Wholeheartedly agree with previous comments. Beautiful site. Pretty with plenty of trees, large level pitches and extremely good washing/toilet facilities which were kept spotless by the staff. We also witnessed a problem with front wheel drive cars finding their wheels slipped on the loose gravel as they tried to negotiate the steepest part of the hill. The Isle of Wight was a very good choice to holiday as it is both very beautiful and seems to enjoys a lions share of the good weather. The only reason I am downgrading my marking for the site is because, as previously mentioned, the traffic noise from the nearby main rood between Ryde and Sandown is quite bad until you get used to it. It seems to have more than its fair share of very noisy motorbikes and continues on into the night. You soon get used to this and the other advantages of this site previously mentioned far outweigh this nuisance.

We can only echo all the previous great reviews. We just spent 7 nights there with our young daughter. Our pitch was huge and level, the best we have ever had. All pitches (I believe) have electric hook up, which we used) On other sites we were squashed with our big tent, no problem with that at all here, we could have fit another tent in next to us! New pitches currently being created and levelled out, should be ready by end of season. We were welcomed and told about the site by one of the friendly owners. The toilet block was always spotless (there are two separate family bathrooms as well, plus another one again for those with disabilities). Plenty of toilets and showers. Reception is open 9am - 5pm which is less than some sites we have been to, so be organised if you need tokens for washing machine, drier or want to borrow the iron. There is a lovely little adventure playground for children and you can walk in the 'woods'. Tesco (and petrol) is less than half a mile up the road and is open 24 hours which is brilliant. The site is generally very quiet and all the campers quiet and considerate whilst we were there (during term time so few families with children perhaps.). However, you must bear in mind that the site is very close to the main road and at night people seemed to be racing along a bit. Took me a while to get used to it but not a big issue really.
*** NOTE FOR CARAVANS *** This site is on a slope with a one way system. Whilst there we witnessed an estate car having trouble towing his caravan up the slope by us as he kept slipping on the gravel. Everyone else obviously managed it but it is something to be aware of.
** Things to do** - Nothing is really far away on the Isle of Wight so there is loads to get out and do. Isle of Wight Zoo is very good, mainly focused on tigers as that is its history. Dinosaur Farm on the south coast is very low key but cheap and suprisingly engaged our young daughter much more than Dinosaur Isle. Beaches at Ryde, Yaverland, Sandown, Colwell Bay all great. Carisbrooke Castle is excellent. Isle of Wight pearl has a huge selection of jewellery but some big price tags! If you like cream teas go to Chessell Pottery Barns. The best cream tea we have had. Lovely cafe area, gift shop where you can buy the pottery plus other lovely items, plus you can also paint some pottery yourself. If you want some fish and chips on the beach avoid CodFather in Ryde but definitely recommend The Lake FishBar. A local highstreet chippie, then take them to the beach at Sandown! If you plan to drive a lot and park up for the day to use beaches etc, get a tourist parking permit. We paid £30 for seven days. Very nearly covered our cost but it did rain a couple of days which stopped our plans. Saves you hunting for change as well.
Pick up a copy of the tourist newspaper and magazine on the boat. They provide loads of information and the occasional discount voucher. Recommend you buy an A-Z as well to help navigate the country lanes.

Just returned from a very enjoyable 5 night stay at this site. 5 nights not long enough & hope to return soon for a longer stay. First visit to the Isle of Wight & very impressed & feel we have found a real gem in this campsite. Owners very friendly & helpful. Toilet block one of the best we have stayed at. Very good size pitches, spaced well apart, plenty of room even with our large twin axle caravan. To top it all, the last day before we left we saw a red squirrel.

This was a lovely site, set, as the name would suggest, in amongst trees. All of the pitches I noticed were flat and well kept with the lawn mower brought out as soon as campers vacated their space. I cannot recall if they all had hook ups as I don't use one myself but I believe they were. The toilets and showers were very clean. The staff were friendly, particularly when my dog decided to get lost from us on the dog walking area and subsequently handed himself into the reception office!
The brochure said that the area was home to red squirrels and I was lucky enough to watch one scamper by whilst sat outside my tent.
We were blessed with some fantastic weather which I think always puts a more positive slant on places, but I would definitely visit again, it's a shame it's on the IoW really and therefore less accessible for those not wishing or able to pay the hefty crossing fares. As we were only there for 3 nights we didn't get to explore the whole island though so will return at some point and will definitely choose this site.
The only down points from my point of view were that you can hear the traffic from the main road close by, and as far as I am aware there were no pubs within walking distance.

We had high hopes of this site after reading the reviews and we were not disappointed.
The site was very well laid out and the pitches were huge, we could fit the car, tent (tamor 500) and a 3m x 3m gazebo and still have room left, electric hookups were available on every pitch as well. The toilets and showers were very clean and big enough to handle large numbers of people using them at one time. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Situated between Ryde and Brading you are never far away from the beach or shops, a large Tesco is five minutes up the road.
We would highly recommend this site to anyone looking for a stay on the island, I would also urge you to take a look at the red funnel camping offers, which are value for money.

