Just returned from a weekend at this site. It was well kept and clean, the farm setting with the chickens running free and the goats hanging around all fun for the children. The staff were very welcoming and helpful.
There were activities organised throughout Saturday for halloween, which was all good fun for the children and might have been better if the weather hadn't been as bad.
The only negative I would say about this site was that it was expensive (£32 a night, low season) for the facilities it has, which I think would be stretched when the campsite is full. The location is good for a weekend get away but you would need transport to go exploring.
|
Management response: Many thanks for the positive feedback in your review of Humble Bee Farm on UKCampsite.co.uk
We appreciate your comment about the tariff for the Halloween Weekend event, which included a family nature event with a professional ecologist, Halloween themed competitions, traditional Halloween games, hot dogs, story time and more, as well as your pitch, up to four guests, one car, electric hook-up and small awning.
Our campsite facilities are good – two shower blocks giving a total of six showers, nine toilets, four washing up sinks, baby change and more – and although we were busy over Halloween, we weren’t at capacity. Our facilities cater for a full site, which can be up to approx. 50 families.
You are right that you need transport to explore the area; as with most farm locations, we are a short drive from the nearest village, and this is one of the reasons why some of our regulars come here, to enjoy the peace and quiet of a rural location.
We do hope you will join us again as we have lots lined up for 2013, including our regular Halloween celebration. |

Stopped on this site for 3 nights ehu, cost about £66. 00, first thoughts on arrival that the staff could not do more for you. 10/10 for effort.
Camping area is on a bit of a slope on both sides of the road/dirt track that runs through the site did no pose a problem though.
Toilets are always clean and tidy but how on earth they cope in the high season with one main toilet block is beyond me two toilets and one shower for the mens, washing pot area has got a fridge freezer and a microwave.
Fire pits are great they get delivered to your tent cost about £8. 00 per night.
I've been to a lot better campsites for views I would not say they are great but ok its a working farm after all.
As people have said there is a steep hill getting to humble bee farm so be careful caravan owners.
There is a small kids play area to keep them happy, I would also say this is a young family site not a couples or mature persons site.
|
Management response: Many thanks for taking the time to put a review on UKCampsite.co.uk, and for all your positive comments.
Your comment about the lack of shower facilities is a bit mysterious, though. We have no less than two shower blocks on the site. We have one behind Reception, which includes three showers, two toilets, two hairdryers, a wash up area and laundry.
Our main shower block, which is near the children’s play area, has a three wash up sinks, a microwave and fridge/freezer facility (during busy times); a disabled access family shower including baby change, loo, hand basin, shower; the gents have two toilets, hand basins, urinals, shower, while the ladies has two lavatories, two make-up cubicles, two wash basins, and a shower. The block also includes a chemical disposal unit and is run in part by solar panels, helping make it as green as possible.
Therefore all we can assume is that you maybe found one shower block and used it, and were perhaps unaware of the second? We do hand out an info sheet to all guests on arrival, which clearly states we have two shower blocks on site. And we do say to people on arrival there are two shower blocks on site.
Regarding your comments about the views and the steep hill. We are in the Yorkshire Wolds and if you had a chance to partake in any of the farm walks, you would certainly have seen the views at their best. If the customer tells us they are bringing a tourer and an alternative route is asked for, we certainly advise of an alternative route.
Finally, your comment about it being a young family site is also a bit misleading. Although our target audience is families, we have numerous couples and mature visitors who come both out of season and in peak times, thereby indicating that we cater for most tastes, providing you are wanting a peaceful rural location that’s not too far from the coast. |

We booked a WigWam for two nights with our 7 year old Daughter, her friend and our dog Derek.
We had absolutely no problems on our arrival and yes there were rules within the site but they by no means had a negative effect on our stay.
What a brilliant, friendly, immaculate and fun place to stay. Our only complaint would be that we didn't stay longer!
I also was undecided as to whether or not I should leave a review as don't want to find the place fully booked next year!
A special thank you to Molly the Jack Russell who was an absolute delight and made Derek a very happy little puppy when she visited him each day
We would recommend the WigWams to everyone - warm & cosy with everything you need -
We usually camp with the tent but this was a real treat and the extras available like fairy lights, bunting and fire pit made the stay just that little bit more special for our Daughter.
Thanks to all the staff for a wonderful memory

We had some initial disappointment with Humble Bee Farm, as we'd booked ages ago and they hadn't accommodated our request to be next to our friends - eventually we resolved this by three tents sharing two pitches.
After that, everything was great. It's a lovely site with spotless and well maintained washblocks; friendly and helpful staff, good sized pitches, a good little playground and wonderful guided nature walks from the site.
There are more rules and regulations than I have ever seen at any campsite which feels a little strange, but then it means that the site is very peaceful, without kids shouting and screaming from the play area late at night.
We had a couple of lovely days down at Filey beach and drove into York to visit the Railway Museum.
I would recommend this site and would happily return here.

