My partner, Dog and I booked a couple of nights here, whilst our daughter was on a school trip and this was an hours drive.
We were greeted by the very friendly owner, and decided to stay in Ash tree bottom as it had some shade, and was a large enough field to have seclusion. There are several other fields to choose from, one with electric hookup, one very uneven but with fantastic views, and another closer to facilities. At £6 each, a bargain!
I cannot fault anything, it was fantastic due in part to good weather, good walks and peace and quiet.
We had a bag of wood delivered for £5 which lasted well and enjoyed cooking steaks and toasting marshmallows.
Local pub The Fox and Hounds did a good lunchtime menu, and Wantage approx 5 miles away has Sainsburys and Waitrose.
The portable loos and showers were clean, having said that we were there midweek, and only a handful camping. The owner said they are often full at weekends and school holidays, so can't comment on facilities if busy.
We will certainly return, I feel really chilled and loved this site.

We visited this site on recommendation from a friend and also it is close to home (this was our first camping trip with our 5 and 1 year old).
We were slightly 'nervous' of the chemical toilets in the fields (thinking festival toilets!), but had nothing to be worried about, they were very clean. Surprisingly, due to us going on one of the hottest weekends of the year, they didn't smell!
The campsite is beautifully located at the foot of White Horse Hill (where we had a lovely sunset walk). We stayed at the bottom end of the field located opposite the farm house. It was very busy but the kids still had lots of room to kick a football round and play cricket.
During the course of the day a man in a landrover drives round and you can buy logs from him to make a campfire (which the kids loved).
The only negative thing was the shower facilities, we had to queue and the water was either very cold or scalding hot.
We will definitely be visiting again.

A really lovely site in beautiful countryside.
We were welcomed by the owner on arrival and camped, as directed, in the field directly across the road from the farm buildings - there are several different fields on the site. The owner provided a rubbish sack and a useful printed sheet of advice about the site and nearby facilities and attractions.
On arrival we were given the option of having a real wood fire - and idea which was of course wonderfully exciting for my two boys. Wood was delivered to us by Land Rover in the late afternoon for £5 a sack - enough for three long-lasting fires.
Showers and washing-up facilities were across the road in a block constituting part of the main farm buildings. These were clean and we never had to wait to use them. Plentiful portableloos were provided in each field, and these were again clean.
There was an abundance of space to play in the centre of the field, and families joined in various games. Views from the tent were really delightful - hills, woods and open fields all around as the sun went down.
The field is next to the B4507 but although we pitched our tent near to the road we were not at all bothered by noise - it's a very quiet road and we found the site peaceful at all times. If you are allergic to the merest hint of road noise, it is possible to get sufficiently far away by choosing a spot further from the road.
The charming village of Uffington nearby (just over a mile, walkable by footpath) has a handy shop with extended opening hours. The town of Wantage (5 miles away) has a Waitrose and a Sainsbury's as well as many other shops.
We would definitely visit again - indeed I am slightly tempted by the idea of moving here permanently and commuting to work in Oxford.

Stayed here for two nights over the May bank holiday - although the site is very large and set over a number of different fields it was massively crowded and we were a bit disappointed with it overall. It didn't feel peaceful or relaxing because it was so busy, particularly with large family groups making quite a lot of noise. Perhaps it has been a victim of it's own success after write-ups in the national press.
Allowing campfires is great, the owner is friendly and there are nice walks around the site but if you're after rural isolation this isn't the site for you!

Arrived at the farmhouse and the lady owner handed us a bin bag for our rubbish and directed us to our field. Was quite slopey but plenty of level places to pitch all around the edges. Ground was very easy to get the peg's into and the site was nice and tidy.
The views from the field were absolutely stunning and watching the sun set was beautiful. The weather was the hottest of the year and we expected the site to become extremely busy but there was still plenty of room for the children to just run around playing. An older gentleman even attached a longer hose from the water tap and made a big water slide for all the children on a big piece of tarp which is a memory they will never forget!
The cream teas we had on Saturday (open btwn 3-5pm) were lovely and toasting marshmallow's oover the campfire of an evening was a memory the children will never forget. Logs cost £5 and they lasted us well for the night. Portaloos were fine and cleaned on Saturday morning and plenty of toilet roll.
If there is any negative comment I could make it would be the road you have to briefly go across to reach the showers / farmhouse etc, so be careful and stay on the grass verge if you are with children.
This is definitely a site we shall return to and offered our 3 children some truly wonderful memories.

