We tried this site as it was close to home and it was our first time with a caravan. Normally we go with a Tent but we had borrowed the Mother in Laws caravan to give it a try.
It was dark when we arrived due to my wife not being able to read the very easy to read directions we got from the sites website but that wasn't a problem.
We found the place great. Nice and quiet and excellent for us to begin with. The owners were really helpful and gave us a drive on drive off pitch as we had explained that it was our first time with the Caravan.
The site was clean and tidy and the toilets again were nice and clean. There was a little shop there that seemed to sell the basics and we were right on the doorstep to Durham City.
Although you were near a busy road we never heard anything.
Overall a great site and we will be visiting again with our new caravan to try it out.
Oh and the electric was really cheap too!

Having read the other reviews on this site I am now thinking that my husband and I must be over fussy! We found the road noise to be very disturbing. In fact so much that we only stayed for one night even though we had paid for two! Having said that I did find the owners to be the friendliest most helpful people, who obviously cared about keeping the site green although somewhat untidy with weeds growing over pitches. We felt rather too close to the next pitch, especially as they had teenagers and 2 young children, and there were also a few children playing ball close to us too. The toilet/showers I found to be old and dated and could do with a thorough good clean to remove the black mould from around the shower base fitments, which no-one else seemed to notice in other reviews I have read. I can only conclude that yes we are a very fussy couple!

This site was absolutely beautiful. There were lovely views and the staff were friendly, welcoming and showed a great commitment to keeping the site green. Only a small site, it does not offer some of the attractions of bigger and busier places but if you want a quiet, pleasant and really enjoyable time, this is the site for you.Unlike some sites we have visited, the staff appeared to love their job, they waved the electricity charge because it was minimal and the full charge for our VW, 2 dogs, a tent and 2 adults and one child was £15- we would gladly return.

July was our first outing with our somewhat aged Esterel folding caravan and we decided to stop off in the Durham area on the way home to Scotland. Having read a few reviews of Strawberry Hill we decided to give it a try, and were very glad that we did. From my initial telephone call to book a pitch to the friendly wave we received as we left, the owners, Howard and Elizabeth, couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful. The information hut is excellent and they even provide a map of Durham and printed directions to the nearest supermarket when you first arrive. Ok, there is some noise from the road, but we soon stopped noticing it and it quietens considerably outside commuting times.
All in all a great wee site with the bonus of a really nice pub/restaurant a mile down the road and easy access to Durham and the coast. We'll definitely stay there again.

This is an excellent campsite for relaxing, the owners are very helpful and keep the site in tip top condition. Have been to this site twice now .The toilet/shower/washing area block is kept very clean. We will definitely be going back again.

Easy to get to and well located only a few miles from the centre of Durham, this is a well maintained site.
Some pitches have good views over the surrounding countryside and the toilet / shower / laundry / dishwashing block was very nice.
The owners are very nice and they have a superb tourist information 'shed'. Gas and other bits and bobs can be bought from the very small shop.
There are information signs explaining how the hedgerows had been planted to attract wildlife which we thought was a nice touch.
Our only small complaint is that there is a wee bit of road noise but you do find that you tune out after a while.
The site was quiet when we were there and we got the impression that a lot of folk use it as a stopover.
We would not hesitate to recommend this site for either a stopover or a longer stay.

This was our first time camping in our motor home we used this site because it was close to friends and thought it would be ideal to test us and the motor home to iron out any problems thankfully there was none,
we found the owners very friendly the site was well-kept toilets and showers were very clean the pub down the road (the three horseshoes) serves good food and made us very welcome. As we have a 18 month old baby it suited us fine for a couple of days as a base but don't think we would stay longer but will use again as a stop over on way to Scotland.

Stayed on this site for four nights. Great owners. Very helpful and pleasant. Nothing too much trouble. Road noise not too noticeable after a short while. Site very well taken care of. Grass mown at least three times whilst I was there.
Toilets and showers very clean. Also washing up area. It has a laundry room too. Electric is paid separately from site fee. Cost me £2.00 for four nights! Cheaper than at home. Could do with a play area if you have children with you. Cannot fault this site and will definitely be returning.

This was our first ever camping holiday ans we needed something local just encase the mrs didn't like it.
Well the small camping area was perfect for us, clean, grass well cut, nice and quiet also. The toilets were very clean and plenty of space.
After staying there just the 1 night the mrs is liking the idea of camping and I cant wait to go back soon.

We are new to caravanning and this was just our second time away. We stayed for 2 nights and had a lovely peaceful relaxing time. We arrived about 6pm and Howard directed us to our pitch, which was level, and even helped us to unhitch our van. He couldn't do enough to help us. There are no shops or pubs nearby but that didn't bother us as we like the quiet life anyway. The toilet block was lovely and clean and there is a little information hut with lots of leaflets of places to go and see. There was a little bit of traffic noise but not too much to complain about. I noticed there was no play area if you had children with you. All in all it is an excellent site and we will be returning.
