Very nice campsite quiet surrounding beautifully countryside the owners were very pleasant and nothing was too much trouble.
The camp site gave you plenty of room and had some secluded areas to camp if you wanted to be left alone.
Logs were delivered to you camp and if you wanted to bring your own wood you could.
Well behaved dogs were welcome as sheep roam the campsite.

We were not disappointed, returned another three times this year. The lower camping fields which are restricted to summer opening only (by the local council) are simply camping heaven. The views over the estuary and surrounding mountains are sublime, the pitches all have their own names (kind of quirky) and the sizes are the most spacious you are ever likely to come across. The icing has to be that every pitch has a fire pit which allows you to sit back and enjoy the experience late into the night, with the 'Logman' delivering bags to your pitch on a nightly basis (To be paid for of course). The site accesses the estuary pathway which takes you to Barmouth in one direction, or to Dolgellau in the other (Passing a good pub on the way) and is flat and safe for kids to cycle either direction. Walking and cycling are part of the course in this region and if you want to explore that bit further then there are some great places to experience within a short drive (30mins from Coed y Brenin). The kids may just want to explore the woods, go crabbing in the estuary or simply kick back on the odd rope swing that can be found. Just don’t expect playgrounds for them, this is old fashioned playing, the kind that has almost been forgotten, but the kind that will build memories.
It is a hike from the lower fields up to the main toilet and shower block and the facilities are basic, albeit clean when you get there, however this is not a site for commercialism. If you want scenery, location, tranquillity and great hosts then look no further.

We stayed over the bank holiday weekend and even though the weather was awful we enjoyed the break. We were on pitch 5 and had a lovely view of the estuary until a group of campers decided the view was theirs alone and erected a large windbreak and pergola between the tents, thus restricting the view to everyone else. The main road right behind the pitch can be a little noisy but not too bad. The main winge was the state of the hardstanding, boy are they hard. My solid steel screwpegs were useless and I managed to bend six of them, we ended up holding down the sides of the awning with the plentiful rocks. Dont get me wrong this a nice little site, as many campers will testify, its just us cosseted caravaners that need a bit more than just a nice view.

We camped in the touring park early in July before the lower fields were opened. Our pitch was small but we enjoyed probably the best views we've had camping. The walk down to the estuary was easily accessed down the hill, but the walk back is very steep - a bit tricky for our kids who had to push their bikes.
We enjoyed our stay at Graig Wen, but we thought the facilities are basic for the price we paid. The small toilet block was kept nicely clean but I couldn't get more than a trickle of lukewarm water. You had to walk down past the house to the shower block, which I found very basic and a bit cold. Like other reviewers, I thought it was a bit steep charging £1 for showers, with a family of four it really bumps up the price per night.

This site affords a splendid location overlooking the beautiful Mawddach Estuary - which is just a steep walk/cycle away though some woodlands & the lower camping field. The only downside in terms of location is that the upper field backs right onto a main road & can be noisy.
Only the upper field was open when we were there & the site was pretty quiet given it was midweek & just before school holidays. As it stood the site was fine for our needs - although I felt charging £1 for about 3 minutes hot water in the showers was a little tight. I'd much prefer the site charges a little extra & offers free showers. However, the facilities were clean & there was an honesty box system to buy snacks & milk, etc.
The lower field will be opened for about a month in July & August, and I'm not sure I'd want to stay there when it was busy. There are no facilities in the lower field & as mentioned it is a steep walk to the toilets & the showers. There are only 2 men's toilets & 2 showers in total.

