Visited the site in July 2007 with friends. It's in a wonderful location just under the white horse hill which, while being a tough walk, is well worth it for the views. Couldn't seem to get a decent view of the horse though. Maybe it was put there for the gods to see.
As for the campsite itself, there's a choice of around 4 fields so plenty of scope for pitches and plenty of room for big groups to pitch around a fire pit. And what a bonus.to be able to sit round a compfire in the evening.and the firewood is delivered to your tent for just £3.50 a bag. It's a rare treat these days. Perhaps ukcampsite could add a link for campsites that allow fires.
Parents with young kids need to watch out on the road as the campsite is on a bit of a chicane so visibility's not great and on a sunny day, it seems popular with bikers. Any trip to the showers and washing facilities incorporates a walk on the road. Perhaps the owner could put signs up warning drivers to beware of pedestrians.
I only wish I could review some of the people who were staying on the site. Especially the group of blokes with their kids (well done, Fathers for Justice would be proud of you all) who insited on peeing in the ditch in broad daylight when the portaloos seemed to be just as close though their efforts in quitening the campsite down when the younger toddlers needed to sleep were greatly appreciated. It's not like it was any way rowdy.

Mixed feelings about this site.
On the plus side; It is in a lovely area and within short walking distance to the white horse of Uffington and other attractions. The fact that you can have camp fires and the owner comes round to sell your firewood is brilliant. Also the freedom to pitch more or less where you like is good.
On the down side; I can help thinking the site has become a bit too popular for it's own good. The Facilities (two showers and toilets and one washing up sink) just aren't adequate for the number of people using the site, which must be getting close to a hundred.
We stayed this weekend and were forced to go without a shower as the water was stone cold by 8am on both days. We thought we'd try again a bit later when everyone else was out and about for the day but the showers were then locked!
I would recommend the site but only with a warning about the basic facilites.

Stayed here at the weekend and would thoroughly recommend it. We decided not to bother with a hook-up as we wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to have campfires. Marcella was extremely helpful (even tho we turned up very late at night after a long journey). Beautiful setting. Will definitely try to visit again.

We visited this site on what was perhaps the wettest recorded Bank Holiday in history! In spite of this we were blown away by the spectacular scenary and walked through torrential rain to see the famous white horse on the hillside. This site is beautiful, large and has everything you could possibly need including cream teas made by the fabulous Marcella - the owner of the site. This is one of a dying number of sites where it is still possible to have a camp fire, with the added bonus of having the wood delivered direct to your door! Cannot recommend this site highly enough. It was so good we are going back again this weekend - and guess what - it looks set to be a wet one!

We spent a weekend with a group of friends at Britchcombe Farm in June 2007. We stayed in a large field that was quite hilly, but as we were the first in the field we got a nice flat pitch in the middle of the field. The lady who owns the site was very friendly and came around in her landrover every evening to take money, sell logs etc. We didn't make a huge amount of use of the showers etc - it didn't seem particularly necessary for the short period of time that we were there, but we were all very impressed with the loos - the field had about three portaloos in one corner, but these were kept really clean and well stocked with loo roll etc, so actually they were a pleasure to use! We had a really great weekend - took a stroll to the two nearby pubs and had a good walk along the hill to the White Horse and while I'm not sure I'd want to spend a long trip here because it is quite basic, I would definitely recommend it for a few days away of relaxing in beautiful countryside.

Just returned from a fantastic weekend at this site. Being allowed a fire really makes it a great experience. Marcella is quite strict about where you camp in terms of reusing the firepits so don't mess with the system as she's quite a formidable lady! When we arrived, she wasn't around so we just pitched up which was fine. This site has a lovely chilled back-to-basics feel about it. There were quite a few families but no rowdiness or misbehaving. It really felt like everyone was equally enjoying the fresh air, the views and the amazing birdsong. People seemed to stay on site in the evening - I think in part to the camp fires - why go to a local pub when you can sit around your fire? The facilities are clean and basic. We has some portaloos near us that were always in great condition with hand towels and loo roll. There are a few pubs within walking distance but we felt the B4507 was quite a dangerous road to walk along as although there wasn't a lot of traffic, people seemed to really speed along it. Uffingham is reachable via the footpath cross country from the Sheep field site opposite the main farm entrance. The walk up to the White Horse & Ridgeway is well worth doing for the views etc. Wantage is quite a sweet place with a Satuday market, lots of charity shops, Sainsburys & a Waitrose. Can't wait to go back!

