Just returned from a pleasant 2 nights stay. Large site with good space for big tents, nice lakeside walks.

The pitches, although flat, have a fair few dips so be careful how you pitch and not much privacy in the middle but luckily it wasn't busy.

Spotless and clean shower block but the water pressure is very high so don't stand to close to the sink! Very well lit. The showers are great for anyone about 8ft tall, very wide spray so everything below the curtain gets wet, a shelf would be useful in addition to the ample hooks for glasses, wash bags etc.

Didn't go to the shop or clubhouse so cannot comment.

Could do with another shower/toilet block to avoid longs walks with children, and more recycling points.

As one of 11 WildAx motorhomes attending an owners' group meet, I found the site very good in spite of the poor weather and the rather damp field we were in, although we had EHU and water on tap in the field. The staff were very helpful, we got a good welcome pack, the shower/toilet blocks were WARM and very clean, the clubhouse with its bar/restaurant was welcoming and the newly refurbished shop sold most things one might want at very reasonable prices, including newspapers, fresh croissants and coffee!

Some of us had to be towed off when we left but the friendly tractor driver did a sterling job. Some of the roads and paths could do with refurbishment, as there were lots of muddy puddles to skirt, but on the whole an enjoyable stay in less than good weather! 21 of us had a very good evening meal in the Black Horse, 1. 5 rain-soaked miles away, made more delightful for us by the pub, which helpfully arranged transport there and back for those who wanted it. Since it was such awful weather and early in the season I can't comment on the wide range of facilities on offer at this site, but the lakeside location is very attractive even in the rain.

This was our second visit and yet again had a great time, especially as our dog [Holly] just loves the easy access to the lakes for her favourite exercise of swimming. If you are looking for a very dog friendly relaxed site then we can definitely recommend this one. Some pitches have a few dips but nothing too bad,

Toilets/shower block would benefit from a refurb but decent water flow from showers and sinks but pot washing water is very hot. The clubhouse does a fair selection of reasonable meals for eat in or take out which is very handy, this also has outdoor seating patio overlooking the main lake.

Only gripe is that the on site shop which is privately run needs someone to get ownership of it who would put in time and effort to service the needs of the camper. Will definitely be returning.

We visited this site for what was the last weekend of the school holidays. Unfortunately our trip didn't get off to the best start. Due to a last minute 'crisis' at home before we left, we ended up arriving to the site late (just before 9pm). We tried calling the campsite every 10 minutes on our 1. 5 hour journey there to let them know that we would be late, but the line was constantly engaged. When we arrived (in the dark) we found the reception, where there was a buzzer to call the duty warden out of hours. We buzzed this but there was no reply. We continued to buzz (for longer & longer) for at least 20 minutes, but still no-one responded. We then spotted the clubhouse and so walked over to see if someone could contact the warden for us. Eventually they appeared but, despite our explanation and being very apologetic, I felt they were quite abrupt with us, giving us no options of where to setup our tent in the almost empty field. Not the most friendly welcome.

Anyway, I'm glad to say that things improved from there! The people on duty in the reception the following day were very pleasant and chatty, and gave us lots of tips and advice of things to do in the area.

As far as the facilities went, the camping field was relatively flat (though we were put on one of the more sloping parts) and the ground was soft enough to get most of the pegs in without the need for a mallet (always a bonus!) There were plenty of loos and showers (in the ladies, at least) and I never had to queue, nor have a cold shower (free hot water). The cubicles were rather small though & it took a while to arrange all your things on the back of the door. My husband complained that many of the gents' showers didn't have shower curtains to stop your things getting wet. There were also a reasonable number of sinks for washing up (free hot water), so no issues there. There was a freezer (in the laundry room) for re-freezing your own freezer blocks (free of charge), and a large pile of bricks for using underneath barbecues to prevent scorching the grass.

We didn't make use of the clubhouse or the watersports facilities on site - though we did want to hire a pedalo from there, but were told they were only for kids! :-( Again, a quick enquiry in the reception and we found that you could hire electric or pedal 'punts' on the river behind The Rose Revived pub (which we ate at one night - delicious food). We went for a pedal option, which was £12 for an hour and seated 4 people. We also made a trip into Burford for a cream tea at Huffkins (well-deserved after all that pedalling!) - very tasty :-) We also took a trip (30 miles each way) to Butts Farm, near Cirencester. We didn't get there until quite late so we'd missed all the 'activities' but it was still nice to wander round and see the animals. On the way out we bought some lovely sausages and burgers from the shop attached to the farm for our barbecue, which were all delicious.

All in all a good trip. Not the best campsite I've been to, but certainly not the worst. Oh, I should also point out that it's directly under the flight path for Brize Norton so certainly wasn't as peaceful as I had hoped!

This was our second visit to the area, we were there for 3 nights. Our reason for booking was we wanted to visit Oxford and break a journey, we failed to get to Oxford again!

We had good weather and I had prebooked water ski-ing lessons for my two daughters 13 & 16 and myself. The site has a water sports centre and the 45 minute beginner lesson for the three of us cost £84. The lesson was very good with my daughters water ski-ing and me failing badly.

The site has quite a few areas for camping and touring. We were on the hard standing next to the only toilet and shower block. The block was always clean and the showers were good. It could be an issue of distance if you are on the further fields. The block is very large and we had no waiting issues.

