We met up as three families (6 adults, 6 kids - one only 12 weeks old!) and had a fabulous time at this site.
Plenty of room for us to pitch together in the field opposite the farmhouse. This made for easy visits to the showers / washing-up, which were perhaps unexpectedly nice for somewhere so 'rustic'. Portaloos in the field were clean and fresh.
The night-time fires were really special - great doing marshmallows with the kids. Adults enjoyed the walk to the white horse and the pub, kids enjoyed scrambling back down the white horse hill and skulking around in the woods next to the camping field.
Would recommend to all - they run a very tight ship here, despite it looking a bit relaxed and ramshackle, and seem to put some thought into where they pitch visitors. We shared our field with three or four other families but l noticed a large group of 20-somethings way off in another field and we could just hear their music on the wind late at night - it was quite relaxing!

Just arrived back from our first visit to this site and we were pleasantly surprised.
We stayed on one of the fire pit fields and there was plenty of room for everyone. Unfortunately the water pipe was one end of the field and the toilets the other and the showers in the main farm house which was a long walk!
It was lovely not to have to lug bags of firewood as the man delivers each evening along with tinder and will also help to light it, which was fantastic as it was raining.
Toilets were clean and well stocked with loo-roll and there were 6 available so plenty for all.
The views are spectacular and a perfect location for walkers. The fields are well kept and the owners are very friendly and helpful.
It is good for kids, but my only worry would be the road (B4507) which runs right along all the fields. The roads are winding and hard to see the traffic behind the bushes and trees - but it is a reasonably quiet road.
The downside to our visit was firstly the rain, and secondly a thoughtless group who allowed their 3 dogs to run freely around the field.
On the whole though, we had a nice (but wet) weekend on a lovely site and will definitely be returning this year, albeit with more care where we pitch out tent, away from dogs!

Brilliant site, just what we were looking for on this occasion. We were quite a big group and needed a bit of space and even on a busy June w/e there was plenty of it.
Any campsite that positively encourages real fires in such a beautiful environment should be applauded and deserves to do well. Campfires make a world of difference to the outdoor holiday and it is just so good to see so many campers enjoying this, with the smoke wafting across the valley.
The owners are decent people and want to offer a good site. Marcella is keen not to cram people in and she is right. On Sat night she drove round the whole campsite in her landrover to make sure everyone is happy. At 82 years of age she is an inspiration.
About the facilities: I personally don't mind the portaloos, esp as they were good clean ones with basins and taps and plenty of loo roll. But if we were staying for longer I would want a few more showers. It's quite nice to have a nearby toilet / washing block where you can clean your face and brush your teeth, and it is a bit of a trek to the shower block from our field. I never saw the other facilities so can't comment.
Some in our group don't do tents so we hired the static caravan for them. That was perfectly clean and everything worked. A bit dated in decor but that didn't matter. It was good to have the TV for Wimbledon!
A few of us enjoyed the cream teas and the cafe/picnic area was very attractive.
On the whole I think this campsite is the business and we will be back no doubt about that.

We came here with friends and really enjoyed our stay. We stayed at Uffington Woods field and parked next to the hay field. All in all a peaceful location. A bit of a trek to the loos though. No washing up facilities or showers in the field. You have to go to the farmhouse area to get those.
Toilets as mentioned are porataloos with a small handwash basin. They were clean and tidy at the start of the weekend but got a bit grotty on the Sunday. Perhaps they should be cleaned / emptied on the Saturday night. Also some kids needed telling that they weren't play areas! Parents get a grip!
Very close by are the white horse and dragon's hill sites. Superb pub called the White Horse in Uffington. Great food and beer.
Real fires a big attraction. We sat up late watching the flames and yet more drinking.
Helpful owners and reasonable rates.
Would go back but there are many more areas we need to visit!

Just spent a weekend at this site - its fabulous. We were attracted by the possibility of campfires, tales of lovely scenery, and it being reasonably close to London, and we weren't disappointed.
The site is expanding fast. The owners have responded by adding additional space and more portaloos, so it doesn't feel at all busy. There seem to be several fields, each with plenty of portaloos and water taps (don't be put off by the portaloos, these are serviced very regularly and aren't overloaded so they are very clean - this is the only site I have been to where I never needed to use my own loo roll).
At the farm itself is campsite reception where you check in and can also buy eggs, a tea room open on weekend afternoons, a small kitchen with icepack freezing, and several showers. The showers have also recently been expanded, and were clean and efficient.
We camped in Uffington Woods field, overlooked by the Iron age fort and a path leading to the white horse hill. Real sense of ancient civilizations all around you. The view the other way over the Vale of the White Horse is lovely. It's very relaxed here - you are encouraged to find a spot where someone else has had a fire, and camp near that. It would be better if the owners put rocks around the fire pits, as it was hard to find a pit with the grass being long, but I guess it would make mowing difficult. The only drawback to this lovely field is the slope - there are very few flat spots, so if you have a large tent you might want to try and get there early to bag somewhere you can easily pitch. We ended up in the highest point of the site, with the best view and the evening sun, but did end up sliding around all night.
You really feel you are in the country here, we heard pheasants, saw swallows dashing about the field, and even spotted a red kite hovering about in the sky. The walk back to the farm is only a few minutes, along a quiet road lined with elderflowers, when you need a shower or to swap your ice packs. Facilities might be simple, but they focus on the important things - about 8pm a man drives around the field with a landrover full of logs for your fire, you just flag him down and he will sell you logs, lend you a bucket to keep handy as a fire extinguisher, and throw in kindling and paper for free. You will need a bag of logs per night (£5) unless you plan on sitting up very late in which case you might need two bags. It was also very nice that the ice cream van that plies its trade up on white horse hill all day dropped by the site in the evening, on its way home. For other food needs, the general store in Uffington was a bit limited, so our friends reported, but there is a Waitrose in Wantage which is not far away.
When we go again, we will take a bowl for washing up. Normally we walk to the camp kitchen to do it, but that is too far here, so we washed up at our pitch. We were also glad that we had a roomy tent to sit under when the sun was very hot - there is no shade in the field at all so you might want to consider making sure you have a tarp or something like that for a summer trip here. It's also more of a quoits / frisbee field than a football field, unless you manage to monopolise the central flat zone - which not great for kids because that is where the cars tend to come through.
We were there at the same time as several very lively parties - a large group were holding a series of competitions and playing loud music, and at one point did a conga round the site, and another had morris dancers and folk singers. This all went on quite late because there was no bother about curfews. We didn't mind, as we were on the other side of the field so it was 'atmospheric' rather than irritating. If you are likely be bothered by this I believe there is a field aimed at families which may be quieter at night - or just take a good look about, see what's there, and site yourself accordingly. Folksingers in the distance as you drift off to sleep is rather nice, I think - but right next door to your tent would be a completely different matter!