I have been visiting this campsite for the last 17 years, and have always been impressed by the previous owner’s Tom and Emma's hospitality, especially for my disabled friend when he stayed in the disabled suite. This site has always been a campsite with minimum but adequate facilities, but always a joy to go to. However when I heard the site had been taken over recently by Sarah and John I was naturally a bit wary on my first visit, I need not have been, John have really gone all out to make this site not only more welcome to campers by providing more facilities which are Incidentally excellent, and by landscaping the site have added greatly to the beauty of the site.
The toilet block is a basically the same as it was with four toilets, with washing facilities including hot water, but has been radically refurbished with the addition of a dishwashing facility outside the toilet block. Again the shower facilities have been upgraded and a pound provides all the hot water needed for a shower. Again John and Sarah have updated the hook up situation and each site now has its own hook up.
Playing space for the children is somewhat limited however the campsite is never jammed full so there are playing areas on the site itself. Also walk down that the track way from the site down through the woods provides plenty of playing areas, and Fairborne beach is only 10 minutes away, while the other way Barmouth is only 20 minutes away, with stretches of safe beach, funfairs, another facilities for children.
Graig Wen recommended as a campsite with adequate but excellent facilities, reasonably priced and with beaches and places to visit within easy reach, also good shopping facilities in nearby Barmouth.

Stayed for Easter - and believe we saw the site at its best. The wonderful views from the the site over the Mawddach Estuary are incredible. The site is beautifully kept - owners are permanently on top of everything.
The toilet block was kept immaculate all weekend. The shower block was also kept very clean - however its rather old and a walk down to the site entrance. £1 for a 3 minute shower - they were piping hot - but it added on £2 a night for a couple to the cost of staying.
The site had a great atmosphere - everyone seems to mix in together. This was helped by the owners arranging a bonfire on the Sunday night.
Only possibly minor negative comment would be there is a lack of anywhere for younger children to play. Luckily at the weekend the grass pitches weren't taken so it became the play area - albeit somewhat hectic and a little noisy having 10-12 under 8's running around right outside the hard standings.
Miles from the nearest shops so the honesty shop was a bonus. Bread, milk, toiletries, drinks and best of all chocolate! They really do try to think of everything here.
All in all a really great site - credit to the owners Would highly recommend and will proably stay there again ourselves.

As with many of the other reviewers we normally go for campsites with more facilities and were a bit taken aback when we arrived at Graig Wen, we were soon won over by the beauty and tranquillity of the site and plan to return at the end of the summer hols.
I would like to give a little warning to nervous drivers that the track down to the lower camping fields is a bit hairy although you get used to it after a few goes, I also noticed a few people struggling to get their cars moving when the ground got wet in the lower field. Large families might also want to note that showers are a pound a go, which could significantly up the price of your trip if everyone likes to have a shower every day.
There are two showers, a small toilet block, a drinking water tap and a washing up sink (no hot water) at the top of the site and a composting toilet near the bottom field. There was also a tap in one of the lower fields but we couldn't find it! More water taps in the lower fields would be most welcome and possibly another composting toilet as the one there was heavily used during our weeks stay and did get a bit eye watering on warm afternoons.
The site is located on the Mawddach trail which is fantastic, but remember that you'll have to wheel the bikes down a steep gravel track to get to it - we found this a bit of a challenge for our kids.
The best features for us were the scenery, space and camp fires. You'll need lots of energy and strong legs to enjoy this campsite but it's definitely worth it

We've become accustomed to camping with all the mod cons (electric hook-up etc) over the years, so we were a little wary when my pal said he'd booked Graig Wen for our annual trip away as a group. 'There's only one hook-up and you haven't got it', he said.
Undaunted, we prepared ourselves for a more simple style of camping and what a reward! This site is excellent. There is simply so much space and freedom, and the opportunity to have campfires is wonderful (although it was a bit on the cold and windy side when we were there). My advice now would be to manage without the hook-up and go down on the lower levels of the site. It's much more natural.
I have to say I blanched when the owners mentioned the compost toilet but how wrong can you be? Just about the best camping lavvie any of us had ever used! Pong-free and a lovely view into the bargain! We did find having our own chemical bog an advantage, though. It is a bit of a hike to the loos, especially in the middle of the night.
The wildlife was as advertised with buzzards and woodpeckers in evidence. We will definitely be returning.

What a wonderful site.
The owners are very friendly. The bike path is brilliant. Our 7 year old son learnt to ride his bike. Simple camping experience with one of the best views from our tent ever.
