We went to this site last weekend.

The site was easy to find and was set in lovely countryside.

The owner was very friendly and told us all the information that we needed to know about the site.

All the pitches on both fields have electric which makes a refreshing change to other sites we have stayed at previously.

There is a children's play area for children to use which is situated near the toilets/showers and shop.

The toilets are clean but there are only 3 ladies toilets and showers so you have to judge the best time to go.  The block is left open all night so that you can use the facilities during the night.

The shop is well stocked and is reasonably priced and it also sells home made products i.e. Cakes, pies and preserves.  They can be ordered and delivered direct to your tent whilst still hot.  I tried a slice of coffee and walnut cake and it was delicious.

We think the site is very reasonably priced during school holidays considering some camping sites charge extortionate prices when kids are off school.

The site is not far from York so you can go shopping or to the water world swimming pool which is brilliant for kids and not just the small ones but the big kids in our families.

I know I'm waffling on but I would really recommend this site to anyone and we will definitely be going back again

 Notice from Ashfield Caravan Park
With reference to previous comment from DaveyDave (May 2007).
Unfortunately due to a problem with a thermostatic mixer on the hot water supply we could not turn the boiler to full temperature as the hot water taps could have scalded someone. The problem was caused by prolonged use of all showers on a busy weekend.
The problem has now been rectified.
We apologise for this, but in the interest of safety thought it the best option.

After a long hike from York, (we decided to walk rather than take the park and ride - I thoroughly recommend taking the bus!)  it was fantastic to collapse into a place like this. The owner was friendly, helpful and welcoming. There was a small shop on site that sold food and wine, there was also a room with sofas, a snooker table, and a table tennis table. Other facilities included toilets, showers, a washroom, a laundry room and a kind of mini kitchen as well as a small children's play park. The area for pitching was also fantastically maintained. If you don't want to cook yourself, there is also a lovely little pub called "The Windmill" just down the road. Great place to go and I will be visiting with my boyfriend again and again as he thoroughly enjoyed it too.

Lovely site,  Helpful owners and good facilities.  Only quibble is the low hum of traffic from the A1079 into Hull - but I am being very picky here!  Site is handy for York - close to Park & Ride at Grimston Bar.  You can order home made cakes, pies, etc and I can recommend them - very good!  I'd recommend you take rock pegs (is that the right term?) as well as the usual kind, as we found it difficult to get a few of ours in - the odd rocky bit under the topsoil!  This aside, I would definitely visit this site again.

Excellent site, with fantastic owners, who are very helpful.
The site it`s self is well situated, easy to find, has a nice friendly atmosphere. Hot showers, god send to warm you up this time of year when you are in a tent!
Loads to do , a short bus ride into York, magic roads over to the coast, all easy to get to from this camp site.
On the evening some good pubs , Cross Keys has good food, the cricket club is only a 5 min walk and again serve food.
Highly recommend this camp site if you wish a relaxed, take it easy flavor.

Visited this site for bank holiday weekend and found it to be very quiet and clean. The only drawback for me was the showers. When all were in use the hot water was no more than a trickle and not really acceptable when you are being charged for it.
Nice pub about a 10 minute walk away. Park and ride into York is about a 5 minute ride away.
Level pitches with soft ground for your awning pegs. Bacon butties are available in the mornings at £1.50 each and tasted great.
All in all a very nice site apart from the water pressure in the showers.
We will probably visit again.

This was our first time camping, we couldn't not have picked a better site to start, the welcome was very friendly, the facilities were excellent. The only problem was that we couldn't stay longer than 3 nights! Excellent value, clean, and did what it said on the tin and more. The local pub "The Windmill" is well worth a trip too.

What can we say about a fantastic little site that is nothing short of brilliant!
We found getting to the site as easy as you can get, the directions are top notch.
Once we had arrived I reported to the site office. I can honestly say with hand on heart that we have not come across people so friendly and so happy to help they are willing to bend over backwards to make your stay a happy one.
Again, we were impressed with the children's play area. A slide, with 'hide-out' on top, monkey bars and 2 swings, one the infants and other for the older kids. There was a small football area complete with goal. Around the same area was a BBQ to die for! Its simply stunning! (£2 for 30 mins). You could, (and it has been done!) feed over 20 on burgers, sausages and the like. The owners have even placed wooden tables and benches so you can eat, sit and chill will little effort!
The toilet and shower block was very clean and cannot be faulted. Before arriving I thought charging 20p for a 5 mins shower was a little cheeky, but after having been washed by a powerful shower in a clean cubical with very hot water, I would rather pay 20p and have a great shower like this, that then have a 'OK' shower for free!
The shop is small but all that your need.
The games room kept my 2 happy for hours. A table tennis table, football table all with soft chairs to sit in and watch telly while the kids burn off some energy.
The Maize Maze is about 4 mins up the road next to the park and ride to York. We used both and both are well worth the visit.
Dunnington is a short drive or a nice walk away. It has a Costcutter, fish and chip shop and pharmacy.
We were that taken with the running of this site, along with its locality that we stayed an extra night and booked another stay later in the year.

A PROPER GEM!

Just returned home from our 9 night AGM rally at Ashfield.  The owners Rob and Jenny and their families couldn't do enough for us.  The site is kept very clean, the shop is well stockedincluding fresh home baked cakes and quiches, the toilets, showers and pot washing facilities are very clean.  They provide very good recycling facilities.  They have recently installed communal BBQ's with a nice area to sit.  Good facilities for children include a small play area and rope swing and a room with ping pong, TV and comfortable chairs.  The site has a secure barrier.  A 15 minute walk into Dunnington village provides a shop, newsagents, fish & chip shop and several pubs.  From Dunnington you can catch a regular bus into York which runs late into the evening.

Excellent level and grassy campsite, only a couple of miles from the A64. Small and friendly, very good and clean facilities.

The owners sell home-baked cakes etc, which were very nice also!

Only a mile or so into Dunnington village, which has a couple of nice pubs and a convenience store.

This was only our second ever campsite, and we are going back later this year (hopefully the guy in the tent next to us last year won't be back again, as he snored like a foghorn!)
