We thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay at this lovely campsite.

We had a pitch towards the back of the site and away from the road and did not find road noise an issue. The pitch was in good condition and of a comfortable size. There was a good mix of tents, motorhomes and caravans and a sense of space as there is an area of dense woodland in the middle of the site.

The owners were friendly and accommodating and worked hard to maintain the site.

The washing block was new, clean light and airy and we didn't have to queue to use. We found the family room very useful for the children.

The red squirrels were a delight and we had several trips a day to go to the hide in the woods behind the site and watch them.

The play area is set in a forest clearing and is rustic whilst being very sturdy eg seesaw made from a tree trunk and swings made from tyres. My husband even had bits of pinecone dropped on him by a red squirrel high in the treetops whilst watching the children play!

We had great trips out to Osbourne House, Carisbrooke Castle and also St Helens Duver. Bembridge is a pretty village with delicatessens, fishmonger etc but parking on the coast by the lifeboat station was tricky. Briddlesford Lodge Farm Shop near Wootton was also good - with calves outside in the barn for the children to pat. Generally we found the Island traffic through the towns surprisingly busy and avoided them in favour of the quieter rural back roads.

Overall a successful trip and we would definitely recommend the site.

 Good Points:

- pitches are more than ample

- red squirrels visit your pitch

- there is also a squirrel hide in the woods up by reception, which the owners have put various activity items for the squirrels, with nut boxes.

- plenty of birds to feed and watch their antics

- pleasant friendly staff

- dog walk goes all around the site in the pine woods which is lovely

- plenty of dog bins, which are sort of camouflaged into the woodland

- water points / chem disposal / bins / electric points are all enveloped into the woodland so you don't see them, which is a brilliant idea

- toilet block, immaculate, bright and airey, one of the very best we have seen. They even provide antibacterial handwash and novel toiletry bags for the ladies that are on the wall

- they also have separate amenities for disabled and have 2 family rooms where toilet / shower / basin in

- play area is also provided for children

- small stock of basic items on site, but 24 hr Tescos half mile up the road

Bad Points:

None

Observations:

- the lower number pitches do have some road noise, as they are nearer the road, which is quite busy, but if it doesn't bother you then its not a problem.

- showers spray out a bit but v good, there is a screened off area in the cubicle for you to hang your clothes/towels so make sure they are on the hooks behind the screen.

All in all a fab 8 nights, and have booked to go back next year already as you can reserve your pitch if avail, or another pitch for £10. They then write to you dec time for you to complete full booking.

Fully recommend this site for anyone camping whether van or tent.

Excellent campsite. Really easy to find from fishbourne.

Staff very friendly and helpful. Site was excellent and very clean especially the toilets and showers.

Little road noise but nothing to be worried about. Like most people have mentioned Tesco is 5 min drive, very handy.

Children had a great time on the park situated in the woods.

The pitches are a good size enough for tent awning and car plus a little extra for a gathering round the BBQ.

Definitely recommend to a friend and will definitely will return!

We are local people and due to the high cost of taking our motorhome off the island, are confining most of our visits to island sites. We have now visited many and we particularly enjoyed our stay here and can totally endorse all the previous comments.

We were very impressed with the attitude of the owners. They work tirelessly and aim to provide something unique. They obviously care about what they do and this is reflected in the atmosphere of the place.

The location is lovely, set in a forest clearing and they are making the most of this beautiful setting. Most pitches are spacious and back on to the forest. They are organised thoughtfully giving a feeling of space and not in rows as in many other sites. An excellent balance is achieved between the natural setting and keeping everything neat and tidy.

The forest walk is superb and much work and thought has gone into this. It is a haven for the wildlife as has been said before, but much effort has gone into allowing people to access and enjoy it without detriment. They are now planning to provide information points around the trail.

The facilities are excellent and are beautifully maintained. The owners personally clean them to a high standard and this is greatly appreciated. My only gripe is the push button showers were hard work! But this is part of the water conservation operating on the site which is essential on the island.

There is a little road noise on some pitches, but others are set on a higher level and are very peaceful. The whole place is a dog paradise and we felt our dogs were welcome and not just tolerated. As such, most people appreciated this and most dogs were very well behaved. They were well provided for and there are some superb walks from the site and we particularly recommend the one to St. Helens from there. Buses stop at the entrance to the site.

It was obvious that people appreciated this site and as such respected it. This was reflected in the fact that the site was full at a time when most sites were quiet. However, it did not feel busy due to the layout and ample provision of facilities.

