We stayed at this site for a week and had a really good holiday. The weather was great which helped but what made the holiday great was this site. Firstly all the tent pitches are level and well spaced with bins close by so you don't have to carry your rubbish a long way. There are two play areas at each end of the site which are great for the kids, we have a one year old and a three year old who both loved going to them. There is a big wooden fortress and an assault course for older children. The on site shop is fairly small but has most essential items including disposable bbq's. The park has two modern heated toilet blocks which are always spotless and have the radio playing which was a nice touch. The only downside with this site if you want to go to a beach, the nearest being Torquay or Painton is you will have to drive. All in all we loved Dornafield and will definitely be returning.

Easily the best UK campsite I've stayed on. I agree with all the preceding comments. The reception is staffed until 5pm - after that you're given directions to the information room, where pitch availability is shown. You enter your details and settle up in the morning. Simple and effective. This site is so good that I can only think of two minor gripes: the push buttons in the showers, but as another reviewer said, this minimises water waste; and a little more space between the motorhome waste water dump grate and the adjacent fresh tap would be nice!

This was a beautiful site. The pitches were great. We were on a super pitch where you had everything you needed on your pitch. The pitches were hard standing and you could borrow the awning pegs free of charge, paying just a small deposit. The staff were friendly and the shop was well equipped. The toilet blocks were first class, the best we had ever seen. There were power showers that were nice and big. I always struggled to get my 4 year old son to have a shower until we went to Dornafield and he was nagging me to have a shower every morning. I did some washing whilst I was there. There was a spin dryer, washing machines, tumble dryer and an iron all beautifully kept. Be careful of the narrow lane approaching and leaving the site especially if you have a caravan. This site was worth every penny and a cut above the rest. It was very quiet and where we were based was almost too quiet for children. We will definitely be going back though. We had a problem with our brake lights on the caravan just as we were leaving. "Simon" one of the directors was so helpful and got his tool box out. He spent a long time helping us and soon got us on our way. I thoroughly recommend this site, fantastic!

Stayed 8 nights in tent while exploring Devon. First visit, completely impressed. We stayed in the "Orchard", about 16 pitches, some with electricity, set aside for tents (although one or two vans did stay). Our pitch was huge and grassy, very well kept by the owners who are hugely friendly and helpful, and keep a small but well-stocked shop which is open through the day and evening. Special mention must be given to the toilet and shower facilities which are modern, always spotlessly clean (and I mean really spotless), and with never a queue. It might be a small point, but the luxury toilet paper made a welcome difference to more usual offerings. Showers are free with copious amounts of water and temperature control. By a margin, the best site we have stayed at.

Wonderful ! I read all the reviews before booking and was not disappointed. We've just returned from 10 fantastic days. Yes the approaching lane is a little narrow so be warned but we managed to pass a horsebox whilst towing our van so it's possible to pass with care. The staff were very friendly and helpful and would use their internet connection to check on train times, cinema shedules etc. And helped us plan our stay. The wardens were often seen helping people with awning etc. The toilets were spotless and the power showers plentiful and immaculate. There were always plenty of staff tending to the overall maintenance of the site but without being obtrusive. Although no bar on site there were excellent fish and chips provided by a van every Monday and Friday and you could order fresh bread and croissants to go with your milk and daily paper from the site shop. Newton Abbott provided excellent shopping facilities nearby and there is so much to do in the area we didn't have enough time - no that we need an excuse to go back!

All we can do is reiterate the sentiments of the people below and say what a fantastically maintained, friendly, quality site. All facilities were excellent, the staff were very helpful, even moving us with awining stil attached to another pitch so we could stay longer! Large pitches tended to with every change of 'tenant'. Just brilliant!

Still as good as previously reported. The site was busy in mid June. Excellent loos, separate showers and very friendly, efficient service. Approach is narrow over the last mile so best to leave before 11 and arrive after noon if you are towing a large caravan.

This has to be the best site that we've found yet, its facilities and the friendliness of all concerned was a breath of fresh air. We would definitely return again and again! The only thing that we would do to better the place would be to convert one of the old buildings into a nice little bar and et voila perfection!

The best campsite we’ve stayed at so far! Really peaceful and relaxed atmosphere and very friendly and helpful staff. We were in the Orchard and the pitches are huge. Excellent facilities, very well maintained. There’s an ‘information room’ with plenty of leaflets, maps etc on the local area and attractions. Lovely to get fresh bread every morning. Will definitely return!

July 2005 I can only reiterate the good points posted by other members below. We visited 7 sites on our July holidays and this site was by far the best. An absolute cracker. The staff are so friendly, the sites spacious and toilets & showers clean (and the weather was great too). I would recommend this site to anyone visiting the area and I will certainly be returning to Dornafield on my next holiday.
