We have just returned from 10 nights at this brilliant site. The weather was fab, very hot, could not have been any better.

The check in was 1st class, staff always very friendly and helpful.

The Facilities block is very modern and spotless. There is a small laundry room with 1 washer and 1 dryer. The washer cost is £3. 00 and the dryer is £1.00 for 30 mins. They also have 2 family shower rooms, and a disabled shower room.

The kids play park that is in the forest area is fantastic, loads of things for kids to do, boards with info on about plants and animals that can be found.

The pitches are all a good size, and well placed around the park, and all within easy reach of the toilet block. The site is well lit at night time.

I have noticed a lot of reviews comment on road noise, however we didn't notice much road noise at all, and it never affected the enjoyment of our holiday. Also others commented on a lack of atmosphere, well I guess its not a site for them, because its was great, with everyone chatting in the evening, having BBQ's and just enjoying the atmosphere of the surroundings. There is no club house (its not that type of site, that's why its always full)

Tesco is less than 5 mins down the road, which is great.

The IOW is fab, and we will be returning again very soon. Whitefield Forest is one of the best sites we have stayed on in 3 years of camping. Will be booking again very soon.

We have just spent two weeks at this special site and have nothing negative to say. This is a beautiful quiet site and as previous reviews have said the pitches are huge. Ours was at the top of the site and we did not hear the road noise that has been commented on before.

The facilities are spotless and more than adequate, I never waited for a shower in the whole fortnight we were there or the washing up sinks. We sat outside our tent on most evenings as did most campers, the site is quiet after 10.30.

We have two children and I did not feel conscious of the noise they can make. Some reviews have said this site lacks atmosphere well it depends what sort of atmosphere you are looking for, we don, t go to sites that have pools or bars as we prefer non commercial sites if you like that sort of thing you may feel that this sites does lack atmosphere but we enjoyed the peace and quiet of the relaxing atmosphere.

There was a good mix of families, young and old on the site. We found the staff very friendly and all ways happy to help. There are plenty of water points, bins around the pitches.

The island is beautiful and we discovered most of it, we had a dog and found the best dog friendly beaches to be at yaverland, at the far end of sand down and brook beach on the west side of the island just before you get to crompton.

We did look at some other sites when we were there but nothing compared to this site.

This was our first visit to the site and indeed the IOW.

After a small issue with our ferry booking which Whitefield Forest had booked for us – nothing that couldn’t be overcome and it was a very genuine human error – we made it on the next ferry after our planned departure time and a little bit down on holiday spending money. Still, this was quickly forgotten after we arrived on site and were welcomed at the pleasant woodland surroundings.

The site wasn’t as I had imagined which was that campers would all be pitched in between the trees but I think this is probably a bit wistful of me and not at all practical! The site is on a hill but to overcome this the owners had tiered the pitches so that they were all level. The pitches were large and well spaced.

Water and refuse were close to us and I imagine not far from any pitch. There is only one toilet block on site and we were probably at the furthest point away from it but I didn’t feel that was any hardship until the 2 in-the-morning-dash to the loo! The facilities were indeed superb and clean and yes, the shower only runs for a very short period but most campsites have this type of shower don’t they? If I could bribe my children to have a wash, then the family washrooms afforded a bit of luxury with showers that free-flowed.

I’d agree with others that have said that it is a quiet site but we liked that and I was quite happy to get my head into a good book. We were pretty active during the day so not much reading actually happened and I quickly fell asleep. We were aware of the road noise as others have remarked but we did get used to it and only a couple of times were actually woken by it. I think other pitches further away from it wouldn’t have been bothered at all by it.

Our children loved the adventure play area and were busily building shelters with their site friends for most of the evening. In fact, it was really hard to get them to come and get food. This was wolfed down so that they could get back to having fun. As there some empty pitches this gave them some space to muck about with a ball but if the site had been full then a grassed play area would have been missed for ball games/cricket etc. We didn’t feel at all worried about site safety despite there being no barrier at the entry. I know you can’t be too careful but it would be a shame for the children not to have just this little piece of freedom.

I did use the laundry (washing machine and not dryer) and that was fine. Although there was only one machine there didn’t seem to be people queuing to use it all the time. You could also hire an iron from reception if needed. We also used the ice block freezing service that the site offered for a nominal charge but because I kept forgetting about it we only did this once!

