pretty walk across the fields brings you to the pretty village of Uffington with friendly pub (good food and beer) and interesting church. You can scramble up White Horse Hill to the Ridgeway and enjoy extensive views. And of course (in many ways the big draw for us) you can build fires.
If you are a large and noisy party not too fussed about facilities this is the place for you. If you are seeking bucolic bliss and tranquillity go elsewhere - or avoid peak times

There are good and bad things about a campsite with very few rules. The good are you can have a fire, freedom to pitch where you want and do pretty much what you want. Bad things are that other people can as well!
This is the third time we've stayed here and I don't think we'll return. There is a 'lawless' feel to the site which was unpleasant at times.
We camped in a large field on same side of road as farmhouse - we were told this is the 'quiet field'. There was lots of space and we could walk directly up to the White Horse which was spectacular.
There were six portoloos and two water taps in the huge field, which meant a bit of a walk but that was fine. Bit more difficult to walk for about 10 mins from our far side of field to farmhouse for showers, washing up and rubbish (partly along a road with no pavement). Didn't bother with showers for this reason - didn't want 20 min round trip to find there was a big queue.
Could be a lovely place to stay in a quiet time (if you don't mind walk to facilities).

I'd never been to this campsite before, but a friend found it and a big group of us decided last minute for a getaway over Easter Bank Holiday.
Rocked up about 4pm and pitched up, you can park next to your tent wherever you wish, so its easier. The field had a water tap and 6 portaloos. These were clean when we arrived on Friday but by Monday morning, needed to be cleaned and refreshed but they were still nothing overly awful.
Decided to go for a shower on the saturday, short walk from our plum tree campsite and easy to find. They had clearly read and listened to the reviews and there were 4 hooks on the back of the door. Shower itself wasn't too bad, warm, powerful and what you would want from a shower.
They offered cream tea which was a little overpriced for what it was (3.50 for a scone and a pot of tea p/person or 4.80 should you want 2 scones [1.30 for a scone was a little steep I thought as mine was still gooey on the inside yet dry on the outside])
The farm is working and we had a look at the cows and the chickens, and in the morning you wake to the sound of birds and chickens. Its lovely.
I honestly have no complaints about this campsite, its located near some wonderful scenery, out in the sticks, and wonderful for a little getaway.
Would come here again and recommend it to anybody.

I camped at Britchcombe Farm twice last year and am going again this year.
I love this campsite as it is fairly basic but has everything we need from a campsite - a big field near the old farmhouse where the shower block is, with portaloos in the other fields, and allowing campfires. The views are great and there is plenty of space for the kids to run around.
Our first visit was with several other families over Easter 2011. We had plenty of space to pitch all our tents together, and the campfire was brilliant not just for atmosphere but also because the nights got pretty chilly!
We walked up to the White Horse, and to local pubs for lunch. The area is beautiful and there are several good pubs nearby. A couple of us also indulged in the cream tea on offer at the farmhouse at weekends - yummy.
There are nice touches like the freezer to re-freeze your ice blocks. The loos at the farmhouse were clean but we made do with washing up at our tent rather than walk over to the sinks (there are standpipes for water in each field). The portaloos were ok, they will never be lovely but it saved a long walk to the main block. The showers were busy over the Easter weekend and were a bit tepid by the time we used them.
My second visit was mid-week during the summer holidays and I think there was one other tent in the field with us. Again we had a really relaxing time - we didn't use the shower block this time so can't comment.
Obviously I like this campsite - I'm going back again - and I would recommend it if you like campfires and lovely views. The only reason I haven't rated it 10/10 for child friendliness is the busy road you need to cross to get to the farmhouse which meant I wasn't comfortable letting my kids go over alone.

To make it fair I ll list the negatives first, so I can finish on positive note since I actually like the site.
NEGATIVES: Facilities needed an upgrade - washing up area was pretty rough. , the showers were hot and fairly clean so no worries there, but all the clothes hooks had been snapped off. The portaloos on the fields were a good idea (well, otherwise you 'd have to walk for 15 minutes, for a toilet trip) but also a bit smelly.
The whole feel was a bit too easy going, which would normally be a good thing, but on our first night the group of 20 drunk teenagers singing on top of their voice till 3 am was a bit too much.
To be fair they were evicted the next morning by a fierce old lady in a landowner, but it was a little late then. (to be fair we had been told there would be teenagers in that particular field and we could have chosen another field, but hey, that's how it goes. )
POSITIVES: not bad price (£6 per person), beautiful location, gorgeous views, nice and relaxed, could pitch wherever you wanted (great for groups as you can for ma nice circle of tents), and that all magical ingredient of a camp-fire. They charge a fiver for a massive bag of wood that will last you all night, they even throw in a bit of kindling and newspaper. If you haven't got a bucket they ll loan you one for a deposit of £5. In case you think to yourself you can save a fiver by going into the woods to forage for some wood, forget it, its ancient protected woodland, but come on, what's a fiver? especially if its a group of you.
All in all I 'd say that I loved location, the freedom and easygoingness of the site but I think people do take advantage of that; you can tell by the state they left the loos and by the fire craters left on the grass a few yards from each other - there is no need for that, after all they ask you to make a fire where one has been before.
A little tighter control and a little better care and upgrade of the facilities would make this a dream camp-site.
For now, its nearly a dream campsite
We might go back.

We spent one night here and had a lovely time. The site is basic but clean and friendly with lots of space to run around in, which was a relief after the claustrophobic experiences we had in more expensive sites. The portaloos were clean and well kept and provided another source of excitement for my small daughter who's never seen them before. The children had a fantastic time and having sausages on a real fire provided the perfect last night for our holiday. We will definitely come again if we’re in this area. The cream teas were excellent too. Thank you
