This campsite is very well run, and the owners are extremely helpful and always on hand.
The pitches are large and each caravan is a good distance from its neighbour.
There are plenty of brochures for every attraction in the area kept in a separate cabin which is always open.
The toilet facilities are excellent the mens and the women's both having two toilets and 2 showers and are immaculate, and cleaned regularly.
The site is only a 5 minute drive into Durham and 10 minutes from the A1 so is very well placed.
Next time I go near Durham I would certainly go back to this site

Arrived on site to a very warm welcome, we were shown to our pitch, which came with 2 concrete blocks to put the caravan legs on as it was not the flattest of pitches we have used.
Showers and toilets were clean, but be aware if going for a shower early before the rush the water is very hot.
The entrance to the site is out onto a duel carriageway and the traffic is very fast so be aware.
Durham is a lovely place to visit, and Beamish is an absolute must.
If you need to do some shopping there is a large asda at peterlee which is about 8 miles.

A very friendly and helpful welcome. Howard spent ages helping us with our breakaway cable. He also offered to get us tickets for the ballet. There was excellent tourist information in the little cabin.
The toilet block was clean and well appointed. We didn't have to wait, but the site was almost empty. A note did point out that hot water was not always available at busy periods. This was the best method of paying for electricity. We paid £3.70 for 7 nights during some very cold weather.
A dedicated dog walking area would be appreciated. I liked the attention paid to wild life sightings in the vicinity.
The traffic did not cause much noise probably due to the ample tree screening.
On leaving the site to visit Durham, we found it better to continue up hill on the dual carriageway, few hundred metres and use the roundabout rather than the refuge to turn round.
Strawberry Hill is well sighted enabling one to visit the geologically fascinating coast of County Durham as well as the city.

Myself, my husband, my 11yr old son and 3yr old daughter stayed in our caravan here for a week in august.
The site was easy to find and is set in a lovely rural area. The site is tired on three levels on a slight hill and each section is separated with lovely wild shrubbery. Their is a busy main road at entrance to site which we could hear at times.
At the top of the hill is the owners house, a small information hut which is useful and a small shop containing the basics.
The amenities block is also here. Both male & female contain two toilets, two sinks and two showers. They were pretty clean but quite tired looking. The water was not very hot water and the cubicles small and not enough room to get dried properly, but they did the job.
Their are two washing up sinks under cover and also a shower room/toilet for the less abled. Their are also washing and drying machines and a toilet disposal area.
Pitch sizes are good, we had plenty of room for our awning and to park the car.
Fresh water taps are not to far away and easy to access.
A nice site in all with a friendly & helpful owner. Although nothing really for kids to do. It was quite when we were their so they had a bit of space to kick a ball but if busy this wouldn't be possible as quite narrow.
Good spot for easy access to Durham and other main areas. Nice peaceful site. Good also for a night stop as only a few miles off the A1M.
I think for caravan, two adults, two children and an awning we paid approx just under £23 per night. Electric hook up is paid for separately at the end of your stay. We had our tv, fridge etc on as normal and only paid £2. 50 for the week.

Having read all of the positive comments about this site, our first impressions were not good. Maybe we expected too much.
The entrance drive was a rough farm track opening out onto the top two tiers of this site. It looked very haphazard - some units facing one way, some another, vegetation overgrown in places.
We persevered and the welcome was warm and booming! Howard welcomed us to the site and showed us to a 'drive through' pitch - in actuality just a strip of grass at the end of a row with an adverse slope to the rear. We chocked the 'van and got onto even keel. There are some hard stands on the top tier but most of these seemed to be occupied by motorhomes.
The facilities are limited - just two loos, two showers and two sinks in each side - clean but tired looking and narrow. Two washing up sinks are sited alongside but outside the loos. For a September weekend these were adequate.
The on-site shop is limited, but there is a huge Tesco about 3 1/2 miles away where you can get anything from a pin to an elephant - 24 hours a day!
The adjacent A181 road was busy and noisy well into the night. It is the start of a dual carriageway hill, and most large vehicles change down just here - I know - I heard every one until I dropped off about 3 am
The exit from the site can be difficult. The road carries fast traffic and you emerge onto a steep hill. No chance of a 'racing' getaway - even with a large car and light 'van I crawled up the hill.
At £17. 85 + electricity - all of 32p for one night - I would expect better.

We went to this site 30th June-3rd July for the first time, the welcome and care throughout our time was exceptional.
Very relaxing, beautiful countryside views. Yes the shower block is basic, but has all you need (I can be very fussy) and had no troubles with the usage.
We decided to return the following week and Howard suggested we leave the caravan there for a nominal price, which we did and it was great just having to pull up in the car and relax quicker.
You are warned on the info sheet that noise will not be tolerated after 10. 30pm, and this was proved when a few units were a bit 'over the top' and Howard came down to reprimand them.
There is a pub nearby which I can't comment on as we did not go down, maybe next time we will. Go back? you bet we will. Thanks Howard for your little treasure.

Nicely laid out site with easy road links to Durham and Hartlepool /A1/A19.
Very basic shop and very clean toilets/showers and good information hut.
Did not visit any surrounding villages so can't really comment on them but there is a petrol station just down the road.
There didn't seem to be a lot of room for large tents though as each field is quite narrow but quite private with lots of shrubbery.
The road noise was very loud and kept my partner awake for most of the night but this was the only downside, I'm sure it would be more quiet in a camper/caravan.

We stayed for for one night on our way north, a pleasant tiered site in rural surroundings.
A village with a general store & garage nearby, the site can only be approached one way as it`s on a small stretch of duel carriageway.
Helpful owners & a small cabin full of local information leaflets.
The Wash & Toilet facilities of a high standard.
On a down side we were unable to empty our chemical toilet due to a technical site problem (as explained by the owner).
Would return when next in their area.

A lovely site. The owners were very helpful and courteous, from the phone call to book the pitch to us leaving the site.
The site was fairly empty the weekend we were there so ample space, however even if it had of been busy I believe the pitches would still be generous.
The toilet block was fine, and the previous postings have comments on the road noise were correct although it did not bother us.
Whitworth hall Country Park 10 minutes’ drive is well worth a visit for a nice walk and G Bolam butchers outlet in Sedgefield a little further afield is a must for the BBQ.
The electric meter reading is taken when you arrive and you pay for however much you have used when you leave.
It cost us £4. 20 which the owner said was high, however we did used the heating and TV a lot this weekend. A really relaxing and enjoyable weekend.

Lovely location, loved the environmentally friendly efforts of this park planting trees and protecting local wildlife.
Exceptionally friendly welcome, very good value for money and plenty of space around the pitches.
Shower block and other facilities very clean, but once again hot water not hot enough and a very short push button for the shower, perfectly fine for a handbasin but not for a shower.
Nearby highway was not too bothersome and this will improve once the trees have grown up. We would return to this park.