My partner and I loved this site! We chose it mainly as it was fairly local and allowed campfires which we think is very important for camping. The campsite owner was very friendly and informative as too was the woodman that drove round regularly with a good supply of logs and kindling!
We thought the facilities were more than adequate for us although the site was very quiet at the time of year that we went, so we never had any trouble getting in the showers.
Each field had 4 or five very clean portaloos which I was very impressed with.
The pitches were unmarked with many fire pits dotted around the field to choose from. My only criticism here would be that I think the fire pits would be better if they were marked out with bricks or rocks to stop people just starting a fire anywhere they like!
The location was stunning with some beautiful walks! The campsite is located at the foot of 'White horse hill' which has some breathtaking views from the top.
We are coming back here for the bank holiday weekend equipped with kids, friends and dogs!
Would definitely recommend this site for all.

There was a large group of us visiting the area, and chose this site because we could have a campfire. What a gorgeous site! the setting is lovely and very peaceful, until about 3.30am when we were woken by the farm's cockerel giving his morning chorus. However, it is a working farm so would expect no less.
The facilities are basic but very clean and user friendly. The loos are plentiful. We stayed over a weekend and found the surrounding countryside a joy to walk. We split into groups and 'tested' some of the pubs about.
Some of us were without our own transport, and public transport does not service this site at all. This does mean though that it is very quiet.
We are already planning our next trip back

We first discovered Britchcombe a few years back when we were informed you could have a campfire-none of the other camp sites around the Swindon area allow them! Once you have had a campfire camping without one just isn't the same. Now after a dozen visits, Britchcombe is better than ever.
The toilets and washing up area have had a lick of paint and thus smell nice and fresh and the porta-toilets are clean and numerous. The views around any of the four campsites are still unspoilt and beautiful and there is the welcome addition of cream teas at the farm in the afternoons.
We only planned on staying one night but ended up staying three nights because it was so relaxing and the kids were happy and away from the XBox.
The landscape is hilly but this provides a bit of cover from other campers and there's plenty of flat areas to erect your tent. At night, the only sound you hear is the hoot of an owl or moo from the cows. There's no campsite within a 60 mile radius of Swindon that can match the peaceful, picturesque charm of this place and, best of all, they even deliver plentiful supplies of cheap firewood to your tent to enjoy the best bit, the cosy campfire.

My husband and I absolutely fell in love with this campsite. The location is stunning and the site is lovely. Some might say quite basic but just how we like it. Loos were fine, showers were lovely and hot, the people were friendly and welcoming and the cream tea on Saturday was a real treat. The walk to the top of Whitehorese Hill was steep but rewarding and the views from the top were breathtaking. We'd had some rain in the morning and we were able to watch the weather front move northwards for some miles.
We also did the walk across the fields to the White Horse Pub and then walked on to Uffington to the Fox and Hounds which looks incredibly inviting at night. We ate in both pubs over the weekend, food was great although a little restrictive if you're a non-meat eater like me. Although we didn't have a real fire ourselves we joined some other campers around theirs and it was wonderful to be able to sit around a proper campfire for a change.
We will definitely be coming back.

Good site with the added bonus of being able to have a camp fire with the delivery of wood. The only downside was the fact that the field that we were in hardly had a flat section to it at all. Having said that there were only 6 or 7 other sets of campers at any one time (one of those was a very noisy group but that is not the fault of the owners and when we mentioned it to the log deliverer the next day they spoke to them and we had no trouble that night.)
All in all a nice spot, in a lovely area, with good facilities and helpful staff.
