We stayed here for four nights, the two of us & our 9year old grand-daughter. We have holidayed on the Island countless times with our children over the past 30 years, but this is the first time we have stayed on a touring site. We were delighted, the site is spacious and well laid out with the pitches terraced and level, a mixture of grass & hard standing. The amenities block is first class, plenty of showers & toilets with wash-basin cubicles too. Also family bathrooms, a disabled bathroom & a laundry. Ample waterpoints around the site.
We were shown to our pitch on arrival and made to feel welcome, Pat & her family were always happy to help if needed, they have put in a lot of hard work in developing the site & deserve our thanks for providing such a pleasant place to stay. We will definitely return!

I would recommend this site to anyone.
This is a woodland site but trees have been cleared to give plenty of light, extremley well planned very large pitches all with electric.
The toilet and showers are some of the best I have seen.
It is a family run site and the owners are very proud of it.
There is a bus stop at the site gates to go to either Ryde, Sandown, Shanklin or Newport from where you can get any where on the island.
A huge Tesco 1/2 a mile away, also a McDonalds and a bonus for us was the Waving Waters which dance to music, we were even given a free return visit for these with in 7 days.
We would love to make a return viit to the IOW and would certainly use this site.

Just got back from this superb site, visited after reading the reviews on this forum.
I will not repeat all the good points already mentioned as they are all 100% TRUE !
Must thank Pat for changing our return ferry dates as we decided to extend our stay at short notice.
As mentioned by a previous reviewer the one way system, whilst an excellent idea, is not clearly sign posted, but that's about the only negative thing I can think of.
Pity there are no pubs or restaurants within walking distance but but many within a short drive are well worth visiting, browse any of the free magazines from the ferry or on site, they are all listed.
Good luck to everyone connected with the smooth running of this lovely site - we'll be back.

Just spent a week at Whitefield with our friends and their caravan, in total 4 adults, 5 children.
This site itself is on a slope but the pitches are generally level, either grass or hard-standing. We had heavy rain the first night we were there and that made our pitches quite boggy but in a caravan it's not really important, the tent pitches were up towards the top of the site where it was a lot drier.
The amenities are excellent - the toilet block is immaculate and probably the best I have ever seen - spotlessly clean and the private bathrooms would grace any top notch hotel! There are loads of water and waste points all in their own little log areas. There are a number of small play areas in the woods on the site which the children loved. The majority of pitches, if not all, have electric hook-ups.
The site is close to Ryde, Sandown and Shanklin and you can use the bus if you want to leave the car, even the Needles (part National Trust) is only 40 mins drive away. There is a huge new Tesco about 1 minutes drive away for all the stuff you may need but the site itself feels quite isolated and out of the way and very safe for the children to play. The owners are very welcoming, friendly, helpful and obviously take great pride in a site they have cut from the forest themselves - make sure you book the all inclusive ferry and park package with them as this will save you a fortune.
If you want a quiet holiday on the Isle of Wight with no bars, discos but fantastic facilities then this is the site for you, superb.

We have just spent 4 days at this lovely quiet site, we have been camping many times and this site is as good as any we have visited.
The pitch sizes are superb plenty of room for tent, car, picnic tables etc. Our pitch was on a stepped terrace which gave lovely views of the forest. You can see (and hear via the dawn chorus at 4am) a wide variety of birds - also rabbits and red squirrels.
The shower block is extremely clean with free showers and plentiful hot water. The owners are very welcoming - everything is very efficient.
If you wish to get a bus into Ryde in the evening (and leave your car behind) there is a stop right outside the site entrance. The only downside is the price is rather steep - £3 each way into Ryde, also the bus stop is situated on a grass verge on quite a dangerous bend on a 60mph road (not great when getting off in the dark).
Our favourite resort on the Island was Ventnor, very picturesque with a lovely beach. If you follow the coastal path west beyond the beach you will reach a secluded cove with a beach cafe - Steephill Cove, well worth visiting.

Having just returned from our second visit to Whitefield Forest this year (with next year already booked!) we cannot recommend it highly enough.
This site has been expertly designed and constructed. A great deal of thought has gone into the planning and it continues to develop in a most pleasing way. The family are extremely helpful and friendly and obviously aim to provide a first class service.
Pitches are large and level offering a choice of grass or hard standing, sun or shade. All have electric hookups. There are plenty of taps, waste water disposal points and rubbish bins (frequently emptied so they never 'overflow') all attractively hidden behind waist high log fencing. Low level lighting illuminates the track at night. (Our one suggestion is that the one way system around the site could possibly be a little more clearly marked.)
The facilities in the toilet block are superb and spotlessly clean. Plenty of really hot water!
There is no need of a shop (although gas is available) as Tesco is only a 5 minute drive away.
There are plenty of walks from this dog friendly site.
The nearest beach is at St Helens and there are pleasant eating places in the locality catering for all tastes and budgets. Plenty of attractions to suit all ages can be found on the island.
We wish Pat, Simon and Louise much deserved success with this exciting venture!

