 Really nice little site!

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay (despite the weather!)

You will not find a nicer and more 'laid-back' site owner anywhere than Howard. No rushing to get away before midday deadlines, and electric only charged at cost price (and works out WAY cheaper than paying up front to 'hire' the electric point).

There was traffic noise from the A181 which runs past the site, but it was never intrusive enough to spoil the stay. We can't believe that a site can be so close to so many places and still look and feel like it's way out in the countryside. Being on a hillside it looks out towards the west and the view is absolutely tremendous. We have rarely been anywhere and had a view like that. You can literally see for miles!

The site facilities are excellent, and kept in an immaculate clean condition.

If you want a nice peaceful place to stay and relax, then this it it.

This was our first visit here, but will certainly not be our last!

The owner, Howard, so lovely and helpful! Walk to bus into town a bit scary as not footpath but bus did arrive as Howard said and stopped.

The site is for camping very small but felt that we had space. Wonderful showers and good toilets.

Not really much of a shop but I am sure Howard would help you in anyway!

We have paid a recent visit to the campsite for our honeymoon as a young couple of newlyweds and have found the site to be a very pleasant experience.

There's not a lot to be said that hasn't been already but still.

The facilities were grand for a site it's size, the gents had two shower cubicles, two toilets, two sinks and a urinal all of which were constantly spotless and well stocked with loo roll and just as importantly never had to be queued for which is a bonus! The ladies were apparently similarly well equipped.
There is a small laundry (£2 per load and timed charges for drier) but we didn't have to use that so I can't vouch to it's quality. There is also a small shop on site for those easy forgotten supplies (gas, windbreaks, spare mallet etc) and sweets, very handy.
In addition to the toilets sinks there are two running water sinks for pot washing / food prep. Very nice.

A particularly nice touch for the site is the little, presumably self maintained, tourist information center in the shed, a few chairs but loads of ideas on what to do in the area both near and not so near. In addition on arrival we were given a map of the city, directions to Tesco, local A&E, vets etc which was a nice touch.

The site itself was mostly quiet, we did have some noisy neighbours for the last day but that's a problem with people rather than place! The bins were regularly emptied and the water pipes were clean :-)

The noise from the local A-Road was rather loud, but then we were camping on the bottom level only yards from it under canvas so that's to be expected (we were offered the level away from tents as a 'honeymoon suite' for some peace from other campers ;-) ) but that said it didn't bother us, the sheep made more noise!

We'll be back sometime soon I dare to say!

We visited this site for the weekend as it was local and we wanted a relaxing break as opposed to our previous hectic weekend at Alton Towers.

We found the site really easily (if you are coming from the East (A19) like we were you will need to carry on past the campsite and turn round at the Horse Shoe pub a little way down the road as it is only accessible from the Eastbound side of the dual carriageway.

The cost of a pitch (15.50 per night peak) is very reasonable and so is the cost for electric as you only pay for what you use. We had an electric coolbox on all weekend, a fan/heater on an evening and morning and a DVD player one night and our total came to 42p!

There were a number of families in both caravans and tents and as quite a number of pitches were unoccupied there was plenty of space for kids to play. If however the campsite was fully booked I wonder where the children would play then.

The shower and toilet block was more than adequate (very impressed with the powerful showers, slightly less impressed with having to press the button every 15 seconds, but we managed) and the 2 sinks for washing up were undercover and had lighting.

There is a shed which is always left open near reception which stores a multitude of visitor info for surrounding areas and the map of Durham city centre came in very useful as we decided to visit it on the Saturday. Less than 5 miles away and parking prices even in the town centre were reasonable.

There is some noticeable traffic noise but nothing that detracted from our visit. The site has brilliant views all round but as it is fairly high up it can be quite windy so don't forget your windbreak if you're cooking outside like us!

Both Elizabeth (on the phone) and Howard were extremely helpful and made us feel very welcome. I would recommend this campsite to anyone and I think we'll be visiting again!

 Fantastic site!

About 1 year ago my boyfriend and I bought a 3 man tent at a bargain reduced price! Since then we've never used it, as a virgin camper I spoke with my sister and her boyfriend and we decided the 4 of us would go camping. We thought 2 nights were enough to ease me in gently and we wanted a site nearby in case I got scared of the creepie crawlers and wanted to go home! Or the weather went really bad!

Anyhoo we found Strawberry Hill Farm and after sending an email enquiry which was responded to swiftly we decided to book up.

When we arrived we were greeted by Howard and his trusty dog! bless! Howard was very pleasant and showed me the ropes - dum dum!

We got settled on the site very quickly and had a quick nosey about to see what the facilities were like and we were all really impressed. Everything was tidy and clean, the toilets both had plenty of loo roll - phew! and the showers were spotless!

We spent 2 days on the site and there were other campers there, everyone was really friendly and chatted to each other so it was great.

The second day rained but it didn't spoil our fun one bit, we were able to play cards at our table n chairs inside one tent and later on as the rain settled we were able to open the tent flap so we could enjoy our tea in the open air.

We decided not to risk trying to cook the tea we'd bought in case the rain started again so we visited nearby Braydon (I think it was called) and the chip shop. All I can say about the food was we are defo spoilt in the North East, it was tasty enough but portions were small. Luckily we'd also popped into the little shop near the chippy and purchased some sausage rolls/pies etc. And some very bargain price cans of cider - mmmmm!

All in all a pleasant trip and defo somewhere we'll be going back but next time we plan to try the fancy static caravans! with the swish decking areas!

Thanks Howard and Elizabeth! You do a fab job and we'll see you soon! xxx

We found the site really easy to find - (I dont agree with earlier comments about poor signs.)

