Great campsites! I can only agree with everyone who has remarked on the helpful owner, Jim, the great facilities, the fantastic beach and the lovely walks. I can imagine that it gets very busy in the middle of school hols but it was lovely and peaceful in September.
It's a shame that the site closes so early in the season, but the owners deserve the well earned rest. We will certainly be back.

Following the breathtaking drive along the single-track road to Clachtoll, we were warmly welcomed by Jim and given a tour of the site and facilities.
The location is amazing, next to a beautiful stretch of coastline with white sand and blue sea, even when the sun wasn't shining! The area is great for walking, although it was difficult to drag the kids and dog away from the stunning beach.
The site was full and felt a tiny bit cramped in some places, although the toilets and showers were adequate with the occasional queue, however they were always spotlessly clean. Everyone seemed good-natured and the vibe on site was chilled out and friendly, probably due to the relaxed, helpful attitude of all the staff.
There was a tardis-like shop nearby that seemed to sell everything you could need which was good as the nearest shops were a few miles drive along the single track roads.
The beach makes this site, I wish it was closer as it is a real gem.

We arrived at about 4 o'clock in the afternoon and was promptly met at the gate by the owner Jim who introduced himself and shook hands. It's about a 5 mile drive down a single track road that has got regular passing places. We were towing a twin axle caravan, you just need to be extra cautious and take your time. I wasn't too worried about meeting anybody towing coming towards me because you have to leave on day of departure from the site by 1100.
We were escorted to our pitch which was level and plenty big enough for our caravan, awning and car. The site is about 150 yards from the beach which is beautiful. We had a lovely view of the sea and surrounding rocks. There are regular sightings of whales and dolphins out in the bay.
The toilet and shower facilities on site were always kept spotlessly clean with plenty of hot water for the showers, sometimes people were waiting to use the facilities, but I'm sure the site was full so extra facilities whould be a bonus for guests.
Lochinver is 6 miles away with a couple of small grocery stores. If you can better to take everything you need to last for your stay. There a small shop just outside the site that sells a few essentials so that's handy.
The surrounding area is very scenic and unspoilt so if you want to unwind or feel energetic it's ideal for walking, biking, sailing, fishing, etc. The site is a real gem and a credit to those who run it.
I wish it was nearer but it's an 1100 mile round trip for us however I'm hoping to return in the near future. Well done Clachtoll we loved it.

Just returned from what for me was a little bit of heaven on earth in the wild remote and majestic county of Sutherland on Scotland's north west coast.
On arrival I was greeted by a firm handshake and a warm welcome from the owners assistant and shown personally to my pitch for the week. As high winds and driving rain was forecast for later in the day I was shown to a flat level pitch protected by a small knoll of land and advised to park the car in front of the tent for added protection which seemed sensible to me and which ultimately proved fitting given the gusts of between 40-50mph I experienced
Once pitched I wandered the site to get my bearings found the gents toilet contained two wc's two showers and a urinal contained in a spotlessly clean heated unit with covered washing up facilities just outside adjacent to the reception area.
Beach (approx. 150 yds away) was accessed by a public road leading to a public car park with well maintained boardwalks leading to a horseshoe shaped beach with white sands and turquoise water which despite the high winds and rolling breakers was being used by a number of folk riding the waves on bodyboards etc and though busy did not seem crowded with plenty of space for more.
My week consisted of a bit of trout fishing in the 300 lochs available in the area(Permits readily available from a number of outlets) Fishing from the rocks either side of the beach and days out to numerous beaches and places of interest around the site
Site was accessed by a 7 mile drive along a single track road with passing places from the village of Lochinver which had a Spar and a newsagents. A small shop at the gates of the site sold basics like milk eggs etc. And there is a small general store 6 mles beyond the site in the hamlet of Dumbeg so sufficient supplies for the bulk of your stay should be purchased before hand topping up as and when you need from these stores.
For anyone who likes the great outdoors and the many pastimes associated with that I would say Clachtoll is ideally suited to pursue them or as a good base for touring around the area.
Jim(the owner) and his assistant made me more than welcome and offered assistance to me in so many ways. Nothing was indeed too much trouble and I for one look forward to returning to this site and exploring more of this part of Scotland as soon as I can.

Beautiful location right by the beach. Really warm welcome from the owner, who walked us to the camping area and suggested where would be good for our tent. The owners were on hand all the time should there ever be a problem and were great at giving some local advice about where we could see some more seals (saw some off the Stoer lighthouse and further round the coast) - much to the delight of our two boys!
The only problem we had was the icy-cold north wind - it was so cold! The plus side was that there were absolutely no midges (a real bug-bear of mine and a worry camping on the west coast of Scotland).
Facilities are small - two showers for men and the same in the ladies - but the water is hot and they are kept very clean. Never a problem getting a shower at any time.
Nearby shop mentioned by others and the shop in Lochinver is okay too.
We would definitely come back here and hopefully get some warmer weather, which would make it a really fantastic place!