We really enjoyed our stay here. The facilities were clean and well looked after. The surrounding area on site was lovely with suitable pay areas for 6+. The site mixed tents, caravans and motor homes which was nice and pitches were enormous. There are lots of water, waste and rubbish points. Owners are helpful and site is still being improved. T hings which others have mentioned like stools/chairs in showers would be good. My 3 daughters thoroughy enjoyed the freedom on this site. We saw several red squirrels and there are some nice walks from the site. The Bugle in Brading does good food, as does the chippy, but the bugle gets very busy and its better if you book it has excellent play areas for children. We loved the beaches at Bembridge and St. Helens clean and safe. There is so much to do on the island, but our girls loved crabbing at Bembridge and toasting marshamallows on a fire we made on the beach at bembridge(yes you are allowed). We will definitely go back. Thankyou Pat and Simon for making our holiday great.

What a wonderful place. It was our first time camping and the owners of this sight had made sure we will going again. Every pitch has electric hook up and waste and drinking water were available at frequent places around the site. There was also rubbish bins located around the site and these were emptied every night. The toilet and shower blocks are very clean and spacious. I have three children and the family rooms are invaluable as were the washing and drying facilities. There is also a one way system in place around the site and speed restrictions. Although we were told about it when we arrived its not clearly marked and some people ignored it, making it difficult for the kids to play. The pitches are big and gazebos are allowed. Some of the pitches are stepped as the site is on a hill but they are either laid to grass or hard standing. There is a small children's play ground and its situated in the woods at one end of the site. I am not sure if its complete yet but it was adequate. There was however no where for children to play with a ball and as I have two children mad on football we found that we had to wait for a nearby pitch to be vacated for them to have a kick about. We also took the dog and found plenty of dog walking off the site along bridle paths at the back of the site. The owners were incredibly helpful and the offer newspapers in the morning and a freezer pack service. I would thoroughly recommend this site to anyone thinking about camping on the isle of wight. Its fantastic!

We went away with our 3 year old son and our 2 friends who enjoy the nicer sites with good facilities. They were not disappointed there! PITCHES-huge. We put two 8 man tents with gazebo on one and 2 cars on the other and used it as our play area. FACILITIES-immaculate, warm, never queued for showers, 2 good family shower rooms, washing facilities-40 minutes for a wash and 25 to tumble dry (are you supposed to do housework on holiday?) OWNERS-extremely friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and always available. They booked the ferry for us through the package deal and kept in touch checking departure times etc were to our satisfaction SITE- I never consider a shop on site to be a requirement of my camping trip anyway!fairly quiet although the road nearby is a 70 limit and we could hear the motorbikes coming and going for a fair distance at times during the night. Our 3 year old had plenty to explore in and around. The forest is lovely. No obvious over-infestation of midges etc LOCALLY- with a child everything requires a car apart from the 40 minute walk down the track and across fields to a great pub in St Helens that has a childrens' playground across the road and serves very good food till 9pm (and excellent beer). Tescos is a few minutes away as has been mentioned, Brading-just down the road- has a large pub with excellent childrens' play areas inside and out.
All in all an excellent site but you need your car.

This campsite is set in a woodland area on the road between Ryde and Brading, and is newly opened as at the time of this review (Aug 2007).
The toilet / shower blocks were absolutely spotless, and very handsomely built to fit their surroundings. Despite the site being full I never had to queue for a shower and there was always hot water.
The owners have clearly made a great effort to lay out the site in a pleasing way. All the pitches are level (this has been achieved by terracing where necessary) and are an ample size. I didn't measure our pitch but we had enough space for a six man tent (Vango Colorado 600 DLX), a utility tent and the car, with spare for the picnic table, chairs and other camping kit. I saw a good few larger tents on the pitches which fitted easily.
The site has a very relaxed feeling to it, which is helped no end by the pleasant and welcoming attitude of the owners. There are several areas of woodland in the middle of the site which children can safely explore, and we discovered one play area which had clearly been constructed using timber from the cleared out areas. This wasn't (as far as I could tell) signposted, so it really was a discovery. There are climbing frames, monkey bars and a pair of swings made from rope and a tyre hung off a pair of tall trees. These are basic, but the kids had a wild time on them. The play area is a work in progress, but the kids loved it. Having trees dotted around the site is really useful in the Summer when it's hot, as there is always some shade to be had, but obviously some pitches have more shade than others.
The only downside is the road noise which gets worse at rush hour times, but it was never overly intrusive. There is also a speedway track nearby which holds events (which can be heard) two nights a week, but they end at 10:00pm, so it's not such a bother.
This was our first camping experience so we did not know what to expect, but staying at Whitefield Forest was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend it. It is well located for Shanklin, St Helens and Sandown on the right hand side of the island, so a good choice if you are looking to spend lots of time on the beach.