We were only there for 1 night - OH and 8 year old boy plus dog. As we arrived 3 tents were leaving and we had the run of the field. Well the dog loved this! Howard (owner) popped up to see us, eager to ensure we were ok and we had a good stay.

Site is very clean, tidy and organised. 2 showers, 2 loos and 2 sinks and handsoap oh and fresh flowers, nice touch. FREE showers not on timer! There is also a disabled loo and shower. The owners suggested we use that when it came to showertime for our lad which was great as we had loads of room to get sorted. There was a little baby bath available too. All very practical and the shower was more powerful my my home powershower!

One thing I found missing was a hairdryer. I know most people these days have electric hookup but I went to bed with damp hair :(

There are 2 sinks and drainers separate to the loo facilities.

There is a little shop and a information hut too. The owners are very approachable and as I have said, eager to help. I wish I had used this service a bit more - as when we went out in the car for a look about, we got a tad lost. I had read that there was a local Tescos, that hid from us - did find a Coop in Trindom, but there seemed nothing to write home about in the local area. Other than beautiful views and walks.

The site is split level, the tents without hookup on the top level. This was windy and the weather was not bad at all - so just make sure the tent is fixed down well. Our son loved playing cricket, football, rounders etc and was shocked when Howard had a kick about with him as many sites do not allow ball games. The owners also made a fuss of the dog too, which made us feel even more welcome.

All in all good clean site - very basic surroundings (and car noise fromn the main road is not loud at all, the birds and animals were louder)

Would certianly revisit for a night or even a long weekend.

Thanks for having us.

Visited this site for a weekend because of the good reviews. Howard the owner very pleasant & enquired which direction we were travelling from & explained about turning at Four Feathers PH.
Howard took us to the tent field & explained where everything was located (water, etc.). The site is spotless & on 3 levels with the tent field on the top level. Loads of trees have been planted which are now attracting lots of birds - the best dawn chorus and evensong I have heard in a long time. Most of the pitches in the tent field are level but a few are sloping, I used a handful of rock pegs.
The toilets were immaculate with constant hot water, handsoap, plugs in basins & toilet tissue. Showers are probably the most powerful I have come across on a campsite, again spotless & with hanging hooks on the walls & the backs of the door. The showers are free. The washing up area is tiled with stainless sinks & loads of hot water, plastic drainers and plugs (my pet hate). There is a laundry room but we did not use it.
There is no play area but there is ample space for children to play without causing annoyance to other campers. There is no pub in what I would describe as walking distance, but I prefer this on a family oriented site. Pressing the bell on the shop door brings an almost immediate response from Howard, who is a true gem - he even lent us some matches, rather than sell us a box.
An excellent site if you love to relax, we will DEFINITELY be coming back.

Just got back and I have to say we have had a fanstastic weekend, the site is very peaceful friendly and a real homely feel to it. Toilet blocks and facilities cannot be faulted and the owner and his wife are very friendly and helpful. A real nice quiet site with fantastic views, not suitable if you are wanting to go to the pub every night and have lots of entertainment on tap, but if you are like us who just want peaceful breaks then you will love this site.

One of the most friendly and relaxed site we have stayed at so far we will be back on many occasions.

I was slightly concerned with the need to pay electric on an 'as you use' tarrif but I need not have worried we were told it was very cheap and when I went to settle up found that this was very true a grand 84p for 2 days with a family of 5 using microwaves, t.V,heaters, lots of lights ect ect do not let this put you off

100% recomended site for people looking for a quite peaceful break just to get away from it all.

We personally did not notice the road noise at all so again do not let that put you off a visit here, you will not be disapointed.

Many many thanks see you very soon :)

Nice clean site, large pitches and even though there is no playground there is plenty of space for children to run around.
The shower block is clean and nice hot showers are free, but the block itself was really cold most of the time even though we visited in May. Heating was not in use at all whilst we were there, and I have to say,I think the decision to whether radiators are in use should reflect the weather not the month of the year! Also there were no hair dryers or even plugholes in the block, making hair drying difficult if you are in a tent or do not have EHU.
Talking of EHU, electricity is metered so you only pay for what you have used, which makes it much cheaper (and fairer) than paying the set amount most sites charge, which is a definite bonus of this site.
The owners are friendly and helpful and take the upkeep of the site and well being of there clients seriously, which means noise at night is kept to a minimum and all areas are clean and tidy at all times.
The shop is also very reasonably priced compared to many sites we have visited. The site is next to a busy dual carriageway, so there is some road noise but its nothing major and you soon get used to it.
There isnt really anything within walking distance of this site, which is probably a good thing as walking along the dual carriageway with its insufficient pathway (when there is one) would be very precarious, so a vehicle is essential to get out and about. There is a Tesco and a small retail park approx 2 miles away.
With regard to a previous review mentioning the entrance/exit to the site, I agree with the owner that the signs directing drivers to only turn left are adequate and think it sad that the man who made a mistake in turning right instead of left, should make it sound almost as though the site owners are at fault in some way, which is ridiculous in my opinion. All in all, a nice quiet, peaceful site, ideal for a stop over if touring the local

Area or for just a few days relaxation. We would probably visit again.

We booked this site just for a few days away close to home. We loved it so much we returned the following weekend.

The site is clean and well spaced out pitches. Howard the site owner cannot do enough for you after showing you to your pitch he helps as much or as little as you require. The toilet block was really clean and modern. The site is kept clean and the waste bins are emptied every day.

We have a small child and felt relaxed when he was playing outside.

We have booked to return in August and will be back before then.