We visited over the Whit Bank Holiday weekend. Weather was glorious, therefore the site was extremely busy and the facilities were not really adequate. However, they were clean, and on another weekend would probably have been OK.
We had chosen the site due to the opportunity to have a campfire, but were disappointed to find that as we'd booked an electric hook up we weren't allowed a fire. The hook ups are in 'The Paddock' which is the field closest to the farm and facilities. Our 2 boys loved camping next to the chickens (we didn't like the cockerel at 4am!), but the field is also directly off the main road via the farm entrance and not gated. Although there weren't many pitches in the field, other campers were driving to the facilities and we weren't able to let our 3 year old and 18 month old run about.
On a weekend afternoon the farm offers cream teas. These are delicious, but The Paddock is used as a car park for the tea room. We found this totally unacceptable, as we camp on small sites to get away from traffic and give the children some space, not restrict them more than they are at home. We packed up and left early
However, if you're camping as a big group and don't need electric it would be a good weekend site. The facilities are small and the road is a drawback, but the area is beautiful and the village pub within walking distance. It just didn't work for us.

Great Site with a Lovely location and friendly owners
Ability to have a camp fire was fantastic and much appreciated by the kids
Lovely walk up to the White Horse and the cream teas were excellent
Mainly tents with definitely no Static Caravans surrounded by picket fences, fairy lights and Sky telly. I'm sure we have all visited sites where tents are made to feel like the much poorer cousin
Not the case with Britchcombe as it was all Tents and everyone was friendly and happy to get on with it
Pub in Uffington ( Fox & Hounds) was well worth a visit ( good food and friendly owners
On the negative side. There wasn't enough toilets and showers to cope with the huge numbers of people and the portoloos in the family field didn't appeared to be emptied over the weekend and were nasty by the Sunday
Apart from that its highly recommended and we will visit again

Paid a visit with several friends over the late May Bank Holiday.
We had an absolutely fab time. The weather I think played an important fact!
The ladies in charge were wonderfully helpful.
Facilities were good, even the portaloos were clean and equipped better then some purpose built ones at other campsites.
Having a campfire was excellent and wood being delivered every evening made it wonderfully easy.
Good walks in the surrounding area with a couple of pubs within walking distance.
Access to the ridgeway gives fantastic views once you've made the climb up the hill!
Definitely recommend.

Stayed here over the first May bank holiday. Lovely surroundings and not far from the village shop. It was very busy and I can only imagine that the facilities would be a lot better under normal circumstances. The shower and toilet block are adequate but we were subjected to the portaloo in our field due to volume of people. Fires are great, although the smell of smoke in your tent (if you are in line of the wind) will stay with you for many more trips! still a very enjoyable weekend and the staff were helpful although run off there feet. I will go back when it is quieter.

This was so much better than we expected. Facilities have clearly grown since other reviews we saw, eg the new showers were a joy - not only ample hot water but separated dry dressing areas with considerable passive heating from their clear pvc roofs; each field had several loos so no queues. It would be helpful if the disposal / rubbish arrangements were a little more apparent.
NB Marcella provided a wonderful welcome and the cream teas are out of this world and alone were worth the journey.
The farm has the usual patches of scrub near the rarely used machinery as well as some semi-natural ancient woodland in the combe [steep valley] above the farm. These habitats provided a stunning variety of bird song - Song thrush and blackbird, robin, wren, great tit, blackcap, dunnock, goldfinch, chaffinch, house sparrow, whitethroat, wood pigeon, collared dove, great spotted woodpecker [and perhaps lesser?] swallow and house martin were all serenading us - as was a tame pheasant and the cockerel. Wonderful!
All the stuff about local features in the site description is absolutely right, just watch for some of the drivers near here - their heavy right feet and poor sense of anticipation gave us more frights than we are used to in Bristol.
It's a great place for a holiday.