Overall, a very enjoyable 10 night holiday in a lovely location with other like-minded campers in a well-run and managed site. Oh, and having Tesco a 5 minute drive away was so convenient and perhaps too convenient as we found ourselves in there most days!

We didn't eat out much and tended to hot-foot it back to the site to BBQ but we did go the Ryde Carnival and treated ourselves to a pizza out in a pretty good authentic Italian restaurant the name of which escapes me but it was right on the sea front.

We hope we’ll be back so at least I can get a better look at the red squirrels – they don’t hang around for long! Well done Whitefield Forest!

We're just back from our second family holiday at Whitefield Forest, so I guess it's fair to say that we like the site! In fact, it's one of the best sites I've ever stayed on - and I've been camping for many years!

What we like:

* The ethos of the site - the owners don't try to cram as many people onto the site as possible - the pitches are huge - some of the biggest we've come across. We also like the fact that people turn in relatively early - it means that we don't feel so dreadful when our children are up with the lark! We've stayed on sites with more 'evening atmosphere', which in practice means that our children have been kept awake until very late. The fact that the site is so quiet and doesn't have the clubhouse etc of other sites means that the people who go there tend to be those for whom that's not the ideal.

* The facilities are superb - the toilet blocks are clean and well maintained - the family shower rooms are spotless, and not an afterthought like they are on some sites.

* The park and forest surrounding the site. I like the fact that my children can run free (and yes, mine are fairly young) and can play in the park in the forest. My son has spent much of the past week building dens out of logs, and playing games with the other children on the site - in fact, we've hardly seen him! My(much younger)daughter has also really enjoyed playing in the park, and we felt able to let her run free as the families on the park all looked out for the children of others.

Our (small) niggles are:

* We found the road noise quite intrusive this year. Last year, we were on a pitch further up the site, and were further away from the road. However, after a couple of days, we got used to it.

*The showers in the main facilities are push button, and each push of the button lasts far too little time. This meant that we made sure that the children came with us and we used the family washrooms out of preference as these don't have push button showers.

Would we come back again? Most definitely. This is a very special site. Other campsite owners should take lessons!

Our 2nd visit to this beautiful site. Unfortunately we did not get good weather, went home on day 11 of 14. This was not Whitefield's fault in any way, we were just fed up with the rain.

I love this site, the facilities are excellent, and it is kept immaculately clean. Even with the atrocious weather, I did not ever see muddy toilets or showers, the staff really do deserve praise.

They are all so friendly as well. I would give this site the top rating, if there was an 11/10 we'd give it!

We'll certainly return here time & time again. Keep up the good work and see you again soon!

Just returned from a lovely week basking in the sunshine on the IOW! We found Whitefield Forest to be a totally relaxing site in a stunning natural backdrop of ancient woodland.

The location is good for beaches etc and there is a 24 hour Tesco up the road.

The facilities were excellent and kept spotless, the owners are out cutting the grass the moment you vacate your pitch and obviously take a real pride in the site, they also seem to do regular patrols.

My only gripe is that the showers in the ladies are the push button ones but you only get about 10 seconds of water before they go off and have to keep pushing, I know a lot of sites have these to conserve water which is fair enough, I just wish they could set them so you got 2 minutes of water at a time and don't have to keep pushing!

The only other thing to add is that on arrival we noticed that the site was very quiet and this meant that we felt we had to try and put our tent up without making any noise which made us feel a bit awkward. After a few days we decided that this quiet was great for relaxing, however we found that it meant the site lacked atmosphere, and as another reviewer stated it felt like 'something was missing' especially in the evening when most people seemed to be in bed really early, don't get me wrong we don't like a noisy site or a site where people are up partying till midnight - we just like a little bit of atmosphere with some fellow campers outside enjoying a few drinks and an evening BBQ etc, however we did not witness this once on this site which we found very unusual and a bit disappointing.

Because of the lack of atmosphere we debated as to whether or not we would return here and decided on balance that we probably would but not for some time, and only if we fancied a really quiet week in lovely surroundings which this site is perfect for.

Just returned from Whitefield. Brilliant laid back site. Booking in quick, staff friendly. Reception have small supplies (Tesco 24hr Extra less than 5min by car/ 15mins by foot cross country) and many many island attraction/tourist leaflets!

Pitches extremely large, we have a 6 man tunnel tent with porch, could of had three on our pitch! All pitches have EHU. Water points, waste points and chemical disposal clear and dotted around park.

