Fabulous site. Immaculately clean everywhere, friendly wardens and with excellent facilities - including barbecue, playground, shop, gas, wi-fi and electricity hook-up! Only criticism is the noise from the A1079 at the rear of the site. Very close to York, so easy to drive in to the city or use the Park&Ride at Grimston Bar (5 mins away from site). Great pub, doing good meals, within walking distance.

Just had our later than usual first outing, went back to Ashfield in Dunnington, still a great site with very friendly and helpful owners.

Site clean and very tidy, showers though dated compared to new are still very clean and functional, they have extended the play area which now caters for a wider age group a useful addition is the swings.

We set up on a lovely hot Friday, early Saturday it rained and rained Sunday, but the ground just soaked it up, our unit was still wet Sunday, so we asked if we could stay longer, this was not an issue, I then decided to stay an extra night with was also not an issue, thanks to the owners for fully understanding about not wanting to pack up a wet canvas unit.

It was our sons birthday and he wanted to bring his friend to this site which they both thoroughly enjoyed.

16 amp ehu s well lit, really nice location and well sheltered, thanks again.

Bets regards,

Tony.

What a fantastic site ! Visited with 2 children 8 and 7 also a baby. The whole site was immaculately presented, toilets and showers spotless also constantly hot and central heating on in the facilities too. Staff couldn't be more helpful and as it was Easter whilst we were there our boys were given Easter eggs. The playground area was adequate for our children and they were also able to play football. We stayed for 5 days and was great for visiting local areas and was also an easy drive to the east coast seaside. This site is a little gem ! We will definitely be back and can't recommend this site enough ! Thank you for a lovely stay.

I agree with another reviewer. Forget CC Rowntree, we stayed there last year, and never again. Anyway, , about this site, it is very clean and tidy, the site wardens are very helpful, friendly and chatty, the facilities are very good, if a bit dated, but very clean, AND warm. Nice little touches that make is a lovely site to stay are, a T. V lounge, and T. V points at the EHU, A good BBQ( for hire ), we didn't use any of them, but still a nice touch. Good basic shop that even sells alcohol, . A decent washing up room ( Indoors ). The only down thing is that when it got dark, there didn't seem to be enough lighting going to the toilet blocks / TV lounge.

Still, it is a site we will use again when visiting friends in Dunnington.

Oh and the walk to the bus stop is a bit of a trek, if you have trouble walking.

Just spent August Bank holiday at Ashfield with my daughters and their partners together with my grand daughter and her friend for my youngest daughters 30th birthday! (I know it may seem strange that we go camping for her birthday but she had to work at York Races that weekend so it was handy). A very varied age range from 17 to 60 years of age and anything in between. We all had a lovely weekend, weather was OK too!

Ashfield is a lovely, friendly site which is well maintained. The toilet facilities are great, lovely and warm and clean and plenty of hot water for showering. Showers are 20p for 5 minutes which is ample time, I put 40p in the slot when I washed my hair and that was enough too.

Plenty of water taps and electric hooks ups etc. , could possibly do with a few more or bigger waste bins at busy times of the year.

We will definitely be visiting Ashfield again.

Hi, just back from Ashfield, we were in the main area, they have an extra field with EHU. Pitches were spacious, shown the pitch by the owner.

Heavy rain for 10 hours and no flooding or boggy ground, the camping main area is well surrounded by trees, this would keep heavy winds at bay.

The toilets showers were in an older building, and are dated compared to purpose built blocks, but we're very clean and worked well. The addition of heating kept the rooms nice and warm, so you could shower at any time. The showers cost 20 p for 5 mins and were more than adequate.

Small shop that catered for the basics, the village is a mile away and has enough to keep you going for a long weekend.

The games room with tv, sofas, table tennis table was a nice and welcome touch. The park area was also well thought about and appealed to all ages. The BBQ area was also a nice touch, though we did not use this, but would on our next visit.

You can hear the traffic from the main road but it is not enough to put you off.

This is a site that got the thumbs up from all of us - a first for a local site, so we will be back.

Thanks for an enjoyable and relaxing short break.

Best regards,

Tony.

 Very private setting.

This is a small very well managed site. Plenty of water points and 16 AMP EHU.

The on site wardens couldn't be more hard working, helpful and friendly.

There is a very special built in covered BBQ which can be hired.

Flat level pitches part hard part grass. So you get the best of both.

The toilets are spotless. Showers cost 20p for 5 minutes. Plenty of hot water so no problems here.

The on site shop has plenty of goodies so if you were stuck you wont starve.

Dog walk is non existent. However, 600 yards up Haggs Lane you can walk part way around a wheat field and walk miles through Hagg Wood.

A park and ride is a short drive away for bus rides into York City.

A local Chinese restaurant delivers to site.

The Windmill pub/ hotel provides excellent meals at reasonable prices.

This is another little gemstone for my black book. Forget the CC Rowntree Park. This one ticks all the boxes.

Folding camper actually but no option for this. ;-)

Just had three nights at Ashfield and I cannot fault the site itself, just a few of the people who decided to use it!

As already stated by others, nice large flat pitches giving plenty of space. Facilities a little older than some but mostly clean and quite acceptable and paying 20p for a 5 minute shower is better than having to constantly press the button in the 'free' versions you often get.

10 minute walk to the nearest pub and some nice local walks also on the door step for dogs with owners.

Easy access to York if that is the reason for your visit.

We were unlucky that one peaceful day was spoilt by a group of around 5 caravan families who decided they would take over the place and drink and shout loudly for most of the day and let their dogs wonder around freely doing what dogs do. It still amazes me how some people can be so ignorant of others and of the simple 'keep dogs on a lead' rule. Luckily we left the next day so we only had one night of them.

I would certainly look to use this site again if I am up in the area in the future. I just hope next time the dicks do not appear.

A lovely flat site with a good feel.

We picked a week of very variable weather, it absolutely poured with rain for some of the time and the site got exceptionally waterlogged.

The facilities are quite old and dated but are kept clean - no mean feat with the weather we had as mud was absolutely everywhere! The facilities are also well maintained, a light out was replaced and a broken hairdryer mended by the next day.

Its a very friendly site and our children enjoyed it very much even though the playground doesn't have much in it.

The site is conveniently located close to Grimston Park and Ride which was £5. 40 for four of us return into York. Its also close to shopping centres with bowling alley and multiscreen cinema which we used in the bad weather.

The Windmill pub round the corner does very good food and caters for a gluten free diet.

The free wifi is a great addition (although a bit hit and miss) We would look to book here again if we decide to head back to this area.

Stayed at this site for the Easter weekend, the toilets and showers were clean with plenty of hot water, there was a charge for the showers, 20p for 5 minutes. The field itself was lovely and flat with pitches round the edge giving enough room for ball games to be played in the middle. The site was lovely and enclosed and had a nice play park for the kids, as well as a recreation room with a telly and table tennis. The site is family owned/run and sells homemade jams, chutneys and scones every day. This site is definitely one we will be going back to ( and that doesn't happen very often!). This site has a lovely feel about it, and deserves nothing but good reviews! Forget the comment put on by a previous user regarding the bird scarer, we only heard this very very faintly in the background. Not a problem at all! The village of Dunnington is only a 5-10 minute walk away with a lovely village pub and local cost cutter, which sells everything you need! The site does have a shop, which only opens for an hour in the morning and 1 hour in the evening, it doesn't really sell much apart from a few sweets for the kids. Much to my 14 year sons delight, the wi fi was excellent, and free! Without a shadow of a doubt we will return here time after time! Well worth a visit in my opinion!
