Had great time in the snow at this site. First time we had tried out our self build bus conversion. Very friendly welcome and good clean site. No play area for kids but plenty of space to kick a ball etc. Great stop off site on route or to use as a base for touring County Durham.

In response to the comments posted by Gonal. As Park owner I was sorry to learn of this camper's mistake on leaving our Park. Thankfully no one was injured and no accident caused.
We opened the Park in 2002 and to our knowledge this is the first incident of this kind.
At the exit there is one 'keep left' sign and one 'turn left' sign. I have taken the liberty of posting a photograph on our web site of the entrance / exit which you may access from our link on this web site. This should be active from 19.04.08.
When we obtained planning permission for the site the safety of our guests was our number one priority and as such we took advice from the Highways Authority who designed the entrance on our behalf. The signage is mandatory and compliant with the Highway Code.
Any camper with any concerns should not hesitate to call me at any time.

Good points :-
Good clean facilities.
Good sized pitches.
Very friendly owners.
Beautiful views - but see below!
Electricity is metered; even in March with our heater on this turned out much cheaper than a fixed charge.
Bad points :-
Beautiful views because the site is on a hill. This means that the site is rather exposed. Might not be a problem during the summer, but it was a bit too windy in March.
Site entrance is on a dual carriageway, so entrance is only possible from one direction. The exit is also onto this dual carriageway; you have to be very careful to remember that this is a dual carriageway as the signage is dangerously (to our minds) inadequate (no no-right-hand turn signs, for example) and you can't see the other carriageway from the junction. Worse still the junction is just after a blind bend so oncoming cars are not visible. We actually turned right up the wrong carriageway but realised our mistake before facing oncoming traffic. We managed to turn around, but this would not have been possible with a caravan attached!

Excellent site. Facilities were modern and spotless. There are two shower cubicles in Ladies and Gents toilets (no charge), they have a proper glass door within its own locked wooden door cubicle (and hooks!). Laundry - 50p for washing machine, 50p for tumble dryer or 50p for dryer + iron & board.
There is an external chemical waste disposal, behind gate, with standpipe and hose. The shop has a fridge freezer (again, no charge for using the Ice packs). The shop is mainly unattended, but as it is an extension to the private dwelling, a push-bell is responded to, by the owners, very quickly. The owners really care about the site and your well-being; very friendly and willing to help. There is also a large shed filled with brochures of the surrounding areas - Durham is about 4 miles away and the Beamish Museum (albeit £16 per adult in high season), is well worth 5hrs of your day. The Pitches are split on 3 levels, as the hill descends to the dual carriageway. Pitches are all grass, but the ground underneath is hard (there is a Quarry nearby) - so for those with tents, you may need to heavy-duty nail-like pegs! There's a lot of EHU's and large pitch sizes - I'd guess 8.0m x 8.0m - but larger areas for those 3-domed Vangos. There a central standpipe, grid (for grey waste) and dustbin and bottle/can crate in the centre of each level. These are emptied daily. All ground is on a slight incline (only 3 degrees) though. Being on a hill, it can get battered by the wind, so make sure you batten down the tents. One you are within 1 mile, ignore the SAT-NAV (the postcode is the village of cassock), The site is signposted on the South-West side, so those travelling from the South may need to turn around at the large pub on the bend. The dual carriageway is right next to the site (about 50 metres), so will give background noise to those in tents. Not a lot of noise, but being a carriageway, you will hear those motorbikes and boy-racers speeding through, like jets, at 2.00am. No play area for children, but there seems to be a lot of space around the pitches and my 9yr old loved "being out in the country". I would certainly visit again and mark this in my secret book of 'high-standard' sites!

Stayed here on bank holiday weekend, when we arrived there were only a handful of people on site but by Friday evening it was full. Even so, showers and toilets were never overcrowded and always clean (tho there was a problem with drainage in one of the showers). The site is very clean with some stunning views, and although by the road, the feeling is one of being in the middle of countryside. The owners were more than helpful and very friendly, holding drawing competitions for the kids and general knowledge competition for adults with great prizes. Theres a great tourist information booth, there isn't a playground but there's so much space in between pitches for kids to play on that my kids never even noticed. I would definitely visit here again. :-)

Very friendly campsite, the owners have gone out of their way to make a welcoming site and have succeeded. Toilets/Showers were spotlessly clean and well stocked with loo roll. Site was free of litter and had recycling facilities as well as a well stocked store and information centre. The site is also surprisingly quiet considering the site is located just off a dual carriageway. We had a fantastic stay and wouldn't hesitate in returning. I would recommend this site to any camper/Caravaner.

This was a great little site! My 4 year old loved being here, running round the field! Facilities were nice and clean. The shop was basic, but that's OK, as site is situated very near Durham city, so you are not too far from civilisation! Would come here again.

My family stayed for three nights at this lovely peaceful campsite and had a wonderful time. Howard and Liz could not have been more welcoming and the cleanliness of the facilities were outstanding. It's small things like fresh cut flowers in the showers block and having recycling bins that add up to make a small but excellent campsite. We will definitely be staying at this site again.

Went at short notice to try our new Aspen 500 out. Booked in very easily over the phone and found the owners very helpful with selecting which pitch to use for our size tent. Not much for kids to do but that was fine as we didnt take ours and didnt want play areas etc. Great views over Durham and peace and quiet, just what the doctor ordered. Pity about the road noise but this died away at night so no problem really. The facilities were fine and the owners brilliant, nothing was too much trouble. Lovely pub about 10 mins walk away. Would certainly recommend it for a quiet time away and would certainly go again.

Just got back from the campsite and it was awesome. The weather wasn't brilliant and funnily improved the day we left! The owners of the park were very helpful and the toilets and showers etc were always clean. The shop stocked goods that were cheaper than other parks we have visited. There is a cracking chinese only 5 mins drive. We had a set meal for 2 on the final night and it was enough to feed 4, all for £15.50 bargain! I will definatly be staying at this site again in the very near future. We have 2 kids aged 2 and 4 and they loved it too
