Just spent the weekend here on a meet.

Arrived at the farm reception and was told I should have booked, oops. Not that they were that busy but it was something to do with the number of Port-a-loo requirements.

Was told which field to go to, as well as info on the showers and the local area.

It should be noted that of the 5? fields, none of them are very flat.

The 1st field on the Swindon side of the farm is flattish lower down but you lose the view.

You can also walk up to the White Horse from this field, from the gate walk diagonally to the right. At the top corner is a gate which comes out by the cattle grid. Walk up the road.

At the bottom of the field by the gate were 1/2 doz loo's well stocked with paper and sanitizer and clean.

Worth noting that if you are pitched at the top end it's a good 5-6 min walk (depends how desperate you are) Some drove cars down. This field has 3 water taps but could be a bit of a walk depending on your pitch.

The only fields that are close to the showers are the 2 on the other side of the road opposite the farm. From the other fields it's a bit of a trek and a walk on the road which can be busy.

I cannot comment on the main facilities as I didn't use them.

Landy comes round late afternoon selling Fire Wood and Kindling at £5 per plastic Sack. The wood was dry and lasted well.

We did have an Ice Cream Van come round late afternoon.

There is a NO NOISE policy after 11pm which a few of the campers ignored, talking loudly and playing music till 01:45 on sunday.

You are advised by the owner if there are problems, to ring the Police on 101.

There are no child facilities except for plenty of space.

Nearest big shops are at Wantage (6-7 miles). Sainsbury's Argos B&M and a few more are on a new complex just off the Market Place with free ! parking for 2 hrs. There is also a Waitrose.

Swindon about 11 miles the other way.

We stayed on this sight for 3 nights (Friday until Monday) in a tent. When we arrived we were told that we had 4 fields to pick from and given some information on the surrounding area. All was good, toilets where clean and no rubbish anywhere. Around 5:30 in the evening the farmer came round with the fire wood and again around 7 ish so was loving the site.

The first problem was the hearing the constant banging of the toilet doors as they were spring loaded and campers had no idea how to close them quietly. This went on throughout 2 out of the 3 nights we were there.

On night two we decided to have a fire and brought some wood. These where logs the thinnest being about 10cm in diameter and the kindling wasn't much better. A lot of campers where using accelerants to help with the fire. We were told wasn't allow to use knifes or axes to split the wood to help. Just silly.

In the morning the toilets where getting a little dirty empty toilet rolls on floor and field, toilet paper streaming out onto the field and toilets becoming full. No one checked on or cleaned the toilets all weekend. In fact unless they were selling fire wood you didn't see anyone at all.

We tried one of the cream teas at the farm house as my wife loves them only to be disappointed there as well. The cream was whipped cream not clotted cream as it should be. That's just not right.

The last night was lovely as there was no toilet door slamming as most of the field had gone home that day so a quiet night.

Overall this site could do better by checking/cleaning the toilets and putting a sign up as and when they get full. Splitting their logs down or allowing you to do it yourself, and having a bit more of a drive round checking on the site and campers to make sure all is clean and well.

We have just returned from a lovely 4 night stay at Britchcombe Farm. There was a very warm welcome on arrival and we were given lots of information about the site and the surrounding area. We camped in the Sheeplands field opposite the farmhouse. There is a lovely view from the field and it's perfect for watching the sun set over the surrounding hills.

Facilities are basic but decent and clean enough. There are portaloos in the field which which were clean, well stocked with loo roll and hand sanitiser and were cleaned out after 3 days. There are a couple of proper loos near the farmhouse and 2 wash-up areas.

Showers are free, work well and have plenty of hot water. Three of the showers are in converted portaloos which I've never seen before and is actually an excellent idea as they form perfect shower cubicles. My only criticism is that the cubicles are carpeted and so are very wet and squishy underfoot when you get out of the shower. Not really a problem - you just need your flipflops at the ready.

There are 3 excellent pubs within walking distance. It's at least 1. 5 miles to each but nice, easy walks mostly through fields and woods (with a lovely herd of cows and lots of horses!) accesible from the back of the Sheeplands field. All are friendly, welcoming, have good beer and good food. We liked the Fox and Hounds in Uffington best as a pub. The Blowing Stone in Kingston Lisle probably has the best food (and is more 'restauranty') but The White Horse in Woodstone runs a very close second.

There is a small shop in Uffington (about 1. 5 miles) but I'd recommend stocking up on food before arriving as they only stock the very basics.

It was a last minute decision for us to stay here so we did not have a map but there are footpaths all over the place so it would be an excellent base for walks. The area is quintessential English countryside - all rolling hills and pretty villages full of thatched cottages. We intend to come back with a map!

The price is reasonable - £7 per person per night for a small campervan. Electric hookup is available at £6 per night.

We have just returned from this site after having a single night here, it was great. We arrived and were quickly meet by the owner who asked where we would like to camp, we asked for a view and a view we got! At the top of a hill in a field on our own! Water supply was within 10 feet and portaloos at the bottom of the hill.

We choose the Blowing Stone pub over the Fox and Hounds as it looked like is served restaurant food as opposed to pub food. Also we could book a table at the Blowing Stone, at the Fox and Hounds we were told that 20:00 would be ok for orders food. The food at the Blowing Stone was ok but the choice was not as much as we would like. Do visit both by car and look at the menus before committing to the walk of about 30 minutes.

We paid £5 for fire wood and after returning from the pub we lit a fire to sit and watch the stars. Something you cant do a most camp sites.

Note. It can get windy at the top of the hill.

In the morning we woke, re-lit the fire, cooked breakfast and went for a shower (clean and warm).

