We stayed on this site for 10 days and my husband, I, and our 2 teenagers could have stayed a lot longer! It is a wonderful, relaxing site. The staff were helpful. The toilet block was huge and very clean with cubicles for having a wash. The showers were power showers with a little cubicle to get undressed before getting in shower and they were free with very hot water. The laundry facilities were all very good with iron/ironing board etc. The reception/shop was well stocked with every thing you needed. There is a games room which our boys used in the evening, which had pool, darts, game machines etc. The wardens were really helpful and friendly. The only negative was the lane to the site was a bit narrow, but oncoming traffic always stopped for you so not a problem really. We highly recommend this site. It is the best we have been on and we will be going back again!

After a traumatic 9 days on a Cornish campsite I could have cried with happiness when we got to Dornafield. Driving down the lane to the site, you know you are going somewhere nice. This truly is a campsite for campers. We were located in The Orchard where just 14 tents share a beautiful field surrounded by stone walls and large trees. Some of these pitches had ehu but not all and the pitches themselves ranged from 4 berth tent size to enormous. Ours did slope towards the back but we had room for our Norfolk Lake and lots of room to sit outside too. Baby rabbits came out of the wall at night and played near us, the swallows swooped overhead at dusk and it was QUIET! These toilets/showers were the best I've seen, always clean and as much hot water as you wanted. We used the ones in Buttermeadow which were a 30 second stroll through the hedge. The washing up area in Buttermeadow was great, 4 sinks, with washing up bowls provided and cloths to wipe down too. There is also a recycling area for paper/cardboard and glass (the glass one was always full, perhaps due to the fact that the weather was gorgeous and lots of wine/beer were consumed!) The Buttermeadow children's adventure playground was well thought out and interesting - there was another in Blackrock copse. This area of the site was for tourers and also had a superb toilet block. The shop was well stocked, order your newspaper and delivery from the baker the day before and you can have croissants for breakfast and a french stick for lunch! Very friendly staff too. Great location, just 2 miles from Newton Abbott where there is a huge new Asda, Sainsbury's and a Tesco. Totnes is just 10 minutes drive away and we drove down to the beaches of the Hams in 40 minutes. You could be up on Dartmoor in 15/20 minutes too, enjoying a Devon cream tea at Widecombe in the Moor! This was how camping should be. In fact we booked for next Whit while we were there this summer! (on the grapevine there was talk around the site of the owners possibly putting wooden 'chalets' in The Orchard area - PLEASE don't - it's too special)

Best site we have visited so far, so much so we have booked for next year! We stayed in the orchard, which was great; the pitches are spacious and even with the few days of rain we had stayed fairly dry. It is ideal for families with small children as is quite enclosed but would benefit with a small play area for the little ones, (myself having 3 children under age 5) there are two play areas for the children but are not suitable for the little ones.
As mentioned by numerous reviews the facilities are excellent and VERY clean. There is even an herb garden next to the dish washing/recycling area in butter meadow so you can help yourself. The shop for its size is well stocked and carries a good selection of quality produce. There is a mobile fish and chip van which comes every Friday and Monday, it has a good selection of food, good portion sizes and tastes good.
A short drive away is two supermarkets the nearest being Asda and a little further away a Sainsbury’s which we tended to favour, (the fresh meat counter has local beef and the steaks were delicious!). We ate at the Two Mile Oak Inn one evening it was OK but wouldn’t visit again. We went to a few places in the area, The miniature pony centre at North Bovey this was an excellent day out. The Buckfast butterflies and Dartmoor otter sanctuary at Buckfastleigh a great spot to visit on a rainy day! And right next door the South Devon railway, a lovely trip through some beautiful scenery (book the railway first and get a combined ticket for the butterflies etc it works out cheaper!). Had a day at the sea side and went to Bigbury on Sea, bit of a drive, but was clean and tidy and had life guards on patrol, on the down side a little bit exposed to the elements. The café there was very good it sold local and organic produce and tried to supply “healthy” food, instead of the usual junk you get at the sea side. Also visited Prickly Ball Farm at East Ogwell just around the corner from Dornafield, however I wouldn’t visit again. I admire what they are doing but not how they are doing it.
A very good spot with lots of places to visit within easy driving distance. Highly Recommend!

Hi, I'm an 11 year old writing on my dads account. I just thought I'd write a comment telling you what I thought of this camping site. I went to Dornafield for 8 days with another family. If you scroll down on these comments, you will see a comment posted by someone called Raithfanz. These are the people we went away with and I totally agree with what they put. Everything was clean and the park was brilliant. In fact, it was voted best park in Britain ( in 1998!) The toilets were spotless and I really enjoyed my shower as the water was just right! I loved the shop because every morning I went there and got croissants and a newspaper which you can order. Also every Monday and Friday the fish and chip van comes! I would LOVE to go again By an 11 yr old on her Dad's account!

