We stayed at Humble Bee Farm in one of their wigwams, and had a great couple of days. Humble Bee Farm is wonderful, so peaceful and with beautiful surroundings. Not a road or another building in view.
Not ideal if you want a local pub or shop to walk to but it suited us fine.
The wigwam was much smaller than we anticipated, really it just offers enough space to sleep in, and your living space is outdoors. This was fine, as we were lucky enough to have decent weather. There is a barbecue provided and a small picnic area for each wigwam.
The shower and toilet blocks were fine, small but clean. They were however a good 5 minute walk from the wigams (and the tent pitches, which were right next door to the wigwams). We didn't find this a problem but some might.
There was a small shop on site, which was open at limited times, and the owners seemed friendly enough.
The kids play area was good, safe, and close by so they could go and play without needing constant supervision. The best thing as far as our kids were concerned were the henhouses, from which the owner was happy for you to collect your own eggs, and cook them for breakfast! There were also pigs and ducks on the farm, and each morning the cows would come up from the fields, and be literally inches from your wigwam / tent.
You could book 'fire pits' for the evenings, and they would be delivered to your tent/wigwam complete with wood etc. We didn't have one, but it looked like fun.
If we visit Humble Bee again we'll camp rather than stay in a wigwam, but it was an experience!

We have just returned from an excellent weekend at Humble Bee Farm. The location is lovely, surrounded by rolling hills, which leads me to the scary 20% incline to the site! If driven sensibly this should not pose a problem, as our old car towed the caravan up the hill fine.
We had plenty of rain overnight but the pitch, while wet, was not too soggy.
The facilities consist of 2 unisex toilets with sinks, one of which is suitable for Disabled, and 3 shower rooms. I had to queue a couple of times for the loo so don't know what it would be like in Summer when the site is full. All hot water is free. The facilities were clean but could do with being expanded as the campers had a bit of a walk to get to them too. The washing up area is quite exposed.
The farm itself has some hens as an attraction and if the children don't let them out of the coops too early you are welcome to take any eggs that you find. The farmer told us that if they are out too early they lay in the hedges instead! My daughter had an excellent time wandering around with a hen tucked under her arm and thought it was wonderful!
Hunmanby is the closest village and has Chinese takeaway, Pizza & chippy, along with a Co-Op for any supplies.
All in all this is a great value for money site in a lovely location close to Scarborough, Brid & Filey.

We stayed in one of the fabulous wigwams on bank holiday weekend and it was great! Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed and given advice on how to best use the wigwam, then we headed off down the narrow lane, through the valley, past the caravans, past the tents and found our wigwam!
Once inside it was lovely, very basic but very, very clean, warm and comfy! They all have a fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster and a gas BBQ outside.
Downsides. We seemed to have quite alot of wasps! The site was quite muddy due to the weather and there was no mobile reception! All things beyond the owners control but here's the thing that can be worked on. The main toilet/shower block is back at the main entrance, a long walk from the wigwams but the portaloos half way up by the kids playground were clean and always had toilet roll!
Overall, the farm is absolutely lovely and I would definitely go again, maybe in the tent this time!
Top marks from me!

Lovely people greeted us and their pet Jack Russells. We could pitch where ever we wanted to and pitch sizes were generous. The facilities looked new and we were told even though there is only a portaloo in the field we stayed in ( other facilities were only 5 mins walk away) they were building a new shower and toilet block with laundry facilities too. Park and lots of animals for the children to look at and play in and we had a fire pit too which was brought to us with more than enough wood for 1 night!
We stayed for 4 nights and would definitely stay again, very relaxing and lovely site.
Went to Whitby and Scarborough head and Eden camp is not too far away either. It is a really nice place and we would recommend going to the area and the site!

We recently returned from a family camping trip, joined by my parents in their caravan and my brother and his family from Scotland. Our party consisted of 4 children and 6 adults
Despite flash floods during our stay, difficulty towing the caravan up the 20% incline hill and leaving the keys to the roof box back in our home town of Suffolk we all had a wonderful and relaxing break at Humble Bee Farm.
My children entertained themselves on the wooden play park, oollected fresh eggs from the hen pens, fed the ducks by the pond (needs supervision)and watched the pigs rolling in the mud.
My four year olds special memory is collecting an egg that was still warm and having egg and soldiers from it within 20mins!
The site was a perfect size to allow young children a certain amount of freedom to explore, yet remaining in the site of watchful parents.
The toilets and shower facilities were very clean and tidy and whole site was regularly cleaned.
I would thoroughly recommend this site to families looking for the perfect, non commercialised camping experience.
The only minor adjustments I would recommend for this site is a pull down changing unit in one of the shower facilities (it was difficult changing and showering my one year old) and that you only used the porta loos on the days they were emptied as they did get a bit smelly. I would like to say that the loos at the top of the site are except. Clean!
The site is very well managed and run by the owners of the Humble Bee Farm.
We plan to return again soon!

