Had a friendly welcome on arrival Friday of the May day Bank Hol weekend. Shown to pitch which was a large. Plenty of room for tent, trailer and car. Plenty of showers and toilets all kept clean, even though I must admit on the friday evenings the mens urinals did not smell very nice as you walked past. The shop stayed open later than sign said to allow later arrivals to use it if needed, papers can be ordered with a small charge to cover fuel costs.
My son and his friend went to the clubhouse for food and enjoyed the burger and chips, the only problem was that they were meant to do takeaway as per info document but when we asked they said that they do not. On the Saturday they both went into the lake to go swimming which they enjoyed but unfortunately the weather changed so were unable to go back in over the rest of the weekend.
We had a very relaxing stay and will be returning back in the future.

This site turned out to be much nicer than we had thought from the reviews. We were with a rally but on the main site with use of all facilities. The fields are all flat and surround a very large lake with water sports, swimming and fishing. There is a large toilet block which was spotlessly clean while we were there. The pitches are spacious and well laid out, most with hookup. The shop was not very well stocked but it is the end of the season. They serve fresh croissants to die for! Reception was manned by two of the most friendly and helpful staff we have come across. We were also allowed to stay on till four on the Sunday with no charge if no one was booked on our pitch. There is a small children's play area and a club house serving food.

Visited this site on the recommendation of a friend for a quick weekend break and glad we did. (Mum, Dad, 15yr daughter and 12 yr son) Finding it: Easy, typed the postcode into the TomTom but as we got near just followed the signs. Check in: Had not booked but was friendly, helpful and quick. Perhaps reception was a little over staffed with all the ladies wanting to comment but everything well explained, seemed very keen telling us not to burn wood. Pitch: Massive, we were put in the touring/rally field and had loads of room (told to camp 6m away from our neighbours). Water points and rubbish areas well and generously placed. Fairly level but as we could position the tent either way managed fine. Grass had been mowed and the views were fine with trees and hedgerow all around. Toilets Showers: Clean but fairly basic although for men there are also separate urinals if you are in a hurry. Everything said before still applies for the showers and there really is no way of avoiding getting you clothes wet if you intend to change after a shower. Every time we went for a shower there was always hot water and everything was clean. Washing Up: Loads of sinks and never had to queue and water was always hot, although sink 1 leaks onto your leg when you pull the plug out! Shop: Great, a choice of hot croissant, Pain au raisin, Pain au chocolat or Pasty, sausage rolls or baguette. Stocked most essentials and although a little pricey was great. Get chatting to the owner and he is a real mine of info and a character. Things to do: Water sports here are great, we went as a family on the Ringo rides around the lake behind a speedboat and had so much fun we booked the kids in again for the next day (£5 per person) but we could have gone jet skiing, wind surfing or just swimming. (The kids did from the lake banks). If you are into fishing then this is the place, also great walks around the lakes, Bike rides are easy (we did two) and then on the Sunday every 4th or 2nd week there is banger and hot rod racing opposite (We cycled but walking would be 5mins). Facilities: The club house did look good and very new with benches and seats outside and modern inside with lake views but we did not try it so can't comment on the prices. There did seem to be a lot of groups of campers so family weekends could be good. Noise: Although they say it is a family site we were pitched opposite two tents with five lads who thought that we all wanted to share there, farts, burps and swearing till 02:00 on one occasion. Also some late arrivals decided that noise was not a problem and chose to share their music and stories with the whole site. But on the whole it was quite after 10:30 and the offenders did get a severe telling off from the quite severe receptionist in the morning. Downs: The touring - rally field is too far from the loos and if you wake up after a few beers or some wine it seems like miles, they really do need a second toilet block. The staff (apart from the shop) all seem to be new at running a campsite and I think are are all retired couples just getting to grips with it and can sometimes seem over officious. Groups and late arrivals could be noisy. Ups: Well run Well kept Great shop Clean Big pitches Great on site facilities Summary This site is almost perfect and we will be back as a family soon

We camped as a group of four young families and found the site very good. It was the day after the floods of Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire but the site was high enough to continue operations. The site effectively had three linked fields with well-drained land (even after floods) with mixture of electric and non-electric pitches, therefore caravans were in same fields as tents, usually around the edges of the fields. The check-in was easy and staff friendly. Toilet and shower block were fine although a fair walk from the extremities from some pitches. Access easy and the site easy to find from the A40. We didn't use the clubhouse and the water-sports were not available due to the high flood water. Great cycling areas around the various lakes so take a bike. Site very clean and good value. Sadly group booking for more than four pitches are NOT ACCEPTED so like us, if you want a mini rally, you'll have to book separately and risk being in separate areas of the campsite. Would recommend for a 2-3 night stay. Dogs welcome. On site shop small but stocked most essentials. Extension lead hook-ups available for hire.