The site has a large lake which has a dog walk round and two small beaches for swimming from + the water sports.

There is a small shop the sells bacon rolls in the morning and a club house doing food in the evening and lunchtime. We ate at the club and found the food to be good and reasonably priced.

The site is ideal for children with the warden controlling car speed on the park and a relaxed atmosphere.

The staff were very helpful and showed us to our pitch.

While there we had one day on site doing the lake, and the second at Blenham Palace.

We would visit again, especially as we have an annual pass to Blenham (it was the same price as a family ticket).

It was my first visit to this site and it definitely wont be my last. I was very impressed by the size of it and how large the pitches were.

The wardens and staff were very helpful.

Facilities good but possibly requires another block for such a large site. As previously mentioned the shop was poor.

Water sport facilities catering for novices like us at 13 yrs and 64 yrs of age as well as the more experienced customer.

Handy site within 2 hours of home so we will visit again.

We've just had a four night sneaky getaway here. The site is very well equipped for the camper (which we were). It also seemed well equipped for the caravan/tourer with chemical toilet disposal, elsan point etc.

As other reviews have said the shop is a let down, but is up for sale (£12, 500). However, the rest of the site makes up for it.

The staff are friendly and accommodating. The clubhouse is lively, modern and clean, but lacks the character of the local pubs. As it is on site it is far more appealing, but is not as good value for money.

The showers and toilets are clean. The showers were hot and powerful. They never seemed very busy, and there were a good number (10 of each).

The site also has static holiday homes on site and also runs the water sports on the beautiful lakes (all on site).

Dogs are very welcome.

All in all a very good 'get away'.

If only they could make the sun shine!

Just returned from a glorious long weekend at Hardwick Parks - how lucky were we to coincide our trip with the heatwave ! The location is glorious, on the edge of a beautiful lake, just outside of the village of Standlake near Oxford.

Chose this site because of the great reviews it has received here, but was a little disappointed to be honest. Don't get me wrong - it is a lovely site, but not sure it lived up to the hype. Here is my twopennyworth:

Liked:

The beautiful clean lake for swimming, sunning and watersports if you have the extra cash and the energy !

Excellent dog walks (although mostly all on lead)

Huge pitches, not strictly mapped out, so loads of space

Good value for money - no charge for the dog, which is rare these days

Nice bar/bistro with children's play area outside - only had a drink here, but the food looked good, if a little on the expensive side.

Disliked:

The shop - this has to be the worst campsite shop I have ever encountered - admittedly, it is for sale, so assume that the ownership can't be bothered anymore. It reminded me of an old-fashioned corner shop from the 70s, with very little on the shelves and no choice. I tried to order some 'fresh' bread for the next day, which they seemed to be able to do. When I returned the next morning at 9. 00am, the shop wasn't even open - they strolled along at around 9. 30am and the 'fresh' bread was a loaf of Warburtons ! Really needs to be taken over quickly, as it is letting this site down badly. I have marked customer service quite low for this reason, but the other staff we met were all very helpful.

Toilet block - only one block serves the whole site. It was never that busy when I was there, but it could be quite a trek from some of the fields on the site, which are set quite far apart. Also, the showers are not very well equipped - no shelf for your clean clothes and one temperature only - VERY hot ! Fine for me, but could be a problem for young children. On the plus side, they were always clean when I used them.

All in all, the lake probably won me over in the end, but they really need to get a better shop on site !

Have been to this site 3 times this year and every time have found them to be great. We were looking for a nice friendly site close to home for weekend breaks and this fits the bill perfectly!

The pitches are really big, we usually go for the top field and find youu can really space yourself well, the staff on the site are fantastic and can't do enough for you they are a real credit to the site.

The facilities are good shower blocks with plenty of hot water.

A really great site for dogs they are made to feel very welcome and really good that they don't charge for them!

The walk around the lake is lovely and a really nice dog walk

Overall a great site and will be back many more times.

We camped here just a few miles where we live so we could trial pitch our new tent and have some fun.

The reception staff

They all looked very busy and jolly, however we had the one that was a little “off” it was Friday at 6 pm, please smile though, I explained I needed a large pitch without EHU because we were pitching our new tent for the first time, the reception staff explained all the facilities and said that the warden would show us the pitch, with that I started to walk out only to be scalded by the receptionist, that it was our first camping trip I should listen to her, I pointed out it was a new tent but camping was not new to us, the red blushes soon melted some of the frost off her.

The Warden

A very nice chap warmly welcomed us and said we could pitch anywhere in the field, made the kids welcome and made them laugh.

The bar staff

A well run club house, our first experience of one, it is clean and full of people watching the world cup, it had a nice atmosphere, the play ground is close by so very convenient.

The manger runs a tight ship and people were quickly served, all the kids that were there behaved well, the drink was inexpensive and the food looked pretty good and tasted good according to people that ate there.

The site

A large site, however it coped with the holiday/ weekend campers well, it was certainly not full despite it was a father’s day weekend, it was pretty much due to blowing a gale for the weekend the site manager said we could just turn up, the showers were modern, hot and free overall a good experience, if you are keen on fishing take your tackle there is plenty of places very nearby but don’t count on catching anything in the lake.

Conclusion

Nice site close to Witney a nice town with everything you would need, close to Oxford use the Park & Ride, Burford and the Cotswolds, we will return we buy a new tent.
