We were lucky to have wonderful weather when we camped here. As it is fairly local to us, it's an easy place to go for a back to basics weekend. Lots of space to pitch, we chose the field opposite the farmhouse.
There are limited facilities, and we didn't use the showers, a quick wash is ok for a couple of nights! The portaloos are clean and well stocked with paper, soap etc. I did notice that the car entrance to some fields had been churned up a bit.
As others have said, it's lovely to have a campfire and sit around it in the evening. The wind does blow a bit around the site, basically it's on an exposed hillside, so make sure you peg out carefully.
A great place for kids to run around and just be themselves. A walk up to the white horse itself is a must, and remember to take your kite to fly when you are up there!

We love this campsite and have been many many times. It is a cheap and cheerful campsite with portaloos in the field you stop in, toilets and shower blocks at the main farm house. There is also a cafe at the farmhouse that serves pancakes in the morning and cream teas during the day. Both of which are always delicious!
The Owners are always exceptionally friendly and helpful. It is not too pricey so for a cheap and cheerful few days away is ideal.
The site is set in stunning countryside, ideal for walks. With a town nearby with pubs, shops and a park with children's playground.
The best thing about Britchcome is that you are allowed a campfire at night. The farmer comes round every evening selling wood and kindling and the kids love roasting marshmallows.

I've camped here many times and will continue to do so. It's close to my hometown of Swindon and yet a world away. The downs are expansively spread out all around and the feeling of space is liberating. Because it is high up, fairly exposed and on chalk, it can get absolutely baking in sunny weather, so sunscreen and hats are essential.
You can pitch anywhere and there's plenty of room; the only time I was ever crowded was August bank holiday, but that's par for the course wherever you go. The 3 fields have several portaloos each which are kept clean and stocked with paper. You need to go to the farmhouse outbuildings for showers and it can be a walk depending on where you're camped.
There are fire pits at regular intervals and you can easily camp by one. The owners bring wood and kindling round at dusk which is £5 a bag- the guy definitely is not creepy, just doesn't suffer fools. Perhaps because of their proximity to Swindon and Oxford they have had their fairshare of idiotic campers, some of whom have taken saws and axes to neighbouring woodland- the mind absolutely boggles! I was once woken up by a fight between two women punching each other, the police arrived the next day! This isn't usual however, and the site is generally very peaceful and perfect for couples and families.
One of my favourite sites.

Used this site because it is local to us (Swindon) and we wanted to get a first taste of using the Bongo with our boys (5&6).
Had an excellent time, even though we it rained heavily the night before (the owner told us because the site is on chalk drainage is very good there).
We were given a choice of fields when we turned up - there seemed to be ones for families and one for adults. Obviously ended up in the family one. Field wasn't too busy (due to the rain I guess) but was not deserted, and noise was minimum.
Washing block was functional but did the job. Plenty of hot water.
Had a camp fire, plenty of wood for a fiver (they do ask that you don’t bring your own because of problems with previous campers chopping down their neighbours woods for firewood). Was a little damp but we brought a bottle of BBQ gel to start things off. The boys loved this. One review on this site says the guy who delivers the wood is creepy - he was far from it, very friendly and was happy to answer questions from my chatty 5 year old. Guess some people are more sensitive than others.
Defiantly would use again.

Great campsite.
Very friendly staff who deliver wood for campfires - they even brought the tractor over to tow one of the cars up the hill when it got stuck due to the rain.
Facilities are quite basic - portaloos but that's because we stayed in one of the fields up the hill, further away from the farm where there were proper loos and showers.
Despite wet and cold weather all the kids and adults had a great time plus it's such a fantastic view and setting.