We arrived for June bank weekend on friday evening in lovely sunshine and the site was beautiful, idyllic, wonderful views etc and we really happy.but had to leave early on Monday as we couldn't hold out any longer - too cold, wet and exposed in "sheeplands" field. It's really a site to use as a base for a few days for outdoor activities- fantastic walking and cycling and fires - so check the weather forecast! We had a fire that the kids loved until the rain came ! The owner seemed to have opened up 4 big fields for this weekend. Each field had 3 portaloos and then at her house there were 2 toilets and 2 showers and a washing up sink a good walk from all the camping fields. (Felt even further in torrential rain.) The facilities were not really adequate tro support a bank holiday weekend with 4 fields open - far more pitches than the 35 on the site description. When we arrived on Friday night there were about 10 of us in the field - by saturday afternoon there were over 40 tents in our field alone - and little space for the kids to play - by sunday, the portaloos were gruesome. The sheeplands field was a valley with quite a slope and a flattish ridge around the top- quite difficult to pitch on as still sloped - in the wet weather cars were getting stuck in the field and skidding /wheelspinning to get to their tents (up the slope) and it was quite difficult to get in and out of the field. The wind seemed to roar up the valley! It got quite boggy in the centre. The walk to the white horse and uffington castle was wonderful through the fields. It was the highlight on the first day. For wet weather, there is the STEAM museum in Swindon and the next door outlet centre - with some good outdoors type retail outlets - some great deals on outdoor and camping stuff .like new raincoats and boots! In summary, it is a beautiful site, word seems to have got around and it was really too full this weekend for its facilities. To see it at its best go midweek or on quiet weekends when the sun is out! Also the owner was a bit fed up with people lighting fires everywhere and not using spots that had already been used as it takes the grass a long time to grow back. Something to think about when pitching.Cannot fault the log delivery service.very helpful and convenient £3 for a bag of everything you need to get started and lasted the evening. Hope the weather is better for you all!

Spent last weekend at this site, and we were very reluctant to leave. As all reviews before, the lady who runs this site is fantastic, very old skool, she made us feel very welcome, brought logs for a campfire round about 8.30ish both nights, and as we were only one of two tents in our field, allowed us to shut farm gates so our dog could run around without escaping out onto the road. She was in no hurry to take our money, a rarity nowadays, and got on with the more pressing issue of running the farm, leaving us to enjoy the superb walks in the surrounding countryside. The dawn chorus from the multitude of birds was very refreshing, you really feel like your "down on the farm". The facilities were more than adequate for the number of people staying (around 30 tents). Although the owner was cursing "The Guardian" for all the unnecessary fuss their recommendation was bringing, so expect this site to get a lot busier over the summer. We will definatly be returning sometime this year, and I'd give this site a well earned 9/10.

Our friends braved the rainy and windy friday night in the top field, and were very very cold. The two fields further along the road however were much more sheltered, albeit without the views and with a slightly longer walk to the toilets. Good facilities, however way too far at night so we just pitched a windshield for private wees, fires allowed, great countryside all around, excellent camping experience. The walk to the white horse is an excellent one, and the views fantastic.

We stayed at this site over the early May bank holiday and cannot wait to return. There are two main fields; Plum Tree and Sheep's Field. Both fields are across a 'B' road from the farmhouse, toilets and showers. This is, however, not a very busy road at all and we didn't see anybody driving fast along it. If you have small children, it is probably easier to camp in Sheeps Field. There were also two overflow fields open when we visited but as neither Plum Tree or Sheep Field were that busy, this just indicates what a great site it is. As per previous comments, Marcella came around each night with fire wood and also sold delicious cream teas on the Sunday with amazing scones. We had glorious weather for most of the weekend and didn't travel too far. We didn't try the local pub for food but the prices seemed very good for home made food. For example, chicken and ham pie or hotpot for around £5.50 to £6.00 per meal. We walked the Ridgeway to Waylands Smithy and the White Horse and the views are splendid. There are also some lovely walks along the Thames not too far away. I did have one cold shower over the three days we were there but it was a Bank Holiday and I was up later than usual. Apart from that, a really perfect site.
