Me and my husband stayed at the campsite for one night only. It was so peaceful. We were in a small field with just three other tents. We found the owners very friendly and helpful. The toilet / shower block was so clean, warm (which was nice on a very cold rainy night) and fresh flowers! All round a lovely site although the nearest pub was not within walking distance, it was at least a 5 minute drive.

What a find. We had a wonderful Bank Holiday weekend here. We were pitched in a section at the top of the site with spectacular views over the surrounding countryside. The weather was glorious which always helps but it was very windy; we had chosen the most exposed spot for the view and an opportunity to test the stability and strength of our new tent. The site is off a main road but although we could hear the traffic it was not intrusive and was more than made up for by the birdsong in the surrounding hedgerows. The facilities are excellent; clean at all times of the day, plentiful hot water, good laundry and washing up provision. There is no playground but this was not noticed by any of the children who had room to play ball games and could roam the site safely. There is an excellent information hut which is well stocked with brochures on every possible attraction, activity and place of interest in the area. From here we visited Alnwick Castle and Gardens which is a bit of a drive but well worth the visit (you can get a 2 day pass if you don't want to do it all in one day), Beamish which is a great day out and Durham which has plenty to see and do. There is a park and ride into Durham but it only operates Monday to Friday and not on Bank Holidays but there are a number of car parks including a multistory 'Bishops Gate' which is right in the centre of town. Back at the site, there is a small shop selling emergency supplies and for other items there is a Tesco a short drive away we didn't need to go but were provided with printed directions. The owners are delightful and very helpful and clearly really cared that we had a good time. We recommend this site without any hesitation.

We visited Strawberry Hill Farm this weekend, we wanted to visit somewhere close to home. This campsite is without exception the nicest I have stayed at. The facilities are very modern and immaculate. Our tent pitch was very spacious and we had lots of room to sit outside and enjoy the great views.
When we got there we managed to break our BBQ (long story but there is a reason why men should read instruction manuals!) Howard very kindly fixed this for us and gave us some new charcoal and refused to take any money for this.
We had a lovely quiet break and will definitely be going back for future trips.

We chose this site because it was not too far from home. We were looking for a site within about an hour's driving distance of home. We have used a touring caravan for years, but for a variety of reasons have now opted for a tent and this was our first experience. The tent we purchased was quite large and we had spoken with Howard, the site owner, to ensure that they could accommodate us. They were more than happy to do so. The pitches were extremely large and no-one was cramped or too close. It was a nightmare putting the tent up, mainly because it was horrendously windy when we got there and the site is quite open with some superb views.
Another reason we chose this site was because of the excellent comments documented regarding the cleanliness of the shower block. This certainly lived up to extremely positive comments received. My 12 year old son felt the showers were wonderful - having 3 showers in one day - which is completely unheard of at home.
We used the camp shop on a couple of occasions just to purchase some cold drinks (would have preferred diet pop - but that's purely me!)
Both Howard and Elizabeth were extremely friendly and happy to help. The electricity charges for 3 nights came to a whopping £1.09 which I still cannot believe considering we had the usual appliances plus a laptop and xbox 360 with us.
The busy road close by does give some noise by the passing traffic, however, we knew all about this before we booked this site so it did not come as a surprise.
In summary, the site is a lovely quiet site perfect for weekends for anyone wanting to be close to Durham or for longer periods of time for people visiting the north east. Not too sure if we will use this site again as a family (daughter nearly 15, son 12), but would certainly consider using the site should we go away with friends etc.

We had never visited this site before but it was early in the year and close to home and decided to give it a go. I can only say that other campsite owners should visit the site and take some lessons off Howard and Elizabeth on how to run a site and conduct themselves, they could not do enough for you and the site and facilities where always spotless.
I have also never seen such a well stocked information hut! The only thing I could grump about is the closeness of the always busy main road and the site would be embellished by a children's play area. The city of Durham is only minutes away as is the nearest supermarket. Would recommend and revisit any time.