Just got back from a weekend with my husband and little dog. Perfect campsite if you want plenty of room to be left be, yet still have the basic facilities. Showers are brilliant for a camp site- blasting hot water any time of the day and they we're always kept clean.
We stayed in one of the lower down fields of which had portable loos- after the weekend madness of campers, these did not get cleaned up so I made the short distance walk to the main toilets- not a problem for us but if we had kids this could be a pain. ( or make them use the portable loos!)
The views from White Horse Hill are amazing and only a very short walk from the campsite. A man and his land rover pops by in the early evening hours to deliver the logs for your very own campfire - their safety conscience so provide a bucket for your water too!
Oh and Mr Whippy even popped by! Bit too early for the adults at 6ish in the eve, but my Christ did the kids form an orderly queue!
We would definitely return as its got everything you could ask for from a basic no frills working farm campsite - the owners are friendly and laid back and the facilities were always kept clean with soap, towels and loo roll a plenty!

We've just spent 6 nights on this campsite, using an Electric Hook Up pitch beside the farmhouse. My daughter was celebrating her 40th birthday. She+partner+4 yr old camped on field close by
GOOD THINGS - location. Beautiful countryside. White Horse within easy walking distance across one of the camping fields. Lovely villages and pubs around pub at Uffington within walking distance. 6 portaloos in each of the 5 or so camping fields and they had sinks, soap and paper towels. Campfires allowed BUT had to buy v expensive wood at farm. Lots of space for children to play in fields away from the farmhouse.
BAD THINGS - VERY EXPENSIVE at £10 per person per night for EHU. Facilities for all fields = 5 showers 3 electric, 2 tank fed. Hot water in tank run out by 07. 00. For those by farmhouse 2 of the 3 toilets were at the end of washing up room. The EHU camping field doubles as CAR PARK for weekend cream teas. On the Saturday night we were there. It was totally full of cars which surrounded our caravan + 2 others pitched there. A 50th birthday had booked the garden next to farmhouse and field. But we had not been informed and were still charged £20 for the 'pleasure' of being pitched in carpark. Fortunately, it was wet and our celebration was inside our awning. Car park/campsite soon became quagmire and still so when we left Sunday. This field NOT safe for young children because of the (unpredictable) car parking.

Britchcombe farm is a lovely quiet site set at the base of the downs.
The site contains a number of different fields (at least 3), but we camped in the field nearest to the farmhouse in order to be close to the facilities. The fields the other side of the road contain portaloos, but are a reasonable walk from the shower block.
Shower, toilet and washing up facilities are relatively basic but clean, free and with plenty of hot water.
The owners are friendly and welcoming and allowed us the use of one of the benches up in the tea room area.
The only drawback of this site is the distance from it to the local village but it is ideal for walkers/cyclists for an overnight stay due to it's proximity to the downs.

With a serious drought on we arrived and two of the fields were closed because they were completely water logged. It wasn't a problem, we went into the field opposite the farm and we set up near the bottom of the field.
There are portable loos on each field, the toilets and showers are really nice on the main farm house.
Marcella brings round logs every night which are £5 per bag which is a bargain really.
There is a nice walk which takes 40 mins into the town of Uffington, there is a nice pub called the Fox and hounds which does nice ales and good food.
To get there you have to walk across several fields, one with a massive bull in it.

Me(46), my brother, my son and his mate camped for weekend easter 2012. We chose this site for its locality ie white horse hill nearby. Its about an hour and a half's round trip to walk up there, see ruins and pretend you're st. George killing that dragon.
Great spacious site allowing real fires and everyone took advantage of this - cooking and keeping warm. Logs at a fiver very good value. However they don't like you bringing your own logs 'because people were burning pallets and garden fences'. We brought some chopped up logs from home and burnt them anyway.
Site over road from farm with tea room which we saw but didn't use.
Facilities several cleanish portaloos with toilet paper and water foot pump to wash hands. Didn't use shower block so no comment.
Big fields to play footie, American footie and frisbee. Wooded areas for kids to get kindling and wood for swords(to kill dragons!)
Lovely country pub Fox & Hounds in Uffington with good home cooked food(except pidgeon) and range of beers and lagers. We found 2 decent playgrounds one with slope and ramp for skateboards and scooters.
There's also a few museums nearby.
Will visit again - basic but beautiful location.