Let me begin by saying that we've toured sinced I was little and we've stayed in all sorts of sites from all singing and dancing ones to bare essentials of a field a tap, waste and couple of loos - we're by no means fussy.
The farm is huge but you stay either side of a cramped 'lane' seen empty behind the bench on their website. You're in a valley so when it rains it is very boggy even though the owner assured us that as it's chalk underneath it would dry out quickly - it didn't.
WEATHER DURING STAY - Mixed. Some very very wet days, some sunny. Not at the mercy of the owners I know, but mentioned to give you an idea of the weather conditions experienced which do affect the conditions on site.
APPROACH - The directions mention the top of a hill. It's actually a 20% hill that you can't get a run at due to a blind bend right at the bottom and it gets steeper as you go up. There were three break down vehicles attending cars that had come undone on it the day we arrived. Talking to other campers we discovered three of them had had to call out the breakdown when they'd arrived too. Perhaps this hill should be mentioned in 'how to find us'! The very kind lorry driver that towed our outfit up it to save waiting for the breakdown people said 'the hill is renowned for seeing off cars' although the owner said she'd never heard of anyone having trouble before.
THE POND - Lovely and we enjoyed spending time sitting on the bench watching the ducks. I couldn't help think that although there's a sign warning you that the pond is deep there is no fence so the young children attracted by all the animals need to be watched. There's a pig sty to the left of the pond which the children enjoyed and chicken's live across the lane behind the bench which the children can feed too. The pond separates the farm building/shop/main loos and showers from the camping area.
CHARLIE & SPOT - What characters! They come (with the chickens) to visit you each day. The chickens come in the awning if you leave the door open and the dogs come in the caravan - not a complaint it was quite comical. The jack russels ride the cleaning buggy each day too looking very pleased with themselves.
THE WALKS - We didn't do much walking but what we did on the farm was lovely especially as the evening sun lit the wild flowers bordering the crop fields - wish we'd been able to do more.
COWS- Didn't see any even from the vantage point at the top of the farm so perhaps there's been a change of farming since others stayed.
WILDLIFE - Plenty of birds/insects/hares around to watch including frogs and snails up on the crop fields.
TOILETS
The block located next to the farm house has two toilets - one disabled - and three showers which are all Unisex. The showers were always nice and hot and clean when we used them although queues inevitably formed as the site was full. I have to say though that the full sanitary bin was not emptied in the three days I visited one loo - didn't like to look after that!
PORTALOOS - The picture of the children's play area shows the washing up area behind it. What it conveniently doesn't show is the line of portaloos which although cleaned stank. Loos for Ewe can be seen to come and syphon out the contents regularly. Nice! Our children wouldn't use them although others did obviously to cut down on the trek to the main loos. We were woken each morning by the constant banging of the self closing doors on them and people used our pitch (quite rightly) to get to them and to empty their waste/loos as it was signed as a route! Perhaps this could be a fenced 'corridor' right of way as some people totally disregarded our privacy and walked right around our caravan or squeezed past our car between it and the caravan. Even worse is the chemical disposal point which is directly behind the fence of the play area - nice! It's also a toilet in a box so you have to lift your loo or waste water container to empty it. We noticed some couldn't manage and emptied all theirs at the motorhome disposal point (floor level) by the chicken house.
PLAY AREA - Fantastic and was a God send as there was no room for ball games although some children did set up a cricket match in a vacant pitch! Couldn't blame them really. There are three swings a picnic bench and a pole/runway/slide etc. And it's on bark. The children enjoyed it and most abided by the ten o'clock rule. However, some were on them before 6.30am and several pitches are directly adjacent. Obviously parents are responsible for the time their children are out playing.
WASHING MACHINES - I think there was only one with another spin dryer. Used it once and the clothes were immaculate - not always the case on some sites - but you can only use them -due to water pressure problems - between 11am and 5pm or between 10pm and 6am!
PITCH SIZE - We had a decent sized pitch but it was a thoroughfare for those emptying their loos/waste etc. I'm sure I saw somewhere space for 5 caravans well there were at least ten there and countless tents. We watched people struggle to have room to reverse their caravans onto pitches especially those opposite the play area. The play area fence takes it up to one side of the lane and the hitch of their caravans ran from the rear of their pitch to the lane. Tents a little further down were seen to have their guy lines attached to the fence due to lack of room. The lane was stone chipped although this became a mud bath farther down past the wigwams. The wigwams look nice and had bbq's outside and room to park. Imagine the picture on the website of the tents only with a car outside each one.
AREA - apart from the hill that made cars groan to get there the site is in a really good location. It's not far to Filey, Scarborough or Bridlington and Whitby not a bad run either. I've holidayed in the area many times and would recommend it as a holiday destination. There's a Morrison's supermarket not far away alongside a family pub/restaurant and McDonald's. Closer still are pubs and small shops but you wouldn't be able to walk there.
SHOP - Had the essentials though understandably pricey. Sweets and bits and bobs too for the children.
OWNERS - Lovely. Were very patient while we sorted out our car problems and always polite and pleasant and out and about on site each day either walking or on the cleaning buggy.
I didn't want to complain to the owners as they were really lovely and to be honest I don't want to spend my holidays complaining. I hope this has been constructive to those looking to visit the site and to the owners.
NEEDS
- More toilet/shower facilities.
- Clearly marked pitches all of an equal size with parking space. Left to individuals to decide what's their pitch and what's not will always lead to some taking advantage at the expense of others. (Didn't apply to us but did witness others making do with what was left)
- Fenced off walkway (on stone) to the portaloos, waste etc.
- Drainage work undertaking.
- A mention of the realilty of the hill on the route instructions.
- The chemical/waste displosal unit sinking before someone does their back in.
- Moving the chemical/waste away from such close proximity to the play area.
Could be a nice site when quiet and sunny with just a tent to haul.

