From reading the reviews we knew this site was going to be good and we were not disappointed. The Orchard is a lovely field for tents. Whilst some of the pitches are not completely flat the one we were in did not present a problem for us.

The showers are exceptional, though I do agree having a push button on them that didn't last long was a bit of a pain. Though I found if you kept pressing it before it ran out you didn't get the 'hot/cold' problem. The water did splash a bit into the 'dry area' so make sure to tuck your shoes under the seat.

Plenty of hanging space and room in the 'dry area' too. Only other 'niggle' was was having to come out of the showers into the toilets to dry your hair (though they are right next door so it is not like you have to walk across the camp site). The toilets had two private basins, two private toilet/basins as well as several toilets.

Washing up area had bowls and drainers, which was a nice touch, and a draining / drying area each side.

All the 'wet' areas had cloths so you could wipe around after yourself which meant everything stayed really clean all day.

As said, you do have to order things like bread the day before but supermarkets are not far away if you forget.

The staff were very friendly and helpful.

The surrounding area is beautiful and there is plenty to do.

The play areas were fantastic, (see if you can find the hidden bit in Butter Meadow).

This has to be one of the friendliest sites we have ever been to. Nothing is too much trouble for the sites owners/wardens.

The toilet and shower facilities were always clean. The launderette not only had machines that included the powder and fabric conditioner in the price but if like me you only want to rinse out a few items by hand the is a rinse and spin cycle which was very handy.

The washing up area had washing up bowls and drainers for use along with a microwave (payable) and a freezer for freezing your blocks. Great use if you are a tent camper.

Although we don't have young children we went for a walk and looked at the play area and there were a great range of play equipment for different ages. There is also a tennis court I believe you can book.

The shop has everything you need and you can pre-order you paper, milk, bread etc.

On the day of the royal wedding the owner held a little drinks reception which bought people together and which I thought was a lovely gesture.

A site well worth a visit. Thank you for a lovely time.

Had a fantastic 2 weeks here. Stayed in the orchard where the pitches were spacious but not perfectly flat but nothing major. The children had a great time playing in front of the tent & we felt it was safe.

Toilets, shower block, laundry, wash up areas were spotless. Toilets & showers had fresh flowers & radio 2 playing. Wash up area also had a freezer to freeze your own ice blocks(free of charge). Outside here was a herb garden to help yourself to. The washing machines were £3.60 & included persil & comfort.

The grounds were kept very tidy & the staff were so friendly.

At the shop ordering the croissants is a definite must.

Outside the site the two mile inn pub does great food & not too expensive. Would recommend booking as it gets quite busy.

I would highly recommend this site

Stayed at Dornafield for 11 nights on Butter Meadow. This is caravan luxury you cant get better than this, the amount of repeat visitors says it all.

From the moment we arrived at reception we were warmly welcomed, the son of the family checked us in what a charming man ! couldn't do enough for us.The Butter meadow site is lovely, really well laid out spacious pitches with water, waste and rubbish disposal on the pitch. The shower/toilet block was immaculate ( they have won awards !)piped music, hot water, quilted toilet paper.

The wardens are constantly working maintaining the site every where is immaculate.

Buttermeadow has the best dog walk 2 big fields with a track mown through so you don't get your feet wet in long grass ( how thoughtful ! )They even provide doggy poo bags at the gate to the field in case you forget yours. Our dog loved meeting all the different dogs around.

Lots to do and visit in the local area, Asda is close by in Newton Abott, pub at end of the road.It

Was our first visit to Devon and we will be back.

A perfect 5 star site well worth visiting.

Very helpful and friendly staff always able to help and visible on the site if there was a problem. There were wardens for each section of the site

Large well equipped pitches no fuss about what goes where. Hard standing area was clean.

Well maintained and beautiful grounds

Toilet blocks immaculate and plentiful also kitchen and laundry where clean.

Great playpark for kids inc older kids

Nice quiet location outside of main town

Good sized dog walking fields

When it rained hard standing remained dry and grass areas were not water logged

Small country road for access with touring but as people where aware not to much of a problem

Kids did not seem to be running around at 7am which was perfect for us who like a lie in

Really enjoyed this holiday very relaxing and friendly

This site and the facilities are great, especially if you have children. Baby facilities are really good.

The downside for us is the pitches are very tight if you have a twin axle caravan like us. Getting onto the pitch is tight as cars are parked at the end of pitches making turning tight. Getting out of the site there is a narrow lane which is walled which at one section is very tight and then access to the main road is down a narrow lane. I think the wardens were bringing caravans to pitches with their small tractor if too tight!