Really friendly welcome from Jim. He showed us all the facilities and took us to our pitch. Facilities although small were beautifully clean. Ample showers and loos. There are 2 dish washing stations and a handy hot drinks machine if you don't fancy brewing up yourself. There was a fresh fish van on site when we arrived but we didn't take advantage of it. A small, well stocked shop is just to the side of the site, but it doesn't open till 11am. Good level, firm pitches. Loads to do round and about. Beautiful beaches and lots of nice walks. Kids spent lots of time scrambling over the many rocks at the shoreline. Can't wait to go back.

Super super welcoming and helpful couple who run this site, they are always about and always willing to help with anything.
All the facilities were spotless and cleaned/checked regularly by the owners. The wifi was free and faster than we get at home.
The position right next to the beach is lovely.
Well done to the owners, we will be back.

Just returned from Clachtoll, and wow what a stunning place. Lovely place right next to the beach, with white sands and blue waters. This was our first time visiting this high in Scotland and couldn't believe how lovely the views are. The owners are very friendly and give some good advise on where to visit. They came and greeted us when we arrived and came to see us the next day to see if we were okay and set up okay, which is a nice touch they are always approachable. The site is sandy and stoney in places but used thicker longer pegs in the ground. We had no problems driving the pegs in the ground. We used electric hook up and the points have taps next to them saved us carrying water across the site. Toilets were always clean they are closed 11. 30-12. 30 every day for cleaning showers are operated by a push button which keeps stopping and so you have to keep pressing it but we didn't mind that. I suppose it makes you shower quicker, but they lovely and hot. There is only two showers but we never had a problem waiting for them. There is dishwashing facilities with lovely hot water. A drinks machine which serves hot drinks for 50p. Washing machine and dryer room. A little shop just outside the campsite to the left of it which sells hot drinks, toasties cake, fresh bread and rolls, milk, eggs and other small provisions. It is known as the smallest shop and its certainly is, but handy when you need milk cause the local spar shop is a good 6-7 miles back up the road, in Lochinver. Just needed to be a bit move prepared for the winds and rain but it won't put me off I shall be going again. Beautiful, beautiful, place. The owners are doing a good job.

We headed for the west coast on impulse, and selected the site purely by location - right beside the beach! Tried to book, but were told it was very quiet, so just turn up. Extra brownie points for not only having an email address for booking, but responding very promptly.
The site was well signposted from several miles away, so no trouble at all finding it (unlike some sites in the area). The owner (or manager) appeared almost before we'd stopped moving, took us across to the reception (a portacabin), booked us in and explained everything in great detail. The site was so quiet we were able to take our pick of several beachview pitches. The site is sand-dune based, so not totally level. We found a flat spot, but others used levellers.
The site is set 100 yards or so from the actual beach, and there's a public car park there which can get quite busy during the day. There's a stile and footpath to access the beach from the site. The beach is lovely, with rocks, grassy headlands and highland cattle with cute baby (which we kept well away from, just in case mum got protective).
The site toilets and showers (also in the portacabin) seemed quite small for the size of the site, but spotlessly clean and in full working order. There was free wifi throughout the site - even more extra brownie points for that! It was fast and stable, and not the horrible type where you have to login again every time. Wonderful. There was a chemical toilet disposal and a drive-over motorhome grey waste disposal, and every pitch has access to a fresh-water tap. Otherwise few facilities, but the spectacular view made up for it.
A great base for exploring the west coast, or just for a peaceful get-away-from-it-all rest. An excellent site.

We enjoyed a six night stay at Clachtoll beach in early August and would go back there at the drop of a hat if it wasn't for the fact it is 700 miles away from home.
To begin with we were shown to our pitch by the owner and later on in the day the owner made a point of coming around to introduce himself. It was a nice touch as some sites of a similar size show a casual disinterest in their guests once they have your money.
The facilities are a little sparse and perhaps not sufficient for a site of this size. However this not a problem because the owner runs a tight ship and several times I saw him mopping out the showers after 10PM. If the site was run by someone without his work ethic then, it might be a problem but, I'm pleased to say it is not. I even saw the owner helping other campers pitch their rent.
The site is in a beautiful setting with a short walk to the beach. When the weather is playing ball, there is no finer place to camp.
You are a little remote here, if you need supplies it's a 20 minute drive to Lochinver. I didn't try out the shop that has been set up just outside the site, I only realised it was there after half the week had gone. A stay in this area should include a visit to the Lochinver Larder for the finest pies in the country.
In conclusion, a fantastic place to stay run by one of the best proprietors in the tourism industry, a big thanks goes to the owner from the Upfold family.