It is not a place to go to if you want club houses and entertainment, but if you want a to enjoy a peaceful, relaxing environment, enjoy nature and want to meet like minded people, this is a must. I think it will become a definate haunt of ours.

Stunning site with the most fabulous toilet and shower block ever! Beautiful to look at and use, they were always really clean when we were there.

Designed by the owners, this 4 yr old site is situated in a fabulous pine forest, which has woodland walks around the perimeter. You can also walk to Bembridge along bridle paths etc. Takes about 1 1/2hours.

The owners have also created a red squirrel hide, where you can sit and watch the squirrels playing and feeding.

The pitches are large and well thought out, you may need an extension lead.

In sunny weather like we had, you could imagine you were in the South of France!

You can buy milk and bacon on site. Otherwise use Tesco Extra 1 mile down main road, or for yummier food Bembridge Deli.

Ryde itself was not our cup of tea, but we would definitely stay at the site again, as the island is so small you can visit everywhere really easily along its 1950's style lanes and roads!

We had researched a number of sites for our weeks trip to the IOW and this site came out on top. All previous reviews are spot on. This a lovely site with a gorgeous setting in the forest. A must for nature lovers with Red Squirrels, Woodpeckers, Buzzards and much more to see. Lovely clean facilities for campers and nice even grass pitches.

Hard-standing available for motorhomes etc. Lovely woodland walk and bird / squirrel hide on site. We had a lovely week and will definitely be going back!

Fantastic site - we totally loved it. The staff were great, it is all very well cared for and was obviously created with a vision in mind.

We did not notice the road noise but were not at the bottom by the road - it felt like we were in the middle of nowhere, yet Tescos was just down the road.

We loved the beach at Nodes Point (access via St. Helens). You did have to get there early for a parking space and it was about £7 to park for the day, but worth it. There was also a nice cafe there were we had a pint of shell on prawns with chips and salad which we enjoyed. One of our favourite beaches in the UK.

The children loved the play area in the woods at the site and there was a very friendly atmosphere there. We loved the way the site had been designed - hilly but pitches had been very carefully levelled individually and just the right amount of landscaping so it felt well kept but still natural.

We will definitely be returning.

Once off the ferry, using instructions easy to find. We passed Osbourne House on the way in so took the opportunity to pay a well worthwhile visit to this very interesting building.

We drove past the site and onto Tesco to fill up with our weeks general shopping as we knew there was no real shop.

Site owners very friendly and helpful, we were the first people to visit this financial year and we had the choice of pitch and got a fantastic pitch high up with an overview of the site. Beautifully laid out in the forest, very tasteful, lovely toilet and shower block with excellent washing machine and dryer for use.

Saw a red squirrel on the first night and the owners dog - well you just want to pick it up and run off with it.

We had the bikes but it is very hilly and they never left the rack, but, the bus stop is 5 minutes away and you can get a bus to Ryde every 20 minutes and get to anywhere on the island from there. Buses are good, lots of offers on fares etc. and we went to all the major attractions you would want to see without taking the van off site.

Tesco is actually within walking distance along the main road, the only thing I would say is that I would not want to take children down the road or out to the bus stops because the roads are very busy and fast and no paths.

This is a must visit.

Only drawback for me, my internet would not work, tried different connections etc but no result. However, the owners will let you connect with their broadband for a donation to charity but you have to be almost in reception and once they close it is very dark!

I have to agree with the previous reviews! Whitefield Forest is a fantastic site in cleared woodland.

The owners are really friendly and helpful and deserve all the success with their relatively new campsite.

Reception and toilet block are both superb and in keeping with the style of this site. We didn't miss having a shop as there is a Tesco 5mins up the road. Water, waste water and bins are all close by. The elsan point is up by reception so I needed to give the loo a lift in the car to get there but this is fine as it is well away of the pitches.

We loved Ryde and Shanklin and Blackgang Chine was excellent but we did think Sandown was a bit shabby and could do with a bit of a refurb.

Recommended!

Just come back from 5 glorious Caravanning days on this super site.

The site has a fabulous forest location, well maintained extra large pitches, feels miles away from civilisation but most of the best places to visit on the island are within easy reach. It's also easy to get to the site from East Cowes Ferry terminal.

Site Management very friendly and helpful and guided us to our pitch and made sure we had settled in afterwards.

Toilet/Shower block and washing facilities are the best we have experienced on a touring park.

Children have an adventure play area in the forest, away from the pitches, with authentic tree swings etc (you know, the ones that have a real tyre at the end of a long rope and swing forever!) Loved it - you will too.

Very happy to recommend this site to all.