Just returned from a bank holiday weekend at this lovely site. The owners were welcoming and showed us the way to our site and the facilities and explained the workings of the campsite. (This was really nice touch as others that we have stayed at, we have had to find our own way round)
The facilities were very clean although only 2 loo's and three showers, there was a queue on numerous occasions. There are portaloo's near the play area though if you are bursting! Others have commented on the trek to the facilities but it's only a 2 minute walk from the bottom of the field and it's in beautiful setting so you can see the hens and ducks wondering around. Theres also the bonus of a washer and dryer.
The pitches are a bit sloping and considering we went after weeks of rainfall the pitches were in pretty good condition and not too muddy.
The steep hill to get to the site is a challenge with a fully loaded car! In all a very nice campsite especially for those looking for a quiet escape away, we did find it a little too far away from the nearby towns.

After reading all the really good comments about Humble Bee Farm we couldn't wait to get there. The hill to reach the actual campsite is VERY LARGE and you have no run up to it! The road down to the campsite also had a few potholes on it, so beware! Our caravan pitch was not a bad size, but some of the pitches were very small. In fact, we watched one caravan arrive and watched him pull up in front of our caravan. There was no room for him to reverse the caravan into the spot allocated and the only thing that saved him was that he was lucky enough to have a motor mover. The weather was not fantastic whilst we were there and there was quite a muddy patch along the stretch of roadway. We were told that because the area was on chalky stone this normally cleared up. It didn't! The two proper toilets and three showers were a walk up the hill (all unisex) and the three toilets that were most accesible to all the caravans and tents were portable toilets like the ones that you see in festivals. These were not very nice and smelt and I dreaded using them. The skip to put the rubbish in was nearby to a touring caravan and was separated by a hedge. We were there a week and saw it emptied once. The skip was full to capacity. There is no signal for mobile phones, which I think is mentioned, so you have to walk right to the top of the hill to get a signal.
Now for the good points. The children's swings were very popular and people did adhere to the rule of quiet after 10.00 p.M. The site owners were very nice and the views from the top of the site were lovely - all countryside.

We decided to have a break from putting the tents up, and opted to stay in the 'wigwams' that they have on site - fantastic! Luxurious camping at its best!
The site is very small, situated on a working farm. It is in a valley, so you will get NO mobile phone signal - you have to drive to the top of the hill to be able to use your phone!
We werent in a tent, however, the pitches were VERY close together. Beware of this when booking.
The site is long and narrow - there is a track down the middle and tents at either side.
If you camp without EHU you will be situated the furthest away from the toilets etc.
The toilet block is situated at one end of the site, however there are portaloos that are emptied regularly a little closer. They are smelly though - we used these for night time trips only!
The showers were adequate, and clean depending on the time of day you went. They were very wet underfoot at busy times, and would benefit from a mop in each cubicle to allow people to clean up after themselves.
THere is a small selection of animals, and the children can get involved in looking at them/after them.
The two small dogs that live on site are very friendly and obviously used to people coming and going.
My only real complaint is that they have put water points on the pitches for the wigwams - we had people walking straight over our pitch to fill their water containers. This wasn't too bad once or twice, but it became tiresome after a while- it felt intrusive. The water points are attached to fences that are at 90deg angles to the back fence - I cannot understand why they weren't put on the other side to make them more accessible to everyone.
Overall we had a fantastic time, and would definitely stay at this site again. The wigwams are highly recommended by us!

We have just got back and what a wonderful site this is. Its small, has a great play area for the kids and the toilets and showers are the best we have ever used. Big rooms so you and your kids can get in and the showers are free and with a proper shower cubicle. Great. They well lit at night too.
They have 3 portable loos just by the play area and these get emptied 3 times a week but they do smell inside. Not the nicest of toilets to use. I walked up the the main ones. Which have been described as a treck in some reviews but if you are camped right on the bottom field will prob take you 5 mins at a slow walk to get to them.
The owners are really friendly and the shop stocks the essentials.
The animals are great and the 2 dogs really friendly.
The pitches are huge and dont seem to have a size restriction. There were tents of all shapes and sizes. We have a montanna 6 and extension and we still had room.
The only thing we would say is that we had cool showers as the hot water had run out and had to wash up in cold water a couple of times as again the hot water seemed to have run out.
But this didnt really bother us at all, we should have got there sooner.
Its close to Filey and Scarborough and we will definitely be going again.