Amenity block, large, modern and spotless. At least 8 dish wash sinks, Laundry room with washer and dryer. Fantastic play area for kids. Pretty site, a little noise from main road.

Feeling of security, my kids loved it here! Fellow campers abided common sense rules (assume we did too!). We will return in the very near future.

I have nothing but praise for this site. The owners were friendly & welcoming.

The toilet and shower block are the best I have seen on a camp site spotless and free hot water all the time. We never had to queue.

Freezer block freezing in the shop - very useful. The shop it self was very basic, but a huge 24h tesco extra just down the road.

The pitch was large with EHU, we have a large tent and we had plenty of room for wind breaks and car. Level and well drained. Our pitch backed on to woods with the dog walking path - useful as we have a springer, the site is very dog friendly.

We saw red squirrels every day and in the woods there is a hide where you can watch them.

In short its such a lovely site with good bus links around the island that we will be going back.

Just spent a lovely four days on the Island. Having read the reviews on this site we looked at Whitefields website decided to book. Great choice perfect site, we have a large tent and the pitch sizes were very generous and fairly private. The forest setting is idlyic with red squirrels and other wildlife always present. We found this site very family oreintated and dog friendly. The walks around the perminiter were lovely.

The shower blocks and other facilities were top rate always kept spotless, never been to such a clean site. After a few people packed up to go home the owners were cheaking the pitches and mowing them ready for the next camper.

My children were off all the time playing in the forest was anxious at first but realised it is very safe and secure. It is such a friendly and relaxing atmosphere everyone seemed to look out for others and everyone said good morning.

Good base to be did not have to drive far to go to most attractions. No downsides really only weather on one day which made it harder to dry tent out next morn on departure and we wished we had booked a few extra nights as the site was so nice. Commenting on the bikes yes some nights we did hear speedway bikes but they finish by ten did not effect holiday at all. Overall excellent value for money for such a lovely campsite. Highly recommend if you fancy a change from a field pitch. We are already planning return visit.

We're just back from our first visit to Whitefield Forest. We visited during the peak of the summer holidays, and the site is large so still feels spacious when busy and you are not crammed in.

Overall, we were very pleased with the site, however there are some significant downsides that we felt blighted our experience a bit.

On the plusses first - A great location, nicely set in the woods with walks and lots of wildlife around (although I only saw one squirrel!). The site is well laid out and a one way system means traffic is well controlled.

The kids playground is good, lots to keep them entertained. Not a great site for young bike riders though, as it's quite hilly and there is not a lot of open space.

The washroom facilities are excellent, kept very clean and generally no waiting, although I noticed the shower temperature was a little bit too cold to be pleasant the very busiest times. Two family shower rooms which are very useful for those with little kids. There is also a laundry - £3 for a wash token and £1 for the dryer.

The location is very convenient for the huge Ryde Tesco, beaches, walks and lots of other facilities. The site staff were very helpful and friendly, and could be seen out and about regularly, without you feeling spied on. There is a little shop in reception, but it only really sells milk and teabags, not a huge choice but then you don’t really need it with the Tesco so close.

Now the downsides-

As mentioned by other reviews, the site is very near to a busy main road. Whilst this is great for convenience, this means, depending on where you are pitched, constant traffic noise. By far the worst is the bikers who scream along the road (despite it being a 50 limit) and make a deafening row at all times of the day and night. This would frequently wake our children up. You will also often hear emergency vehicle sirens as they put them on whilst passing the crossroads outside the site. On a few evenings during our stay, there was also a lot of noise from what must be a motorbike or quadbike track nearby.

The other issue is that of security. I was surprised that a lot of parents let their children (some looking no older than four or five) roam the site unsupervised. The site is surrounded by dense woods, and the road runs alongside the play area (although there is about 100ft or so of trees between the two). Nevertheless anyone could walk onto the site unchallenged, and indeed on two occasions I was stopped by people not staying on the site and asked what I thought of the place. Also, once reception closes in the evening there is a steady steam of people driving onto the site to use the facilities as there is no entry barrier or keyfobs for the washrooms. It just made me feel a little uneasy at times that there were quite a few people around and about on site who obviously weren’t staying there.

With those reservations, we did still thoroughly enjoy our time at Whitefield Forest and would recommend it. If you have a choice of pitch though, make sure it’s as far away from the road as possible.
