Booked this site as part of our main holiday up to Northumberland. Just being off the A1 it seemed perfect.
As per the other reviews it is a lovely site & the owners are always available & very helpful. The Dog & Gun is highly recommended, as is a drive through the North Yorkshire Moors to Whitby via Pickering & Goathland (aka Aidensfield in TV's Heartbeat). Fantastic scenery & Whitby is lovely for a few hours mulling around the shops, some fish & chips before driving back. (45minutes?).
We thought it an excellent start to our holiday & would highly recommend it if you are looking for a quiet friendly site with good/clean toilet facilities.

Great site, about 4 miles from Thirsk and 5 from Northallerton. The owners are very helpful and friendly, nothing too much trouble.
We stayed one night after our caravan was delivered directly to the site. The owners took delivery in our absence and pitched it for us on a super pitch, EHU, water, drainage and T.V ariel point. Toilet block/ pot wash area spotless.
There were 4 of us, two adults and two children although one being 14 was extra. £26 per night wasn't too expensive considering the facilities and had we erected the awning that would have increased by £2.50.
Lovely grounds and walks through the owners fields and around the site which has a large pond teeming with wildlife. The play area has been added to since our visit last year which is far enough away for the adults not to be disturbed but close enough for the most anxious parents to remain calm.
A 10:30 noise curfew was not needed as everything was quiet by 9pm.
The only down side is no site shop but that's a small negative on a wonderful campsite. We will definitely be returning on a regular basis and have booked for our summer hols in August.

Just returned from the most relaxing weekend ever at Hillside.
The site has been designed with quality not quantity in mind. The pitches are large and fully serviced. We had loads of room despite the Caravan Park being fully booked. Lots of children on site but as the play area is away from the vans we hardly noticed them. (We were on one of the pitches nearest the play area)
The ladies toilet block was very clean and heated. It was cleaned regularly but there were times when the shower mop left an odour. Lots of ladies did not rinse the mop. With the number of ladies using the block I'm not surprised. We never had to wait.
A meal at the Dog and Gun is a must. We went for Sunday lunch. Fantastic locally sourced food. We booked to be sure of a table.
What can I say about the owners? They were there when we needed help or advice, they always had time for a smile and a chat despite working very hard long hours to ensure our stay was good. Security is excellent.
We shall be returning.

Only spent one night here as the rest of the weekend was booked - but very impressed!
Very friendly welcome from the owner who showed us to the pitch and explained everything.
Pitches are large and ours had waste water, satellite feed, electric hook up and water supply. The site is arranged very well nad has lovely countryside views. Very peaceful and tranquil.
The play park is brilliant and is in sight of the pitches with a large grass area in front for ball games. Very safe for children as there is not much traffic around the site and you can pretty much see where they are.
Toilet block is spotless and cleaned throughout the day - even at 10pm!
The only draw back for some people might be (and it was a plus for us!) is that it is quite isolated, down a farm lane, so you would have to drive to the shops etc, but we feel this is part of its charm!
Overall, very impressed and booked to go back in a couple of weeks!

Don't want to say too much about this site as its brill. Fab pitches with electric, water, tv point and for chemical and dirty water. All Hard standing on pea gravel and level. Surrounded by the hills around the Thirsk area.
Thirsk not far has all that you would need, Tesco, Coop, take aways and swimming pool.
Staff are really nice, showers and toilets better than some caravan club sites, lovely clean.
Playground ok (that's the first and last ok) son thought it could do with more but he is fussy with parks so take that with a pinch of salt.
Lovely site will go back, booking soon.

This is a real hidden gem - down a narrow country lane just off the A19, 4 miles north of Thirsk. The road has ample passing places, so there isn't really a worry and you do feel you are being dragged into the 'real' countryside and away from the stresses on modern life as you bounce the mile or so to the site.
Once there, you are hit by a feeling of space; there are only 35 pitches in a five acre field. You also get the impression of being quite high up, whilst being semi-circled by the loftier, forest clad banks of the North York Moors to the East and North.
The site itself is comprised purely of super-pitches, hence the rather steep fees (£21 in mid-season), but the facilities are excellent - toilet block being spotless and *heated*. The owners are friendly and can be seen out and about working on the farm and moving caravans to and fro - the site is also a certified storage location.
The nearest pub is about a mile walk back down the road, whilst the nearest shop is 4 miles away in Thirsk, so maybe an idea not to forget anything. The site does not have a shop - although essentials such as milk and eggs you can probably purchase from the owners.
All in a all a lovely site and one which has a really special atmosphere of calm and seclusion. Will be back.

Stayed here one night whilst visiting Autogas in Thirsk, absolutely brilliant people and a very well kept site with heated showers and wonderful scenery. We will be going back as it is so peaceful and quiet. The owners were very helpful, there is a pub in the village which we did not visit this time but it has a good reputation so we will try it on our next visit.
If you are looking for 5 star facilities with peace and quiet in a lovely part of Yorkshire we wholly recommend this site.

Cracking little site, not too big and not too small. Lovely peaceful setting with a nice outlook. The facilities on this site are first class, well maintained and very clean.
Huge play field for the kids with the usual swings, slide, basketball hoop etc. The site could possibly benefit from a small shop for any forgotten essentials, otherwise its a 4 mile drive to Thirsk which has all the usual suspects in which to stock up.
Lovely little pub down the lane from the site (approx 2 miles) could do with being a little closer but you cant have everthing. All in all Hillside is well worth a visit if your looking for somewhere in this area, we'll definitely be going back.

My wife and I have just returned from a lovely 3 night break at this lovely site, everything was perfect for us, so clean and well kept, the toilets and showers were really clean at all times of the day and night, excellent, the owners were really friendly and chatty. The only thing I would think would add to this wonderful site would be maybe somehow being able to supply milk, eggs and a few other forgotten items as there isn't a local shop nearby but having said that we didn't run out of anything. We shall definitely be returning soon with our young grandson in tow, I'm sure he will enjoy the play area without having to be too restricted.