Just returned from weeks break over Easter weekend we have a large trailer tent and having stated that at booking had been allocated a large pitch. In fact all the pitches looked big, room for car along side and still room for the kids to play. No play ground but our children did not miss that they were more than happy playing with what we had taken and with friends they made.
The site owners Liz and Howard were probably the best we have come across in all our travels, friendly extremely helpful and fun. Nothing was too much trouble, the small shop (storing things you may have forgotten )was available all hours and the information shed was full of leaflets for places to go .
As designated map reader I was delighted with the instructions for the final approach to the campsite available on the canpsites web site they were accurate even to the point of exact mileage points where roundabouts and turnings were .
Electricity is metered and we used £1.50 over 6 days! The only campsite rules were necessary and totally unofficious.
We will definitely stay here again there is much to do in the surrounding area
A final note when several units left after the Easter weekend Howard had sited the remaining in a spaced out way so the kids would have more room to play.

Nice site VERY friendly people, clean and free showers toilets and laundry. Our pitch was slightly more sloping than we would have liked and the pub is within 1 mile as the crow flies, you would have quite a walk along an unpaved unlit busy road to reach it.
Didn't appreciate the grass been cut on a Sunday whilst we were out leaving our van side and equipment covered in grass clippings, why not cut the grass during the week when the site is empty?

We have just arrived home after a short stay at Strawberry Hill Farm. Our stay was spoilt only by our forgetting to take our Caravan Keys.On our arrival Howard came to our assistance with a variety of keys, wires and bits and pieces to aid out attempt at getting the caravan open, which we did in only a short time. From then on our stay was perfect, the rainy weather turned to sunshine, the facilities were good, the shower and toilet block were excellent, lots of information available for places to visit, our car was parked alongside the caravan and the children still had lots of room to play, in fact there was much more space than average between each caravan. The view from our window was to die for, miles and miles of beautiful countryside, perfect for walking and 'getting away from it all'.
The site was clean and tidy with rubbish bins emptied quietly each day no loud tractor at the crack of dawn.We will certainly go back to stay at Strawberry hill we can't recommend it highly enough and have no criticism at all.

We Visited this site for a week based on the good reviews on this web site.
When I contacted Howard the owner about booking, as we were approaching from the east, he explained in detail about turning at the new roundabout. At the time of booking I asked about disables facilities and Howard assured me that he would make sure that we were accommodated with consideration.
Howard took us to our pitch and even reversed and sited the van for me & explained where everything was located (water, etc.). He then gave us a Folder containing many items of interest in the area so we could look in the comfort of the van.
The site is clean and well maintained, with small areas of wild grasses and flowers for conservation, Most of the caravan pitches have hard standing.
The toilets/showers were kept clean and tidy. The disabled toilet shower are as good as you can get the shower has a plastic lever which operates the shower by pressing it with your body, there is a chair to use in the shower and the WC has grab handles, excelent for us less able campers, with constant hot water, handsoap, at the basins & toilet tissue. The showers are free. The washing up area has stainless sinks & loads of hot water. There is a laundry room but we did not use it.
A good value for money site, Oh the electric is metered, but hey this is great only cost us £2.04 for the week most sites charge that per night.
My only concern was carrying the toilet cassette up the steep gravely climb to the disposal point. Howard, advised me to bring it up in the car or call him for assistance.
An excellent site to see Durham and Beamish or just to relax, we will DEFINITELY be coming back. Thank you to Howard and his good lady.

This campsite is lovely. It is just outside of Durham, the most beautiful countryside surrounding it's location. Yes, it is situated just off a fairly busy dual carriageway and there is a little road noise but this can be overlooked easily when you look at the merits of the site.
Firstly the owners are superb, extremely welcoming and helpful. We struggled with electric hook-up and we were helped immediately with our unit. The toilets are clean and in good condition with two nice and warm showers. There are laundry facilities, freezer and an information hut which is jam packed with ideas for thing to do in the area. The shop is well stocked and has the right mix of bits you need. As we went with our two year old there were a few other children staying, and he had a blast, simply running around on the open spaces. Super.