Again if you have older kids the site facilities are great. For us with a baby at times in the evening it was noisy - kids coming down past the caravan past 9pm on their bikes and playing ball. Girls sitting outside the toilet block so you have to step over them!

Would I stay here again - no as it's too tight with a twin axle. If we changed caravans then yes but only when our daughter is older and we don't need to get her to sleep at 8pm!

At the chance of repeating what has already been said about this site, it is fantastic. Top notch facilities, very clean and spacious with great showers - although the press button variety they stayed on for a long time. Washing up area was always left clean by the other campers, again with plenty of space and hot water.

We stayed on an EHU pitch in the Orchard. Plenty of room for our large family tent, but some of the other pitches are a little small and we'd have struggled to pitch on them, but we had arranged for a larger pitch when booking.

Campsite shop contains a good stock of food, camping materials and other products, reasonably priced too. Croissants, bread and newspapers are available, but have to be pre-ordered the day before. (The croissants come recommended).

We ate out in a local pub, The Monks Retreat, had a fantastic mixed grill and some local cider poured straight from the barrel. OH and DD were well looked after with their meals too.

So much to do in the local area, especially if you don't mind travelling up to an hour in the car. We've booked another week next year already as there is still so much to do in the area that we didn't get round to doing in the week just gone. Paignton Zoo recommended. Round Robin boat / bus / steam trip was fun - although it was just a standard bus that stopped to pick up other fare paying passengers rather than the open topped bus used on the flyer. The National Trust has many places to visit locally, we managed to visit two houses. Local beaches are mainly shingle. 'Blackpool Sands' is a shingle beach - felt a bit conned after paying £6 to park!

To conclude, the staff on this site are both friendly and helpful. The facilities are outstanding. All the campers we spoke to felt the same way, we made many good friends, who we'll be seeing next year as several of them have already booked for 2011, us included. (Don't know of a better way to recommend a site, other than to say we re-booked whilst stopping there).

We've just returned from a 5 night stay at Dornafield. We stayed in Blackrock Copse where each pitch is fully serviced and much quieter than Butter Meadow where there were more children and more pitches.

Very friendly owners and wardens who will park your van for you if needed. On site shop selling food essentials and some basic camping / caravanning accessories. Two play areas for children, one in each section.

An indoor games room with some fruit machines, dart board, table tennis and pool table. A generous dog walking area in Blackrock Copse where they even provide poo bags. A designated washing up area with several sinks, a microwave (coin operated) and a freezer for freezer blocks only.

The toilet and shower block was a good standard but the showers were those irritating ones which don't stay on and you have to keep pressing the button to start it again (then you get a short blast of cold before the warm comes back through). Coin operated hair drier.

Fish and chip van comes on a Friday night. Torquay worth a visit to walk around the marina - nice calm atmosphere there but not a great beach as it disappears at high tide. I didn't enjoy walking the lanes around Dornafield as they are very narrow with high hedges and I felt closed in.

The site clearly states no arrivals before 12 noon, yet incredibly some caravans were arriving prior to this time which would cause stale mate in the very narrow lanes approaching this site if another caravan was leaving. There is just enough room for a caravan and a car to pass if the car backs up to one of the pull ins.

Stayed for a long weekend break, 2 adults, 2 children, 2 dogs! Only issue we had, was didn't book for long enough.

Wonderful site, kept very clean, good layout. Stayed in the Orchard, plenty of room between pitches, slight slopes on some pitches, but nothing major.

Shower block kept warm, and clean. Slight issue with showers, have to keep pushing button often to avoid shower stopping and running from cold each time, but nothing drastic.

Covered washing up area, with freezer for ice packs. Site has a little shop, which stocks about everything you need, can even order papers and fresh bread for the next day.

All staff very friendly, and couldn't be more helpful. On a Friday night the local chip van parks up on site, for take away fish and chips.

Can't wait to go again.

This was our first visit to this site, and we loved it.

We booked a Blackrock Copse full service pitch and we were very satisfied. Electric, TV, water and waste disposal (grey and toilet) all to hand.

Toilet facilities, as mentioned before were spotless, but a quibble was the showers where you had to keep pressing a button to maintain the water supply. In one shower, when pressed, it resulted in cold water at first before warm came through every button press.

Other than that, the staff were very friendly and helpful, the fish and chip van served fresh and delicious fare (Tuesday and Friday), and you could pick your own herbs from the herb garden.

Would I visit again. Most definitely.
