Great camping at craig wen, the views were amazing from our pitch in the lower field.
Plenty of good walks (specially to the George hotel 3 mile) not keen on barmouth, but the walk there was good (across the railway bridge)crossed over to fairbourne on the little ferry, didn't use the train to fairbourne its a rip off- £16 for 2 of us, anyway fairbourne is like a ghost town.
Really friendly and helpful at Craig Wen.
To sit outside by a roaring fire, taking in the amazing scenery was fantastic.
This is what camping is about, will be returning.

Just returned from a wonderful week spent at this perfectly situated site.
We were a little apprehensive about the limited facilities, only 2 showers and 2 toilets (plus an eco friendly toilet in the woods) for the whole site, but even though we were there during peak season we didn't have to queue for either!
The tree bog on the lower camping field was a real experience, not in the least unpleasant, more a novelty.
Our pitch was on the lower field but we were able to park next to our tent, the view was incredible and the walk back up the hill to the showers/toilets was a small price to pay for the massive pitch, peace and tranquillity we experienced throughout the whole stay.
The owners and all staff were very friendly and helpful. An honesty shop open 24/7 is a lovely idea and very useful for those forgotten items. Logs for camp fires can be purchased and delivered to your tent for use in the ready built campfires which are really popular.
Fresh croissants and other items are available freshly baked every morning to order.
We hired the site bikes twice while we were there. They were a real novelty and a great way to travel to either Barmouth or Dolgellau via 'The George' along the beautiful Mawddach trail.
As keen walkers we chose the area for its glorious scenery and abundance of hill walks and we were not disappointed.
All in all we would fully recommend this site, whilst we were 2 fit adults who could easily manage the hills, there is so much space for children it is an ideal site for active families.
Can't wait to return again next year for a longer stay.

We have visited this campsite on many occasions and always away from the peak season which I would recommend for anyone who wants a relaxing break and enjoy the stunning scenery it offers.
We find that it is completely different during peak times with only two showers for the site it can be a bit of a wait and also just two toilets.
I agree with other campers that its a bit steep price wise this we don't mind when its quiet but to pay that amount with limited facilities in summer
My advice to other campers is unless the site is not busy don't pay extra for the scenic view, everyone else just comes in front of your van with their chairs and mobiles so its actually of no benefit.
The owners of the site are very welcoming and its always very clean. As for the comment regarding the road noise the sound of the birds usually drowns that out. Overall this site is excellent.

The lower fields are a gem of a campsite for anyone who wants to do a bit of wild camping. We were allocated a pitch fairly close to the parking area so chose to use the wheel barrows to cart the stuff to the pitch! Once we were set up we instantly felt relaxed and that's how we felt throughout our stay. The pitches are fabulous, there is plenty of room and you feel as though they have been carefully thought out to give everyone space and privacy. We loved the ready laid out fire pits and had a fire every night, we even cooked on it one night! The only facility in the lower camp fields is The Tree Bog, but considering there is only one, I never had to wait, but did have to make an effort to go every time I went past!
We took advantage of the Mawddach Trail and walked into Barmouth, which was a really pleasant experience. The kids had plenty of room to explore and play.
All in all we loved our stay at Graig Wen and would love to visit again, shame the lower fields are only open during the summer holidays!

Really enjoyed our stay at Graig Wen!
Stayed there for a week early September wish we could of stayed longer
The campsite is well run friendly and clean
Well worth paying that little extra for the scenic pitch!
We met some great folks while staying there
Found it last year while looking for somewhere to stay on route to Abersoch
Owners went out there way to accommodate us so we decided to return for a longer stay which didn't disappoint us
What a great little find keep up the good work!
Looking forward to visiting again!

Just come back from camping on the lower fields at Graig Wen. What a shame the lower fields are only open for 28 days, it's just a superb site and a great location so peaceful and quiet.
Walked into Barmouth for breakfast after leaving the car at Arthog station.
The Tree Bog was good and clean and not smelly.
The road down is a bit of an experience with a BIG drop on the one side
Toilets nice and clean

Disappointed-we were really looking forward to visiting this site having read the reviews on here & in Cool Camping. Yes the view is wonderful but the downsides are simply not outweighed by this.
£1 for a shower is ok if you get a decent shower & not a dribble. Impossible to get pegs into the plot we were given-about 5 foot away from the toilet block!
We would have happily camped on the lower field but were not offered it & there clearly was room whilst we were staying. Noisy main road runs right next to pitches. Owners seemed much more interested in their B & B.
To be fair the toilets were kept clean during our visit but we won't be returning. Too expensive & over rated. There are much better sites in the area with good views too.

Visited Graig Wen a couple of weeks ago in early June and found it a real treat. The facilities, toilets and shower are basic though clean and the wood area is a land of discovery for children with the path down to the cycle path being a real bonus. We took a pitch in the woods and found a real sheltered area that gave us a community feel yet peace and quiet at the same time. A night time real fire is always a joy.
The cycle path to Barmouth was a nice ride for our 7 year old with the pleasure of a beach at the end of it. The following day we took the family run at Coed-y-Brenin which, whilst she complained about it, we did in two hours and was suitable again for my daughter and the two of us.
Sarah and Jonny made us feel welcome and we were able to choose where we went. Ordering fresh croissant for breakfast on Sunday morning was a real treat. We will go back, thank you.

I have to agree with another review - we too were swayed by reviews and the web-site. Reality is a bit different from the picture that is painted.
The area allocated to mobile units is very close to the busy main road, and the traffic noise quite intrusive, so much so it would prohibit us from returning.
The facilities are adequate, but the proliferation of notices and instructions a bit daunting. As noted by a previous post, the B & B seems to take precedence.
The surrounding area is a delight, (except for Barmouth, unless you like Rhyll / Prestatyne / Blackpool type resorts).
Catering outlets are not within walking distance, and the main road is not a cycle friendly one, so be prepared!
For tent camping, this is an ideal site, away from it all, and lots of space and privacy, But I would hesitate to recommend it for tourers/vans.

We (hubby, baby, me) stayed here for just one night in April. A really well run site where the owners were very helpful. The toilets were very clean and well maintained.
The view from the site is spectacular but is best seen from the panorama view pitches that you pay extra for. We would def go back to the site but we would pay for the panorama pitches.
The whole site is just lovely and the walk down to the cycle track is beautiful. The only minor niggle is that some of the pitches are close to the road and beware that you will need rock pegs as the ground is solid!
Overall, a very well run site in a beautiful part of the world.