This is a really nice site that is set in to what might very well be a perfect location. The facilities are very good with a well stocked shop that sells freshly baked baguettes in the mornings, very clean toilets/showers and a good (or so we were told as we never visited it) clubhouse. There are also water sports available on the nearby lake.
All this adds up to a really good site which regrettably due to the staff we will never be paying a visit to again! Right from the moment of walking in to reception they were unreceptive, and seemed to almost enjoy telling me there were too many people in our party, even though we had booked weeks in advance and they had taken full payment up front!
After finally being taken to our allocated pitch we were ordered & not asked to pitch our tent here, only here and only facing in a certain direction(it would seem the wind did not matter!) From here on in the staffs/wardens attitude was disappointingly hostile and unwelcoming.
Unfortunately a very nice site with great facilities set in a beautiful lakeside location which would benefit Tremendously from some form of customer service training!

We visited Hardwick Parks at the end of May 2007. First impressions were that this is not a family run site, although the welcome was friendly enough. Three staff in the office and more outside - not exactly sure what they were doing! The pitches are very good, plenty of space for even the biggest unit. Our Vango Diablo 600 and Renault Scenic had about 3 or 4 metres all around. Modern electric hook up facilities and well kept grass. Toilets were OK, cleaned daily, although they always seemed to be left dirty when I went in during the evening. Showers were an issue. There is a 12 inch space between the door and the shower curtain - I had to shelter in the space to avoid the initial spurt of freezing cold water - once the shower was running it was too hot! 3 hooks on which to place your towel, wash bag, clean clothes and dirty clothes - stuff got wet! The other problem was the condition of the roadway around the toilet and reception block. There were lots of dirty puddles caused by worn tarmac and concrete.

We were part of a large group of 16 families visiting for a 50th birthday get-together. PROBLEMS - The big problem for us, was that having had someone spend months planning and booking the weekend, and have the site accept the booking on the basis of us all being together, we were told at the very last minute that we could not camp together and were split up right across this large site. Since accepting the booking the site's policy had changed so no more than 5 tents could pitch together in a group! This obviously did not fit with our plans and caused some problems for us. The owners were hostile to our request for flexibility and we were made to feel distinctly unwelcome! We were also not impressed with the high charge for us to launch our own canoe on the lake. We went down to the Thames 5 mins away for free! POSITIVES - This large site offered good, clean showers and a very well stocked shop with fresh croissants in the morning. The lake and watersports base amused the children all weekend with jet-bike rides and ringo trips (for a cost!).There was a playground and plenty of room to play by the tents. Had we not been a large group we would probably have had a very different experience as we may not have had the friction with the owners.

We stayed here twice in July 2006, and had a nice time on both occasions - despite England plummeting out of the World Cup on first Saturday afternoon.
This is a quiet, modest campsite, with generous pitches and a pleasant, reasonably-priced shop. There wasn't a fantastic amount for the kids (8, 8 and 10) to do - few facilities - but we used the reservior for swimming, and they all seemed happy enough.
It's nearby for us, so we will almost certainly go again - the biggest factor is that the pitches fit our Hartford XXL comfortably.

Very nice site. The only thing that put me off a little was when they stepped out the size of your pitch. Shop excellently stocked. Showers very good and clean. Plenty of play area for children and all in all we had a lovely visit. The tents and caravans are on separate fields, now we are owners of a tourer, we prefer to be able to pitch together with tents. However, the site is very well kept and good value.

Once again, fantastic long weekend at this site. We're a group of around 16 and we make a trip to this site annually. The only small slight suggestion I would say to the owners is to have shelves in the showers. Clubhouse is closed this year, but re-opening next year, so we look forward to that. But it's no longer going to be floating on the water. Expect it's for health & safety or insurances reasons which is a shame, because that was really something different. So all we need to do now is organise next years trip!