There are no hookups in the field we were in, there are hookups in a small field near the showers.

Overall a basic but very good site, we will be returning.

We stayed here as it was local and it's good for just getting away for a weekend camp at short notice.

First impressions are good, site was tidy nice views and it was quiet. Loved the campfires and you got a decent amount of wood for a fiver.

The owners were friendly and advised us on the best field to go in as we had children.

The facilities were limited but toilets and showers were clean, although not many of them so could be a bit of a wait at busy times. Portaloos in the camping fields were clean a looked after.

We had a good time the children had plenty of room to play safely,

We will be using this site again.

A group of us had a three night stay across an extended weekend with changeable weather. We choose the site as they accepted groups without a problem.

The location of the site is good with great walking directly from the site, easy access to the Ridgeway and White Horse / Dragon Hill. There are a couple of pubs not too far away (1-2 miles walk).

The facilities are fine, clean portaloos in the camping field and showers / toilets near the farmhouse. Being able to have a campfire near your pitch is good, however, the price of wood is on the high side.

The EHU camping area didn't look as good as the camping fields and did get a bit tacky with all the rain.

Overall a good site for the price and I'd use it again if visiting the area.

We have been camping at Britchcombe Farm for 5 years and its a brilliant campsite. We always camp in the field opposite the house as its the most convenient for toilets and showers.

The cream tea option is great on Saturdays. The owners are lovely and welcoming and the walks through the fields are gorgeous.

You might think its a little boring to go back to the same site every year but our kids beg to and we always have a lovely time. We're coming back in August 2014 and looking forward already.

This is a great campsite provided you don't really mind wild camping because this is just one step back from it.

Couldn't really comment on the staff as just checked in and then told to pitch up wherever we wanted. There followed a choice five fields! We chose a pitch on top of a hill because of the views. There were portaloos at the bottom of the field and showers and washing areas back at the farm - a bit of a trek really; but that was our fault for picking such a remote pitch. Showers were fine and washing up areas did the job. All were a bit basic but on this type of site no problem. Man came round to take orders for logs who was friendly.

The reason for staying here is to explore the surrounding countryside and sample to local pubs. The views from the upper pitches are just magnificent. I sat on most evenings with a beer in hand, next to my fire, with my two kids (daughters aged 9 & 5) running around the field having a great time (there was no one else in the field) in the great outdoors' staring endlessly at the panorama. Walks are plentiful. The White Horse and Uffington Castle are just above the campsite.

Nice pubs. The nearest is the Fox and Hounds at Uffington. Basic pub grub, very nice but a touch pricey for what it is. Very warm welcome though and good beer. Kids are welcome with a nice beer garden where dogs are also catered for.

This campsite is smashing for all kinds of campers. We had big family groups, small groups and trekkers stopping off for the night. Providing you don't mind the basic facilities and realise this is 'proper camping' then this site is a little gem.

We stayed two nights with two small children, and all of us adored this site.

It was well signed, with obvious places to park on the working farm site while we checked in at the friendly efficient reception.

There are several different areas with lots of space, and we were directed to Sheeplands, the 'family field' across the road, which although quite a way from the shower block did indeed have only families camping in it, which meant no music and early nights - perfect for us.

There was a water point and a row of immaculate portaloos in our field, which remained pleasant over the busy weekend and did not run out of loo roll, soap, tissues or paper towels.

The location at the foot of the hills was beautiful, though it did mean some pitches were sloping and I wonder how soggy it might get in wet weather.

The main shower block also had washing-up facilities, a fridge and a freezer for campers' use, though we didn't use them.

The farm also serves cream teas from 3pm at weekends, though again we didn't go.

Reception also sold eggs from their own hens (£1/6) and glow sticks.

There are lots of fire pits around the site, it was no problem to pitch up next to one.

The woodman came round once at about 4. 30 and again at 8ish, and sold us a bag of logs, a bucket of kindling and some newspaper to use as tinder for £5 - the advice to fill the bucket with water was sensible and heeded, especially with so many children about.

A footpath down the edge of the field led along the stream into Uffington (though the last turning wasn't well signed), where we found a friendly pub (the Fox and Hounds) who were more than happy to sell us ice creams to eat in their beer garden.

There was also an extremely well-stocked village shop.

The site charges per person rather than per tent or per pitch, which we felt was fair, and children under 5 are free.

We had a lovely time, and will definitely be back.

We camped here for two nights on the late May bank holiday weekend.

We liked:

1) Permission to camp where we wanted in any of 5 different fields. No fixed pitches. No regimentation

2) Permission to have an open fire.

3) The cleanliness and adequate number of the Portaloos.

4) Our camping field was one of the furthest from the farm and main washing facilities. We coped fine with our washing up at our pitch. (there were twelve of us) What little we saw of the showers and sinks suggested that they were clean and well maintained. The field itself was grass and clover, and had had sheep on it, but the remaining dung wasn't wet or offensive (and burned quite well! :-) ).

5) Above all, we loved the location. Our field was at the foot of White Horse hill at Uffington. We were about half a mile (and 400 feet below) the White Horse itself, and only 3/4 of a mile from The Ridgeway. We could have walked to Uffington village in about 30 mins, and easily managed a stroll along the Ridgeway via Wayland's Smithy to Ashbury for a pint. Our field felt wonderfully isolated from the rest of the world.

6) Access to the pitch is good. You are camping on chalk downland, which means it will drain well when wet, though we had beautiful, but chilly (for May) weather

7) All the staff were polite and helpful when required.

We didn't like so much:

1) Firewood was on sale daily, which is good, but for £5 per bag (and we used two per night) it is a bit expensive.