We were greeted with a lovely warm welcome and was told the rules and where to find our pitch and facilities. As we drove through the site it looks really nice with a pond and chickens running free. The site is in a straight line (a road with pitches on either side) with the small playground and facility block nearer the top of the site with further shower and toilet facilities available back at the reception area.
The playground is a small area with wooden ramps, fireman pole, slide and 3 swings. On arrival we were informed it was shut down at 9pm. But we never saw anyone actually policing the shut down and the play park is accessible all the time.
Unfortunately for us, our pitch was straight across from the playground. The pitch was smaller than a lot of them and was on a slope with a few potholes. We pitched side on because of the slope, and was glad in the end because we would have been pitched looking at the playground which got quite busy.
The playground proved to be very popular and noisy, with kids singing at the top of the voice and at one point throwing the bark chippings at each other. We fetched our kid out as it got so rowdy and nobody was watching their children. The playground activity carried on till after 9. Unfortunately, we were treated to a very loud singalong/shoutalong from some of the wigwam patrons until 11 on one night. The site was reasonably quiet after 11 with just the usual chit chatter noise expected.
We were close to the facilities and the site was well lit at night with lights on the EHU points, which was great for us as it lit up our sleeping area.
There was 3 toilets, 2 changing areas with sink and 1 shower in the ladies. I had to queue for the shower and was disappointed as it was a push button with no temperature control. Unfortunately for me, half way through my shower, no water would come out. I could hear all the taps being used in the sink areas, and after giving up after 5 minutes and getting dressed, I tried the shower (as I was going to report it as a fault) and it worked. I concluded the block can't cope with the amount of water required at peak times.
There is 3 washing up sinks, but it is very crowded in there all in use. I did have to wait for quite a while one morning for a sink. There's a free microwave and fridge freezer in the wash up area.
In all, I really wanted to like Humble Bee as it promised a lovely family site but unfortunately with us being so near to the playground and some of the campers having little respect with noise control (which could have been policed a bit better), we just felt it didn't live up to all it could have been for us.

A little dubious about leaving such a good review as want to keep this place a secret but I really cant say anything bad about it.
Gorgeous location tucked away in its own valley, no phone/3g or tv reception but all the better for us.
We were on a huge pitch with plenty of space for the kids to play. Toilets and showers always immaculate.
Owners lovely and always about if you needed anything. Fire pits were great you had to order them in the day then they got delived to your pitch in the evening.
Small shop in reception for essentials plus toys for the kids. My boys loved the chickens wandering around and the 3 jack russel farm dogs.
We will defo be back when visiting this part of the country again.

Much has already been said about this site already. We went in the last week of July and went with 2 children 9 and 5 years old. The site at time was full to capacity with up to 40 tents plus pods fortunately we managed to time our visits to showers to early evening to avoid the busy times.
As the site is very linear we did experience some noise from people going to the toilets during the night including myself being woken at 5am by a lad sprinting to the loos up the road which is close to the pitches.
The pitches are pretty close to each other with limited separation. On a more positive side the toilets and showers were kept pretty clean considering the traffic they experienced.
Anyone staying at the site is recommended to get away from the site itself and enjoy the surrounding rolling hills.

Just had a super week at Humble Bee. One of the best sites we have ever used. Toilets and showers were spotless. There is a great play area for the children and although we had no children in our party it didn't spoil our enjoyment of the site.
If you need mobile phones and television this site is not for you, if you want a peaceful rural site on a working farm then look no further.
Friendly welcome when we arrived rather later than we would have liked after a long journey from Oxfordshire which set the tone for the rest of the week.
Will not hesitate to use or recommend this site to anyone.

We are just back from our second stay at Humble Bee Farm and this time took friends for their first visit. Our party consisted of 4 Adults and 4 Children (2 aged 6 and 2 aged 3).
I don't want to advertise the fact as we want to keep the site a secret but it was absolutely fantastic once more. We have stayed at larger sites but you cannot beat this one for its warmth of welcome, cleanliness, peacefulness and also the friendliness of fellow campers.
The site is situated in a valley with wonderful views and a collection of different animals on the farm for the children to look at.
Facilities include a small park and shop and the toilets and showering facilities are spotless with no additional charges.

We arrived on Wednesday with another family. I was slightly sceptical as we had to sign a disclaimer for being a 'group' despite us being two families with children aged 11, 12, 7 & 4! Hardly a group!
We were given pitches 9 & 10 owing to the length of our vans (27 ft). The pitches were huge and very close to the park/shower block.
Owing to the Easter break the site was busy, the ladies only has one shower and three loos plus 2 cubicles with sinks. I only had to wait for a loo once and this wasn't long.
There was some mess in the block but this wasn't excessive as the weather was hit and miss. I have no idea when they were cleaned as I didn't see anyone. Some sites we have visited close for cleaning.
The water was not hot but warmer than warm. My real gripes has to be the washing up water was tepid at best (I saw no signs warning of this as mentioned previously) and the loo/shower block was cold.
We normally shower at night but despite it having a large radiator, it wasn't on and this meant it being too cold to shower comfortably. We had to shower in the morning, this wasn't an issue as we didn't queue!
The kids loved seeing the animals up close as we are townies. The sheep were in a field at the back of our van and were really loud. We got used to it (it is their home after all!)
The staff laid on an Easter Egg hunt and an egg decorating competition which we felt could have been organised a bit better (maybe in age groups rather than a free for all as we saw a few entries by parents) one of ours won so we didn't mind.
We liked the fact that there was no mobile or internet signal, it makes for quality time.
We used the park and ride into Scarborough as it was cheaper than parking.
We went to the award winning fish shop in Seamer as its only 3 miles away.
We would definitely go back.