We have just returned from this lovely site, with its great layout surrounded by beautiful woodlands and all its natural habitat, red squirrels, spotted woodpecker, rabbits etc. The owners were extremely nice and very helpful. The toilet / shower block is new and very clean. The pitches were ample for our twin axle, + car and we could have put up our rather large awning if needed. There was not much for the children to do on site but out and about was brilliant. The beaches were clean and with easy access to the local buses meant you did not have to use your car if you did not want to. My OH and I were here for six days and we found something different to do each day. Tescos was a stones throw away and we even found Lidl. We would definitely return to this site and also bring the grandkids.

Just returned from 5 nights at this fantastic site and would highly recommend it to anyone staying on the Isle of Wight. We went with the Red Funnel ferry / camp deal which I'd recommend as well.
The pitches are large, we could have fitted our tent on the same pitch as our friends, both tents are 6 man family tents. The site was terraced and well drained and it looks like more terraces are under construction. There was little noise, a few cars and a local train track, and Tescos is just round the corner which was very helpful.
The ammenities block looked brand new, we spotlessly clean and the bins around the site were emptied regularly. The pitches were mowed as soon as they were vacated, the paths well maintained. I can't think of a single area that needs development.

Difficult to add much materially new to the complimentary things and systematic descriptions posted by the previous reviewers. We found Whitefield Forest to be incredibly well designed / landscaped; in fact I would defy anybody to say that this is not one of the best sites they have ever used. The only detail I would mention is that you are never free of traffic noise. I guess as campers / caravanners, we can’t have it both ways!
We stayed over the Late May Bank Holiday weekend when the site was full and the single large modern toilet block (complete with family rooms with baby bathing facility; disabled facility; privacy cubicles; washing up facility; washing machine.) was immaculately maintained and coped perfectly with the number of people.
The Isle of Wight is a very nice place to visit, just pick up a copy of the various free guides (e.G. Wight Life; Island Visitor; Official guide; Holiday Guide) and you will find everything listed.
Some notes on the ferries: We found that there is no need to worry if you are early or late for your booked crossing. As long as you have a valid ticket, they will get you on the first crossing with available space. We found Red Funnel consistently cheaper than Wight Link. Check the inclusive Ferry / Camping packages offered by Red Funnel. Red Funnel accept Tesco vouchers on a 4x face value basis.
A few personal recommendations: Warren Farm, Alum Bay (Award winning farmhouse cream teas), Buddle Inn, Niton Undercliff (Food, real ale, music in ‘Smugglers Barn’), Bonchurch Inn, Bonchurch (Superb, medium priced Italian restaurant.), Yarbridge Inn. (CAMRA IOW Pub of the Year 2006, 2007, 2008: good food too!)
Things I think you will like about the I.O.W: Conjestion free driving. Numerous significant festivals / rallies all year round. Numerous / diverse visitor attractions. Numerous beaches and un-spoilt bays. Vast network of well signposted footpaths / bridlepaths / byways / cycleways. Good value, family oriented eats & drinks places everywhere.

Just to add my vote to the other very positive reviews of this site. Spent a week there in our new bell tent with Mrs Sheeprug and 5 year old son. Weather was a bit mixed but never too bad. Our first visit to the IOW.
Nice new site, very clean, good size pitches - many with shady trees, children's playground (you need to look!). First rate toilet / shower block, washing up facilities, etc etc. See other reviews. Oh, and several red squirrels too.
I was very tempted to write a humorous review (or attempt it anyway), complaining bitterly about trivial items and hope people got the joke, because there really is nothing serious to complain about and much to praise.
Would definitely return if visiting the IoW again.

We have just spent four nights at this site and would recommend it, especially this time of year, the coastal campsites were very open to the elements, but here you have the protection of the trees.
It is very well landscaped. The whole site is on a slope, but all the pitches have been terraced so are more or less level and each one is divided by plants or trees giving a feeling of privacy.
There is a power point on every pitch and water and waste disposal at convenient distances - all are surrounded by log fencing which blend them into the woodland.
The toilets and shower block are exceptional, we have been camping for many years and these facilities are the best we have ever come across. They are regularly cleaned and smell nice, there are private cubicles with just wash basins, spacious showers and plenty of hot water.
There is a great play area in the woods for the children and an abundance of wildlife, the dawn chorus is fabulous and the red squirrels are cute, (living in a forest on the mainland we only have greys, so the reds were quite a novelty!).
The site does not have a shop, but as there is a 24hr Tescos 5 minutes away it's not necessary. The owners were genuinely friendly and as campers themselves know how to treat their clients, they offer the service they would expect to receive.
We will definitely return to this campsite, it's in a good location to visit everywhere on Wight and there is still loads more to see.
