Once again, we had an absolutely lovely time at Clachtoll. We went a little later in the year in the hope we got the weather and boy did we ever, came home lovely and brown courtesy of many lovely, relaxing hours spent on the beach and the kids spent hours body boarding in the sea. For hubby, there was a pleasant afternoon spent fishing courtesy of the sea and nearby loch. Jim was once again on hand to welcome us, I nearly had time to get the handbrake on this year before he was over. We will definitely go back again over the next few years as while it's a tough drive it really is worth it, gorgeous scenery, friendly and spotlessly clean campsite, brilliant beach, plenty of fishing and nothing to do but relax and unwind, what more can you ask for.

We stayed at Clachtoll last week and it was so restful and Jim and Ishbel were so welcoming. The facilities were great, so clean just perfect. The beach is beautiful and the sunsets were amazing. We will be back later in the season for another visit. Plenty of lovely walks for us and the dogs. Made us wonder why we go anywhere other than Scotland for holidays.

One of, if not the best site I have ever stayed at. On arriving the owners Jim and Ishbel rushed over to introduce themselves and escort us to a suitable pitch.
The site is a minutes walk from the clearest blue / green sea and white beaches you will find.
The site itself is extremely well run and the facilities are immaculate at all times.
There are 12 pitches with EHU which are marked out with the rest of the area informal pitching.
The last 6 miles to the site is single track but there's plenty of passing places but if you don't enjoy the challenge of driving on narrow roads its best to bring all your provisions with you.
Cheesy as it sounds but you really do arrive as a guest and leave as a friend.
Can't wait for a return visit.

Pitches not defined, we went in school hols and had tents on all sides approx. Only 3 feet away guy ropes touching. Excellent showers and staff Beach a bit remote, long trek to the nearest shop. Ideally they need more hook ups.

The site was very quiet when we visited - outside school holidays - and has a great feeling of remoteness.
The site is very nice - all flat with trim grass. The facilities are excellent and very clean though I suppose if the site were busy then maybe two showers for the men is not enough.
The owner is a really, really nice guy who made us feel genuinely very welcome.
The only problem - the site is right on the coast and if the wind picks up then it will test the quality of your tent.

Clachtoll beach campsite is a very special place. We'll definitely be going there again, just as soon as we can. I'd (almost) unreservedly recommend it to anyone.
Pros:
* Clachtoll beach is one of the best beaches in the UK * Sutherland is a stunning county -you'll take lots of photos * The site is all grass, you can leave the rock pegs at home * The showers are as good as anywhere * Very few midges - none at all when we were there * Very friendly and helpful owners * The haggis from the butchers in Lochinver is to die for.
Cons:
* The road from Lochinver to Clachtoll is single track, very narrow, twisty and hilly. Not for the faint of heart - especially if you have a twin-axle van. * The nearest shop is in Lochinver * It can be a bit on the windy side. * The Elsan point is usually padlocked and you need to find the owner if you want to use it. This isn't really a problem - at least, not unless you discover that the loo needs emptying at 3am. * If the site is very busy, you may have to queue to use the site toilets and the showers. * It's 500 miles from home :-((

We visited in August and have to say that this is without a doubt the most relaxing and beautiful site. Jim and Ishbel were very welcoming, friendly and helpful and were lovely.
The site itself is in surroundings that can only be described as breathtaking, the sea is so clear it looks like it belongs in Spain and the beach is the same. The site amenities were spotless and the laundry room has now been built and is very reasonably priced. £3 for a load of washing and the tumble dryer is £1 per 20 minutes however as it is an industrial dryer a full load I put in took only 40 minutes.
The only downside is that it is a bit away from local amenities like shops etc so you do have to go prepared, the nearest town is Lochinver and is 6 miles away and the shop only has the basics however if you want a relaxing holiday away from disco's, pubs, TV etc this is the place to go.
The drive up to Clachtoll is hard, there is no doubt about it, it took us about 7 hours. It is a lovely drive and takes you through some lovely places of Scotland, we passed through Inverness which has the Moray Firth with seals and dolphins so it is defintely worth it and when you get into the Highlands themselves, you will get some great photo's.
The walks around the site itself are wonderful, the sea is gorgeous and we had a great time. Will definitely be back next year as you get a great campsite at Clachtoll for very reasonable prices. We had a family size tent, 2 adults, 2 dogs(free) and a 12 year old child and paid £12.50 per night. One last tip, watch out for the sheep when driving - they are mental.

Had booked having read reviews here on UKCS. Thank you everyone, for letting us into this secret! 700 miles from home, we climbed out of the van, and were immediately greeted with a warm handshake from Charlie, a customer assisting with the running of the site, who was expecting us, and proceeded to show us to our allocated pitch. As we discussed the merits of the pitch (which was a bit tight for our van), Jim (the owner) came rushing over, apologising(!) for having been otherwise engaged when we arrived all of 3 minutes ago. More handshakes, and 2 alternative pitches suggested, both completely fine, and a full site rundown to boot. The toilets & showers were modern, clean, spacious, and well equipped, at ALL times. Jim was constantly on site, stopping for a conversation, and making sure all was well in your world. Even to the extent of assisting in putting tents up, for new arrivals, something we were glad to join in with. No playgrounds, but sea, sand, dunes, rocks. We didn't see the ankle biters for 5 days! The area is remote, with little in the way of shops or the like, if, like us, you are site-bound once set up. Having said that, Proper Planning Prevents etc etc, so ensure you have your supplies on board before leaving Lochinver, and you'll have no issue. Walking is great, surfing is superb, the sunsets are sublime, and the relaxation is everywhere, and contagious. If, like us, you are then offered some 'spare' mackerel caught that day as well, you'll have cracked it! Marks out of ten? 12, bordering on 13. 15 when the sun shines. Thanks Jim, see you next year!

When Belinda Carlisle sang "Heaven is a place on earth" she must have been thinking of Clachtoll Beach campsite. Jim and Ishbel are the best site owners you could wish to meet. We arrived at 11.00 with our blind Lancashire Heeler "Meg" and Jim showed us to a pitch and helped put the tent up. The site is 2 minutes walk from the beach in a spectacular location. The toilets were kept spotless and there was plenty hot water available for washing up and showering. There's a payphone on site for those of us that can't get a mobile phone signal and also a washing machine and a dryer if you need them. Jim and Ishbel regularly checked with everyone that they were happy with the site and were always willing to lend a hand or give advice on places to visit and things to do. The site is 6 miles from Lochinver so if you need a wee dram in the evening best take a bottle with you as it is too far to walk to the pub. This is the best site we have ever stayed on and will definitely return again as soon as we are able.

Wow. Wow. Wow! What more can I say. This site is wonderful, the owners are lovely people and so welcoming. The toilet and shower block is immaculate as is the laundry. There are only 2 showers but I only once had to wait for 10 mins. Not bad at all considering the site was busy. The site would benefit from a little shop of some kind as the nearest one is some distance away. The wildlife and the beauty is just awesome at this location. We saw Minke Whale, Otter, Badger etc. Jim and Ishbel are so welcoming and they are always on hand to help. The only downside was that tents and caravans share the same area, this meant that sometimes it was a little noisy first thing in the morning. Screaming children! Agghrr! I would love to go back and visit this area and meet the owners again. Superb. Fantastic. Brilliant!
