On the recommendations of friends we visited this site in early May and were so impressed by the friendly approach of the owners and presentation of the site and maintenance of the facilities we booked to return again at the end of May.
Although close to A19 there is no noise but offers good access to Thirsk and Northallerton. The only issue with the site and nearby village of Knayton is the lack of a shop, to replenish basic items such as milk etc.
We will return to this site.

Fantastic site. The owners and son very friendly and couldn't do enough for us, nothing too much trouble.
Some of the best facilities on any site we have seen, top class pitches each pitch is big enough for two units with plenty of space between each one with hook up, drinking water, none drinking water, clean water waste, even tv ariel sockets. Well maintained and clean toilets and shower building. If you have any grumbles about this site you need to see a doctor.
We will definitely be staying here again. Nearby pub with great value meals and drinks. Fantastic views and country side you will not be disappointed.
Thirsk great place to visit plenty shops, pubs etc. Thanks for great stay on your top class site.

The perfect site.
When we arrived Pat came out to greet us in the pouring rain with a welcome smile and a cheery greeting. Despite the weather she walked us (in the car) down to our pitch and assisted with positioning and connections to all services.
We then set about putting up the awning in the teeth of a Yorkshire spring evening !
The site is perfectly located in a beautiful Yorkshire valley close to virtually all the tourist attractions of North Yorkshire.
Toilet/laundry block is spotlessly clean and toasty warm. Appreciated in this weather.
Our 'super pitch' has electricity, tv aerial point, cold water tap, grey water drain and your own personal chemical emptying point.
We will definitely come back - in better weather!

Just spent a few days at this campsite.
The site is situated just outside of the small village of Knayton, just off the A19.
Watch out for the road to the site though, it's single track. We were fortunate enough not to meet anything either arriving or leaving, I could imagine it been rather tight to pass if you did meet a caravan or tractor/trailer, even with the passing places.
The site is accessed by a controlled electronic gate, for which you are given a key fob, so it is very secure.
You are met and taken to your pitch by the owner on her bicycle, everything explained about services and facilities.
Pitches are vast, no issue with encroachment from neighbours. These are pea gravel and come fully serviced.
The toilet block & showers are immaculate and have under floor heating - a real bonus when camping in February.
4 toilets to the ladies and 3 showers, free to use and have good pressure.
Ladies has a hair dryer, which is also free.
There are laundry facilities 1 washing machine & 1 dryer.
The site is well maintained, the farmer was busy tending the grass as soon as the snow had melted.
Good facilities for children, especially younger ones, although my 10yr old enjoyed playing football on the grassed area, which is a nice change as many sites do not allow ball games.
Is is to be recommended, possibly more for couples or younger families, I say this as changes are made for children older than 10 years, which can add up if you have more than a couple and stay at peak times.
Great place to relax. Good walking area.

The site very easy to get to, only a few miles from the A19 but a world away from the traffic.
We received a very warm welcome from the owners, we were given some information about the site including dog walks etc. And were shown to our pitch, the owner even offered to take our caravan and park it for us if we wanted him to.
All the pitches are super pitches and ours was by far the biggest we have ever stayed on. The site is very peaceful and has lovely views on all sides.
We didn't see a shop but spotted a pub about 1 & a half miles away, although we didn't go in.
The facilities are new and we kept spotless as is the rest of the site.
I would highly recommend this site if you are looking for peace and quiet and we will be returning again.

Just got back from 3 nights at Hillside, our second visit of this year. The ground was soaking wet with all the recent rain but it was no problem as all the pitches are pea gravel hard standings.
The site has been extended since our last visit and now has an additional 15 pitches which are in the field behind where the children, s play area is sited. They are the same format as the original pitches ie have water, 16 amp electric, TV ariel, waste water on a bollard which provides light once darkness falls.
The original pitches are large and easily house my twin axle caravan, awning & 4 X 4 and the new pitches are absolutely huge. They could have placed 30 pitches in the field easily. At present it is very open and looks a little exposed but they have planted shrubs around the exterior limits of the field and also some down the centre so it will look really nice in the years to come. My only concern would be; are the toilet block facilities sufficient to cope in the summer months when the site gets busy.
We had a really nice weekend and the site was up to its' usual high standard.

What a little gem and right on our doorstep. 30 minutes down the road and we could have been anywhere.
We stayed here for two nights with two other families and had a great time. We were told that they put is where they did so that the kids could have easy access to the play park and so that we had them in view all the time.
The play park was great and the kids loved it although it was bit muddy but the kids weren't complaining.
The pitches were great although one of them was a little bit on a slope which meant that chocks had to be used to get the caravan level but not a problem.
Fully serviced complete with toilet waste as well which was fantastic. Even had an ariel point.
Very well thought out and lots of time, effort and money gone into making this a great site.
We had a walk round to the other side of the site where they are still in the process of putting in more pitches and these looked great and even bigger than the ones we were on.
Pond was lovely as well and had a lovely little walk round with my daughter explaining about how the frogs, fish and fairies use and hide in and around it.
Toilet block was lovely and clean and heated. Great for them chilly October mornings. The showers were good and free which is always a bonus and also had a hairdryer, which again was free. Not sure about the mens block never asked my husband.
We had a run into Thirsk which is only 10 minutes away and stopped off at the pub in Knayton on the way back for some tea. Very friendly service, great pint and great food. Dog friendly as well.
Will be back and would definitely recommend but don't want to as it needs to be kept secret so it doesn't get too big and lose its charm.

Just come back from a weekend at Hillside, its only 30 miles from where we live, so it is a handy 'getaway for the weekend site'. We were really impressed with it. There is an adjacent CL site which we had been to many years ago but the new site is very good. All pitches are fully serviced including toilet emptying points, TV connection, 16 amp mains connection, fresh water, and grey water drains all housed in very neat bollard. A lot of money, as well as careful thought has gone into this site. Highly recommended

Just spent 19 nights at this site and enjoyed every minute of our stay. Owners sre extremely welcoming, helpful and pleasant. The site was very clean, toilet block immaculate and there was an information hut that held tons of brochures, magazines DVDs and even kids toys. The fully serviced pitch was excellent and I relly liked the chemical toilet disposal point almost all pitches had. The kids play area was equiped with swings and a climbing frame/slide. The area was spacious and was well kept.
This is a nice quiet site that is undergoing expansion, with another 15 pitches being added which will be open shortly. There is a pond which is in the area undergoing work which is unfenced, so would recommend that small children are accompanied when near thia area. The dog and Gun Pub a mile down the road in Knayton was nice and the food was excellent. Did we enjoy our holiday? Too right we did and we will be back.

This is how it should be done! A really lovely site set in beautiful surroundings with spotless, well maintained facilities and fantastic owners.
We had booked three nights, but on arrival immediately extended to four. Hillside is easily reached from the A19, along a single track tarmac road (with passing places) from the village of Knayton near Thirsk.
Chris & Pat welcome dogs and provide maps of walks around the surrounding fields for exercising. They also kindly loaned me their OS maps of the area for when we ventured further afield. The countryside all around is stunningly beautiful, and easy to access by car, bike or on foot.
I spent a very interesting couple of hours at the James Herriot Museum in nearby Thirsk - a must if you are a fan of the books, films or TV series! Our visit coincided with the weekly local food market in the cobbled square. I was in heaven!
Regarding the facilities at Hillside, I can do no more than endorse all of the previous reviewers positive comments. Spotless, well maintained & 5 star!
More pitches around the pond are being added and work seems to be well under way on this phase. I just hope Hillside doesn't get too big and lose some of it's many charms! We hope to be back very soon.