Excellent staff, great reception, play areas and the most powerful showers ever. However! Staying in Blackrock Copse we found our pitch (number 5) and several other pitches to be small and cramped. After erecting the awning there is very little or no room to relax in the sun (yes sun honest!) on the grassed area. Strangely, the shared waste bin, fresh and waste water points and chemical toilet disposal point are all located along the middle of every second grassed area in unattractive concrete housing. This needs to be seen to be believed. If you wish to stay here make sure the request a pitch with these 'facilities' located on the offside not the nearside of your van. You could also consider the Buttermeadow area which doesn't suffer this problem.

As a couple in our late twenties we really enjoyed this site, it is a little on the expensive side but is value for money as you get excellent facilities. The toilets and showers were almost spotless and the site had just what we needed. We can recommend the Court Farm Inn for food and enjoyed the 1 & 1/2 mile walk there for a bottle of wine or two. There is the Two Mile Oak Inn 1/2 a mile up the road which is also very good but Court Farm Inn was our personal favourite! You can get to all surrounding areas easily in a car and the bus stops by the Two Mile Oak Inn every half hour and takes you into Newton Abbot where you can get a further bus or train to most places. They have a fish and chip van on site every Monday and Friday evening and they come highly recommended. We stayed here for 10 nights and would go back without hesitation. A word or warning, make sure you write your name on your freezer blocks before you go as we had some of ours taken out of the freezer provided, I am sure this was a mistake as many people were putting theirs in a carrier bag from the local supermarket, an easy mistake to make I guess. Our only complaint was that for the last 4 nights we had a three families across the path from us that were friends and their children could be quite noisy and they stayed up past the 11 o'clock noise curfew chatting and drinking. We did mention this to the chap in reception on leaving and he was very sorry but I do understand there wasn't a lot he could do about it. We did hear these families saying the site was too quiet for them. Other than this the site was very peaceful and a joy to stay at.

What a great site! I have just returned home having spent five days at Dornafield, its just a shame it couldn't have been longer. Despite the poor weather early on in July, for the duration of our stay we had glorious sunshine. Our pitch was situated in the Orchard, which was ideal as it was close to the reception and shop and only a short walk from the shower block and toilets, which were immaculate at all times. Our two young children, six and nineteen months, loved the break and the Orchard was ideal for them as it provided them with loads of space to play in and there were no cars passing through to get to other areas of the site. Having wandered around the entire site the other areas did seem to have a more regimented pitch lay out but were all very generous and level pitches. This site is excellent and I would highly recommend it for groups with young children.

This is a wonderful site - the shower/toilet block was just as nice as it shows you in their brochure and spotlessly clean. I thought that the soft music played in there was a very nice idea.
We were given a pitch on Buttermeadow, which gave us plenty of room for our tent and was level. The area around us was very well kept and lite well at night, and there was a pleasant and cosy atmosphere.
The campsite is very well located to visit all of our favourite places around that area - Torquay, Dartmouth, Salcombe, Totnes to name a few.
The only downside was that we were reminded at 10:40 that we were supposed to be off the site for 11:00 by one of the owners who was sat on his mower ready to cut the grass.this took us by surprise as we had nearly packed up and had only the groundsheet to put away. We were off the pitch in time and thought the reminder a little unecessary. Otherwise, we had a terrific holiday and would certainly go there again.

What a great site! Clean at all times, staff were really friendly and helpful without being 'in your face' - they were just there working away quietly. Despite AWFUL weather and mud being walked everywhere the toilets and shower blocks were spotless. The only, very minor, criticism I can add is that on one occasion from a 7 night stay there was no loo roll in the ladies toilets at 10pm - I said it was minor! The pitches were sensibly spaced and despite the site being used by a large number of families with children (of which we were one) we never had any problems with noise or over boisterous kids - the two play areas were more than enough to keep even my two happy! The lane to the site is narrow but taken sensibly it is passable and the local drivers are courteous enough to give way to those towing so it wasn't a problem. Would definitely go again!

This is the best site we have stayed on for a number of reasons. Having negotiated the narrow road down to the site which I admit was a bit scary you arrive at the most scenic of sites The welcome is very friendly and all the amenities are pointed out before you go off to your assigned pitch. We were in Butter Meadow conveniently situated between the dog walk (bags provided) and the toilet block. These are loos and showers to die for . I particularly liked the idea of the loos and wash basins being accessed by a different entrance to the showers and what a brilliant idea to have radio playing at all times. (None of that deathly early morning silence when everyone is trying hard not to notice or be noticed whilst in the loos.) The provision of a microwave (coin operated) in the wash up room was a good idea too. Throughout our short stay all the staff were friendly and helpful and the site was kept in immaculate condition. We will certainly be going back for a longer stay.
