Just got back after 5 days at Ashfield camp site and have thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
The site is very clean and tidy with spotless toilets and showers. The owners/wardens are very friendly and helpful with, obviously, loads of local knowledge.
Besides the usual facilities you would expect from a good campsite, there was an Australian barbecue, (never experienced one before), a microwave and a kettle ! These are situated next to the children's playground and the shower block; very handy.
The village of Dunnington is about 1 mile away and can be walked via a network of lanes and footpaths; very handy if you have a dog that needs exercising. The local pub (the Cross Keys) is dog friendly and serves excellent food at reasonable prices.
Just before you enter the village there is a large children's adventure playground which looks absolutely fantastic with swings, slides, climbing frames, and lots of other things; (I regretted being over 50!).
York city centre is about 3 or 4 miles away and can be accessed by Park and Ride at Grimley Bar, which is about 5 minutes down the road. (Parking by car in York is very expensive, we paid £10 for the day; ouch!)
York racecourse is about a five minute drive away for a memorable day out.
We had excursions to various places including: Bridlington, Filey, York, Harragate, Malton and Pocklington, all within easy reach from the site.
The one and only fault with the site, in my personal opinion, is that the main York to Hull road runs about 300 yards from the tent field and gets busy from about 7am. However, after a day or two, you hardly notice the noise.
Overall, highly recommended; especially if you have kids, or dogs, in tow!

When we arrived, on a sunny Wednesday afternoon, we were booked in by the friendly resident wardens and subsequently shown around the facilities.
I always think first impressions are a good thing, and as we were staying for four nights I was a bit more critical, nothing here that was a miss, toilets were clean and fresh, playground for the kids (although we did not have any) was more than adequate, even pay as you go barbecue stove was on offer (£2 per hour). The shop was stocked with useful items including some wines and beers.
A small walk for the bus to York, or into Dunnington were there are a couple of pubs and a couple of shops, including costcutters, but be aware they shut around 5.00PM.
I could go on and on about this site, I was VERY impressed, and if it were your business, the wardens on site would make you relaxed, in the knowledge that things were getting taken care off.
One small negative, the wifi was not working, but it was getting work done on it when we were there, so maybe next time

First time visit to Ashfield from West Midlands. Straightforward journey to site. Pitch was pre-booked in advance with small deposit paid, balance on arrival. Found staff to be friendly and helpful. Small site with main camping in second field, was basic but with some electric hook ups if required.
At the time of our visit it wasn't very busy so able to pick corner to ourselves. Grass could have done with trim but seen a lot worse. Small shop sells basics at typical site prices, small playground for younger children is separate from camping field (which I prefer).
Toilets and shower facilities are clean and tidy (20p for showers for 5 mins). The site is close to main road and road noise can be heard but this did not bother us, we would definitely use the site again.
Park and ride (Grimston Bar) is only 5 mins away by car and is good value for travelling into York (£2. 30 per adult return, children under 16 free). We visited York Railway Museum, free entry, definitely worth a visit, but restaurant bit pricey.
Whitby is about an hours drive away. Eden Camp (WWII theme museum) near Malton about 30 minutes drive away but allow 3 - 4 hours to look around.

Just spent the weekend at this site, wardens are very friendly we were shown to our pitch which was very spacious,
This is a very clean site well maintained the toilet block and showers were very clean,
There is a small park for children to play and the shop sold basics,
We went into dunnington village to cross keys pub for tea and between 5. 30-7. 00pm, its 2 meals for £12. 50 including a sweet, great value and it was really nice to,
If you want to go into york we went in the car to the park and ride at grimston bar only a couple of miles down the road, return tickets are £2. 30 each, children are free- lot cheaper than parking in york,
Overall a great weekend and we will be going there again

We spent Bank Holiday weekend on the site and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Very clean, very child friendly, very quiet at night. Nice small campsite, we were happy to let our children aged 4 and 6 wander about on site on their own. The playground is small but the children enjoyed it. There is an absolutely wonderful play area just down the road, well worth a visit.
Really liked the tent field, the tents are around the edge leaving a lovely big flat space for games.
Very easy to get to York, we went to the railway museum and also travelled about an hour to get to Fountains Abbey which was wonderful.
Would certainly recommend and will be returning with friends soon.

What a lovely family site!
The two fields are generally speaking, a caravan field and a tent field, both flat, level and well maintained.
The hosts are friendly and helpful.
The camping field had approx 6 tents at each side of a square field (~ 24 tents) with ample pitching space and a reasonably large centre section left for activities whereby during our stay there was cricket, tennis, football and many more played out as a small community with kids making friends and everyone generally enjoying themselves in a decent manner. The weather was fantastic.
The kids play area was good but maybe could be improved as could the toilet/shower block with only a coin fed (20p) shower for 5mins.
There is a nice country walk passing ducks and an exceptional play-park that led to the local village with a couple of pubs and a small grocery store for provisions.
All-in-all an exceptionally good site and would recommend it as we will be returning.

Just returned from a wonderful weekend at this site. The tent field is lovely with the hook ups on the edge leaving a large space for the kids to play in.
Lovely little playground, which another reviewer said, we were happy to let our 4 and 9 year olds wander over to. Toilets & showers cleaned daily & quite sufficient.
Under cover pot washing area (which is right next to the kids playground). Also washing facilities, microwave & kettle for use. A small recreation room with a tv, books etc.
Very clean & friendly site & would definitely visit again.

Just returned from May bank holiday weekend at this site. What a pleasure it was to be there. Facilities are first class and the welcome from the owners second to none.
The site is well run, maintained well and kept very clean. We were in the tent field which is large with good sized pitches all with electric hook up leaving plenty of room in the centre of the field for ball games etc.
It is a walk to the showers and toilets but we didn't mind that at all.
The shop sold wonderful home made cakes which we thoroughly enjoyed.
As other reviews have said there is some road noise from the A1079 but it did not bother us.
We will definitely return to this site.

I have stayed at this park for most of the summer, either by myself or with hubby or with my grandchildren and what a great park it is. The wardens are great, always on hand if you need anything and are friendly but not nosy, they keep the site really clean. The owners are really nice, they always ask how you are. The grandchildren love coming here as there is the playground, table tennis room on the park, the larger playground in the village and so much more to keep them entertained. The village is really nice and there are some lovely walks from the campsite.
I cannot wait to return in 2012.
