Quite possibly the nicest campsite we have ever been to. Clean, friendly, welcoming and well priced.
Have never seen toilets so clean and well attended, and so warm! Showers were amazing.
Other campsites could learn a lot from this one. Can't wait to go back!

This is the best site my family have ever stayed on in the UK.
From the moment you arrive you feel welcome, the staff & management are very helpful and pleasant, the facilities are excellent, fully serviced pitches make life so much easier.
Because the site is off the beaten track a little it feels your right in the heart off the countryside but with all the facilities on site you will ever need.
Great family pubs very local and the nearest town about 10 mins away and beaches not much further away.
Fantastic site 10 out of 10

To repeat what many other visitors have stated; this is an excellent campsite, which offers very comfortable facilities and surroundings. We stayed in Buttermilk Meadow, and occupied a well situated and serviced pitch, with superb toilet facilities nearby. Only visited Union Inn at Denbury and this matched standards of campsite (definitely a good idea to reserve a table as was very busy). Visited Dartmoor (Haytor) and Babbacombe Model Village and both were impressive in their own ways!
Will almost certainly be returning as site is convenient from Gloucester and ticks all our campsite boxes (No awful club!).
Only tiny negative - exit is very narrow and requires full concentration!

We stayed in the site over the Easter weekend.
We arrived a little early and since out site was free we were allowed to set up straight away. We stayed in the tent field which was a bit uneven, but we managed to pitch on flattish ground. Not sure if the tent field ever gets full, if it does could be a bit of a squeeze on the pitches near the toilet blocks. Since the tent area was not too full over the weekend, we had loads of space.
The toilet block was fantastic and always clean. The playgrounds kept the children happy, and there were lots of kids around.
The shop stocked all the necessities and was open everyday and they take orders for you from the local bakery.
They have a games room, which we didn't use, but lots of others seemed to enjoy it.
There is a 24 hour Asda and Tesco not far from the campsite.
The staff organised a great Easter egg hunt and various other Easter competitions for the children.
This is one of the best camp sites I have been to, and we will be going back.

Forget roughing it, this is more like a five star hotel than a campsite. Just after the New Year we made our second visit to Dornafield, please believe all the rave reviews, they are true. The facilities are as good as you will ever find, what a treat the underfloor heating in the immaculate shower block during the sub zero temperature days whilst we were there.
Meeting the owners you will understand why it is so good, they have an unbounded enthusiasm for what they do and a huge desire to make you welcome and comfortable. When we left (4th Jan when they close until March) Alistair told me that during this closed period they were increasing the size of some pitches, installing solar panels and ripping out and replacing the toilets (which looked perfect to me!).
Make sure to vist the Two Mile Oak pub and the pub at Denbury, both serving real ales and excellent food as well as offering a similar welcome to Dornafield itself. Considering what it offers in terms of location and facilities, Dornafield is also very good value, we have paid much more for a lot less, we shall return soon!

We stayed at Dornafield over New Year 2008-2009 along with our friends - all together four adults and five children, 11 and under in two touring caravans.
It is very difficult to expand on the existing reviews of this superb site, all this can do is confirm their high standards continue into 2009.
The sites situation in a rural Devon valley is beautiful. We stayed in 'Blackrock Copse' where each pitch has its own drinking water tap, waste and and chemical disposal point and dustbin. At the time of our visit 'Butter Meadow' and the tent field were closed but the pitches throughout the site are all level (hard standing). All caravan pitches have electric hook-up, TV aerial points. The site also has free WIFI internet access. The areas around the pitches are manicured to perfection.
The toilet blocks are something else and undoubtedly the best we have ever seen with facilities that would grace a top hotel (free showers have under floor heating so your feet don't get cold on the tiles!)and always spotless with music (Radio2 while we were there!). There are washing up blocks too which are all equally spotless. The site is big into recycling with bins for every possible material.
Children are well catered for with extensive adventure playgrounds and a games room with pool table, table tennis, TV and some arcade games. There is a field at the top of the site where you can fly your kite and a dog exercising field next door. The warden will provide routes for local walks which we did and were excellent.
There is an extensive looking shop onsite although it was only open for milk & papers while we were there but is open fully in normal season. There are two pubs locally serving superb food - the Two Mile Oak (turn right out of gate for 1 mile) and the Union at Denbury (left out of gate for 3 miles). Newton Abbott is a 10min drive with all amenities you could want (pubs, shops, cinema, supermarkets etc). Torquay, Dartmouth, Totnes and the joys of Dartmoor itself are all within easy reach.
The staff make the site so welcoming, they are helpful and all live on-site. They even organised a New Years Eve party for all on the site which was excellent - just a pity more people did not turn up to appreciate their hard work.
There are NO drawbacks to the site - the small lane leading to it could lead to traffic issues but this is not Dornafields issue. We will try to re-book for later in the year and can't wait to go back.

We spent three nights at this lovely site and were not disappointed. The facilities were excellent, right down to a microwave for use by campers in the dishwash area and hairdryers in the spotless shower block, both very welcome. I agree with all of the positive comments on this forum. Dornafield is a very classy site and perfect for families.
The only drawback for us was the very narrow approach road which we were nervous about walking, particularly after dark. This isn't a fault of the site but if you want to get to the bus stop and/or the pub on the main road, it's a hairy experience getting there! Just something to bear in mind if you don't want to have to drive everywhere!

We stayed here for the 3rd time last August. The site is immaculate. The loos and showers are lovely, very very clean and plenty of them, loads of hot water . They are lovely and warm too which was very welcome in the middle of the night when it was tipping down. The laundy is great (especially when toddlers pee in the bed!). Shop is well stocked and we ordered papers, milk, rolls and croisssants everyday.
We stayed in the orchard which is great, very spacious but a bit wet and muddy getting the car in and out due to the downpours!
The staff are very friendly. There is a kids playground which we didn't use much as my kids are too young to go off on there own and I don't want to sit in the playground with them but there was plenty of space for the to play in the orchard.
My only problem with the place and it is not the fault of the owners in anyway is that twice when we have pitched in the orchard we have had a wasp problem and as my daughter is terrified of the things it can be a bit trying to say the least. However, when we stayed on the other pitches it wasn't a problem.

We came to this site for three nights over the August Bank Holiday weekend. We had booked which is just as well as the site was full for that weekend.
THis is a truly lovely campsite with a camping field and two massive other areas for caravans and some tents.
The play areas are great but hidden so dont stop at the fort, climb inside to find another level of play equipment at the top.
There is a tennis court and games room, all of which were in good condition and fun.
The loo blocks are amazing, they seem to be clean at whatever time of day you go there and so spacious.
I would highly recommend this site.Give it a go.

When you stay in a site this good, you almost want to keep it a secret!
I can't say too much other than;
1) Best showers / toilet facilities I've ever used on a site - warm, clean, piped Radio 2 discreetly on, fantastic!
2) Large fully serviced pitches have everything you need there on the pitch and enough room to spread out
3) Stunning location and position right by the fields in the valley - if you get the right side you get the cows up to the fence in the morning
4) Kids play / adventure / explorerer areas are stunningly good
5) Great site for kite flying with the kids :-)
6) Tourist info shop, courtyard, check in are superbly stocked and maintained. Fresh local bread, milk, even local chocolate can be ordered for the next morning
7) A picture postcard site.
Can I think of any improvements?
Erm. Not many!
Maybe an outdoor swimming pool for the summer.? This would make it a 20 out of 10 site though as it's a definite 10 out of 10 already.
Would I return. I already have and plan to for many a year if they keep it up.
You can book this site with confidence :-)
